I love this place. I have been coming here for years, since 2001...I think. This would be back when it was more tiki retro looking salon. Fast forward to the present and it has really come into its own, hip and sleek with great hair stylists. Everyone in there is nice and great! I have had facials - fantastic by the way - the facials are so relaxing I fall asleep. Waxing - Grace or Heather are fantastic. Kim do my hair for my wedding and she had other stylists in the salon to do my other attendants hair and it all turned out wonderful. As for haircuts, I would let anyone of the stylists cut my hair and they all do great color. I would highly recommend this place and I have tried alot of the higher end salons to do cut and color in downtown, union square, etc., etc and the WAK Shak is the best in town. read more

I'd been getting my hair cut the same way for the last 5 years before I showed up here. Then I met Sara. This woman has vision! Every time I come in she has a new idea she wants to try, and every time my hair ends up looking awesome! I can't recommend her enough. Sara takes her time to get the cut just right. I'm a guy with somewhat short (under 5 inches long) and curly hair, and the haircut generally takes an hour. She's a good conversationalist, and the end result is amazing, so don't let the time the cut takes dissuade you from coming here! Cost is on-par with a high-end salon, and runs me $55 post-tax/pre-tip. Some other good bonuses: the customer service here is great. I'm always offered water and/or tea when I walk in the door, and my jacket is put in the closet for me. Wak Shack will confirm appointments made long in advance by email (so you don't forget!), and if you don't respond they will call the day or so before the appointment. You can even book an appointment on their website if you are in a pinch. Great results, service, and tech friendly? What is there not to like? read more

I completely adore Filomena. I first visited Wak Shack 7 years ago to get my hair done for a modeling shoot. Filomena had just started working there and coincidentally enough knew a friend of mine from her previous salon. She then proceeded to take my multicolored mess of hair and magically turn it into a gorgeous dark brown & mahogany. I was smitten instantly. Since then, I've gone to 'Mena for the best textured cuts, French girl bobs, and excellent highlights. My hair is a challenge due to having thick, wavy Filipina hair plus I'm low maintenance, but she has always given me the perfect cut and color for my style. She's sweet, easy to talk to, and so helpful. She even gave me advice on how to set my hair for my wedding last year, since I was getting married out of town. I was thrilled when I found out she bought Wak Shack, and I hope to visit her soon at B Parlor even though I'm in the East Bay now. read more

FILOMENA is THE BOMB. I have curly hair, which seems to be a curse, and can never find the right stylist for the right cut. I've been all over the city searching, and came to Filomena after I saw my boyfriend's hair (awesome cut!) and this girl gave me the most meticulous, perfect cut I've ever had. She is very knowledgable about curly hair, and explained that dry cuts are the best (since some strands curl more than others, its better to see how the curls will turn out). I can't recommend this girl enough!!!!!!!! read more

As a man who is embarrassingly concerned with his hair...I have always approached the task of finding a new stylist with the diligence and caution normally reserved for much more important tasks, such as the study of wild Great White sharks. After asking around and spending serious time on Yelp, I decided to try Filomena at Wak Shack. I could not have been happier with the results. Filomena took the time to talk with me and to understand my neurotic ramblings. From which, she was able to pull off a cut better than I could have anticipated. Overall, the salon was great too. A very cool place and a true stand out in the salon-district that is the lower-Haight. read more

WAK SHACK I LOOOVE YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU ARE!!!! Michael is my hair GOD! and besides him being very handsome, he can work a razor and a pair of scissors! I've only seen him twice, because I use to see Anthony(Rest in Peace).... But, man he got skills! All the hairdressers at the wak shack are awesome and they all have their own style... I mos def recommend the Wak Shack, they might seem pricey but trust they're worth the money! read more

This review is a YEAR OVERDUE! But Janine totally deserves it!! I moved to SF from Fresno, where I had been going to the same stylists for 11 years. I'm SOOO anal about my hair and also, it can be a bit difficult to work with when it comes to getting a new cut or styling it. So,I warned Janine and she was SUPER understanding of me being nervous. But she was phenomenal! She made sure she understood my hair texture, pattern, my style, and everything else! My cut was awesome! I'll be back to her when I move back to SF in a couple months. :) read more

B Parlor - My hair right after a cut by Janine and then it grown out perfectly in two weeks. Loved it! :) - Hair Salons Near Me - San Francisco, California

