The staff is friendly and helpful guiding you through your options to sit in house and drink from a mug or in a to-go cup. There are seats around the perimeter of the shop as well as at the coffee bar. There are also a couple booths towards the back. I ordered the West Main burrito with turkey sausage. It's a smallish coffee shop in the middle of Ambler with lots of goodies. The medium roast coffee is always good. I always peek at the pastries to see if there's a Kouign Amman, then contemplate whether I'm deserving. As a huge SEC fan, my go-to sandwich is the R5. They use the best ingredients - lightly toasted potato roll, slightly salty pork sausage, freshly fried egg and American cheese - a symphony for the morning soul. Amazing breakfast sandwiches with great coffee, yes please! First food item I tried here was a pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwich. They load up the pork roll with at least two slabs of it and hot dam you can really cherish the sodium packed delicioso breakfast meat in this option. Later in the week I tried their Chicken salad in a Croissant, which came with fresh apples, nuts, and cranberries. This sandwich tasted magnificently light and yet filled you up with the nutrition packed yummy proteins spread inside the Croissant. Lastly, the dark roast coffee, this has a sweet biting taste to it, not overly dark. I splurged yesterday, and also tried the cappuccino, I am always hesitant to try cappuccino out as I have very high expectations. Luckily, the cappuccino was outstanding here. A little more pricey than the drip coffee but it doesn't let you down when you feel like mixing up your daily caffeine routine. I do not see any competition for my coffee business monies to be spent anywhere else in the borough of Ambler. Such a great place. Small menu but everything is fresh and delicious. I got the R5 with pesto mayo and turkey sausage. My son got the chicken salad which had too many nuts for him. My in laws loved their egg, cheese and bacon. They said the roll was so fresh. My husband had the burrito. The best part was the cold brew dark roast. I had two of them (discount for bringing my own cup) and purchased the cans to go since I am staying in a hotel. Guaranteed yummy coffee for the rest of the trip. Score! read more

Love this adorable local coffee shop! I am doing a show at a theater a few blocks away and this has become a go-to for me and my cast. The service is always fast, there are a good amount of seating options, and everything I tried is delish! It is a great spot to grab a coffee, bring your laptop, and get some work done. I've been wanting to try backyard beans for awhile after buying their bagged coffee and seeing them at the lansdale farmers market. I finally got the chance to visit and I was very impressed with my coffee ! I got the pumpkin cold brew and was just expecting flavored cold brew but it was so much better ! It was pumpkin flavored, with a cream foam on top and caramel ! Honestly so heavenly. I wish there was a little less Ice or a bigger drink because I just wanted more ! Their menu is pretty minimal and they do have food offerings as well which I'll have to try next time! The cafe is very minimalistic and they do have a to go fridge and some merch for sale as well! The coffee is great (cortado especially excellent) but they may as well just officially close for anything except take out orders after 3 pm given how much the staff clearly wants you to leave. I know they close at 4 and am always out beforehand, but don't appreciate the "nudges" like no longer serving drinks in real cups after 2 pm, aggressive floor sweeping at 3 pm, and then coming up to every patron after 3:30 to let the know the shop is "closing in 20 minutes." Every day, every time, even if I've been here 3 days in a row (and obviously left before 4). Last time I meant to get an iced coffee to go and leave at 3:45ish, but this kind of thing makes me feel so unwelcome (and my business unwanted) that I just packed up and left. read more

The person behind the counter was very short with me and then talked about me to her coworker right in front of me. It was very rude and uncalled for as I was very kind in speaking to them. Then we ordered our food to EAT IN and the food counter person called a name and put a bag out. I didn't hear the name. After 15 minutes of waiting I went up and said "is this for (our name)" and she said yes and walked away. They could have called it again. And we didn't order it to go. I used to own a cafe and was very successful. I would never let my employees treat customers like that. It's funny how fast you can lose a customer and spread bad word about a business. Our first roastery trip of the new year and backyard beans was a good choice. We ordered a mocha latte and a regular latte, both with oat milk. Both were creamy and the mocha wasn't too sweet, which is the usual deterrent from ordering a mocha. The salmon avocado toast was very reasonably priced at $8, but it tasted a tad fishy. I have been to Backyard many times and never get tired of visiting this place. As others have said, it is definitely a millennial/bougie place but you cannot beat their coffee. I love that this place exists right on Butler. Their sandwiches (breakfast and lunch) are all great and well thought out - more than just your standard B.E.C. We only stopped in for coffee and tea today but the couple after us got two cappuccino "for here" that were both finished really nicely. They have an awesome plant wall that has over a hundred living plants on the wall. They also have awesome decor inside. PRO TIP: Grab a bag of their beans while you are in the shop. They typically have a bigger selection that what you can find in Whole Foods. If you are in the area and looking for a quick bite from a local spot, this is your place. They make all of their food to order but always have some great baked goodies on the counter. If you can deal with "millennial" vibes of this place, definitely check it out! read more

The workers were super friendly! My London fog was tasty. They didn't add any sugar to it so I added my own, but I actually appreciate that because it's not fun when it's overly sweet. The sticky bun I had was heavenly. Someone put their heart and soul into making that thing. So sweet and buttery and flavorful. Atmosphere was also cute. Not overly busy, good for working. My husband works nearby and frequents this coffee shop often. He brought me here after a work holiday event as he highly recommends it. My cousins also recommend buying their cold brew. We got the gingerbread latte because tis the season! There is a decent amount of seating, mostly bar area with a couple of booths. I checked in on the app as a first time customer and was happy to see a 10% offer however the cashier/barista did not accept it. She said she isn't aware of any deals. I am so disappointed to feel the need to post a negative review for backyard beans because I have been eating the same west main burrito here every week. This morning I attempted to place an order online and the system was not allowing the order to go through. When I called to explain there was a problem and could I order over the phone, the gentleman said "no, we only take orders online". "Ok, so then you'd rather not have my business?" "No. We only take orders on the website". It saddens me that we've come to a time where many restaurants (not just this one), would rather turn away your business than make a slight accommodation even when the error could easily be on their end. Many people cannot take a second to see what makes sense in a certain situation and basic customer service is out the window. Sad to say, you lost a loyal customer. read more

Ambler has been in the market for a really good coffee shop and Backyard Beans snapped up a cozy spot. Situated on Butler, the cafe has a lot of natural light flowing through the space. There are two separate bar areas with socially distanced seating. They offer unique seasonal flavors (spicy cardamom, anyone?) as well as nitrogen infused cold brew (my go-to with lavender syrup). They offer food, too but I haven't tried anything at this time. Their staff was friendly and helpful. And while I'm not sure if this was intentional, there's a totally Instagramable wall of plants along the left wall that I've not quite had the courage to snap a selfie in front of. Yay to another coffee shop in Ambler! It's nice that they allow you to order in advance online for pick up. I've only tried their vanilla latte and it is smooth and delish. They have a variety of coffees and teas to try. The stocking stuffer sized coffee is so cute and perfect for a small gift. The inside of the cafe is so clean simple and spacious.
