Backroads is currently my favorite local restaurant. The burgers are great, the fries are crisp, and I loved every song that came on. Our waitress tonight was Brittany and she made our experience 10 times better. She talked to us with a genuine means to get to know us. She was very accommodating and gave me great drink recommendations. As an indecisive person, I had her surprise me with whatever drink she picked and it was fantastic. I really appreciated the time she spent with us. She is so sweet. We will definitely be coming back soon for the great food and service. Thanks Brittany! (: read more

out favorite place to go for burgers. the food is yummy, staff is friendly, and the service is quick.

Finally the right place took over the restaurant space where Katie O'Connors was. Welcome to Plainfield, Backroads. We have been to Backroads twice now and had fantastic experiences both time. Our first visit was a beautiful Friday evening. We ate outside where the patio is nice, clean, full of patrons, and very enjoyable. The server was efficient, knowledgeable and attentive. The food came out quickly and was made exactly as we had ordered it. Our second visit was yesterday (Saturday) lunch. We sat inside this time and again, were treated with a warm welcome from the host and every other employee we encountered. We were a table of 5, and each one of us was satisified with our food and the quality of service. Our server made suggestions about the menu, and she was right on the money. Welcome to Plainfield, Backroads. We'll be in to see you again soon. read more

We ate here for first time last week on a Sunday afternoon . We chose to eat on the patio. Place is nice; clean. There was a mix of customers from couples to families to small groups. Food was good & served in a timely manner. Kind of in an out-of-the -way place, but worth checking out. read more

Place has some amazing food!!! Get the huge pretzel! It comes with 3 sauces and the buffalo sauce and the cheese sauce was good!!! I got the waffle burger special of the month and it was so delicious! One son got the chicken fingers and liked them and my other son got a bacon cheeseburger and liked that also! Definitely recommend this place read more

Food delicious and service excellent. The ambiance was great. We will be back and we highly recommend this place.

Very good food and excellent service. The brisket is excellent as well as the burgers. We will be back!

Great place to enjoy good food and lots of daily entertainment. Wish they would open in Naperville!!

Best food & service i've had in YEARS at a restaurant. We had the reuben rolls as an app, and they were delish and so fresh! My boyfriend got the burger of the month (the big daddy) WOW it was tasty and a lot of food and meat! I got the Decision is Yours burger and it was heavenly! Our server Skylar was amazing. So kind, friendly, and attentive! Our first time at Backroads, but certainly not our last! read more

See all

I'm really on the fence with this place. The one major fumble during my visit was getting the nachos and the chips were stale. The staff was accommodating and took it off the check after we sent it back after a chip or two. Everything else we had was good... ...just felt like it couldn't push beyond average. There's always a BUT to each good thing. Most of what you'll find on the menu consists of nice ingredients, but none of it really seems to showcase a reason to go out to eat. Any of the "house made" elements are limited to sauces. The beer selection is nice, however pretty limited to what you'd find in the beer isle at the grocery. The cocktails we ordered were decent, but sweet and light on the booze. The silverware and plates got the job done and looked good, but plastic plates and aluminum forks made everything feel like I was eating in a nicer cafeteria. My GF's burger looked pretty good, but it was coated in a sticky sweet sauce. The meat was nice, but not a great cook on it. My Philly sandwich was pretty good, but there was a lot of butter on the sandwich (a classic restaurant cheat). Two drinks and one entree (with a sent back app) came to about $50 including tip. I can tell some attention went into this place with its ingredient choices. A night out is not just buying off the top rack at a higher end grocery store, its about putting something on the table that I can't at home. I drove 25 minutes one way to come and try you guys out. Between me and you is several restaurants of the same nature that do this better and a high end grocery store that offers the same stuff out of the butcher/baker/frozen section for a better price with a little more effort. I can't justify coming back. read more

i went to back roads and had an amazing experience Janae was our server and she was amazing treated us very well ask for her next time you come in! very nice and positive read more

Good food and excellent service this place has all of that. The cheese curds to the nachos the appetizers are all very good. The burgers are top notch and the drinks are priced right. We had a large group and Gianna did a outstanding job making sure our drinks and belly's were full. read more

