The first thing that tipped me off was that it was 7:00 pm and the place was empty. But thought I'd give it a try based on the reviews. Food was absolutely one of the worst Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. Ordered the Corta Azteca. Steak was dry and tough and lacked any flavor whatsoever. I was in the area yesterday, and decided to find a place for a late lunch... and found Azteca on Yelp. Walking into the space, i noticed the long walkway to the end of the restaurant, and then the seating area. the place was empty, to i had my pick of tables. I sat close to the back (Only had 45 mins for lunch, and to get to my meeting), and was immediately brought some chips and salsa. I ordered the chicken burrito, with grilled chicken.. and asked them to add some jalapeños to it. The server asked if i wanted it a little hot, or spicy... i knew this place would be great once they asked that! Salsa was ok... not enough flavor for me. Once i ordered, i asked for some hot sauce. they brought out a house made hot sauce. The mix of that, and the salsa was really good. A few mins later my burrito came out... and it was massive! it was served on a traditional Mexican plate, along with some taco sauce, sour cream, salad, rice and beans. I had the rice and beans 1st, and they were really good. then some salad, which was fresh... and then cut into the burrito. It too was really fresh, and i was expecting the typical pickled jalapeños. To my surprise, it was a grilled jalapeño, cut into pieces, and mixed into the burrito. It had the perfect kick... and the grilled chicken was perfect. I ate about half the plate, and packed the rest... which was enough food for dinner. Whilst eating, i noticed the large mural on the wall, which was really nice. Also, the table cloths are typical mexican colors and material, and added a nice tough to the restaurant. Service was also very friendly, and fast. Prompted by a deal on Amazon Local, my wife and I decided to give Azteca a try. The only major hurdle was finding the place! It's set back from Rt 9 and is quite easy to miss. Once found though, there's plenty of free parking and it's not hard to get on and off the main road. Decor: The decor is basic, but cheerful. Warm, primary colors and a collection of "Spanish/Mexican" type nicknacks and wall hangings. The night we were there (Friday), there was a man softly playing a guitar and singing Spanish songs. Nicely done, not overwhelming volume. Physically, the restaurant is clean and welcoming. No unbussed tables, no sticky menus, everything on the front of the house appeared in order. Service: We were greeted and seated promptly, given the obligatory bowl of chips and salsa and asked about drinks by a friendly, young man. The waiter came back after a reasonable length of time and took our orders. I ordered the house burrito plate and my wife, the mixed fajitas. Food: My burrito was enormous. Easily enough for two or three. The wrapper was tender on the inside and seared on the outside, with just enough firmness to indicate freshness. Filling was a generous mixture of seasoned, ground beef, beans, and rice. It was plated on a mild red sauce and then drizzled with what appeared to be melted cheese. On the side was yellow rice, refried beans, and a chopped salad. Rice was OK, but nothing special. The beans were nicely cooked, but lacked a distinct flavor. Salad was fresh and cool. Overall, huge helpings, nice presentation, but could have used a little more seasoning. That's a personal thing though, so I don't fault them for the mildness--this is NJ, after all. My wife's fajitas were similarly generous in portion and brought out sizzling like they were still on the grill. The meat and sea food were well cooked, but not over done and all ingredients were appropriately tender. A bit too much salt for my taste, but not an inordinate amount. Side dishes were the same as mine and my comments above apply. Overall, huge helpings, good presentation, and good taste and texture. The one disappointment was the free chips and salsa. I know, it's hard to complain about free, but honestly, I'd rather not be presented with them, if they aren't up to the standards of the rest of the meal. They were unsalted and looked like someone opened a bag from Costco and dumped them in a bowl. The sauce had no heat at all and the only flavor was strong, overwhelming, onion. On the whole, I like this place very much and intend to return soon! read more

The food was fresh as many have said. I ordered the steak chimichanga. Very tasty and freshly made with a side of rice, sour cream, refried beans which I thought could of had a bit more flavor. The home made Pico de guyo was definately fresh. Very nice presentation. My husband ordered the Corte Azteca, he said the flavor was bland on the steak and the pork was over seasoned. The beans tasted like out of the can, definately needs work. For the steak, I'd suggest to make it almost like an encembollado with onions & Cilantro to give it flavor. And or even season it with Goya Adobe. Other than that food was pretty decent.. read more

First time I tried this restaurant it was very good.. since then they can't seem to get anything right. If you ask for "no" peppers, you will get extra peppers.. if you request rice you will get beans. It's unreal this has been the case the last 3 times!! Not to mention the food is cold when you arrive early.. I'll be ordering from other places moving forward. Which is sad because I chose to continue to support my local restaurants during this difficult time. But I've given enough chances. Adios! read more

went for a nice quiet dinner, first time out since COVID. We picked this place as they only have around 4 tables outside and you can bring your own alcohol. We ordered 2 entrees, the first was not on the menu, chicken fajitas in a half of a pineapple, this was very good, however extremely expensive (for this place). The second entree was a pick three different mexican items, we got a cile renos (Very gooey, not very good) the 2nd item was a chimichanga (so under cooked, it was almost raw), when I pointed this out to the cook, she said Oh you want it well done/crispy, my reply was just cooked (even cooked very small and bad) the last item of the 3, was a chicken enchilada, I have never seen anything like this, they served me boiled chicken (approx 1/10 lb) in the middle of an uncooked small tortia and said that was the enchilada. Save the money and go to a Juanitos, more costly but real good food, this place was a more expensive taco bill, were you had to leave a tip after getting the runs. read more

I never thought to stop here for Mexican, except a friend of mine recommended it and instead of my usual go-to (Fins or Tacoholics), I gave it a try. AND IT WAS FABULOUS. I ordered my friend's favorite...the Burrito Azteca, which has steak, chicken and shrimp in it. The portion was enormous and it was delicious. Very good food: fresh ingredients, well-prepared, very well-seasoned. The portions are for two people or two meals easily, and take-out packaging is so lovingly done in big aluminum containers. They are in our regular take-out rotation. Friendly as heck, as well. Let's one substitute sides or stuffing for tacos, etc. in combos too. We did not realize they bake cakes to order too. This is as authentic as you'll find in NJ and for sure, Brick. Second time here and the food and service are excellent. Huge portions so come hungry or be prepared to have leftovers for lunch. Wonderful atmosphere with friendly staff and a man in the corner who plays the guitar, sings, and is GOOD! My toddler loved dancing on her impromptu dance floor... Chile en mole was great; the mole was rich, spicy, and a little sweet. The taco salads were pretty standard, but packed with chicken and overall yummy. The chilequiles with green sauce was yummy - tart from the tomatillos helps to cut through some of the rich flavors - but I would've liked more spice and the carne asada was a bit tough. Tamales were bland. Could be great if they fixed-up some of the dishes and would do well if it wasn't in a strip mall. Could also benefit from a liquor license so you could order the obligatory margarita, but they will mix your margaritas or sangria if you bring the booze. If you don't bring alcohol, try the horchata! read more

The food is good, but kinda bland. The service is ok, the designs are pleasant. Not many people go here to eat though. The bathroom is ok. But the mirror is a little too high. I can only see my face.