This review is WAY overdue. I have been going to Filomena for a few years now and she is The Best. Whenever people ask me where to go, I feel like I can't find the words to explain how happy I am with my stylist. Color? Awesome. Cut? Amazing. Styling? Fantastic. She always listens and is extremely knowledgeable. (I tend to ask a lot of questions about product and styling techniques) She handles my many color changes with ease and had no problem with my confused sometimes curly/sometimes straight hair. No matter the wait, she is the only stylist I'll go to- because it's always worth it. Filomena will be at the top of my list of things I miss most about San Francisco when it's time to depart. And lastly, three things I love about Wak Shack itself: 1. The space. 2. The FULL line of B&B products. (this is uncommon) 3. The super easy online booking. read more

When Michael told me about the Keratin hair treatment, I thought to myself no, that won't work on My hair. My hair is Bleached and colored, and super thick and kinky curly frizzy. I'm so happy to be wrong!!! I went ahead and had it done. It is pricey and it took most of my afternoon(my hair is long) but it's worth every minute and dollar. It's amazing. My hair is straight. I've lived my whole life wondering what it would be like to have straight manageable hair. It feels super soft and I can brush it often without cringing. My stylist Michael Minucci took great care in the whole process. He was just as excited to see the effect as I was! Even though this process is expensive, I'm going to work it in to my budget. I recommend the Wak Shack 100% The Staff and the ambiance make this place great. read more

People who know me know I've got a head shaped like a square egg. I love you Filomena! For the first time, I finally find someone who can create the illusion of normality to my noggin. She listened to my insecurities and with her creative vision, gave me a cut that I actually loved at the first turn of the chair. Thankyouthankyouthankyou! And thank you Z, my friend, for the recommendation. I'm now ready to face the world! read more

My regular stylist moved to this shop from one down the road- and I dig the new digs. With the 50's retro styling to the good tunes and seriously busy atmosphere, it's easy to lose yourself in the whole 'salon day' experience. For my stylist? Anthony is the BEST - always get star treatment when I see him! And the hair ain't half bad, either! read more

Emily was very nice and really tried with my super super thick hair, but I'm still trying to grow out the thick halfa bangs six months later. I had a keratin treatment and despite telling the receptionist when I booked it that my hair was about five times thicker than the thickest hair they've ever seen, she booked me on a day with just one stylist. So I was there for six plus hours. Emily was great though and didn't make me feel bad for the extra work. I'm sure if I gave Wak a second go, I'd have better luck...but, I've turned back to my go-to woman back in Petaluma. read more

Hey, Simon gave me a great haircut, well worth the $60. But I will say I can't convince myself *every* time that I should get my hair cut for $60 here when I can get it cut for 1/3 of that pretty easily. In the end, peace of mind and the chance to look at *lots* of cute salon-girls is worth a little more sometimes... read more

I went to Kim for a Coppola Keratin hair treatment to smooth out my very curly hair. I had previously had the japanese straightener on my hair and had about 7 months of growth. I was a little nervous about using new product over another but I was amazed at how the keratin smoothing treatment actually improved the look and feel of my previously straightened hair. The entire process took about 2.5 hours. The actual treatment smelled like coconuts which was really nice as I smelled it for the rest of the day. After the process was complete I was seriously amazed at the condition of my hair. The cost of $350 was totally worth it. Especially now that I will have more flexibility with my hair because it can be color treated and styled in more ways than the Japanese straightening. I waited to write this review so i could see how well it held up after being professionally styled. Even after two washes, my hair is still soft and no frizz!!! Unlike the japanese treatment the Coppola treatment washes out so no long term commitment to bone straight hair. It lasts about three months. I was extremely pleased with Kim's work and as a long time customer of the salon, I cannot give a higher recommendation. I mean, I live in Orange County and I still fly to SF to get my hair done there because I have never been pleased with any place else like i have the Wak Shack Salon. read more

