I'd taken a break from Indian food after getting very sick after eating it on 3 separate occasions. It'd been about 10 years, so I decided to go again, but try different things... The common denominator in each of my previous 3 trips was chicken curry. I started out slow w/ lamb mushroom and naan. This food was soo amazing we went back a couple weeks later for the Chicken Tikka, again it was perfect. The service was great!! I've only ever eaten lunch here from the buffet, but I've never been disappointed. There is always a curry or two and saag paneer or palak paneer. There are lentil dishes and vegetable pakoras, naan and raita, and tandoori chicken. Lots of different choices all kept hot, and since there is usually a crowd nothing sits out for long. The food is delicious, but I love Indian food and I'm not sure I have the most discerning pallet. The tandoori chicken is awesome. The tikka masala is spectacular too. I like coming with a group and trying a bite of everyone's food. The service was OK but they seemed a little annoyed the entire time and that was off-putting. This place was as close to a high school hangout as I ever got. The fact that this was our regular spot, and not some pizza joint, is a testament not just to the quality of food at Baba, and it is excellent, but to the explosion of good Indian restaurants in Cincinnati in the mid 2000s. Yes, Baba has a lot of competition in the TriState, and it is still the best. When I first came here I ordered Lamb Korma every time (Try it. It's wonderful.), but I have since branched out. You should too. There are so many excellent dishes, the Saag Paneer, the Chicken Tikka and Chicken Tikka Masala, you'd have to come back many times to make a dent in the menu. The lunch buffet is the best introduction to this restaurant. It's inexpensive and flexible. Eat as much as you can sitting down or try to cram as much food as possible into a generously sized takeout container. My friends and I used to feed two people with one takeout buffet order ($4 per person at the time, a bargain). At dinner, budget-conscious diners can run into trouble here. Dinner at Baba, with appetizers, a lassi and a garlic naan, can hit $20 or more. The smart diner will stretch the order with rice and save half of it for lunch the next day. You don't have to exercise much self-restraint. It's too much food for one person. If you're in Oakley, you must try this Eastside institution. read more

Excellent food and service. I took my toddler with me for dinner with friends, which can always be hit or miss. Our waiter was very attentive, made sure we had enough to drink, and brought out my child's food as soon as it was ready so I could prepare it before our food arrived. I didn't even have to ask. This is a no frills restaurant. You don't go there for the atmosphere, but if you're looking for authentic Indian cooking, Baba is a great choice. I am a lamb-freak. Give me lamb and I'm a happy camper. It just so happens they have a long list of lamb dishes. Chicken and vegetarian, as well. English is spoken by the wait staff. Other family members who set up the tables don't speak much. They smile, but don't engage in conversation. Well, you're they for the Indian food, not to mingle. I brought my daughter and her friend to eat here. A man from there- presumably the owner, asked what their ages were. I accidentally said 11 for my daughter's friend but corrected it because the girls were both 10 years old. As I proceeded to pay I gave them a $3.00 off coupon (which says for lunch buffet equal or lesser value). I got charged $7.99, 11 years old pricing for each child AND they didn't want to accept the coupon because they already charged me 11 years old pricing..... But the coupon clearly stated "equal or lesser value." I won't go there ever again. They don't comply with what their coupon says and charges whatever they feel like charging for kids. read more

This is probably my favorite Indian place around. They do a nice job, even if a little pricey for what you get. Their nan and rice is really great, as are the veggie dishes. I would recommend going for dinner before trying the lunch buffet, which is OK, but not great. Make sure you go in here expecting horrible service, because the service REALLY SUCKS....always!!!! Like seriously don't expect to be greeted with a smile, or have your drink refilled or stopping by to see if your enjoying your food or need anything else...etc. We go in with low expectations as far as service. I will never go back here again. I have eaten here with my friends and family almost once a week for years. Today, the person I was with didn't feel well and couldn't eat more than two bites of her lunch. I asked them to please put her food into a box so that she could take it home and I was told absolutely NOT. I explained that my friend had taken a small portion and had not gone back for seconds and simply wanted to take her food home for later. I don't have much to say about this place because unfortunately my husband and I left even before we ordered food because of their poor service & disgusting cups/utensils... When we entered the young guy who ushered us to our table was fine but then after we sat down some older woman came and asked us what we wanted to drink. We told her that we wanted water and then I noticed that my cup was completely hazy from a layer of dried up dishwasher soap or something. So I nicely showed her the cup. To my dismay she picked it up and traded it with the cup from the table right next to us and before even turning back to our table she poured water into the other cup so that I couldn't see if it was actually clean. She slammed the cup of water in front of me, rolled her eyes, and walked away... after she left I noticed that there was a half kernel of rice floating in my cup of water that she just poured which means the cup wasn't clean, again. We were so disgusted by their cleanliness (or lack there of) and their service that we left before ordering and went down the street to Shaan Indian restaurant which we were really pleased with. Run by the same owners as Ambar India on Ludlow, this is the best lunch deal on the East side of town! Their lunch buffet (11:00 - 2:30) is a great way to introduce finicky eaters to Indian cuisine, not to mention available every day of the week! Everything seems to be prepared in small batches, so it's always fresh and hot. Order off the menu or carry out, and you're treated with extremely quick service (when we visited), and great food. The service still leaves much to be desired - they always seem like they could care less about you being there. (I think it's all in the welcome... It always feels like you're interrupting them to be seated?) In all the times I've visited, I've only had one particular server that was communicative and helpful... but the food is fantastic and quick, so I keep going back. No one ever said great food was easy! Five stars for the food, three stars for the service. Definitely try the garlic naan, special chicken tikka masala, chicken makhani, lamb korma, vegetable samosas, and the saag paneer. You really can't go wrong here! read more

I have been frequenting the Baba lunch buffet for several years. The food is pretty decent and the lunch buffet has a nice selection at a good value. However, the servers are some of the more unfriendly people I have encounted in the restaurant business. While I certainly do not expect top notich service at a lunch buffet, the times that I have been to Baba for dinner, the staff has been pretty unpleasant. All in all, Baba offers good food but loses points for service. read more

If you enjoy Indian food, DO NOT GO TO Baba India. It has the worst food and service of any restaurant I have been to in the city. I have eaten here several times and have been beyond disappointed every time. Today I stopped in for the lunch buffet to-go bc I was in the area and starving and ended up wasting $8.75 on greasy, watery, bland food. It was so bad that I ended up throwing most of it away. In addition to the awful food, the service was poor. After waiting 5 minutes for an employee to even acknowledge me (all but one were on their phones) the lady was extremely rude and impolite. Baba India offers a variety of acceptable to excellent dishes on their lunch buffet. The excellent dishes include their saag, aloo gobi (or a similar aloo dish on some days), chicken vindaloo, and the best Tandoori chicken in town. Acceptable dishes include the rather bland choley and chicken curry. Fridays and Sundays have the best selection on the buffet, and they have bhatura as well as naan on those days. Tandoori chicken and saag are always present, but other dishes come and go. Food quality varies from day and day. The excellent dishes are always worthwhile, ranging from simply good to amazing. read more
