BIIIIIIG portions and tasty food ! For some reason I was craving a ceaser salad and this place didn't disappoint. I found the battering of the schnitzel to be a tad too doughy for my likely, but it was easy to remove one side of batter and enjoy a slightly lighter meal. It's a cool spot and it was filled with regulars which gives it a homey vibe. They'll accommodate big groups but it's not really the spot for massive group meals. The dining room has a max cap of 48 and tables are set for 4. read more

This place is cute full of comfy unpretentious European mom and pop owned diner restaurant vibes. It's a small place with pretty good quality food. The first time I stopped here I tried the not that expensive Borscht Soup. It tasted more like beets the vegetables more than anything else and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was very filling. The crab meat salad came with lots of fruit pieces on the side which was interesting. The mashed crab meat concoction in the middle was cold like potato salad or coleslaw salad and it was pretty good. I loved the small pieces of crab meat and potatoes! They were tasty. The lemon soufflé was just okay but hard to stop eating. You can't just take one spoon bite, you gotta eat all of that soft fluffy cream because it's delicious and easy to digest. My friend liked his Pecan chocolate pie and he said the chicken soup was okay but I noticed that it didn't have a whole lot of chicken pieces and noodles in it. Service was polite and happy to answer questions. I found the waitress helpful. read more

My first visit to Bistro Dansk was at lunch. My husband and I were the first patrons there, as we got there right when they had just opened. We both ended up ordering the Dansk schnitzel ($13.95), which consisted of a "lunch portion" of breaded pork tenderloin, roasted potatoes, and the option of either mixed vegetables or sweet and sour cabbage. I opted for the sweet and sour cabbage, and my husband inquired about switching the roasted potatoes and mixed vegetables/sweet and sour cabbage for their danish style potato salad, which they were able to accommodate for us. I was really surprised by the size of the schnitzels, considering it was only a lunch portion. I can not even imagine what the dinner portions are like. The schinitzels were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. My husband thought it was quite good, and that it was kind of like a tonkatsu or Japanese deep-fried pork cutlet, and my thoughts were the same. I didn't get to try his potato salad, but my husband really enjoyed it. I also liked my sweet and sour cabbage, which went well together with the schnitzel. We were also provided with complimentary bread and butter as we waited for our food. We left feeling very full after our meal. The next time we come here, we would probably just get a schnitzel to share and try one of the other dishes on their lunch menu. read more

I went to the Bistro Dansk for dinner tonight and again it is still consistently one of the best restaurants in Winnipeg. I had the appetizer Cesar salad to start and the other diners had the spicy mushrooms, both were very good. I had the Morbradbof and the other diners with me had the half chicken and Filet Maria Teresia. All were great! I have been eating at the Bistro Dansk for over 20 years and I can confidently say that I have never had a bad bite of food there. Great food at reasonable prices and huge portions. I cannot think of a better Winnipeg restaurant in its category! read more

Good food and service. Cosy atmosphere with Danish theme.

Arrived for what was supposed to be a lovely dinner for my 30th birthday party and made reservations for 5 guests including myself yesterday for 6pm. Upon arrival, shortly discovered they had booked us for 5:30pm and have already given the table away. We have been asked to wait outside while another table was given to a group that just walked in. I was looking forward to tasting the food again as I had only been here previously as a teen. Extremely disappointed with the service and will not return again. read more

Wow yum! I'm a huge fan of places that is worth my $ and I judge it in terms of quantity, taste and service. I came in to get takeout at 8:45pm and greeted by the hostess who asked the chef to whip a schitnzel up for me. When she said she'd add the menu to the box, i didn't know what she was meaning, until I saw the BIG box full of my food! I got mounds of chicken schitnzel, a full size baguette, a whole thing of roasted potatoes, a full thing of cabbage, and no one told me that the chocolate eclair was a full size cream puff! Wow this is ridiculously awesome. Granted, I got takeout and I suspect the meal in house wouldn't have been so grand, but still awesome. The Schnitzel was as good as I expected. The breading was thin, but still crunchy. The chicken a bit dry, but good with lemon on it. The potatoes were perfect, and I liked the cabbage. THe french loaf would have been better warm, but it was toasted to perfection and moist on the inside. The place looked like a small euro lodge, and the hostess was really friendly. I totally recommend this to anyone who's looking for a hearty cozy meal. read more

This was our first visit to Bistro Dansk. We found our meal to be delicious. The portion were large. We had to take part of it home with us for our next meal. The service was excellent. I have already recommended this restaurant to friends. read more

