She is incredibly meticulous and detailed with her haircuts, wonderfully gentle and careful with washing, and amazing with hair color. You can tell she takes so much pride in her work and pays attention to every little detail. My hair is very difficult to cut because of years of processing, but she worked her magic. This is hands down the best haircut I've had in years! If you're looking for someone who is skilled, thoughtful, and truly cares about the quality of her work, I highly recommend Kiyoko.

To make sure there would be no misunderstandings, I called the salon again the day before my appointment to re-confirm. During that call, the front desk asked about my hair texture, and I explicitly confirmed that I have fine, naturally wavy hair; she assured me it was not an issue and confirmed my appointment with Yuka. When I arrived today and sat down in the chair, Yuka took one look at my hair and flatly refused to cut it, stating, "I can't cut your type of hair. I never cut hair like this before." She suggested I rebook with their curly cut specialist, who was not even working today. When I reminded her that I booked a week out and specifically called the day before to confirm my wavy texture with the front desk, Yuka snapped back, "Why did you come here?" At that point, I cut my losses and walked out. It is one thing for a stylist to lack the technical skills to cut anything outside straight East Asian textures, but handling a client with that level of hostility and disrespect is inexcusable. To take time out of your week, confirm twice with staff, sit in the chair, and then be aggressively asked why you even showed up is appalling customer service. If your hair has any natural wave, curl, or texture, save your time and dignity and book somewhere that understands diverse hair types and treats clients with basic respect.

I went here expecting a wonderful experience based on the yelp reviews. While the cut and color were pricey, it would not have been unreasonable if I had liked my hair when I left. I went to see Erin based on a recommendation since Kim was quite booked. From the moment I sat down she dismissed my opinion and pushed her own on me. While I appreciate stylist insight, especially on cuts, I have seen enough color on me to know what I like and what I don't. After deciding on highlights, she went at it. Somewhere in there she decided to just do a full color and informed me half-way through. The cut was alright, but again not what I had wanted. She seemed more interested in doing what she felt would look good even if I felt I would rather have something else. Moreover, she had a very unwelcoming demeanor and gossiped far too much with other stylists *about* other stylists. She made little effort to engage in conversation and basically ignored me whenever possible. I gave it two stars instead of one because I liked the atmosphere (outside of the gossip) and she did fix the color when I decided I just couldn't stand it. But, I would not go back, nor recommend anyone take the chance. read more

Go to WAK Shack...You will not be sorry!!! This is the first review I have written on Yelp, though I have used the service many times. Yelp is actually how I found the WAK Shack in the first place. The place is decieving from the outside. At first it looks like a cute, quaint neighborhood salon, but once you are inside you see the newly redoecorated professional decor and quite a few stylists working and doing Amazing hair! I have seen a few different stylist there, I'm bad and don't make my appointments ahead of time, so I get whoever is available. But this is fine because everyone has been fab! Kat gave me amazing colr, she really took her time talking to me and together we decided on something that would be fun, flattering and good for work. Simon and Fillomena have both given me amazing cuts, I feel so special whenever I walk out of there! And they are affordable..$45-$60 for cuts!! Thank you Wak Shack!!! i was at the salon one day and saw a friend of mine getting this new keratin hair straightener... i have been wanting the Japanese one for years, but couldn't get it cause of my bleached and color treated hair. Well to my surprise this new keratin one if meant for hair like mine, i have always struggled with sort of curly hair, that would get frizzy if i tried to blow dry it, after this treatment, i can let my hair air dry, have a little bit of wave to it, kinda sexy, or just use a regular brush and blow it out, and its straight. It has the most amazing texture to it now, everyone comments on how soft and shinny my hair is. i love it! i am absolutely thrilled with it, and when its time to get it again, best be sure i will be there with cute little bells on! This salon is great, everyone can do everything, i always hate salons where one person colors your hair the other cuts it, its ridiculous! read more