Very disappointed. Came in 4 times and had a great time each time. 1st time I spent about 200$, second time about 75$, 3rd time about 150$, and 4th time about 200$. After 4th visit, I was closing my tab and owner approached me and told me I needed to leave because I was being too loud. I asked the owner if I could stay if I lower my voice (I was watching the bulls game) and he responded no I needed to leave immediately. This is as I have my final drink still in front of me. My food came and I finished my drink and walked to the front. I asked to speak to the owner so I could find out what happened. I was not hostile I was not mad I just wanted an explanation. The owner proceeded to tell me "I don't have time to go back and fourth with you, you need to leave and I don't care if you ever come back" never in my life has someone ever told me something like that. I am an avid bar enthusiast and I love trying new places and if I like a place I usually become a regular. I've even worked in a few bars so I understand when someone needs to leave they need to leave. After this last visit I will surely never come back and I will tell this story often so people know they need to make sure to keep their voice low in this bar. (Never heard of a bar not giving a warning or have a limit on noise) food is good, but there are many other establishments who will surely take my money and treat someone with respect unlike the owner Dave. read more

Best burgers I ever had I will go every day for dinner if I could afford it I love this place friendly environment and great service.

Went with a pretty decent size group. Server was ok not the quickest. Burger was very good as well as the fries. Only complaint was seems to be a local bar some customers were rude (Whistling...cat calling at the females in the group) and staff did not curtail it... read more

Amazing burgers! So glad we tried this place and now it is a family favorite. Their burgers are so good. They have a nice char grilled flavor and you can taste it even with tons of different toppings. The menu has a nice variety of items if burgers aren't you're thing. It's a great place to go with family. Our kids love the Mac and cheese as well. There is also an extensive beer menu and variety of adult drinks. read more

My boyfriend and I were out looking for garage sales when we had decided we were hungry. We drove by this strip mall and saw Tortilla Flatz and Backroads. We decided to check Yelp and decided on Backroads over Tortilla Flatz. We walked in and it appeared pretty dead. There was no sign saying whether or not to wait to be seated or seat ourselves. So we waited for a bit to see if someone would notice us. A waitress eventually saw us and asked what kind of table we wanted, we told her a regular table and she sat us down and said our server would be with us shortly. The waitress then came back and said she'd be the one serving us. We ordered waters and my boyfriend got a Diet Coke. We looked over the menu and decided on an appetizer. When the waitress came back (sorry I don't remember her name) I asked how the sweet tea was, she told me they didn't have sweet tea, that they only have unsweetened iced tea and then we can add sweetener to it. I changed my mind and asked for a root beer. I was extremely confused because under beverages on the menu it says "Unsweetened Iced Tea, Sweet and Blueberry" -- why have something on the menu it you don't actually serve it?? We ended up ordering the Reuben Rolls which were delicious!! However, when she brought them we were never offered plates and the rolls were hot and greasy, so we ended up eating over our one napkin each as our server never returned to check on us, so we weren't able to ask for plates. We did end up finishing the rolls and even had to flip a coins for the last one haha!! It was when she delivered our appetizer that she took our order. My boyfriend ordered the Tango Whiskey FoxTrot Burger with a side of Fuji fried apples, steamed broccoli and a cup of Chicken and Creamed Wild Rice Soup. I ordered the fish and chips with a side of Mac and cheese instead of the coleslaw it came with and a cup of the same soup. We didn't see our server again until she brought our food out. Now I must say, the food was good. The soup was phenomenal, as my boyfriend put it and I agree!! My boyfriend loved his burrito/burger but was only able to eat half and had to take half home. He loved the fried apples but said the steamed broccoli was "eh". The fish was good, nothing amazing but it was tasty. The fries were good, lacked some flavor but was overall pretty good. The Mac and cheese was way too cheesy and heavy so I only picked at it. We were too full for desert so we can't speak to that. Our waitress refilled my boyfriend's Diet Coke when she brought the food and then when she brought our prickly pear margarita, which was straight liquor, she asked if we needed anything. I'd forgotten to ask for extra napkins but we never saw her again to ask for them so we had to do without. She also never offered to refill my root beer nor did I have a chance to ask. When were done, we weren't sure how long we'd be waiting for the check, luckily our server came fairly quickly and we asked for the check and some boxes. When I received the check I reviewed it and had a concern: my fish and chips were charged as $14 instead of the menu price of $13. I wasn't gonna say anything over a dollar but I was confused. I also noticed the text "Backroads" to 36000 to join the text club at the top of the receipt so I did and I received a 15% off coupon that said it was good for TODAY ONLY. So when the waitress came back I mentioned the coupon and asked about the price of my meal. She said I was charged a dollar more because I'd gotten a premium side instead of the coleslaw, which is fine except I was also charged $3 for a side of Mac and cheese. She said she did that because otherwise I'd have gotten a much smaller side of Mac and cheese, which I would've been fine with. She ended up taking off the extra side of Mac and cheese which was generous and also the proper response since I didn't ask for an extra side, I replaced the coleslaw. Then while we were waiting she came back and asked if my coupon was from today -- huh?? I said yes and showed her my phone and said that I texted the number after seeing it on the receipt. I just was baffled at the question, as it could've been easily answered had she looked at my phone the first time I showed her the coupon. Overall, the food is quite good, but the service leaves something to be desired. I also at one point felt like we were sitting in a sorority house, not a restaurant as the waitresses were sitting at a table in the middle of the restaurant and were chatting and laughing as girls do, but in the middle of a restaurant didn't seem appropriate. It appeared to be prior to a small meeting, but they sat there for quite awhile before the manager/owner (not sure) came and talked with them for no more than 5 minutes. Moral of the review: food is good, would definitely come back for that, but the service needs quite a bit of work. I'll give them another try, but I'm definitely hesitant and won't hurry back. read more

