First off I have to say is that the host or manager read the notes I made when I made the reservation for Mom's 94th birthday. The host, staff, serves could not be more accommodating..They were perfect all around to even lowering the fan and a/c for Mom. I have to tell you that the server and The Food delivered; it was one of my best meals in a long time. Started without a cocktail, sidecar, ummmy...Then switched over to a bottle of Clos du Val. As for the food, I started with the spinach, lobster and shrimp gratin, very good and my entree was the rack of lamb medium rare cooked to perfection. I then chose a chocolate martini to go along with my chocolate dessert which was also very good. Others had a beet salad, mesclun salad and a chilled soup (cucumber dill)...All were happy. Entrees pork tenderloin, and a saffron risotto stuffed eggplant. We will be back again, before the summer is over...Thank You Back Porch Cafe.

Delicious meal and great service at Back Porch Cafe. They rotate their menu very often so you can continue going back and always try something different! I was bummed that they were out of the ravioli the night that I went, but was happy with the fish cake which I have a picture of.

We happened upon this place walking around and are so glad we did! It is reminiscent of a courtyard restaurant in New Orleans, tucked away down an alley, which is what attracted us to it. We sat outside and drank in the ambiance as we waited for our excellent server Alina to bring our drinks and appetizers. We had no idea when we walked in that the food would be the star of the show. (And we highly recommend the pear martini and margarita.) We started with Gorgonzola flan and a beet salad (no pics, sorry). The flan was light, creamy, and savory and was in a well-seasoned bed of spinach. The beet salad had apples, beets, arugula, and goat cheese. Main courses were delightful. I had halibut with sweet potato purée and corn chowder, and my friend had the rabbit. Both were well prepared and the flavors went together perfectly. Dessert was a limoncello cake - lemony delicious! It was hard to choose between the desserts on the menu but this one was a winner. Always look down the alleys in Rehoboth- some of the best places are tucked away from the touristy bits!

The Back Porch is so lit! You can sit outside downstairs or on the upper deck which is so gorgeous! The owner, server, bartender, chefs, each individual that helps create a unique experience every last person is so kind, inviting, and attentive! As for food, there is truly something for everyone, and I am so excited to return back!

I am grateful for this place continuing operations after harsh times. It is my favorite place in the area. Tonight, Rory made our night. The customer service experience is exceptional. The food is outstanding! This restaurant is a gem in Rehoboth!

Cocktails were innovative and well executed. Meals were delicious. It has a romantic vibe even with the 80's music playing lightly in the background. Last night we started with the fritters 6 for $11. We got two artichoke, two cauliflower and two corn fritters. We picked the horseradish sauce and a rémoulade for our sauces. Delicious. I loved the corn fritters with the rémoulade-so flavorful. We got a play on an old fashioned for our drinks, inclusive of some smoke that enhanced the drink. The food was excellent. We started with an order of their fritters. We order two types of fritters Parmesan risotto with a red pepper aioli, and Apple pie with vanilla caramel. Fritters were perfectly cooked, crispy exterior, tender interior, and flavorful with or without the sauce. Maybe we should have ordered the Apple pie fritter for dessert instead of an app. Entrees I had the Grilled Heritage Duroc Pork Chop. Perfectly cooked and delicious. My wife had the Grilled Black Angus Beef Hanger Steak, which was cooked perfectly rare (how she likes it) and was tender and delicious. For dessert, an amazing Cannoli. The inside of the shell was coated in chocolate keeping the shell crispy. Well flavored cream interior and tart raspberry coulis on the plate. A delightful dinner all together.

Now we know why it's tough to get a seat; this is quality dining that brings customers back again and again. Ben and Diane (mixologist/hostess respectively) have been the owners for two years. I can't make any judgement about the prior ownership but I can say the current owners have nailed it. It was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. We sat at the bar and from the outset Ben made us feel comfortable and he obviously appreciated us as customers. The cocktails were exceptionally prepared. It's obvious he is not merely a bartender and is proud of the special attention and customized twists given to some very traditional cocktails--Sazerac, Manhattan, cosmo. The cream based crab soup was hearty and the seasoning was well balanced. It was a great start. My partner had the fish special and I had the short ribs as entrees. Both were spectacular. Ben had told us that "if this were going to be your last meal, have the short ribs." It wasn't our last meal but his assessment was accurate. I can't recall having short ribs that just seem to melt in your mouth. We were going to defer on dessert but opted for a variation of a flourless chocolate cake with caramel topping. Served warm it was the perfect end to a perfect meal. It's obvious that Ben and Diane have assembled a team that is as committed to excellence as are the owners. We've already made reservations or our next visit. Can't wait!

It's definitely not a large establishment so making a reservation would be recommended.