I've been coming to B Parlor for almost a year now and have had great experiences with both Noeleen and Sammy, who have been brilliant. However, every interaction I've had with the desk staff has been terrible. I feel unwelcome every single time (not greeted with a smile, staff is disinterested and impatient), and I've experienced this with 3 different members of the front desk team. Never went late to an appointment the year I've been going however, when I missed an appointment recently due to a last minute emergency I got a mouthful from the front desk girl when I tried to reschedule. Updating an already very long review but keeping my OG post below. Cassie reached out to apologize…read moreabout our interaction and also refunded me for the service - which I appreciate - more so because of the humility and courage it takes to apologize, since it was never about the refund. OG post: I'm actually very sad to write this review because sanctuary salon and Cassie have always been my go to when it comes to getting a decent haircut or color in the city. And while Cassie is an incredible and talented stylist and I've always loved her work (5/5 to her for that) - this review is about how she handles customer service as a salon owner and also about the apprentice program. How she speaks to customers is unbelievably condescending and rude and why after leaving the salon in tears I will no longer be coming back here. To back up - Cassie posted about her needing a model for her apprentice program on her instagram for grey coverage. I put my hand up and her apprentice, Danielle, messaged me directly. She booked me for an appointment - I received no confirmation or communication about price or time taken, but I figured it was just grey coverage (I do it myself at home and it takes 10 mins) and it's part of a learning program so it couldn't be too bad. I get to the salon, she makes me sign a waiver "no refunds for this apprentice program" - I figured okay... still just gray coverage and it's just paperwork. So I sign it. The apprentice stylist has a mentor the whole time she's working with me. When she applies the color, she tells me the process is 4 hours and $100?!!! Which I didn't know on either count before. But it's too late to do anything at this point so I'm like fine? And the apprentice has a mentor who she keeps asking questions to so it seems like she can figure it out and keep it going 4 hours later, after a mediocre blow out, I see that maybe 5/500 grays covered. I'm confused - how could this be messed up? When I ask the mentor - she's confused too. The apprentice stylist basically shrugs and says "grays can be resistant." Mentor calls Cassie in. Cassie enters the conversation - basically starts with boilerplate "it's an apprentice program you signed the contract this is all we can do for you, guess it didn't work out this time". When I ask her what she thinks of the work - she asks the apprentice what she did. On hearing her plan (applying permanent color only on 1 inch of the root and then toning the rest of the black below) her feedback is basically "no that's not right, you should've done more permanent color and double processed it". So I finally realize what happened - the apprentice did the wrong thing - which is totally fine cause she's learning and this is what the appointment was about. What shocked me was that her mentor didn't know any better either and approved her plan with no feedback to fix it. I then tell Cassie that what's done is done for today, but for future feedback for paying clients, apprentice program or not, that maybe she should listen to her apprentice's plan earlier and provide her expert feedback before they start executing. She turns around and says "I don't need your feedback, I've been doing this a long time". Then she begins to berate me and says "you're not a good fit for the apprentice program" and basically blames, shames and belittles me for not being happy that I spent 4 hours and $100 for basically nothing?! I honestly wanted to cry - but instead decided to have a reasonable conversation with Cassie to let her know that feedback is a gift and she can choose to take it or leave it. She makes it clear she's "too busy handling a renovation on the 2nd floor and it's not her job to supervise the apprentices or the new mentors on the floor." I realized it was pointless to continue on - so I paid the $100, cried and left. I wanted to share this experience despite being conflicted about it because of how talented Cassie is as a stylist. But as a stylist and salon owner, you provide service to people - but this is obviously not something sanctuary is able to do. A little kindness in this situation would've gone a long way but that was not the path chosen.

I found Mia on social media (TikTok) and after a couple of months I chose to book an appointment through the salon's online booking system. I booked for the following day, and my appointment was approved by the night before! As far as hair styling pricing goes, this salon's prices are really hard to beat! $100 cut and $100 color?! That's amazing. Onto the actual salon (and I'll finish with the experience). This place is SO incredibly charming and charismatic inside. The decor is not only gorgeous but also intentional! There's a fully stocked waiting room which I actually used and felt comfortable in, not something that's typical for me! That waiting room had tea, coffee, still and sparking water! A ton of awesome cups that looked like they were hand picked for the space (the details do matter). The bathroom was incredibly with wallpaper enthusiastically showing off many bird species. There was a coat closet for both hanging coats but also for choosing whichever salon robe you liked best! The salon space itself was full of natural light and thus perfect for the service it's used for! To the experience: Mia was absolutely AMAZING. I cannot find the adequate words to describe how at ease she made me feel as someone with severe anxiety. She asked questions and listened to my stream-of-consciousness ideas about the haircut until we decided on a game plan, and then she got to work! She did EXACTLY what I asked for, a cut to give me face-framing layers and some layers in the back to lighten my very long hair's load on my scalp. I already adore my new hair but honestly, the experience Mia provided was so noteworthy that, I have to gush! She had questions lined up to fill that often awkward silence during haircuts and I so appreciated that. She also gave me totally solid advice on what to do in the future with potential coloring sessions. I'm really grateful to have found Mia on TikTok, because if I hadn't, my hair would've been the same tonight as it was yesterday! Mia you ROCK, and I will be back.

This review is for Aric (@hairicc), who recently took over Belles and Whistles, though his lack of…read moreprofessionalism makes it hard to tell. I would not recommend doing business with him. I visited to blend a few grays, aiming to avoid constant dyeing. I even brought a photo of a girl with dark hair and blended grays which I attached. Instead, Aric went overboard with highlights, turning my entire head blonde--nothing like the photo. When he offered to add lowlights, I declined, as my initial request had already been grossly disregarded. While I remained calm and professional throughout, things escalated when I approached him about a refund. Aric became irate, gaslighting me by claiming I had "more grays than I realize" and dismissing my concerns as an "identity crisis." His disrespect and argumentative attitude forced me to end the conversation and block him. After paying thousands for a result I didn't ask for, this is unacceptable. Additionally, he has no liability waiver or clear refund policies, either written or verbal. Treating clients this way is a baffling approach to running a business. I feel terrible for the stylists there who are of sane mind and ethics. I attached what I asked for vs what I got. Aric's unhinged texts are comedy and I'd be happy to share those via private message.

When salons opened back up in SF I decided it was best to stick close to home. I've been buying hair product at jungle red for years and they were friendly folks so I figured I'd check out their work online. Right away I gravitated to Jen and booked an appointment. Not only was all the safety protocol followed (it was only me, Jen and one other client and stylist across the room and we had masks, hands washed, temps checked, etc) but I was blown away by the service. Jen was lovely and VERY thoughtful in selecting colors, explaining her thought process but also knowing when I wanted her to take charge because honestly, she knows what's she's doing so I trusted! It was truly a luxury to have someone else wash and take care of my hair after so many months of lock down. I felt safe and like I was treating myself to something truly indulgent! I love how my hair turned out and I can't wait until salon's open back up AGAIN so I can return to see Jen again.

Thanks, Nicole. You saved me in a total pinch and fixed the color beautifully!…read more Next time I am in town, I hopefully am just stopping by the salon to say HELLO.