Bistro Dansk is the epitome of comfort food. It's the type of place where you get amazing value for your money because it's really two meals in one and you are put into a food induced coma after finishing part 1 of 2 meals. So forget your diet and loosen up your belt or better yet, wear your comfy pants if you're going to eat here! Who knew the Danes had such comfort foods! For $18.75 - get yourself their infamous dinner size Chicken Schnitzel meal! Seriously, it is an amazing meal. I was first introduced to this dish about 9 years ago and I've had this dish several times since and I think it gets better each time. You get about 3 large pieces of thinly pounded chicken schnitzel (think of it similar to the Italian version of "scallopini"), then you get a nice helping of their famous O'Brien potatoes which is the most amazing warm potato salad (not the mayo kind you might think of) along with pickled cabbage or steamed veggies. I like the pickled cabbage more as it gives the dish some sweet & sour balance but the veggies are nice too but nothing extraordinary. And you also get a nice serving of baguette which is crunch outside and soft inside - better when it's warm. The chicken schnitzel has the crunchiest breading ever and never tastes greasy despite being pan fried. The chicken is perfectly cooked and tastes very juicy. Now the breading doesn't have a ton of flavour so squeeze some lemon juice on there as the dish does come with a few wedges of lemon. Then eat the schnitzel with a bite of the O'Brien potatoes and some cabbage and you'll be in heaven. I can have a pretty big appetite but could not finish this dinner size entree! It was lovely for lunch the next day. Oh and all of their soups are amazing. The soups actually taste like their cooked with with love and passion. The menu isn't very large but what they do serve is very good Danish cuisine. The staff are always oh so warm and friendly here and the interior offers a very cozy feel. Though the tables are a bit close together. The restaurant does give that feel of an old wooden ski lodge. Just a warning as you when you do take out, you will be leaving with a box to carry all the styrofoam boxes. A take out order for two looks like you're carrying out out enough food for 4! The doors open oddly as you exit so that caused a bit of trouble when I was leaving with all the food! This place has been around for many years and had quite the cult following even before it was profiled on Food Network's "You Gotta Eat Here." But I'm so happy that the secret is out on this place. Parking is wherever you can find it on Sherbrook. This place is located just north of Misericordia hospital (on Sherbrook), just a few steps from Boon Burger. read more

Awesome food. Had the pork schnitzel with Potatoes and sweet and sour cabbage. Huge portion! The schnitzel had a crispy coating and was juicy inside. The potatoes were like a warm potato salad and were very tasty. The sweet and sour cabbage is phenomenal. The price was I beleive $21.95ish but well worth the price. I highly recommend it as a place to go. Only downside is that parking is on the street and we had walk a couple blocks. Friendly service! Since I don't live in Winnipeg I would love the cabbage recipe! read more

If you're looking for a huge, home cooked meal to end your night, this is the place to go. Right when you enter the atmosphere yells "You gotta heat here". I ordered the schnitzel and my boyfriend ordered the stuffed veal which was stuffed with ham and their homemade cheese. Everything was amazing. It was perfectly cooked, and huge. By the time I was stuffed it looked like I nearly put a dent in the plate! If you want schnitzel, this is the place to get it. I had seen a review that stated that Bistro Dansk was on You gotta eat here, so we decided to try it. The owners were right up with costumes and more than excited to tell us about them being on the show. I must come back here for more schnitzel! read more

We're looking for great schnitzel and boy did we find it. Everything form the service to the meal were outstanding. A definite revisit.

One of the greatest restaurants in the city. Totally family owned and run- from the homemade soups to the world class schnitzel, this place does it right. Portions are very large, and reflect a wide variety. For lunch, the open faced roast beef sandwich is tender and moist, and the chicken livers are to die for- sautèd with mushrooms, onion and bacon. For dinner, items like the kyling(roast stuffed chicken) and rainbow trout round out a fantastic and rewarding menu. Wine list is on point. You have to check this place out!! read more

So it's our last weekend here in Winnipeg and wanted to try something new before we head back home. How about European/Denish cuisine? Sure, why not! We knew before going in that the portions here are large and they weren't kidding. We were there on Saturday afternoon, around 1:30-ish. It wasn't packed but had a few occupy tables there. We were accommodated nicely with our young children. We took a look at their lunch menu and the Chicken Schnitzel was their specials so we decided to order that. We also tried their Chicken Noodle Soup and Cesar Salad. We had everything set in the middle and did a family-style lunch. Homemade Bread: 3 stars, not bad but I think I'm spoiled by Fine Dining in Vegas fresh warm bread. My kids and I still enjoyed it. :) Chicken Schnitzel: 4-5 stars, crispy and excellent coating of flour and batter and the chicken was moist and tender on the inside. It came with two big pieces of chicken for their lunch size portion. I'm also in love with their potato salad. THE. VERY. BEST. I'VE. EVER. HAD. Their potatoes were in small cubes with a hint of dill and radishes. Delish!!! Cesar Salad: 3 stars, I think it would have been great if they didn't drown the salad in the dressing. Chicken Noodle Soup: 4 stars, surprisingly tasty. I didn't expect clumps of dough (hand torned dough?) as my "noodles" but I enjoyed it. Minced veggies and hand torned chicken, good stuff! Their portions are generous, so come hungry! read more

Great food and great service. I spent three hours having a long and they were very attentive without being impatient at all the food is all very authentic and delicious. You can tell that it has been made from scratch with a lot of care and attention. read more

