Valet are impeccable out front. Super kind an accommodating. Look for the signs on the elevators for Moonshine. Not all the elevators have access to the rooftop where Moonshine is. All the food was really good! We had the Spicy Moon Pizza, Braised Ribs, and wings! All my friends had drinks that they said were 10/10 as well! It's a wait to be seated unless you are going to the bar. The views are so amazing as well! Especially at night. The bathroom was well taken care of well! Super clean! I recommend coming on a weeknight. When it's quieter! For what we were here for, it made the night better. Great views and that's about all I can say about this place. Convenient since it was in the hotel. Great views from the rooftop restaurant. Bar was out of most liquors and I listened to the bartender explain time and time again why he couldn't make drinks because they didn't have the basic ingredients. This along with overpriced drinks and mediocre pizza was a big disappointment. Two stars for the views and that is being generous. Bear with me here. I've been here twice . No food or drinks on either visit. First visit was weeks after they initially opened, so you know how that can be. It was extremely hot and crowded and jammed packed with the Bham political scene. Miserable......so we left!! My 2nd time was much better. My friends and I decided to come here on a Friday night for dessert after having a nice dinner at a nearby restaurant . We were at least able to checkout and really take in the roof top views. A view of bham that was beyond astonishing!! Since none of my friends had ever been here before , I was happy they had a better first visit vs. what I experienced. There was a pleasantly , nice breeze paired with calm vibe. Unfortunately there was nowhere for us to sit so we ended up leaving a little prematurely than we wanted to. Definitely three star worthy for the beautiful views alone! No disputing that. The one and only staff member to talk with us was on her second day working here. Since first coming here over a year ago, it continues to be a top favorite for roof top bars in downtown birmingham. They currently have a limited capacity due to COVID guidelines, but it does not usually get busy (with a line) until late in the night (after 8pm). Additionally, it may be a safer choice to come and enjoy the drinks, food, and view when it is not crowded (near empty) in the early afternoon during happy hour anyways. The food is pretty good, and the cocktails are great. All for a fair price. Service is good as well. I've never had any concerns or complaints after coming here. Love the view over the town. Not very happy tonight! They closed at 12 and we walked in at 10:30 and they were out to everything to make a simple drink. Then we finally decided on a regular margarita and it was awful. The Ambience is beautiful, and the valet staff were amazing, but one of the elevators was out of order that takes You to the rooftop, so you had to wait longer and get off on the 16th floor to change elevatos. They were completely out of everything on the wine list, and the alcohol selection is very small. No waitresses were on staff on a Saturday evening , and we called for maintenance to light the fire pits, which they never came.They didn't have any change for cash paying customers. read more

We have had this place on our list of places to try and hate that we waited so long!! We went for cocktails and a small bite on Valentine's night. Although it's a bar, it feels more like a "cocktail lounge". Located on the 16th or 17th floor of the beautiful Elyton Hotel, it's such a hidden gem. It's a great place to socialize and catch up with friends. Although we didn't opt to sit outside since it was a cold night, the outside seating area was open and heated. Carla, the manager, who was AMAZING, offers blankets to be used for outdoor seating!! We started with lemon drop martinis which were amazing! My husband said that it was the best he has ever had. It was obviously fresh and made with the perfect amount vodka. I don't recall the name of my other cocktails but they were all unique, made with fresh ingredients and were delicious! The "Heaviest Corner Pie" was what we ordered to eat. It did not disappoint either. It was cooked in their hearth oven and topped with salami, meatballs,mozzarella and their homemade marinara. Everything about it was wonderful and was plenty for two people. We had such a great time and enjoyed everything about our experience. We are looking forward to going back very soon! read more

Moon Shine bar opened on Friday, July 21, 2017, so this weekend was its debut. I came here with my friends on Saturday night and it was packed. There were a few large parties there and the interior and outdoor patio was very busy. I liked the feel of the place but I'd wait to come back on an off day or when there's less people. The rooftop area was smaller than I expected; with only one side of the patio actually having an overlook over the city. The Elyton hotel has 16 floors and the rooftop is the 17th. The elevators are a little slow but the little ticker showing the floors are cute. The interior also has very limited seating. I didn't get a chance to try the food items on the menu but my friends got beer and one of the signature moonshine cocktails. I ordered a glass of Lafage Miraflors Rosé, since they were out of the underwood Rosé. It was good, but as to be expected, (over)pricey. Overall, Moon Shine is a cute bar, but considering the limited rooftop views, I wouldn't really consider it a rooftop bar. I was expecting a little more open views/overlook of the city, but if you're looking to try something new, come to Moon Shine. read more