GREAT burger. I was able to build my own. Pickled jalapeño , grilled onion, pickles, applewood bacon, BBQ sauce & chipotle ranch on a toasted brioche bun. Ordered my fries crispy. They were cooked to perfection. Hubby ordered the Cheesehead with some bacon. Great place, eclectic music, clean & Alysa took such great care of us!! We haven't left yet & I'm already thinking about my next time! Hidden gem if you enjoy a burger so tasty it doesn't need anything!! read more

Marginal at best. Wings were cooked as I asked, but didn't impress, which is unfortunate. Fries tasted like they were cooked in same grease as fish and chips. Not good. The staff was great and atmosphere was welcoming. Not a fan of country music so having it so loud was a turnoff for sure. Sorry folks read more

8/31: Back again. This place is busy and the service is starting to sync. Just had the 3AM burger. It was the bomb! Ground beef, cheese, secret sauce , baby cakes and a fried egg on top...Heaven. The gentleman next to me had the same but with Brat meat instead of Ground beef. Gotta try that next. Bartenders are friendly and fast. Enjoy! Great place to stop in for a drink and bite. The new layout is much more inviting and just larger overall. I personally recommend the Angry Shrimp! They are still working out some kinks being new, but management is hands on and wants to get it right. Love the burgers and tacos. Enjoy. read more

First time going to this restaurant and have to say that the service was excellent. Katy was our server and recommended a few dishes to try since we were having trouble deciding what to order. Unique menu that takes normal pub food into a fun twist. We ordered apps and drinks. Everything was fantastic! Can't wait to try the other option on our next visit! read more

The food is not that well portioned out unless you order a burger. We have been there three times and I think the first time was good because they had just opened. The past two times we went on special nights as in bingo or trivia and it feels that If you are not a regular there you do not get noticed much. If you want to just go for a drink I say go for it. If you want food worth the money there are plenty more food establishments in Plainfield. read more

Never have I or anyone else that I have brought to Backroads been disappointed with their food. They have the perfect mix of quality and creativity with their menu. If I could swing it, I would go here at least once a week....it is just that good. Practically all their appetizers are fantastic although the philly rolls could use a touch more flavor as they are occasionally a tad bland. Every single burger on the menu is heaven and the only thing I wish is that they had a slightly better craft beer selection and better dessert options. In the end, nobody and I do mean nobody should pass this place up. Any negatives that do exist aren't enough to take away from this place being a 5 star establishment. read more

I ordered some food for take out real simple a cheeseburger with bacon, and a buffalo chicken salad. When I got the food home I noticed no utensils for my salad no big deal. Then I open up my burger and notice no bacon and now I am getting frustrated so I pick up the phone since they are new and wanted to inform them as I love me some bacon. The woman on the phone was nice enough but as I start eating the burger I find a piece of plastic that appeared it came from a piece of cable now I am mad and they will never get a second chance. read more