I was so excited to take my family somewhere different tonight: although we live in Wolseley we haven't been to Bistro Dansk. Arrived early and service was very friendly and familiar. Our waitress was good and the food was good, not great. My experience was ruined by a woman whom I took to be a manager or even an owner- over the counter I was asking her a casual question ( based on the easy going rapport she initiated) "just a minute please.." She replied. Not realizing what was happening I started to say oh I am sorry I was just.. "Just a MINUTE please" She said again . Demeaning- embarrassing and downright rude. I will not be back again for a very long time. Boo Not pleased read more

Have wanted to eat here for ages and now I have. Wow you could feed a family on a plate of excellent food here. A family operated establishment with great service and food. Will be back for sure read more

First time here and I had a pleasant experience. There isn't a whole lot of Danish/European places in Winnipeg, so it was nice to mix it up and try something new for myself. Started off with their bread which was great, it for sure felt and tasted home made. I had the HAKKEBØF, which is minced beef steak topped with fried egg served with potato salad a sort of zesty dill sauce, and some pieces of fruit. I'm a sucker for meat but specifically steaks, so I had to order this dish. I would say it was good. Tried a bit of the pork schnitzel and thought it was very good! Everything had familiar flavours and was tasty. It didn't taste like it had been sitting in the back for hours either, it tasted more fresh like it was prepared after it was ordered. It did take a while to get our food, but I think it was worth it for the freshness. Good portions, friendly service, and in a fun neighbourhood. Would say it's worth a try. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! It is a family run restaurant that runs on love and really delicious home made food. The servers are friendly and the meals overflow your plate with the comfort foods that you were hopefully lucky enough to grow up with. You definitely get more than you pay for. read more

Horrible! From service to food. The woman who, I believe, co-owns this places is the rudest person I've ever met. She was snippy and dismissive to my elderly grandmother. She would not allow me to park my handicap vehicle in their parking lot, as it's for "staff only", although there was no staff coming or going at the time. She was going out of her way to be rude, when we were nothing but friendly paying customers. My food was just a pile of dried out lunch meat on an equally dried out piece of bread. Sure, there was enough to feed an army on my plate, but it was boring and hardly edible. My grandmothers chicken wasn't much better. All I remember about it was the grease. Definitely the worst restaurant I've been to in a long time. read more

Ate at this restaurant a couple of weeks ago. Truly FIVE STAR. Food was delicious, and a huge serving that warranted two take home boxes. Prices were very reasonable, considering we ate at a major steak chain the night before, and as far as I am considered, in no way did we get our money's worth as we did here. Owner's daughter was our waitress, and is a wonderful friendly young lady. If you are visiting Winnipeg, or live there and have not tried this restaurant you MUST. Again a FIVE STAR rating, in all areas. See you again Vocadlo family.... read more

Just saw this restaurant on a TV show called "You Gotta Eat Here". I have not been but I thought that I would post a review because after watching this show and the chef in the kitchen I feel like I have just walked out of their door after an amazing meal...except for the fact that I am still hungry. I will be going very soon and I think that I am going to bring my Nana with me! She will love it! I am so excited to try the schnitzel with cabbage and potato salad. Another menu item that I would be all over if it is on the daily soup menu when I go would be the Borscht! The portion sizes in this place are huge! For me, I would share a meal or take the leftovers home to enjoy! I will post again when I finally find time to stop in for a bite! For now they get a 5 star rating based on the TV show. All fresh ingredients and a lot off love and passion goes into the cooking! read more

Do not go to this restaurant. I had one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had i my life and I have eaten all over the world. The food was terrible and the waitress was even worse. I was served what was supposed to be Pate - which was warm, mushy liver with mushrooms on top of it and when I complained that this was not even remotely Pate was told that I would have to pay for it and was not offered any kind of apology. One of my dinner companions was served fish that was obviously off and freezer burned, and another companion was served what looked like shoulder for a filet of steak. Waitress was rude and did not apologize for any of the food. Horrible place. read more

This place was a great experience. It is a tiny little place tucked into Sherbrook st. The Hostess/Waitress was excellent. She was so friendly and smiley and tentative, about as good as you get in a server. The menu was a little small, especially if you try not to eat meat, but I chose the fried mozzerella under the sandwich section. The waitress infromed me it wasnt a sandwich but I was still game, it came out as these 2 MASSIVE pieces of mozzerlla in breading and deep fried with like 1.5 cups worth of potato salad on the side and a few slices of melon. The fruit was delicious and so was the potato salad, which was not overly mayonaised and had a nice rustic texture with a nice crunch of pickles. Everything was so big and rich I couldnt even eat 1 whole piece of mozzerlla and only a couple mouthfuls of potato salad. The only thing I wish was a little different was the amount of breading on the mozzerlla, it was so thick you wouldnt really taste the cheese itelf. It did come with a sauce, but I am not a sauce person so I didnt try it. I would def reccemond this place for a nice quiet lunch. read more