Claudia was the Hair Angel that my Makeover Goddess sent down to me during a semi-crisis. And when I say crisis, I don't mean the "oops, I dyed my hair orange from a box of cheap bleach I got at the gas station" crisis. I'm talking about the sort of crisis that comes from making your first terrifyingly liberating career move while crossing your dainty lil' fingers in hopes that this major decision will NOT come back to bite you in the ass. This type of crisis called for a change, and nothing short of something fierce was gonna make me happy! Not only was it necessary to show off my newfound 'I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR' liberation but it felt essential to match my vibe to my look. Like, ASAP. So, just like any rational female, I decided to totally change my hair. :P Enter Claudia: I came to the Wak Shack Salon with a slight fever, a little case of the PMS, and a definitely vulnerable ego. Call me crazy, but when I set my mind to do something then it's just going to happen, fever or not. Through my consultation with Claudia, it was clear she knew exactly what she was talking about and even took the time to explain to me what we would be doing step by step. It sounds simple, but having that sort of communication in the hair styling business is something that many stylists leave out which can, unfortunately, cause room for miscommunication. Not so at the Wak Shack Salon. After the consultation, we both knew it was going to be time consuming and tedious work but we both geared up for the arduous process (arduous mostly on her part because, obviously, I just sat there and drank diet coke) and chit-chatted. Claudia somehow managed to wave her little Hair Angel wand over my dated Betty Boop black 'do and created THE look I had asked and hoped for all while wearing a smile. And I cannot gush enough how much I love the fire-pink ombré and new layers she gave me and how many compliments I've received thus. To say the least, I'm effin stoked. Thank you to Claudia and the Wak Shack Salon staff for being such an awesome team! Oh, and the scary career move that sent me into semi-crisis? Totally paid off. :) read more

I recently visited Wak Shack for the first time and had a great experience. The staff was super friendly and attentive. They served me some tea as soon as I came in and I didn't have to wait long for my stylist. I booked an appointment with a junior stylist, Sarah, and she did a great job. She was very professional, asked a lot of questions, and made sure that I was comfortable with everything she was doing (e.g. razor cutting, etc.) She also very patiently spent a lot of time on my hair. The salon itself is in a really big, airy loft space. It has a super cute, rockabilly vibe to it and the facility is very clean. They mainly use Bumble & Bumble products here, which are a bit pricey, but they don't force products down your throat here. I am really happy with my haircut and the great service I got here - I will definitely be back! read more

I've been coming here for at least 10 years (with both the prior and new owner) and figure it's about time I write a review. The short version: you can't lose if you treat yourself to the service here, no matter who your stylist is or what service you're getting. While it's more expensive than a Super Cuts butchering, you'll still be happy with the way you look weeks later, which NEVER happened even a day later when I used to get my hair cut elsewhere. Because people occasionally get married or move away, I've had three stylists since my first visit. I didn't panic at each stylist change because I've watched all the newly-hired stylists go through at least a year's advanced training to bring them up to Kim & Philomena's higher-than-elsewhere standards no matter what the new stylist thought they learned in cosmetology school or where else they previously worked. (This is really cool because I consider hair-cutting skills to be incomprehensible and therefore, possibly witchcraft.) The first person you see when you walk in the door is not only pleasant and professional, but will be charming and fun, too. Ditto whomever offers to get you something to drink or takes your coat. And after starting your visit with that level of service, whether you're getting "a little of the top" or some sort of intense color treatment, your stylist is the cherry on top. Even in SF, this place stands out for its diversity among stylists, so there's someone enough like you to make you feel at home here. Apparently taking Sesame Street to heart, "ALL of These Things are Not Like the Others" at WAK Shack / B Parlor. It doesn't matter if you're an upmarket slave to the finer or trendier things in life or a pierced and/or tattooed type who thrives on thrift store eclectica, someone from most demographics works here. And all of them are professionals who'll make you feel welcome and you'll like them. I have good reason to be positively prejudiced toward these people and this business' track record...and you will be, too. read more

I have been seeing Anthony for almost two years now and I absolutely love him! We gossip and chat while he dyes, cuts and straightens my hair. He is a great listener and always gives me the cut I ask for. I was once unhappy about the color I decided to dye my hair and Anthony made room for me the next day to come in and get it fixed. He will always go out of his way to make his clients happy! Today I tried the Coppola Keratin hair straightening process (not sure that is exactly what it's called) at Wak Shack with Anthony. This new straightening process doesn't damage the hair and has no formaldehyde (aka - no cancer causing carcinogens). Yeah! I have curly hair, but love wearing it straight (and hate straightening it every day). My hair looks amazing right now and it is REALLY straight and shiny. Even more so than using a flat iron every morning. It's great. I will definitely be going back in a couple months to get it done again (it's supposed to last up to 3 months). I highly recommend it to anyone who wants straight, healthy looking hair. Just be prepared to sit around for two to three hours. Beauty like this takes time. read more

