I had B-side on my radar for quite some time before finally making it out to check this place out. My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday night to grab a drink and just hang out. We managed to snag a booth and sat and enjoyed our drinks and the ambience. There was a DJ who was playing awesome R&B music. The drinks are fairly priced, especially for the downtown area. This is definitely a nice spot to come hang out and chat with your friends, although it did get pretty loud as the evening went on (towards the end, my boyfriend and I were practically shouting to hear each other from across the tiny booth table). There is a lot of street parking nearby but most of it is metered until 10 PM. read more

Sick dive bar with great music. Came on a Sunday afternoon after lunch for some drinks and it did not disappoint. Great decor. Music was Wu Tang heavy, lots of 90s Rap and Hip Hop. Server was friendly, and poured stiff drinks; loved it. DOGGOS EVERYWHERE! After reading a few other reviews, I'm confused as to why/how the brunette female bartender still has her job. When my friends and I arrived, I asked a (male) bartender what special drinks they had that were unique to the bar- he made a FANTASTIC drink called "The Bob" and it was so good that almost everyone in my friend group ordered one as well. Later when he left, and she took over, I could immediately tell the vibes were off with her. She was short, rude, and judgmental- when I asked for The Bob, she gave me attitude and said "that guy is always making sh*t up". The entire time we were there she seemed annoyed at the fact that she had to make drinks, and after reading countless other reviews that mention her specifically, I know this wasn't a one-time thing. I will never come back here . After walking in with a friend to meet other friends a mid 20d male started harassing us at our table, when we told him to please leave after several inappropriate questions the male bouncer told me and my friend that we needed to leave. I was completely shocked as we had gone there to meet friends and haven't even had time to order a drink yet. We try to pay no mind to this guy who was harassing us and we got kicked out based off of telling him to leave us alone and him proceeding to call me fat when I told him to please leave. Absolutely horrible service and unfair treatment will never be returning. read more

Worst bar in sac. Horrible, in terms of customer service, and this is an understatement. We had a large group of people who would have tipped well (I'm assuming tips are important for those in the service industry) but the bar tender was the rudest person I literally have ever met. We asked for drinks and she immediately became combative. We ordered tequila shots with a pineapple sprite back, and she told us that was too much work for a "back that is free" then she proceeded to berate us as if she were in a position to judge. I would fire her if this were my businesss. Representation is key. read more

This is my first time here on a busy Friday night. It definitely deserve another visit, maybe on a less busy night. This place is small and the layout makes things even more crowded. Restroom are located directly right of the dance floor which is unpleasant. The music was way too loud to hold a conversation with anyone and the dance floor was too small to even dance. I think they should just stick to mellow music and let people talk to each other. The bar is probably the preferred sitting area here. This place gets so crowded that it make it hard to order any type of drinks. Definitely try to get bar sitting so you don't have to run into this problem. Overall, this is a mediocre place. Would like to see them tune down the volume and let people have a chill talkative night. read more

I feel like I'm back in the 80's when I step inside B-Side because of the fun artwork of cassettes inside the bar as well as the really cool decorated women's bathroom, which has similar art. There was a DJ playing music on a recent Saturday night and with people dancing toward the back of the room, others filling up every bar stool and all but one booth occupied (we grabbed the last spacious booth) B-Side provided a fun, comfortable atmosphere for drinking with friends or on a date. The room is a bit narrow, with the bar on the left as you enter and booths on the right, but it is worth coming to as it has a laid-back vibe and plenty of happy people around. I could barely hear my date over the music and crowd, but loud bars=people having fun and I am a fan. There was an outlet at our booth, which is a nice touch for charging phones. The bathroom was clean and had a really pretty, modern-looking sink. I kept things simple with a Stella, but I'd like to explore this place more and enjoy the music with some cocktails next time. read more

I recently checked out B-Side as a guest DJ for one of the regular nights the bar hosts. First, the sound is great and the DJ equipment was ready to go. The Rane mixer and Technics turntables made this DJ very happy. Second, the atmosphere was just great. Laid back, with folks lining the bar, settled in booths, and on the floor. Not much dancing, but there was just a good buzz. The decor has a cool vintage vibe, boosted by the 70s and 80s flicks shown on the big screen behind the bar. Third, the bartenders and staff were most welcoming. Bonus: the bar has a dedicated parking lot. Looking forward to returning to B-Side. read more

I really loved this place until the bartender was replaced with by a women with brunette hair. She was not aware of the establishment drinks and belittled you when ordering. Def killed all vibes. It's unfortunate whatever she is going through is being reflected on her work towards clients, talk about feeling entitled. B-Side is a back to the basics, stripped down dive bar... and that's all I was hoping it would be. I don't know if it's all just for opening weekend but there's a DJ in the corner booth spinning the danciest, dorkest 70s and 80s LPs, the bartenders are enthusiasticly dancing along, they're playing Flash Gordon on the 2 TVs behind the bar, and $10 got me 2 strong mixed drinks and a shot. Nice update to the old hardcore Monte Carlo. Now it's cleaned up, has some decent local art, has funky old school movies, and is music themed. On weekend nights they have a DJ spinning, the rest of the time it's whatever viniyl the barkeep likes or Pandora. Last night they had Pandora going with an eclectic 80's mix, and then the server played The Kinks - Give the People What they Want. Nice, need to dig that one out again. Good service. Friendly staff. Nice interior. Beautiful pine bar. Haven't tried the booths yet. On the TVs they play old movies - Death Race 2000 and The Evil Dead Army of Darkness while we were there. One Disappointment: Only three beer taps: Oly, Dos Equis (shudder), and Panic (yeah!). Four or five more choices in bottles. Come on, we have 10 breweries within 10 miles - how about some more local choices?? Two Complaints: 1) They look closed from the outside. With no neon OPEN sign, the minimal lighting, and tightly closed blinds it is impossible to know if they are open or closed without peeking inside. 2) No food. There is a new Roxy deli nearby though, as well as all the R-Street joints. This was my second try, and I'll be back. It's a cool spot. read more

