I would give 10 stars if I could!! The owner and his associate were so nice, and they have an amazing assortment of bikes. My husband is very tall and has extremely long legs for his height. I called other bike shops and explained this and they said they had bikes they thought would accommodate him. Nope! Not even close. This bike shop had multiple bikes for him to choose from, they were so reasonable, and the bikes also had baskets and water bottle holders. I've never had both with a rental. This bike shop is worth going out of your way, however be prepared that they only accept cash and checks. We will be back! read more

We visited the Backyard Bike shop on our recent trip. It was awesome! The staff was great. Very accommodating and patient while we picked just the right bikes. We rented for 2 hours. They told us a safe route for a family ride. The bikes were fun and great quality. They gave us baskets and bike locks in case we stopped. They had a great selection of bikes for everyone. I loved the tricycle! It was so much fun and super easy to rent. It made our vacation even more fun! read more

Don't use them. They are rude and don't care at all about customer service. No paperwork is given once you pay for the bikes. My mistake I thought the bikes were due back in a certain day but was two days late. Charged me for the late days which I understand but were beyond rude when I asked why paperwork isn't given. His response was "well now you know to ask for it next time". And then proceeded to say that they never call for reminders or to say that you are late. Their bikes are also in terrible shape. Take your business elsewhere. They are in it for the money. My 7 year old also said "wow, that man was rude" as we were walking away. read more

While owners Charlie and Lisa were polite, our experience overall was not good. We rented bikes for our week vacation. They require children to get sized for bikes, totally fine. The bike my daughter chose was too small (our fault) and while she technically fit on it, it was not feasible for her to ride any distance. Called and Lisa said she couldn't deliver new but we could pick up. Took time away from.beCh to go after closing at 2p and same size bike was out. Grabbed it and called it a day so we had a bike only to find later that the training wheels were not on properly/tight and she fell off and could have gotten really hurt. We used the bikes one time and my daughter was uncomfortable the whole ride. They refunded us one child's bike but basically blamed us for everything. Very disappointing as we look forward to our bike rides each year. read more

My wife and I rented bikes at a bike shop in Siesta and it appeared my shoes fit the rented bike. When we got to Longboat Key and started to ride the shoes wouldn't click in. We road a mile to Backyard Bikes and the owner, Charley, tried adjusting the pedals. When that didn't work he swapped the pedals for pedals that fit better. Charley wouldn't take any money and just asked that I get his pedals back. This is a great bike shop owned by someone that really Cares about cycling and not only his customers, but other bike shops customers. read more

Do not go there! Went for a ride with family. Wanted to get a bell. The guy there was unhelpful and only complained about how busy he was... Pretty surprising bc there was only 1-2 people there. Started riding after buying a bike bell. Noticed a wobbly wheel... went back and while the family got ice cream went there to see if he could true the wheel... he only complained again and said the owner would be back the next week and he was so busy he didn't want to mess with trying to fix the wheel. DO NOT GO HERE. If you need anything would recommend VILLAGE BICYCLES... Brought my wheel there, they fixed it within 1/2 hr.. we also bought my daughter a new helmet and biking clothes. Me and my beautiful wife were out for a bike ride on a sunny Saturday morning. We left from the north end of Anna Maria Island and figured we would head 10 miles south and turn around. We were 8 miles into our ride and my wife's bike got a flat. We checked if there were any local bike shops close to where we were, and there was! We were not even a quarter mile from this bike shop, so we walk over there hoping they have Saturday hours. It's 15 minutes past noon when we walk up and the store hours say they are open until 4pm. Score! As we open the door to walk into the store a guy from about 3 stores down who is outside talking with 2 other shop owners, yells down to us, can I help you? I have the door open looking into a completely empty store, and he's walking toward us. My wife says, yes I just got a flat and we are 8 miles from home, can you put a new tube in for me? He says no, I'm the only person working today, so it can't be fixed until Monday! I asked if he could please help us, we will have to walk 8 miles home if we can't get it fixed, he said there's nothing I can do until Monday??? By the way my wife's bike has a quick release wheel, and even I could change a inner tube out in less than 10 minutes. We walked away mystified. We went to Harry's convenience store next door to get some water, it's 85° out, and checked our phones to see if there was another bike shop around. He walks back down to the other shop owners and continues to talk with them for the 40 minutes we spent next door at Harry's trying to find another bike shop (there was none). So it was more important for him to talk with other people, not even his customers, not help someone out in need, and turn down a customer. During that 40 minutes not a single person came into that parking lot to his business or any of the other nearby businesses. This place is horrible, I can't even comprehend turning someone away in our situation. Please find anywhere else to go but here. read more

Snow Bird escaping the winter of '18 to Anna Maria Island. I searched for a bike comparable to my trek and a bike rack to rent. I am 6'4 so I needed to be sure to get a good fit. BBS had a hybrid bike with an easy to use car rack that worked great. I did a thorough check of the area and they had what I needed at a reasonable cost. I went here after reading the great reviews especially how they took the care to make sure you had a good bike fit. My experience was nothing like I read. The manager showed no interest in showing me bikes and actually gave me a bike with the chain off (I put it back on so I could ride it)and no gears worked. When I finally found a bike I asked if he would move the seat back a bit for a more comfortable ride. He said he didn't want to do it because he was the only one working. There were no other customers there...... The customer service I read about was non existent. I will give a shout out to Siesta Key Bike and Kayak Rentals. They were efficient, friendly, and adjusted the bike for a better ride. So thank you Backyard Bikes for helping me find a great bike rental shop:) read more

I was on LBK for a lengthy ride of a few hours and spring a flat about 2 miles past this shop. With a little pump I was able to get the tire inflated enough to backtrack and ask for their help. Charlie couldn't have been more helpful. He had a long line of bikes to work on that day but stopped what he was doing to quickly put a (much better quality) new tube on my bike, so could get going. He was gracious, reassuring, fun and fair in his price. In fact I had only a limited amount of cash with me and he let me pay less than he usually reasonably charges (though I vow to return with the difference and his tip)! This place was a lifesaver and his accommodating a new passer through like me has made me a loyal customer for tune-ups, equipment and next bike purchase. Thank you Charlie! Fast service repairing my bike tires and great compliance with safety requirements during Covid time.

Rented 7 gear & 3 gear bikes, both 15/day. 7 speed was new and great to ride; 3 speed was an old clunker with rusty chain, difficult to shift and hard to ride with rusty handlebar that had been disguised with black spray paint. This bike was way past its useable life as a rental. We kept switching bikes so one of us would not be stuck riding clunker all day. Make sure you rent a newer bike, beware of the 3 speed bikes (ck to see if handlebar has been spray painted). read more

Stopped in this bike shop with a flat tube on bike. Asked if I could buy a tube and change it. I was told we couldn't use his tools because of insurance reasons and that it would take over a day to fix. My bike is quick release and it just would have taken 5 mins ( not one sole was in this shop) save your time and drive 2 mins down to ACE Hardware they fixed it in 10 mins and was nice about it. No way, they are rude, and the bikes are in bad shape. Tried to rent us older bikes, not what we were promised. There were some problems with the gears where an accident happened, not too bad, but caused by the gears jamming. They didn't care.