This review is less about the result of my appointment and purely customer experience / how I felt walking out of the salon. I came in for a toner appointment and made sure to *specifically* confirm the price in advance ($40), since the previous time I came there was an extra treatment added in without my knowledge. Great. I was pleased with the result of the treatment and stylist's work, however upon finishing and checking out at the front desk, I was given a $105 charge. Well, I thought to myself.. "ok, I had the blowout, which I didn't necessarily ask for but was necessary to see the result.. and sure that justifies a bit extra..." a $45 surprise blowout + $40 toner also came with an extra $20 surprise extra color fee. I was never prompted or told about this during the procedure, and frankly probably would have been fine with it if I had been properly informed. When the receptionist went back to question my stylist about the extra $20, the stylist didn't even make eye contact with me standing in the front, or bother to come forward. I tipped and walked out the door - feeling quite uncomfortable- but immediately regretted not confronting her about this kind of poor customer service. I had a similar experience the last time I came, where some extra enhancement was added to my treatment without knowledge but came as a surprise at check-out. I'm not sure if these ladies are consciously trying to sneak extra line items in and hope no one notices, or if they are innocent mistakes. Despite this poor experience I'm not dissatisfied with the result of my toner but it certainly leaves a bad taste with me and I'll think again before going back. read more

This place is awesome. Hands down. Everyone is super nice and great. (And not pretentious like many hair places.) I have gotten my hair done by both Kendra, Kat and Simon. (I'm a haircut slut.) They all rock my world. And now there is no where else I would go. I totally recommend it. (And actually do to everyone...) read more

I was happy with the haircut I was given, for about a day. Then I realized that my hair had been wak-ed off much more than I originally stated I wanted and I wasn't given what I thought I'd asked for. (which was the haircut I walked in with, just cleaned up) The atmosphere is cool and edgy- but I don't think I'll be spending another $60 bucks here again. read more

I went for vintage updo and makeup application from Heather. She is super professional and creative. If you have a special occasion coming up and want to have a special look created Heather is your gal. I have also gone to Heather for eyebrow shaping and she does an excellent job at that too. Also, the whole salon has a nice feel to it. Not your typical salon. read more

I tried some places in SF and never left really happy and all places were referred by friends. I decided to explore Yelp and I'm glad I did it. B Parlor has a friendly staff and Sammy is the greatest hair stylist. I didn't know what I wanted, showed her some references and she did her magic. My hair was really frizzy and dry and Sammy did an Olaplex treatment, that helped it a lot, and some subtle highlights that make it look healthier. I found my hair stylist in SF. read more

Five stars for Kendra! I have very thick, medium-long hair, and I've had many crazy, maniacal stylists who have wanted to do what THEY want to do, not what I want to do, to my hair. But Kendra keeps me stylish, listens well, and gives a GREAT cut that I have loved every time. We're working towards something specific as we let my hair grow a little longer, and we both agree on a plan. The price is right, I can actually style my hair the next day to my liking (I'm a little challenged in that department!) and the cuts have grown in really well, too. Kendra is also someone I love talking with through the entire cut, which is always a bonus! I highly recommend her. read more

This is the first time I've had a "regular" hair cutter person (though we could have made beautiful music, Tyler). Anywho, been seeing Kat for quite a few months now, she takes real good care of the mullet. Maybe I'll go for a mulhawk next time. She's fun to talk to and all the people that work there are pretty nice too (I miss being called "honey" by the old receptionist). Also, the place looks great after their remodel. read more

Philomena cuts my air and I love her. She always does a good job and I leave the salon feeling sexy and beautiful. It' definitely worth the money (about $60) for the excellent cut. The Bumble&Bumble products hey sell there also work really well. So far I've been using the gentle shampoo & super rich conditioner, and style with brilliantine and the surf spray. My husband uses the sumotech wax. Also, the first time there I was a walk in, so they do take walk-ins but only when they have stylists available. read more

I had the biggest hair mishap before I met Filomena. I'm talking I was embarrassed to leave my house. I felt like I had bad hair karma for ever making fun of someone's dye job. Pre Wak Shack: I had black/brown hair and thought I should lighten up for summer... So I asked my guy for j-lo brown (even brought in a picture!).......instead I left with Lindsay Lohan red which cost me $300. UGH I was hating my life until my friend recommended Filomena. I got there and told her what had happened and showed her a picture of my post Lindsay hair and the color I was looking for. Hours later and now my hair looks AMAZING. Filomena is so sweet and I didn't feel like I spent the afternoon in a salon. Oh and the receptionist went and got me lunch! Hands down best experience ever. read more

