Wasn't pleased with them. It started out great. Michael came by the same day I called to do an estimate. He told me that another estimate I'd gotten was way too high and he could do the job for half the price. I raised the concerns the other contractor had cited (I have concrete walls, making demolition difficult and costly. The other contractor had advised me against gutting my bathroom because of the cost.). Michael waved those concerns off. Turns out he was wrong. Apparently he had no experience working in a 50s building like mine, as he didn't know what would be involved. A $12K estimate turned into $27K because the demo WAS difficult. He also encouraged me to mislead by condo management company so they could put a dumpster in my parking lot, which is against the rules. I refused, so I had to pay to have demo hauled away. Meantime I had (probably) asbestos-filled debris piled in my living room for weeks. Also, the guys sent ME to Home Depot a few times for extra supplies. Who knew there were so many white caulk colors? I had to call the guys for guidance as I stood in the store aisle.
Also, his guys mis-measured the space for my shower door. I ordered one and it had to be returned because it didn't fit. This was only discovered after they had drilled holes in my tile to put in the door. Thereafter I had to wait more for a new shower door. (Michael then "did me a favor" by calling a shower door company where he knew the people, and they came and did a measurement for a supposedly discounted rate.) Also, they painted my other bathroom walls, but not the trim. I questioned this and they said the trim would be extra money, and this was "standard" for how it's done. Huh? If a room is painted, trim gets painted too.
And then there was the issue of the slanted floor in my bathroom that was gutted. This made the wall next to the shower door a bit tricky to finish off. The guys left it looking rough and sloppy, and i had to call Michael to come back and fix it. He struggled to think of what to do, so I suggested painting it. This fixed the cosmetic problem. He also installed my (very basic) accordion blinds that day and claimed that Blinds to Go had not included a part. I had to call Blinds to Go, where they assured me that the parts were all there. They told me my contractor didn't know what he was doing. He got on the phone with them. Then he said he figured it out. A few weeks later I went to pull the blind cord and the blinds fell down. He'd just sort of rigged it in a sloppy way. Finally, the guys left fingerprints on my freshly painted ceiling. I had to point this out to them before they cleaned them off.
The bathroom looks pretty good, but this company was just...not professional. I felt like I must be their first job. They DID show up when they were supposed to, and Michael always answers his phone. This is unusual for a contractor (in my experience they tend to disappear for long stretches). But that's a low bar. A tiny bathroom took 7 months to complete.
Edited to add: I hesitated for a long time before writing this review because I'm not out to harm anyone's business. I have mixed feelings about the ethics of posting negative reviews online, unless we're talking about a large corporation. However, I ultimately decided to post because I was sucked in my all the positive reviews for this company when I called them. And 5 stars isn't the experience that I had. I would hope that IF a company isn't doing a good job, or doesn't do a good job every single time, the reviews would be balanced. Therefore, I felt like I had to share my experience. It's likely not the same experience everyone has had with this company. But to me, this isn't like a single bad experience in a restaurant. This was several things over months of very expensive work where I was writing check after check and pointing out things going wrong that needed to be fixed (and many other things went right, as you'd hope and expect). I HOPE I'm one of the only ones who had this experience with this company. Maybe my circumstances (condo, 50s building, no driveway) would make things difficult for any company. I hope I'm being fair. read more