After many a weekend spent and many a restaurant tried we welcomed new eats at The Blue Hen. This menu is intriguing- small, tight but inventive- we were so excited to eat here! Was wonderful in having a table ready when we arrived for at-will, no reserve seating at about 7pm. Quiet corner. Promptly greeted by our server. She was gracious, so nice, and helpful our whole dining time. We ordered readily, in Mom's overwhelming hunger, lolol. Ordered the Lobster Toast and the Yellow Tomato Gazpacho, as starters. Amazingly accommodating on our order of this gorgeous gazpacho. We were given 2 bowls to split this tomato beauty. A few spoons of smooth & sweet, acidic, flavorful, gripping. Could have ordered more! The Lobster Toast- Accompanied by a concoction of radish, sesame, bitter-sweet....stunning bites in this salad. Unfamiliar but pronounced in the combination. Well done. The lobster- Absent. Wished for an open faced variety. Or at least a dish that advocates for lobster. Charge more. Bigger brioche. Pronounce those beautiful lobster bites in presentation. The lobster as served, was not the star. Ok, a moment for cocktails though- Whoa. Killer kill. The Church Girl Martini. Blessed be in evil, haha This Girl was too tasty in being that strong. So good in flavor, unbeknownst combos. A definite Watch Yourself and watch out for!! Entrees.....well when ordering was told the Sea Bream was out- disappointed on that. The entree menu is small, so should keep available. And when we entered the restaurant it was busier after we sat....so why out of a primary fish already?? So decided ahead- Mom had the Burger and I had the Crab Cake Sandwich. The burger- smashed, but still big patties. A perfect medium. Good overall. The bacon jam was an ask on the side. The bacons were really spicy lardons and were delicious. My crab cake sandwich. Hmmm. You are a sandwich. For the pricing, it's not there. Ate the Lumps, but the rest of the sandwich should I say was in the Dumps? Nothing to be said of standout. Would recommend putting this crab cake as a stand alone entree with accompaniment. Forget the bun. Overall food gets a 3.75. Drinks, environment and service a 4. The Blue Hen is not Spent. But also is not the Top Chicken.

Lets begin with the atmosphere because it was delightful. Its a small, intimate space where the spirit of a speakeasy shines through easily. We went for drinks and apps and I gotta say we will be coming back for dinner for sure me and my wife. How about the food and drink? Well, any of y'all who follow me know I'm not a huge drinker, but I did try the Oolong Hot Toddy and was extremely happy! Warm, the sochu and tea mix so well together, a nice garnish of candied ginger and lemon makes the presentation of this delightful little libation. (Ha, a pun!) Now, the food. Cheese board was great but, thats cheese anyone can assemble a cheese board. No, my credit goes to the crab dip and the calamari. Both dishes were done perfectly, not too greasy, beautifully crunchy calamari and supremely flavorful crab dip. Overall an easy 5, I'd rate 6 if I could.

Make reservations as this is a small space. Very comfortable seating. Lots of decor that again fits the space. Great music playing as well. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and then escorted back into the speakeasy which has its own door. Once inside, we were greeted and introduced to the two servers who worked together all evening. They were very attentive and friendly. They made the visit enjoyable. The menu lights up... literally. Super fun to pick from the numerous drink and food options. For a speakeasy, you will be surprised at how many different options there are. The prices are beyond reasonable for the craft cocktails and amazing food. Started off with cocktails (first round) - Veruca Salt (highly recommend due to its spicy foam & deliciousness), Purple Butterfly (yum), The Ultimate Dirty Martini (very pungent), and The Smoked Cherry (nice presentation/event - also tasty). All of these were delicious and made well. Second round was The Night Shift and a Brown Butter Old Fashioned and again, both delightful. Dessert round was Creme Brûlée Espresso Martini (highly recommend - great presentation with a small mallet that cracks the brûlée on top & absolutely amazing - this is a sweet drink so loom as a dessert option), Espresso Martini (hazelnut flavor and good), and a Carijilo. All items from the bar were super tasty and well made. This is a craft drink place and the quality and attention to details are spot on for the speakeasy vibe. Not only are the drinks superb, but the food is also very well made and very affordable. We started with the cheese tower which is a great option for a group to enjoy. We also ordered the calamari which came with the most delicious horseradish dipping sauce, and lamb lollipops (4 per order). All of this was delicious. Then, tried the seafood bisque, French onion soup, Pumpkin/Crab/Mushroom Soup, and Seared Sea Scallops. The soups were super filling and all had a terrific flavor profile. The scallops were served on risotto and this was great. Seriously, the food is amazing. Not what you normally would find in a speakeasy. They even had dessert options (we had drinks instead). This was a lovely experience. Just overall fantastic and a great surprise hidden in a beach town. For sure make reservations. If visiting for the week, just go ahead and pick two nights to visit so you can try all of the things. Well done. Looking forward to another visit.
