I love any place that serves sweet plantains. Fry bread tacos were good. First time I've preferred chicken over any other meat, though the pulled pork did taste good. Look forward to snacking on the little churros later.

It was ok. I ordered a loaded steak burrito. There was hardly any steak in it. It was mostly rice. Not worth the price.

We had seen the place on Yelp and planned to grab something quick to go, but it turned into a great stop. The location is fantastic and convenient near the airport. The hostess was welcoming right away and directed us to the bar so we could place a quick to-go order. At the bar, the bartender gave excellent service and convinced us to try a couple of tacos along with the yuca fries and plantains we originally planned to order--and I'm glad he did. The Tacos Al Carbón were outstanding: grilled fajita beef with sautéed poblano and onion on flour tortillas topped with pico de gallo and guacamole. The steak was tender and full of flavor. The beans and rice were just right, and the plantains with coconut sauce were a perfect addition. The bartender also recommended a Stone Delicious IPA, which made the short wait enjoyable. We grabbed a Tamarindo agua fresca and bolitas de yuca for the road--light, flavorful, and perfect for the drive. Great food, great service, and a great find near the airport. Definitely worth stopping in.

We tried a Tamarindo fresh water - it was really but costly $7. Then, the Chicken Pozole Verde was delicious - amazing flavors, I almost cry... Oliver's tostada was very good too, the mix of flavor with Guajillo salsa was perfect. As dessert, I had a fried sweet plantains with special sweet cream I will definitely return

A Home-Cooked Feel with a Few Rough Edges…read more My first visit to Dona Maria started on a positive note with a warm, friendly greeting that made me feel welcome right away. I ordered the Calisticas with chicken and the Pernil (braised pork). The crispy plantains were one of the highlights of the meal, providing a nice texture and crunch. The pork was tender and juicy, although I unexpectedly encountered a large bone joint in one portion. The chicken cups were less successful. They were noticeably oily and lacked the juicy, flavorful bite I was expecting. The standout flavor of the meal was actually the chimichurri sauce. It added brightness and depth, and I found myself pouring it over nearly everything on the plate. Overall, the experience felt very much like eating at a friend's home--comforting, unpretentious, and made with care. That home-style atmosphere extended to the food preparation as well, which appeared informal (I did see prep without gloves) and may not appeal to guests who expect a more polished restaurant experience. While there were some enjoyable elements, particularly the hospitality, plantains, pork, and chimichurri, the execution of several dishes was inconsistent. A decent meal with a welcoming spirit, but not one that fully lived up to its potential.

I am in Dallas for work this week and I met up with a friend here tonight for dinner. I scoped out…read morethe menu on Yelp ahead of time and I knew I wanted some variety of steak dish. My friend suggested splitting a dish or two so we split the pupusas - there is an El Salvadoran restaurant I used to live by that does great pupusas so I was curious to compare. These were very good, and for $14, they could certainly be a meal. My friend got the tropical salad with shrimp and I got the Carne Asada. The chimichurri sauce was delicious and so was the steak. I'm not a huge fan of beans so I didn't eat those. Even though I did like the pupusas, I would say the steak was the star of the meal for me. For dessert, I ordered the Quatro Leches cake because I'm a huge fan of Tres Leches. This was good, but too sweet, my friend pointed out that there was some sort of frosting or something on top - maybe the fourth leche? - which made it sweeter. There were also pecans on top, which was interesting. I'm not sure I would order this dessert again here. I also got some sort of tropical drink, which was really good and my friend got the house Mojito, which at $12 is nicely priced I feel like. Overall, this place was pretty good and I would come back here, my friend did mention it's a chain, but I think it only has a few locations, including Dallas. Be aware that the entrance is on the opposite side of the road, and they also have a pretty nice patio, which is where we sat for dinner - a treat for me to dine outside in 65° weather in February, since I live in Michigan!

There's a nearby parking garage, which makes it very convenient. I had no problem grabbing a seat at the bar and ordered the nachos and a sangria. The sangria was well balanced--not overly strong like some of their other drinks, but not too sweet either, which I really appreciated. The nachos were a solid choice as always and didn't disappoint this time around. Service was great throughout the visit, making it an overall dependable and enjoyable spot.

The lady was really nice and pleasant and helped a couple gringos order dinner. :) Tried their street tacos and had a barbacoa, pastor, and carnitas. It came with rice and beans. May have been an off night. But I can't say that anything was awesome or would I would consider GOOD. It was just kinda meh. The barbacoa had a lot of grease, which I would expect to be very flavorful. It was somewhat bland. The pastor was really dry and probably my least favorite. It may have just been in the warmer all day or something. The carnitas wasn't bad. It was tender and the best flavor. Their salas were good. The green didn't have any heat to it and had a pleasant taste. The red one had a nice flavor but made me sweat a bit. The rice was light, fluffy and tasted food. The beans were beans... not a ton of flavor could've used some salt. Decent dining experience. It's in an older gas station. Not the cleanest place (not the taqueria's fault), but it wasn't nasty. Won't swear this place off, but not in a rush to go back. Service was fast and friendly. May have been an off night for them. There are worse places to eat.... We supported a small business, if nothing else. :)
