I don't know how the system works as some of the stock they have was in Argos six or seven years ago (where has it been in the meantime?) but it's well worth a look. The items are good quality and have been well stored, but the shop can be very difficult to get around. There is just a massive amount of stock there, and it is often not clearly marked (plain brown boxes etc). So you may have to do some digging around, and keep your eyes peeled. You could miss some great stuff! I think the place could do with its own catalogue, but that's probably not viable considering they likely get daily deliveries of random old Argos stock. So heartily recommended, but you have to go in with either a great amount of luck or a lot of time to really get the most out of it.

You can find several trendy pieces in here which is great for an independent outlet with a mixed price range. Friends or relatives can lounge in the large comfy sofa's whilst they wait., or just admire the store & furniture. I'd recommend The Candy Store to anyone visiting Birmingham. Spend some time in here and you will find something that catches your eye. The staff are very helpful, and also told me about the tailoring on some of the t-shirts I was admiring. Worth a visit!!

Established in 2007 The Candy Store has been a beacon in independent street brands, stocking items that might not appear on any other high street rail. Though it can sometimes be hard to tell the staff apart from the people hanging in the store, everyone has been friendly and happy to help whenever I have been in. The inside of the shop is nothing fancy time looks as though it has stood still here for a long time. However, the shop is packed with nearly every conceivable household item you could imagine (excluding furniture and appliances). If you are familiar with Latif and Sons in Birmingham City Centre, think of this shop of a condensed version of the same type of store. Another way of describing it is as 'Northfield's General Store' - everything from kitchenware, cleaning products, garden, diy, computer and automotive accessories are in stock at very reasonable prices. I managed to buy a bunch of last minute Christmas presents here this last year and I had never thought a shop on Northfield could offer such choice, quality and value. The couple who run the shop are lovely too; very friendly. Also, If there is something you are after and they don't stock it, they are happy to source it for you. Often I have bought items from larger stores and supermarkets only to find the same products sold here at a cheaper price. I now usually pop in and check here first if I am after something in particular before shopping around It saves the disappointment! I've picked up many bargain essentials in here such as toiletries and household stuff but also, perhaps surprisingly, some more obscure items. This Poundland is my first port of call when wanting some trashy dressing up stuff/party supplies. From disco balls to garter belts, feather boas to ratchet make up i will definitely lose, there is tonnes! I have got camping supplies and all sorts of other stuff I didn't even know I needed. Even if I usually pop in to just get a naff umbrella, I will leave with a couple of wigs. It gets busy in here but with two ends of the shop for tills and fast yet impersonal service (what do you expect!) you can be in and out in no time. There is one just over the road but this one has more choice!

Ok so that might not be true. But with recent facts about Birmingham being confused by Fox News. The bullring opened in September 2003 (I know I was working there!) It's mainly a high street fashion shopping destination but there are lots of little food units to explore round the three floors. Built into what was a sloping hill each of the floors have street level exits which can cause lots of confusion on your first visit. But fear not. There are touch screen maps around the centre to help you explore. It's huge glass roofs help natural light flow through each of the floors and you can walk from here to Birmingham New Street Station without going outside if you follow the walkways. Mornings are usually quieter than the rest of the day so if you are in a rush get there for 10am on a week day!

Don't get me wrong, the place in comparison to other shopping centres is almost beautiful, big open skylight, actually quite clean and toilets on almost every level. But half the time the escalators are broken, the last one being a total of nearly 4 months (and having to fight through H&M if you wanted to go down to the ground level). The elevators are ridiculously slow, and usually monopolized by the owners of tiny humans in prams... which is fair enough as they would struggle with the stairs. The morale of this story is - take the stairs. Other than that gripe its generally not a bad place, just really busy. You can cut through the bullring to quickly get to any other part of town and because the whole building is sheltered its convenient for shopping in the bad weather.
