Lovely people, really good, fresh salads and a great vegetarian breakfast (egg) sandwich. The people are also very friendly and helpful. Having said that, I have gotten 3 almond lattes there that were sour (and I only go there on occasion after acupuncture around the corner, so I havent had all that many to begin with). One of the sour lattes was to replace a sour latte! My local coffee barista explained what Baba Cool is doing wrong (wish I could remember - calibration, maybe?). If they fix the espresso/latte issue, I will upgrade to 5 stars. (Though, I'm not sure I want to chance getting another sour latte!) read more

Just visited baba cool after its recent reopening and am really into the new menu- plus beer and wine on tap and a bathroom for customers! Added perk is the new friendly staff working there. I highly recommend the braised lentils and roasted cauliflower w/ charcoal tahini and ghee from the updated evening menu (plus a glass of the sparkling wine). Also ordered take out for breakfast and we were both pleased with our meals (baba bowl and warm chia pudding) and impressed by how warm and fresh everything arrived. read more

It's a cute place. Queer friendly. Healthy options and reasonably priced for the hood but overpriced for simple sandwiches. It's laid paid, quite place to work. However the service could be better. Every time I have gone there I have had a different service person but every time the service is terrible. Took 10mins for someone to come to the register. Then she disappeared to the back. She says that she was doing the dishes. The next time I went in there, a different service person totally had a breakdown while taking multiple orders. If you are ok with slow quirky service. Unorganized. They made me wait 25' for gluten free avocado toasts, only to tell me that the bread was frozen and that I had to wait 8 more minutes. They gave me my money back but they didn't even offer to buy my lunch... Also pretty dirty. read more

I went on a monday night for dinner and had a very disappointing experience. We were the only guests in the restaurant and we never got the soups we ordered. One of our main course was cold and greasy, the other one, the coconut curry fish didn t have any sauce and when I asked for a side of it, they brought me something cold, fermented and totally awful. The food is incredible particularly the gluten free toast and open sandwiches but it ultimately isn't worth the time, headaches or the cost. On two different occasions I ordered their toast and specifically requested them to be gluten free. Once I started eating it and commented on how amazing the GF toast was and was told it actually wasn't that bread. The second time I asked upon receiving my order whether it was gluten free and it wasn't. They didn't apologize on other occasion for mixing up my order which is really frustrating when you have an allergy. They remade it on GF toast but the service is so slow that it was at least 20 minutes before I had food in hand. Fortunately most restaurants in NYC and Brooklyn are very conscientious about allergies. If you need a good (nicer) option Green Grape is just a few yards away and has awesome GF muffins and much better coffee. read more

There is a big selection of healthy meals at this place. They got pretty decent coffee and the decor is very cute. Try he toasts, they are really good Especially the avocado one. I have tried the salads couple of times they are also ok. There are two things I did not like about this place . The first one is that it is a bit pricey for me. Should have known by the pretentious name of this place to stay away. My first and last experience. Yes, my fault for not asking how much the teas cost as for some reason they do not post tea prices along with other drinks. Drank a cup, it was good, not out of this world. Got up to pay and was told it was $4.25! Why? Because It is a 'special tea'. (Even more than the $4 latte). I frequent coffee shops all over and never encountered such an unwarranted price. Guess people who eagerly drop $7.00 for a doctored up piece of toast don't mind. Also not a particularly clean place. While I was there the top to the ketchup bottle popped off narrowly missing me, landing on my table. No one bothered to clean up the splatters of ketchup on the counter. Enjoy! read more

Great pear and roasted parsnip soup, awesome salads and sandwiches...just a great addition to the neighborhood EXCEPT the people that man the register are always a disaster: spaced out, getting orders wrong, letting food sit and get cold while they chat and check phones. The cook is often calling out ready orders because these folks are too busy socializing or watching shadows move. read more

laughably overpriced, slow service, inattentive staff. My $8 breakfast sandwich was basically just eggs and bread thrown into aluminum foil - it didn't resemble a sandwich at all and fell apart the moment I unwrapped it. Making it pretty much inedible, given that it's a sandwich meant to eat on the go... never again. And my condolences to anyone showing up there thinking it's reasonable to pay $5 for a half ounce jar of coconut oil. Get over yourselves, Baba Fool. read more
