After my initial review, the owner sent me an unprofessional text message referencing my ethnicity,…read morewhich was completely inappropriate and disappointing. "There's no doubt that we Latinos bring each other down. That job was worth $1,000, and I gave you a fair price. Anyway, thanks, Yuri." I had hired this business because I wanted to support a small, local company, but this experience has shown me otherwise.
I didn't add this piece because as I mentioned the movers were great. The owner made the mistake. During the move, the U-Haul truck they provided and i drove had severe alignment issues, making it unsafe to drive on the expressway, I brought it to the movers attention they were with me in the U-haul,and the additional personal truck they used was not properly equipped for moving -- it had side panels and no cover for protection.
The entire team was super nice, and the owner was very hands-on. He came by about a week before my move to look at everything and determine what size truck was needed. He decided on a 26-foot truck and recommended three movers, assuring me that everything could be loaded in about an hour and the whole move would take around 3.5 hours.
I told him I'd also have additional help since I've had bad experiences with movers in the past. On moving day, I had six people helping, and by the time the movers arrived, almost everything was already outside and ready to load. The team worked quickly and got the truck loaded in under 30 minutes -- they really hustled.
However, it became clear very quickly that not everything was going to fit. I asked for a second truck, but the owner insisted it would all fit. Unfortunately, it didn't. They ended up using a personal truck, and we had to pack additional items into two of our own cars. I even had to drive the U-Haul myself.
From the start, I had mentioned that we might need another truck, but my concern was dismissed. The owner said the truck was sufficient for a three-bedroom move and suggested I probably had more items in closets than expected. When it became obvious the truck was too small, he even asked if I could pay for gas for the extra truck, which I declined.
The move ended up taking about five hours instead of the planned 3.5, and most of the delay was caused by poor planning and the truck size -- not the movers themselves. The movers worked hard and stayed professional the entire time. The owner did reduce the charge to 4.5 hours, but I still feel I should have paid less, since the delay and extra hassle were due to poor planning, not anything on our end.
Overall, the team was great, but the management and planning could definitely be improved.