First timer! My roommate recommended this spot since it's close to our house AND she had an amazing color experience with Janine. Both of us are hooked on B Parlor now! But I only went for a cut because my split-end game was horrific- and Claudia was there to my rescue! All I got was my dead ends off and some very light layering to liven up my fine straight heavy hair and it's really such a huge difference! Simple but exactly what I needed at the time. Claudia really took the time to make my experience fun and relaxing, PLUS she gave me this incredible 15-20 minute head massage during my shampoo. At least it felt that long; it nearly sent me into a trance! ;) I'll definitely be back- Claudia is awesome and so sweet! read more

Great quality products! Best curl products I have ever used in my life. Also Claudia is an amazing stylist and their Jr Stylist Amanda is highly skilled and a great affordable option for color. If you're unsure of how to book your color online, you can text their main number, just hang tight til their AI alerts them. It responds automatically responds to your text and gets confused so just wait for a receptionist to respond after. I really adore the owner of this shop also. read more

I love the Wak Shack. I have been going there for years now and I will always come back for Grace! She is thee best and sweetest!! She is very attentive and makes it perfect! Love these ladies!!! read more

Ive been going to B-parlor for 5 years... Mikey is my guy! I have gone from electric purple and black, to "chocolate rainbow brown", BLACK to Blonde... Poor Mikey never knows what I am going to ask for next!! I have super stubborn long straight Egyptian hair. It can certainly take a beating, but my hair is stubborn when it comes to pulling color out. Mikey has wanted to turn me blonde for 5 years and a few months ago I finally caved. While keeping the health of my hair in mind, he has successfully taken me from a permanent JET BLACK Rocker chick, to a beach bum sand blonde! Every time I book an appointment with B parlor I know I can look forward to over the moon service, awesome conversation, and a killer haircut/color. They use top of the line products and don't over sell you on anything...which always makes me WANT to buy my hair products there. I should mention, I'm a Virgo and nothing is EVER good enough, but Mikey and the staff are super patient with me, and always make it work! Seriously... just go there. read more

I just had a haircut with Emily and it was wonderful! Everyone is so welcoming and kind. Emily really took the time to understand exactly what I wanted. Filomena is a hair genius. Two friends recommended her and I have been going now for the past year for haircuts. I typically don't have a vision for what I want so always ask for her opinion on what will be complementary. She'll work with different style samples and is able to execute without a problem. This last cut is my favorite so far...short and sassy. You do have to book far in advance or have flexibility to come at random times, but it's worth it! read more

Kat rocks! I'm moving out to Berlin in a couple of weeks, so I felt it was the right time to chop off all the hair I've been growing for the last two years. Kat is one of the newer stylists but just from talking to her beforehand, I knew I could trust her with my hair (and she's so sweet!). She has been very well trained, has a great sense of style, and a meticulous eye for detail. It took her longer than if I had gone with one of the more established stylists, but it was definitely worth it! I had brought in pictures and between those and our discussion I got exactly the cut I was looking for- short, hip, and easy to take care of. She's building up her client base now, so get in there soon cuz she will take good care of you! read more

Just went on a recommendation from a friend. Heather was referred, but she was out this week. I needed to get in quickly so I set an appointment with Sarah. I am 100% happy. Most importantly, she listened to what I wanted, and had some great ideas and suggestions on what was possible. I mistakenly showed up an hour early, and she accommodated me and saw me early. I have wavy hair, and I really feel that a stylist spending time on the cut is important. She was thorough, and did an EXCELLENT cut. I didn't feel rushed at all. In one cut I've found my new SF salon. read more

many of us have been in this situation: you find a hair stylist who just gets you and your hair. you develop a relationship with this person, life could not be better. then some unforseen event happens (they move, you move, something moves) and you are forced to take on the daunting task of finding someone new. well, this was me about a week ago. and, thanks to the power of yelp, i decided to call wak shak. i explained my hair to the receptionist and she recommended kendra. all i can say is THANK YOU receptionist, thank you kendra for such a cute cut, thank you thank you thank you. this place rocks. my fears have been eased. kendra was so personable and really got what i was thinking in regards to my hair. the space is rad too - airy and open with a semi-exposed-wall look to it. five shiny stars. read more
