Tonya checked me in and was very kind. I had a king bed and the room was set up the way I like it. The bathroom was nice, and the overall layout worked well. I requested a refrigerator and microwave, and they brought them up without any problem. Juma came up and installed everything, which I appreciated. One good tip is the parking. The hotel has parking, but there is also parking across the street for a fraction of the cost. It was about ten dollars for twelve hours or twenty dollars for twenty four hours, so that is worth knowing if you are trying to save a little money. The location is another major plus. It is very central and walkable. I used Yelp to find several restaurants nearby and was able to walk downtown to different spots without any problem. That convenience really adds value to the stay. I even stopped by the bar and they were kind enough to give me ice and help me out there too. Honestly, the staff here are so nice that it really pushes the experience up for me. In my head this is about four and a half stars, and on Yelp I am happy to round that up to 5 stars.

I would rate this Hilton property 0 stars if we could. We are loyal Hilton Diamond members and have stayed at multiple Hilton properties around the world. This was one of the worst properties we have ever stayed at. We stayed here in February and from the time we attempted to check in, it was disappointing. We were upgraded due to our Diamond status and upon checking into our room it was absolutely disgusting. The bedsheets appeared dingy and the bathroom was gross. There was hair on the ground and a vomit stain on the tile. So vile! We called downstairs right away and were moved to another room that was not much better. However, we were there for a family function and has other guests arriving that we has suggested the hotel to. We did notify the manager on duty and he told us he would escalate our concerns. The next day, the hotel manager, Tonya was on sight and sat down and spoke to us regarding the issues. She agreed that our experience was 100% unacceptable and promised to compensate our Hilton Honors points for our entire stay. She assured us that she would make this happen. Also, despite our complaints and meeting with her, our room was never even serviced by house keeping our entire stay. Now over 1 month later after no follow-up call or email, we contacted her and at first she acted as if she has no idea what we were talking about. Then she stated she escalated the issue to corporate but was unauthorized to issue more than 20,000 points, which covers absolutely nothing. And stated there was not really anything for her to do! She totally and outright lied to us, after she had assured us in person and in an email that our entire points would be compensated. She even had the audacity to even yell at us on the phone. This is not the type of experience I expect as a loyal Hilton Diamond Member. In conclusion avoid this disgusting and poor quality Hilton property at all costs.

You take the elevator up to the third floor where the restaurant is located. The decor is exceptional the art work is so different and whimsical it makes me think of Alice and Wonderland. You're able to see the cooking school when walking to the dining area something I think I will look into for the future. The host was great and he was very attentive even after we had been seated for a while he came back to add lights to our table since we were seated outside and the sun had gone down, something I greatly appreciated because we were struggling to read the menus in the dark. Our server KeeKee (might be misspelled) was very nice she did seem a bit overwhelmed as she mentioned she had a VERY large party that didn't seem mindful that she might have other tables. With that being taken into account she still did a good job overall and was very personable. What we ordered: Drinks Classic Old Fashioned ($20): not overly alcohol forward and had a good overall flavor profile. 8.5/10 I had a diet coke, somewhat flat but it could have just been my taste buds that night. Starters Yeast Rolls ($10): There was a little bit of a wait on them, but the hostess explained that at the time of ordering they were currently out. We didn't mind because the bread was so fresh and melted the whipped can syrup butter so easily. The bread nearly melted in your mouth as well and getting it so fresh was truly a treat. 10/10 Little Gem ($16): The salad was good I had eaten most of it before I noticed the conecuh bacon, my favorite part of it had to be the fresh fried onions that topped it. It was a good salad but nothing about it stood out more than any other salad but it was still very good and large enough to share 8/10 Chicken Fried Bacon ($12): We weren't exactly sure what to expect when ordering, but what we received was bacon that was literally deep fried in batter like chicken would be. We were definitely shocked! It was served with Wickles pickles, hot honey and pimento cheese. I enjoyed it most with the hot honey drizzled on top it really set the flavors off. 9/10 Entrees Blackend Grouper ($42): The grouper had great flavor I would have loved to have more of the grits to go with it. The size of the grouper was perfect and it was blackend perfectly with just the right amount of kick. 8/10 Ribeye ($48): Well seasoned and tender, the broccolini paired so well and the Pumpkin see gremolata just set it over the top. Everything wen together to make it arguably one of the best steaks we've had in Birmingham. So tender you barely even needed a knife to cut. 9/10 I would recommend this restaurant if you are wanting to go somewhere with a nice view away from the city that also has good food. The outside area is perfect for drinks anytime of day, with fire pits helping as the sun goes down to offer warmth. The price is comparable to that of most nicer restaurants so it was not a shocker it was on par.

They required reservations so they should have done a better job of planning. One thing that bothered me is that our reservation was at 5 and online it states happy hour is 4 to 6. When we were seated we were not provided a happy hour menu and the waitress didn't even know about it until we told her it was listed online. Drinks were more than double on the regular menu. I will say their house wine, Kessler is good especially for $7 a glass. Spritzers are great! Brussel sprouts, rolls and yellow beets were great apps. I was disappointed in my Low Country Boil especially for $33. The shrimp had heads on and the Conecuh Sausage was only at the bottom so at first I thought it was missing. The only thing great about it was the seasoning on the corn. My friends said the trout was good as well as the banana pudding. The rooftop is amazing so I will say you must be paying for atmosphere. A nice touch to keep in mind is the fire pit that is available all year round.

