Due to feeling very fragile post-festival and knowing that my recently unemployed friend had time on his hands....I set the wheels in motion for a 'Breakfast'! It didn't matter to me that is was 1 in the afternoon. I wanted food....and I wanted it to be good.
So off we trundled to Bacchus. Now I rarely stray towards Clifton for my first meal of the day, due to its location in comparison to my Croft-y home add to the fact that I can rarely afford it. However I had it on good faith that this was a secret gem that had to be experienced.
On pulling up and parking on the street outside the restaurant I thought we had made a mistake and arrived at a French bistro The canopy, designer patio furniture and middle aged couples sipping on wine with their lunch would make the ordinary, student-esque twenty-something feel out of place....but I was here now so may as well continue.
It's worth it! The service is friendly, punctual and not too in your face. In the end breakfast went out the window...even though my Baccus fan friend swears by them! So anyway, he went for a steak sandwich and myself a lamb and rosemary burger in toasted bagel all washed down with a generous pot of tea each (we were still, no matter our menu choice, in brekkie mode!)
Both meals were beautiful, large in portion, the steak cooked perfectly medium rare and accompanied by fresh salad.
I did have to ask myself halfway through eating how much this would hurt my pocket but it came in at £11 quid each. Ok, more than you would pay for your average breakfast, but if you take in my late awakening for the day, plus its extensive all day breakfast menu (which I endeavour to review at a later point), then this is the place to go.
The best, most affordable (and posh yet friendly atmosphere) I have experienced in Bristol yet. read more