A nice swanky and trendy bar with with great views of Birmingham. Moonshine offers a limited cocktail selection but the concoctions pack a powerful punch. They have small bar bites with a pizza oven pushing out fresh tasty pies. It has two different balconies offering multiples views of Bham. The staff is professional and the bar always has some interesting people due to it being in a hotel. The bar is upscale and the prices reflect such. The first encounter I was not pleased with the service. The waitress that was assigned to my area never came to my table or even looked in my direction. I went to the bar and spoke with a very charming lady that made sure my needs were met. If it had not been for her I would have scored this place lower based on my first experience. This is definitely a nice place to have a late evening drink with a stunning view. On one of the nights there was a DJ playing 70s music, the waitress said that they play different genres and decades on certain nights. Unfortunately, I don't know the schedule. This is my second time at the Moon Shine. The first time was in the summer and the view of down town Birmingham was spectacular. The last time I went was a few days ago. It was cold and all my wife and I wanted was a nice place for a 4:00 PM adult beverage. We just signed the papers for our new home and wanted to celebrate. This roof top bar has so much potential. However is simply misses the mark on so many different levels. Furnishings: When I go to a nice bar, I am looking for comfortable seating. The couches are like outdoor furnishings bought at a discount shop. The tables have no real space to even hold a drink with it weird design. I was so uncomfortable sitting I wanted to cancel my drink and go home. Drinks: They were ok. Limited availability of brands I like but don't let that effect your judgment. Hard to screw up a glass of wine and a vodka on the rock. Service: Nice server who did every thing a server should do. Food: In the summer we had some food here. Really average to bad so this visit no food was ordered. Conclusion: One drink and out. We initially tried to go to the Yard which is the bar on the bottom floor but it was closed at 4:00 PM. At least the furnishing there are comfortable. If you want a view in the summer time of downtown Birmingham, come here. If you want a nice bar to meet and have a quiet adult beverage. We came here on a friday night and had a few drinks with friends. The views are great, with different areas and views on each side of the building. The pizza looked good, but we didn't eat any. This place is so weird, but it makes total sense given the Elyton suffers from the safe challenges. The architect and designer of this space gets 5 stars. It's just the service and the way they do it, that's so strange. This is an incredible view and it's not super cheap, but the bartenders aren't very skilled and the way the service to the table is handled (using a number on a metal stand) just seems jarring. The cook took my drink order last time and, besides not wearing a mask, he didn't seem like he really understood the drinks menu. So it's fine. But it could be a really nice cocktail bar, and it's just a missed opportunity. If they put the staff from the Collins up here, they would crush it. read more

The Moon Shine is located on the roof of the Elyton Hotel. Once u get there, you are greeted by a doorman. Only the third elevator takes u to level R, the Moon Shine, and you have to wait a good bit for the elevator I waited a good 5 minutes for the right one. Once you get in the elevator, look up. Do it. You see the skyline the whole ride up. The bar sees not only people staying at the hotel but what it looks to be a lot of people just getting off work. The rooftop is just such a nice and relaxing place to go to. As for drinks, I ordered a Peach Bellini. It was a bit strong for me (nut not for others I'm sure), but something I could probably order again. I will be back! read more

I was pretty disappointed when I visited Moon Shine. I was looking forward to a beautiful view of Birmingham but that was not what I got. Maybe its because when I think of nice views, I think of the Redmont Hotel, Roots and Revelry, Vulcan Park and especially The Club. Unfortunately, their view did not come close to any of these. There is a wall around two of the three sides that restricts any view. There is a place where you can see out, but it is always crowded with people and most of the people stay for long periods of time. With that said, the building where Moon Shine is located, the former Empire building, is beautiful. And when lit up at night, it is absolutely stunning. Regarding the cocktails, they were good but expensive and I can definitely find something similar for cheaper. read more