Not a bad stay at all…read more It's an old bank and still has some of the old stuff incorporated into the design. It's a cool building on the outside too. Nice remodel into a hotel and very creative as well. I peaked into the rooms being serviced while I was leaving and none looked the same as mine in the inside. My room had a cool mail chute built into the wall. There is also the old directory in the lobby that listed the branch managers and workers that were on each floor. The inside interior design is very well done. The lobby area is so pretty. I love the graduating wall paint. Incredibly cool. My room had some strange nooks and crannies in it that really made it even cooler. There were windows tucked into tiny corners. Tons of uniqueness. The room was clean, well stocked, coffee maker worked, hot waster came fast, and the bed was super comfy. So much in fact, I thought I was home when I woke up to use the restroom in the night. My only gripe is the it's a bit rough around it. Not much you can do about that. The homeless people that are around are sad to see, and there were quite a few. I wish more could be done to help them. It's tough to sleep in a $250/night room and know people are asleep on the ground outside. Not shaming these fine folks, but it is what it is. I'd return. For sure. '26 - 50

I usually order in for breakfast and the food comes quickly and as ordered. The fitness room is the biggest problem for me. It is small. Even if it had the same equipment in a bigger space, that would be an upgrade. Although, more equipment would be ideal. The elevators are the other issue. They are very slow. Though, I appreciate the vintage touch. I am an elite member and was told that my late checkout could be at noon... a regular customer would be able to stay that late. On a Wednesday in Bham? I found it to be a little bit disingenuous. Other than that, I will be back.

Great choice. I also got a side salad with the chipotle ranch dressing and that was very good too. Picture below. For dessert, I was planning on getting the key lime pie, because that is usually my move, but Hayden my server talked me into trying the blueberry cobbler cheesecake instead. I am glad he did. It was very good. Picture below. Between the crowded room, the good service, and the food, this was a very strong experience all the way around. I am giving The Southern Kitchen & Bar 5 stars.

It's tied to a hotel, which actually adds to the polished feel. The space isn't huge, but that makes it feel intentional and thoughtfully designed. The menu is small, but very detail-attentive -- you can tell care went into it. Appetizers: * The fritters were a standout -- flavorful and a great way to start the meal. * The fried oysters were another excellent choice -- crispy and well done. * The crab dip wasn't bad... it just didn't stand out. It was fine, just kind of "whatever" compared to the other appetizers. Main Courses: * Steak frites - AMAZING. Easily the star of the table. * Short rib pasta - Good flavor, but it felt a little heavy despite not being overly saucy. * Salmon over orzo - Cooked to perfection. Flaky, tender, and really well executed. Drinks & Dessert: * The Old Fashioned was smooth and balanced. * The Bloom cocktail was refreshing and enjoyable. * Finished with apple pie and Biscoff cheesecake -- both solid sweet endings to the night. Service was friendly and welcoming, which made the family dinner even more memorable. Portions were generous enough to leave you satisfied but not overwhelmed -- a nice balance. Overall, it's a great spot for meetups, date nights, or even just chilling at the bar solo. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

The service was excellent our waitress was very attentive, kept our drinks refilled, and made sure we had everything we needed. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. My partner and I both ordered the prime rib, and based on the description, we were expecting something much better. The meat had very little flavor and was poorly cooked. The mashed potatoes were nothing special, and the green beans were overly salty and lacked flavor. I understand it was Christmas Day, but that doesn't justify serving food that is poorly prepared especially for such an expensive meal. Great service, but the food did not meet expectations.

It might have been the slowest dinner I ever had in my life. I had a 7:00 PM reservation and I arrived early and sat down at 6:50. After being greeted and ordering wine I placed an order of the pork belly appetizer at 7:05. The pork belly appetizer came out at 8:00, 55 minutes after ordering. I placed the entree order at 7:30 and it came out at 8:30. There were only 3 other tables in the restaurant. Two three tops and a two top so not even large tables. Why on earth is it taking an hour to get out an order. I have my credit card at 8:50 and got it back at 9:15. 25 minutes to charge a card? I mean I guess you can get busy but the 4 tables here had 3 people helping with them. At no point when the server came by my table did I ever say I needed another minute. So, a 2.5+ hour dinner as a single diner was ridiculous, especially considering they were not busy. The food here was truly incredible, some of the best I've had anywhere I've traveled. I absolutely loved it. You can tell they source fresh, local ingredients daily, and that commitment clearly shines through in the quality of every dish. I started with the pork belly appetizer, which was outstanding. The cut had the perfect balance of meat and fat, expertly cooked with the fat beautifully rendered. The flavors were exceptional as well, finished with a maple glaze and paired with a sweet potato cornbread that was completely unique and memorable. For my main course, I ordered the smoked ribeye, and it was flawless. The quality was top-tier, with gorgeous marbling that truly reflected a prime cut. The smoke flavor was perfectly balanced--present but never overpowering. It had a beautiful crust, was expertly seasoned, and cooked to an ideal temperature. It honestly could not have been better. They also offered a few amuse-bouches that were equally impressive. A single bite of cherry tomato with lamb bacon was one of the best bites I've ever had. To finish, I was served a watermelon and muscadine sorbet with a St-Germain finish, an incredibly thoughtful and skillful dessert. There is an immense amount of talent in this kitchen. You will never be disappointed by the food here. My experience seemed to be overshadowed by the slow service and near the end I was so ready to just leave. However I might consider returning just for the food.
