Wood paneling, gnomes, classic rock, old industrial Escondido and a vibe that harkens back to late 90's microbreweries. I felt like I walked through a wormhole into the golden days of local brews. This place feels like if Bates Nut Farm had a brewery, in the best way. It's not flashy but doesn't need to be. The decor perfectly matches the neighborhood it's in; this is a place my dad would've stopped in for a beer after he worked a double shift. There's a timelessness to it. To boot: good beer. The Bill's Big Belgian is great. Boozy and kind of funky, sort of reminds me of a Flander's Red but just more brown. Good stuff. The Dragon Fire spicy fruit ale is no joke either. We stopped in for the Groupon flight for 2. Beer was ok. The Reaper and the Bills are the two best a beers there. If you like a little spice in your beer this one truly has that. A very small space that seems like it's meant as a gathering space for home brewers. We went to a comedy night there that advertised food trucks and NONE were present. The pretzels they sell pair well with the beer but I wish there was at least one other option. Beer is a very limited, heavy IPA selection that really didn't have any other beers that wowed me. The beers were ok, some tasted like they had been on tap for a while. So I stuck with the darker stronger beers. The big Belgian beer was pretty good, as well as their stout. The place is also a homebrew shop which is a huge plus if you're looking for ingredients to brew your own. The bar area is in the front, with a nice bar to sit at. The homebrew shop is in the back. You don't get to scoop your own here, but if you give them your recipe they will do the work for you. Service at the bar was friendly. With the big downturn in home brewing and breweries in general I hope they can stay around. It is nice to have a local homebrew shop! read more

Very chill vibe here, everytime we come in it's pretty quiet with very few customers. The beers are decent, they have a spicy beer on tap, J's Carolina, that has a nice heat to it, my husband likes their dark beers a lot. They also have seltzers that I haven't tried yet, but will next time I stop by. It's located in an industrial part of Escondido, they have a small parking lot and there is plenty of street parking. read more

Traveling thru Escondido and wanted to check this place out. Industrial/business park location. Not a typical trendy brewery but delivered where it counts: the beer. Big Bill's Belgian is the shit. And the hazy was tasty without being overly ibu'd. Had a great time talking with Bill the owner and a regular at the bar. Thought this place would be cool to check out since I'm a truck driver and parked 10 mins from there. NOPE. Beer was flat , smelled like cat piss walking in , gnats flying everywhere sitting at the bar , music was not the vibe , maybe for a person that just wants to get drunk and forget anything ever existed and have no taste in beer, bathroom had spiders, don't think they hire a person to come and spray for insects, not a lot of people come here which I can see why from experience, no food ( was not presented a food menu) if you're looking for a crap bar, not good music , flat beer ($8.50 A PINT) and a hint of cat smell , this is the place for you. Otherwise , would not recommend, you're better off at the hooters down the street. read more

Location is in an industrial area but they have plenty of signs to guide the way. We came on a Friday and there wasn't many people but they are new so guessing the word hasn't gotten out about them yet. Beers: small selection but they have a different kinds to choose from. I tried their stout and it was pretty good. Check out their website for the diff kinds that are available. Ambience: outside is unassuming but inside is bigger than I expected with 2 diff areas. Stopped her this afternoon with a group of work friends while waiting for my truck at ORW. I'd never been here before, but looked it up after seeing a sign reading "Brewery" with an arrow. They've got a lot of options of beers and the woman serving beers at the bar was very nice when serving and answering out questions. Best part about the brewery is the little greeter that greets everyone who walks in. Definitely look forward to stopping by here again! read more

"More Fun Blonde" is a great tasting beer. It's got just the right kind of richness that I like. Not hoppy, but it's got a great taste and mouthfeel (if that's a word). Not sure how they do that. read more

Backyard Brewery is a great addition to the local craft beer scene here in Escondido. To be honest, the beers were a solid 3.5 to 4 for me....but they are just getting a stride in their brewing in this building and I am already hearing of some great additions to the tap list, so we will have to check the new brews out soon. I will say the English IPA was a stand out for me, a great twist that isnt as common as you would hope. But...that 4th or so star was pulled in by the bartender. Each time the bartender has done a great job of balancing the crowd and made sure I am never left thirsty. So cheers to that! read more

Located in an industrial/commercial area but many great breweries are! Went at night and parking area was well lit and the signs made it clear we were in the right place. Cozy atmosphere but plenty of seats in the back plus a handful of seats at the bar. Brought our own food and tried a beer flight of IPA's and J's Carolina spicy beer. All were great! A West Coast IPA is hard to make stand out but they make a delicious, unique one. Nice smoky, earthy touch and took one to-go. Friendly service from the owner and you can tell he enjoys the craft. My boyfriend and I just moved up the street from here. It's our favorite go to brewery. We love picking out a board game and grabbing a hazy. On Friday's they have trivia night and a food truck. The service is impeccable, the owner is always there and super friendly. LaDonna is also a favorite of ours. Def try this place out and try the hazy! read more

Amazing beer! I started with Bill's Big Belgian...it was smooth and rich! Went to the American IPA which they called the "Hopenstein" it definitely had bite!
