I told them well you're not being very nice to me so I'm gonna write a bad yelp review. Trust me do not go then she assaulted me. He punched me in the face, I called the police and, he was arrested I do not recommend this place. Period.!!!

Flinty Red will survive though, I think. Corks of Cotham, the nearby independent wine merchants (also well worth a visit) are behind this restaurant, with the focus being on getting the perfect bottle to complement your meal. They're passionate about wine here and will take the time and effort to make sure you get something you're happy with. The food's French and Spanish influeced and very much made to match the wine list (which with 100 choices really is comprehensive). The food is well sourced, with plenty of care and attention put in. Whilst you might end up spending a pretty penny of wine the food is reasonably priced, which means you can feel a bit less guilty for spending so much on drink. Not to busy at the moment, but still a decent atmosphere. Head here especially if you're a wine afficienado, but even if you're not.

The staff know their stuff, so if you need help they're happily at hand to ask. The prices are very high, reflecting the quality of their produce and their Clifton location. If, like me, you're on a budget, I'd recommend the Cotham Hill Bakery or Chandos Deli instead. But if you've got money to burn, then this is the place to shop away before a dinner party.

They're very well stocked, with food items ranging from starter products, or 'antipasti' as they call it (there's a bit of an Italian theme here) to the full selection of cooked meats. Along with this, there's shelves and shelves of pastas, oils, drinks and beverages, jams, vinegars - the list goes on. The staff know their stuff and clearly love food - they'll give their honest opinion on any of the items. Indeed, the whole shop bases itself on food knowledge- they market their products on the strength of what they go well with - they'll let you know that a particular cheese matches a particular type of meat, for example. It's all quite impressive, but the price tags turned me away. A bit like Chandos Delis (though perhaps a little more unique), an excellent food shop if you've got the budget to match their prices.

It's got a nice romantic feel to it, especially if you come here at night as every table has a candle on it. As such, it's not really a drinkers pub, but more a family orientated/civilized kind of establishment, but this is no bad thing. There's a good range of ciders on tap, and especially on a summer's day, it's a perfect palce to sit down by the water and sup on a cider, and they've got a large outdoor seating area to allow you to do so. It is a little bit on the steep side in terms of price, but just about worth it if you're coming for a civilized drink or two.

I'm talking about a ploughman's, or fish and chips, or my favourite, welsh rarebit (it's not just cheese on toast if it's cooked properly) with the best homemade chips I have ever had. The service was lovely and friendly, even though it was boiling and very busy. The meals at this pub are served with proper chutneys, cheeses and sauces and actually go some way to convincing you that we do actually have national dishes in this country that people might like to eat. Seriously though, try the Welsh rarebit with a side order of chips and a bitter shandy...that's British summer time...you can keep your fruity Pimms Boris! We actually got off to a bad start as when we arrived all of the outside tables were reserved! So it's the hottest day of the year and a pub with lovely food and a beer garden is losing business by reserving most of their outside tables and not letting people sit on them even when they are empty. This is their choice, but a bit of a ridiculous system to be honest. You are actively turning business away for people who aren't there and could show up at a later time. So my suggestion is book a table. And ok so you wish the pub was facing the other way; more toward the river and less towards the road, but now I'm just nit picking.

Our dinner itself was brilliant, yet not overly expensive, and my starters consisting of sliced duck meat was exquisite, very tasty. I succombed to a "moules-frites" main course, and while the mussels were well cooked and tasty, I have to say that the chips were not truly the french fries you'd get in Brussels, the mussel haven... Anyway, the home-made mayo and tartare sauces were great, and aside from the surprise of seeing my colleague getting served her ordered of a bread platter (I'd never seen that, ever before), the night was a great one. Today I finished my other colleague's spaghetti, which we took away at the end, and they reminded me "Go back to Bristol !"

Downstairs is a cafe/bar and delicatessen and up stairs is the restaurant. I've never actually eaten in the main restaurant as the food served in cafe is of a very high standard and there is always a great selection that changes frequently. The Deli also sells a lovely selection of fresh bread, cheese, cakes and other great food. It's a great place to buy gifts or create a food hamper. Today I went for a tart with celeriac remoulade. I can't remember what the tart was called but it was delicious. My mum had the fish and chips and which is a Bordeaux quay fav for her and it didn't disappoint!