COVID breeding ground! No steps of precaution being implemented here other than requiring masks on staff and on customers until they sit at a table. But in reality, people are standing up and don't have their masks on because they are drinking. Very little social distancing, nothing being cleaned, dirty dishes and cups and silverware everywhere. Drinks were weak and watered down, yet expensive. You could only see the views from either end of the bar, but not from the back wall. This might be our favorite rooftop in the city. Walking into the Elyton Hotel transports you back in time. Take notice of the elevators and the floor dials above. Only one elevator will take you to the roof, so be sure to wait for the right one, as it is not obvious on a cursory glance. There is a Moon Shine menu next to the correct elevator. There is a 6 person limit on the elevator, as well. Look up on your ride up and down and check out the open ceiling of the original elevator shaft! Our favorite patio is to the left after you have entered the bar and is kind of hidden. It's smaller but offers a better view. When we went this weekend, it was closed off for renovation. Our waitress told us that the main patio and interior will be undergoing renovation soon, as well, and she was very excited for the completion, and now we are too! It was a very cold night and we were told there was no propane in the heaters, however, the waitress brought us all very warm Sherpa blankets. She told us after renovation, the owner wants to offer fur coats for all patrons on cold nights in lieu of the blankets. My husband and I both ordered the Apple Cider which tasted like a Red Hot Candy. Not my fave, but if you like red hots, definitely order this. Every other drink I have ordered here is amazing. We didn't order food, but there is a food menu available. Our waitresses were great and so nice. It was very crowded around 10pm-11pm while we were there, by there was a wedding party that came in and vastly contributed to the crowd. This bar is all hype. when going with family and friends late one Saturday night I was excited that I was going to see something great. On arrival It looked ok, somewhat dark and dingy which I thought was part of the atmosphere. On walking out to the roof patio I was dissapointed as all I saw was a wall around two of the three sides that restricted any view of the city unless you climbed up onto what could only be described as a ledge. The third side faced southwest so you only saw the west sideof the city. The other 2 views were southeast and northeast and were pretty much blocked by the adjacent buildings. OK that was the atmosphere you feel like your in a wooden crate. Now on to the bar. Their liquor selection was minimal about 8 to 10 types. They appeared to rely heavily on their signature drinks made from "moonshine". I don't know if it was figuratively speaking or if they actually used real moonsine in their drinks. However after 3 of their signature drinks I realized they were speaking figuratively. There was no moonshine in them definitely not like the stuff I had in the hills of Tennessee or North Carolina. 3 drinks of those would have left you giddy. All I got from these 3 were a nauseous feeling of having drunk overly sweet fruit juice. What made it so bad was the signature drinks were $12.00 a pop or the equivalent of a quart of moonshine. If you have to go here because your spouse, family, or friends want to bring a flask so you can liven up those drinks. read more

An incredible addition to Bham. It is, indeed, a fantastic spot for cocktails and drinks with gorgeous views of the city. Part of the allure is entering the lobby of the chic Elyton Hotel and taking the elevator to the top. Word of advice, if elevators aren't your thing, don't look up, but, if you appreciate mechanical engineering, enjoy the ride. They did a marvelous job creating a relaxing and inviting atmosphere and the down to Earth staff foster a great vibe. Shout out to Brooke. While there is a bar as well as some seating inside, this place is all about the roof top and, since they have table service, outside is the place to be. Although both sides are inviting, the views on the right are definitely better, but there are comfortable seating options on both sides. I was a little surprised the craft cocktail list is rather limited, but you can always order off menu. The Manhattan and Old Fashioned were delicious on a fall evening. Nice selection of beer and wine, too. Regarding bites, this is where I think there is room for growth. They have a great wood oven and a nice selection of pies, but I thought the pizza was a bit overcooked and, as a result, too dry. It also could have been improved with a tad more sauce and cheese. That said, despite the needed tweaks to the pizzas, the views, drinks, and service make for a fine night out. read more

We convinced the friendly staff to take us up on a slow Sunday afternoon (after brunch at The Yard) for a peek. Although we didn't get to try a stone fired pizza or enjoy an adult beverage, I know it's got to be a great spot at night! The view is definitely 5 stars! The wine selection is not bad but the food is pretty bad. As nearly every yelp photo of Moon Shine's food is of the pizza, I should've taken the hint, but instead, foolishly got the ahi tuna salad that was the definition of meh - sad, soggy lettuce, overly pickled onions, garnishes that made no sense with the tuna, and four little slices of ahi tuna. My man got the tacos and the pork was so dry, it was hard not to laugh. I tried their main cocktail, pink something or other, and found it to be overly sweet. My main complaint of the cocktail is that many were ordered by other guests and each martini glass had a different amount of liquid in it. I used to bartend, and consistency in your pours is key! I will be back to try the pizza and stick to wine or beer and will probably have a divine time! read more

For a rooftop bar, the layout really defeated the purpose of the concept. You don't really get a good view compared to other rooftop bars in the city due to the architecture. Drinks are slightly pricier than other places due to it being an upscale hotel. There's plenty of seating outside on the balcony, but do note that it can get really crowded. Service is okay and the food is pretty standard, nothing outstanding. It's a nice place to chill, but if you're coming with the intention of getting a nice view of the city, Moonshine leaves much to be desired. read more
