The staff are both helpful and knowledgeable too, which is refreshing. The other end of the store is predominated by lighting, bathroom goods and bedding. A small range of Hotel Chocolat products, toys, gifts and cards, finish off what is an impressive store. The on site cafe is light and airy, with modern furniture - barstools and more conventional tables. The range of drinks is impressive, but the food choice is a little limited, just pastries, cakes, salads and sandwiches, perfect for a snack though. The coffee is strong and flavoursome, but the prices in the cafe are a little on the expensive side. John Lewis is known for its excellent quality of products, but deserves to be equally known for the excellence of its staff. We have used JL at Tamworth, Milton Keynes and Touchwood, and they are all a credit to JL. Highly recommend the branch at Tamworth where, if they haven't got it in stock, they will do everything they can to get it for you as soon as possible. Their advice is so helpful too. John Lewis deserve their reputation, and the staff at this branch, as elsewhere, actually do care about making sure the customer is satisfied.

As for the stock, the second-hand tomes on sale, cover every conceivable interest or hobby, and the books are handily catalogued so you can find your way around the warrens with relative ease. Despite its bookish diversity, this place specialises in maps, plans and atlases, which seems slightly surprising given the shop's introspective atmosphere, which can sometime go hand in hand with village life. The range of maps is truly impressive though and well worth a visit if you're off on your travels or want to frame a favourite part of the world to brighten up your walls.

The magazine selection is probably the most comprehensive I have ever seen, if you can't find it here, then you probably wont find it anywhere! As there are only really two shopping centres in Tamworth you really have little choice but to…read morepatronise this place anyway.....or get into Birmingham which is not always practical. The building architecturally is very 70s - it is ugly really, which when you think that is stuck right next to the Castle and many other historical buildings is not so good. Its small for a shopping centre and I feel has really gone down hill in the last few years. It seems to have been taken over by card shops - I counted 5 I think on last visit, and mobile phone shops. There are 3 empty units - ridiculous!! ... and really the only brands worth mentioning are New Look, MK1, and The Early Learning Centre - oh and of course HMV. Add to that the fact that they have now decided to put these weird barrow stall things down the centre it really does seem to become less classy by the year. Most of these stalls are selling the kind of cheap tat you can get outside on the market for half the price so are pointless anyway. The only redeeming features really are that the loos are excellent - call me weird but very clean and spacious and very good baby friendly feautures if you need 'em. Also there are two decent places to eat with generous seating areas, BBs cafe being one of them and Drucker's the other. Only go here if you have no option really - much more choice on the out of town retail complex 'Ventura', which is part of the reason I believe that 'Ankerside' is failing so. All the decent shops have migrated to the newer site. A spot of cash injection please Tamworth Council!!?

These wonderful ladies run the best tailors shop in the West Midlands. If you are looking for an…read moreexcellent tailor/seamstress, it's well worth the trip if you're in Birmingham. I'll lay you a wager that you can't find a service as impeccable with prices as reasonable as Zip & Tuck. We first came across them when my 6'5" tall, lanky husband (sorry baby!) bought a namebrand suit on the cheap, and needed it altered to fit his svelte frame. There was a complex bit of stitching at the back, so I wasn't able to use my trusty thimble on it with aplomb. We brought it into Zip & Tuck, and hey presto! 3 days later and £15 later, they'd not only taken in the back seamlessly (ha!), they'd lengthened the arms and trousers. He tried it on, and it looked like it had been individually tailored. Our second experience was with the fine ladies (who are trained in Costume Design and Fine Tailoring) saving our wedding day. And this is all true. I had bought a couture wedding dress from an American designer. It was made to fit my figure perfectly, snug, but not too snug -- just right. I hadn't tried the dress on in about a month, since my last fitting, when, a few days before the wedding, I tried it on to show some friends. The dress was huge at the waist, and the consequent gapping there was causing the thin straps to pull down against my shoulder blades, rubbing them raw and creating angry looking red skin (non tres sexy). I had, apparently, lost some weight in the run up to the wedding, making my fits-like-a-glove dress into a bride's nightmare. In a blind panic I wailed at my then-fiance to help, sew it with his teeth if necessary. He rushed the dress over to Zip & Tuck with literally a day and a half to spare. We brought the dress in at noon, and by 5pm, with a rush job done perfectly, the dress was done. They had even altered the straps slightly, which I hadn't asked them to do, and helped the dress fit even better. End result was a happy bride, and thus, a happy groom (shrieking bride = deaf groom). If you've been putting off an alteration or button catastrophe, stop by Zip & Tuck. The competent job will make you feel like a gazillion bucks.
