The chebureki were terrible -- extremely greasy, oil was literally dripping from them. Impossible to hold in your hands; they just fell apart. The pork dumplings didn't even last 3 minutes before the dough came apart and completely fell apart. And what you call cabbage pies is a whole different story. I have never tasted a worse dish in my life. There was almost no filling, and whatever was there was bland, dry, and completely tasteless -- no soul at all. We waited about 40 minutes for this "pleasure"! In the end, all the food went straight into the trash along with a significant amount of money. Come on -- this was supposed to be food for children! A terrible store, terrible prices, and terrible service. Complete lack of respect for customers. If you decide to open a place with Ukrainian character, to represent values and showcase our culture -- please add effort, responsibility, and at least a drop of professionalism. Because what you are offering now is a disgrace, not Ukrainian cuisine.

The noise in the restaurant was at a higher level so keep this in mind when planning. The interior of the restaurant has a simple yet cozy feel to it. I enjoyed the interactions with my waiter. He was friendly yet not overbearing. If you order the kachapuri it will sit heavy on your stomach. You may want to order it as your main entree or share with others. I also ordered a Georgian chicken dinner but had to take it to go. They are a little more on the pricey side too. Overall, worth it though. I like the neighborhood this place is situated in. There is street parking as well and the front entrance isn't far from curbside. I enjoyed my visit here. They're open until 10:00 pm on Fridays. If I had more time in Winnipeg, I would return here. Perhaps next time? I will most likely return to Winnipeg at some point. This city surprised me in many ways.

I found the battering of the schnitzel to be a tad too doughy for my likely, but it was easy to remove one side of batter and enjoy a slightly lighter meal. It's a cool spot and it was filled with regulars which gives it a homey vibe. They'll accommodate big groups but it's not really the spot for massive group meals. The dining room has a max cap of 48 and tables are set for 4.

The first time I stopped here I tried the not that expensive Borscht Soup. It tasted more like beets the vegetables more than anything else and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was very filling. The crab meat salad came with lots of fruit pieces on the side which was interesting. The mashed crab meat concoction in the middle was cold like potato salad or coleslaw salad and it was pretty good. I loved the small pieces of crab meat and potatoes! They were tasty. The lemon soufflé was just okay but hard to stop eating. You can't just take one spoon bite, you gotta eat all of that soft fluffy cream because it's delicious and easy to digest. My friend liked his Pecan chocolate pie and he said the chicken soup was okay but I noticed that it didn't have a whole lot of chicken pieces and noodles in it. Service was polite and happy to answer questions. I found the waitress helpful.

For beverages we had Sangria, cream soda and a Frau Rouge. We started with the Honey Butter chips which were amazing. We also ordered the plant based polenta, Brussels with ricotta, Zaayoon soup and the walleye Mac n cheese. Everyone loved their dishes. The meat eaters thought the walleye Mac n cheese was the best. I was in love with the veggie polenta. For dessert we had the PB + Chocolate Chess Pie. Everything was delicious. We sat by the kitchen and it was amazing to see how the cooks worked in such a small space and how well they communicated with each other. The space is cozy and fun. The staff were kind and helpful. Per the ten year old: "The honey butter chips couldn't have been better. For my main meal I had the walleye Mac n cheese. It was gourmet Mac n cheese with perfectly cooked fish on top and the pasta was bathed in a wonderful herby cheese sauce. Even my dad was sneaking bites of it. The PB+Chocolate Chess Pie was in scrumptious bite size pieces, the waitress even artfully arranged the spoons. Bonus there were bathrooms. We will definitely be coming back."

Olympia Diner is a Greek-style diner in the Westwood area of Winnipeg. Definitely not an area I go to often since I live Downtown, but I wanted to try this place for the longest time. I had a lamb souvlaki, topped with a greek salad and rice. It was delicious! Their portions are huge, and I ended up taking some of the salad and rice home. I actually prefer here over Taverna Rodos personally. My friend ordered the saganaki for an appetizer, and oh my god that cheese was amazing...we even got the opa show as the cheese got flamed.
