With the Disney dining plan, we made all our reservations for sit down dining well in advance, and decided to play our quick-service meals by ear. While at Hollywood Studios, we got hungry and found the closest location to the Star Tours ride we had just finished riding. The Backlot Express is a large restaurant and have a very basic menu or hamburgers, hotdogs, sandwiches and salads. the food is actually pretty good. We were so surprised, we decided to come back on the last day of our trip as well. They have specialty desserts that change from day to day so keep a look out for that. On the day were were there, they were celebrating May the 4th be with you and had Darth Vader cupcakes that were chocolate with peanut butter filling. Definitely a treat. Had a chance to try the new menu and was mildly impressed. We ordered two things: Chicken tenders with fries: the same type you get anywhere else in the park. Not bad but also just okay. Biscuits with gravy. Same chicken but at least they are dressed up with delicious gravy and jam. Personally I wanted more jam and thankfully you could grab that at the condiment station. Hollywood studios is generally my least favorite park for food. My recommendation is see if you can plan to go over to Epcot for a meal or Springs depending on how long you'll be in the park. read more

Its Disney folks... you will be charged $12 per person for medicore fast park food. Surprisingly, Backlot Express had other dining options than your typical burger, hot dog and fries. They had items like salads, buffalo boneless wings and so on, which makes it appealing especially if you on day 3 visiting a Disney park. My husand and I went at about 1PM the last Saturday of Star Wars Weekends and YES the line was huge and YES I had to spy on tables to get one, but the food was actually pretty good! And the best part of it all, is that the restaurant has tables in air conditioning (hallelujah, because it was hotter than the interno outside!!) Overall, we had a great experience at Backlot Express. Next time we are visitng Hollywood Studios we will definitly dine here :-) read more

Pretty standard counter service menu for theme parks. Cheeseburgers, chicken, fries, club sandwich and salads. We ordered the chicken tenders and buffalo tenders. I didn't try the plain tenders but heard no complaints from my daughter. Buffalo sauce was in the mild-medium range. Dessert was specialty themed cupcakes (Star Wars) chocolate with peanut butter frosting, ganache & vanilla with caramel frosting and both had large chocolate decoration on top. Was just as good as those sold at gourmet cupcake shops. (note frosting is of whipped variety not buttercream, so you are not disappointed) Didn't have to wait long to order. A menu hack that I use is ordering their kids basket - which is enough for a good sized snack or light meal (two tenders, fries, a drink, and a cookie)! There is always ample seating, and little to no wait for your food. This is a decent place for a theme park food joint that doesn't break the bank. We got the Backlot Burger, which is basically a pulled pork/burger hybrid and was nice and filling and tasted quite decent. The chicken tenders that came with the kids' meal actually quite surprisingly hits the spot when you're hungry as well. Fries were fried nicely. No complaints at all about the whole meal. Also got the chocolate chestnut pinecone dessert that was really nice and delicious. Unfortunately the holiday blondie was dry and unimpressive. Order at the counter and sit down with your meal! The food here was decent. My family and I were hungry, so we came here for some burgers and salad. So, we went all out! We ordered bacon cheeseburgers, a chicken salad and french fries. Luckily, the condiment bar had a loads of condiments for dipping and topping. There was plenty of seating inside and outside. We sat inside because my husband practically got attacked by birds, when he went outside with the food. I have to say that the burgers were just okay - kinda dry actually, but the chicken salad stood out from everything. The chicken was quite moist and fairly large, so more than enough to share. My husband even got a free slushy drink because it was his birthday. If you are looking for something quick and more substantial, they definitely have something here for you. Always great to a find a place with decent vegetarian options. The Caprese Sandwhich was really good. The portion size was nice and filling and came with a side of fries. My husband went with the Chicken and Darth Vader Waffles, which he also liked. The Star Wars themed food options here are pretty cool. Galatic Chicken Salad: Ask for less dressing, or dressing on the side. It's good, but just too much. Chicken is a bit dry (as to be expected in such a place), maybe we'll try to get a protein-less salad next time. Black beans and avocado were delicious. Royal guard burger: It was all eaten. They put it in the same container as the fries though, so the fries get soggy from all the sauce dripping down. :( Kid's Dark side chicken and waffles: I regret not trying this while it was hot. My little one didn't really care for the waffle and she said it was too dry and hard to eat. They offer your average junk food: Burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, etc. The price's about the same (a bit overpriced), but then again they all are. Backlot is my go to quick service when eating at Hollywood Studios. They have a wide range of drinks and also a very decent salad which is probably one of my favorite salads on Disney property. There's not much to it but on super hot summer days I cannot force myself to eat another nugget or burger so it's a great option. A cast member had recommended this place to us and I was thrilled he did. It has indoor seating which is a hit after walking around in the heat all morning and there are a good number of tables compared to some quick service locations. The restaurant was clean and the staff were all nice. My daughter had the dark side waffles and chicken and she ate almost all of it. My husband had a burger which he enjoyed. I had the royal guard burger which was huge! I could only eat half and that was stretching it. Our burgers came with fries that were ok but my daughter seemed to love them because she kept stealing them out of our baskets when she thought we were not looking. If we are lucky enough to get to go back to Disney this is on our must eat at again list. read more

We came to this restaurant because we had heard a ton of reviews of the cool Star Wars themed meals they had. We had our food picked out before we even left for the trip. Th atmosphere itself was interesting, but not the most exciting. The location was nice and easy to get to however. We showed up to order and I got the dark side chicken and waffles which were average. My husband wanted the dark side burger, which was supposed to have a black bun. We're both instagram foodies and he was very excited to post the photo. Sadly they took it off their menu. When he asked if they still had it, the staff wasn't very friendly with why, they just shrugged him off. The other members of my party also felt that the food was average compared to other quick-service Disney eateries...good enough to eat but nothing to write home about. The seating is abysmal though! A large amount of it is outside (not fun in the summer sun in FL!) and what is inside is extremely limited. There seemed to be a serious lack of available chairs despite the bevy of tables that are present, which is very annoying when you find 4 empty tables and no way to sit at them! What is it about quick service meals lately that are freaking delicious? We were hungry and had some time to kill before our next FastPass (Indiana Jones!!) so we stopped in to Backlot Express for a quick bite and drink. We ordered chicken nuggets and fries and a cup of water (thank God it didn't taste of sulfur - water fountain drinkers beware). The nuggets were fresh, hot, crispy, delicious, BBQ sauce available at the condiment bar along with my favorite style of honey mustard - the kind that is more honey than mustard and thin. Had big wad of family visiting, about 12 of us. We timed our lunch terribly, mid-Spring Break, about 1pm. Surprisingly, lines were not that long, maybe 8-10 deep. But... they didn't actually move. Ordered and paid after 25 minutes. Then waited for my burger and fries and bottled water. And waited. Watching the food get delivered was strange. After 10 minutes, about 75-80 salads came out. Then 40-50 hot dogs. After 20 minutes total, I got my meal. Overall time for fast meal: 55 minutes. Overpriced, of course, but not bad. read more