Ahhhh! I'm so conflicted about how many stars to give this place. I found it on opening weekend by accident. It was just about 2PM so it was empty and BEAUTIFUL! I love the decor and the wood countertops are incredible. There's quite a bit of seating for such a small place and let's be real, the place looks like a giant record player... How cool is that? It gives off this vibe that it's going to take you back in time to a simpler day. **For a place to have an atmosphere that makes you feel like that, wow! Before I continue I want to say, I'm 29 and still very much in the social scene. I'm not some old lady who can't handle loud music and crowds. I was just looking forward to a different option. My conflict? I went there my second time on a Monday night with about 7 friends thinking it would be sort of low key. I'm an AVID record collector and love the mellow sound of records vs. loud "club" music. Boy was I wrong. Not only was it not mellow, the music was so loud I could feel it in my chest. The place was packed to the gills with people smoking cigarettes right in front of the door practically blocking the ramp to get in. I was so crushed. I know collecting records is super "hip" and trendy these days but I actually loved this place because I like the idea of a chill hang out with the sound of a record playing. It's more of a DJ spinning extremely loud house music. :| It was hard to get drinks but they did have some good beer options. The bartenders weren't particularly friendly the second time I went in but that seems to be the trend with these "hipster" scene places these days. Shady Lady (the other establishment this owner runs) has the most pretentious bartenders in midtown, so I can't say I'm surprised. Apparently making a good Kraft cocktail, means you have to think you're better than your customer. I'll give this place a third shot, and then update my review... But as for now it's just another on the list of "I probably won't go cause it's too hard to get a drink and not so fun while you wait." read more

This dive bar has a very laid back and cool atmosphere. Props to the DJ last night for playing the funky 70's soul beats! It was pretty crowded for a Thursday night and every booth and bar stool was taken. The bartenders did a great job of engaging us folks that were lurking behind the people sitting down at the bar. I ordered two old-fashions that came out to $16.00. There was a steady flow of patrons going in and out so we didn't have to wait too long to snag some seating. There is no food served here which makes it a great after dinner or pre-party spot to grab drinks. read more

Classic dive bar atmosphere. The bartenders are legit though and very friendly as well as helpful. They aren't pretentious about their craft at all but are extremely talented and will explain whatever you want to know. This is great because they have some of the best cocktails I've had in Sacramento. The drinks are just mixed so well the ingredients take on a new transcendent identity. If you don't believe me just ask Chad for a sazerac. The downside for me is the lack of really cool sipping whiskeys. Nothing on the shelf is worth just getting a pour of in my opinion. So I go with a cocktail and am plenty happy. The space is limited so it's hard to find a seat sometimes. And the vibe is definitely a dive bar vibe but if you're cool with that it is a great place. read more

I received literally "the rudest" service I've ever received, at B-Side. Hailey is absolutely the rudest, most despicable person I've ever encountered. I was having a conversation with someone, and enjoying my drink which I had literally just ordered...and then, without any notice, all-of-a-sudden, Hailey says to me, "hey creepy guy, we're closing...get out." That is literally "the" rudest thing anyone has ever said to me. I'm not a psychologist, but it's obvious that Hailey hates men, and especially for a bar that prides themselves on being welcoming of diversity and people of all walks of life, for her to say that is completely despicable. Hailey should not be working in customer service. As soon as they fire Hailey, I will come back, but until then, I will not spend my hard earned money on rude service, only to be unfairly judged, and treated so poorly, and with such utmost lack of respect and dignity. You don't call your loyal patrons creeps in front of everybody at the bar, just because of their gender. Shame on you Hailey, and to the owners reading this, if you want to stay in business, stop hiring people like Hailey...unless you want to go out of business and get sued for for discrimination. read more

The drinks are poured well, the concept is great, and the movies on the screen are fab. I had a vodka cran, and then a vodka cran lemonade, poured by two different very friendly people and the drinks were consistently good. Things that could make it better? 1. STOP letting people bring their dogs into a crowded bar with loud music late at night. I feel for the poor dogs I saw there that night. And no, they aren't service dogs. It was just entitled hipsters being douchey. 2. Turn the music down just a little, it doesn't have to be quiet by any means, but it's not exactly a giant space and when you're on the other end of the room in the corner, and even shouting at the top of your lungs, you can't hear your friends- it's TOO LOUD. read more

If you don't like dive bars this you probably won't like this place. B-Side is pretty small, so it can get packed on weekends. It's a cool corner bar, the painting on the outside of the building looks like records and on weekends they have dj's spin with vinyl. If you happen to have your phone charger on you and your phone is dying you can charge your phone in a booth there. There's only 3 or 4 but it's nice to know that's an option. They often have theme nights which are really fun, there was a Wes Anderson themed night, Tim Buron, The Big Lebowski Night. They almost always have some cult classic playing on the TV's, or some weird movie from the 70s, definitely won't catch any sports here. read more
