The interior is a remodeled old home and dining areas are sectioned off in separate rooms of the house, giving the place, a comfy, relaxed, dining atmosphere. Large windows illuminated the room where we ate. Despite the wet weather, the light filled the dining area. The wintered hydrangeas just outside, added charm to my view. The perfect spot for morning tea. Our service was friendly. The staff was attentive, and our experience a pleasant one. We will definitely be back to sample more on the menu and highly recommend you check it out.

I happen to have the same name as somebody else there with different spellings. If they're not consistent on writing the name on the drink, then it is super easy to end up taking somebody else's. They also do not write what kind of drink it is so God forbid two people have the same exact name and a similar drink, you'll never know who's who's which can cause an issue with allergies. If they were consistent on braiding up names, and the order I probably would have bumped this to five star

I didn't catch that the pot pie was actually a hand-pie (kind of like an empanada) but it is listed on the menu. Both the croissant and hand-pie crusts were excellent. Buttery and flaky. My chicken pot pie did not have much chicken, but did have flavor. There were nice spices like thyme in there. Definitely you can taste the homemade in there. My salad had micrograms and very fresh grape tomatoes and cucumbers. The side fruit was fresh and crunchy in small pieces. The place seats a couple of dozen people and had quite comfortable cloth seats. We decided to get a whole pie to go home with us and chose the key lime. Wow. Tangy and tart with the sweet graham cracker crust and whip cream. Loved it. The pie was just under $40 and the food about the same. I don't remember specifically this time. Pie and Plate Cafe is a winner with homemade scratch made food and nice coffees. The pies were excellent.

They only had two specials - usually I love to see a seasonal menu with a few more options, but seeing as this place is pretty small they may not want to overextend. They do have a lot of flavor options so I ordered a latte with maple. There's a few tables in front of the counter the rest are actually in dovetail - you can definitely hang out a bit or shop. It's very unassuming this location but there were a lot of people stopping in - I think most were going to the studio which might be upstairs ? All in all - nice spot- love the nod to Poe!

The service was attentive BUT the reason this place gets 5 stars is because of the community. There was an older gentleman with a hearing aid and grandfatherly manner that approached our table for polite conversation. In between bites of raisin French toast and a corned beef omelette, we engaged and introduced him to our 4 month old family member. He couldn't have been nicer, or so we thought. After a few minutes of pleasantries, we wish each other well and I asked for the check. It turns out this man paid for our meal. I literally jumped up and tried to find him outdoors but just like that, he was gone. I just want to say thank you to the gentleman and waitstaff. Walking into the alley where The Lore Cafe was situated was like walking into an old picture book--the alley was dappled in sunlight, with people quietly sitting in the front and birds flitting among the tables. It was Mother's Day, and there was a small basket with free bouquets to choose from, how cute! I'm generally an up-and-go kind of person, but the cafe made me want to sit and people watch for a couple of hours if I could. Matcha latte with oatmilk: nutty, creamy, a little grainy but in a way that created a pleasant mouthfeel. Almond croissant: I saw someone come in and get a giant box of pastries to go, so it must be pretty good right? There was nothing to fault on the croissant, for a coffee shop I'd say it's quite solid. If I lived near Jenkintown this would be the place I invite people to meet at on the weekend, or simply where I go to bring a book and people watch as I have coffee and pastries.
