Nice, classy and relaxed spot in Shelburne, Vt. Great cocktails and delicious entrees.read more

Upon arriving, the host told us he couldn't find our reservation and went to get his manager. She came over and said "yep, I see it right here, but we don't have a table available for another 45 minutes." They offered us a table in the bar area and we decided to take it, but it was very lounge like with two big wingback chairs and a teeny tiny cocktail table. The waitress we had was lovely and understanding but it was really cramped and disappointing. The bar area was loud and not the special birthday vibe we'd imagined. We started off with the pickled pear and burrata salad and it was the best thing we had all night. The steak tartare was a funky color and had a gamey flavor. About two minutes after getting our steak tartare delivered, a waiter came over with our entrees. There wasn't room for all of the food at the table and he asked if we were done with the tartare. We explained we'd just gotten it about 2 minutes ago and I asked if there were any tables larger available by that point but unfortunately he walked away as I was talking which felt really embarrassing. I saw him take our food away into what I'm assuming was the kitchen, and they brought it out 15-20 minutes later after we'd finished our apps. It was pretty obvious they'd just put it under a warmer as some parts of our meal were lukewarm, some hot, and some cold. The portions were large but odd- giant heaps of cabbage and sautéed spinach but maybe a few tablespoons of mashed potatoes. My pork chop was inedible. It was dry to the point I could hardly cut through it and pick it up with my fork. My boyfriend enjoyed the short rib. We ordered dessert to go but was told a large party had just come in so the kitchen was backordered and it took a considerable amount of time to get 2 desserts to go. All in all, the gift card covered most of this meal so we made the most of it, but I never would've paid out of pocket for the meal and service we experienced last night. As someone who dines out frequently and has a job in food journalism, it's been a long time since I've experienced something quite this poor.

But it's more than just a restaurant, it's a relaxed bar that's both modern and rustic. My wife and I visited for the first time tonight for dinner. We arrived to find a meticulously-clean establishment finished in a very comfortable wood theme, like a cabin. We were greeted by the owner and took a table rather than sitting at the bar. The bar was quite crowded and there were a couple other tables occupied, but the noise level wasn't bad. There are TVs visible from almost any angle for sports fans. Bucky's has a full bar and and a solid beer selection that's sure to please anyone. I was impressed that there are some very high-quality selections available at the bar, including Maker's Mark. Your average small town bar often doesn't have that. The menu is surprisingly extensive and offers a wide variety of items. You'll find everything from basic pub fare to exotic chimichangas. Yes, there is such thing as a steak and cheese chimi! I can't wait to try that next time. There's a good amount of appetizers as well. The potato skins with bacon were among the best I've had-- go just for those if you aren't too hungry! For dinner we had a blue cheese burger and fish & chips. The burger was charbroiled greatness topped with unusually good blue cheese. Fries are typical shoestring type and are good but nothing special. The fried fish was a good portion and made just right. It didn't seem frozen or old and was perfectly flaky and tasty. The dessert menu looked great but we were stuffed by then. I remember an Italian lemon cake type offering, which I can't wait to try next time. The owners and waitstaff were very attentive to our needs and stopped by a couple times. The chef came out and spoke as well. There's a very familiar feeling and friendly vibe happening. Bucky's rocks, you need to go there, that's all I can say!
