We just had the team from Aztec come out to fix our brick driveway which was suffering from years of neglect and they did a great job. They powerwashed out all of the weeds and grass, fixed several portions of the walkway, resanded and then put on a sealer. Total professionals who do an amazing job. You should educate yourself on brick types and manufacturers, excavation depth, compaction psi, base materials, torpedo & polymeric sand, etc. like I did. Then interview about 10 companies....or you could just skip right to the end decision from all my work and hire Edgar from Aztec. You won't find a more knowledgeable or more responsive individual out there. He built my driveway last summer & it's beautiful. The work is also guaranteed. 100% recommend Edgar and team! I've never had to contract this type of work out but I do have a basic understanding of patio / brick work in general. I had initially contracted with my landscaper for the project, which they no doubt would subcontract out, and I was stunned by the price (very high). I then took to Yelp to find a reputable company who could do the work. Of the people I contacted, Edgar was the only one who was prompt to return my email and get to my property as soon as he could. Not only was his quote an actual $2K less than the landscaper *for the exact same materials and project,* at the end of the day, Edgar provided more services than originally planned. Now, the landscaper could have had simply a large cut from the subcontractor, it still put into perspective that the value for services were reasonable. That being said, the project lasted about 5 days and the crew were beyond professional while doing their work. Edgar was also out to check on the progress several times during the project and while I had contracted to limit the patio to certain dimensions, he told me later while working on the project that I should consider expanding the patio (specifically, replacing a concrete step with the pavers and I had originally wanted to keep a little area near the house to plant vines but ended up filling that space in with pavers) as it would look better. He talked me through it and I agreed and he also did not charge me extra for this which goes to show that he values the end product of his work and while he runs a business, money is not always everything, the value of a client's satisfaction is key. Also, and more importantly, did he do everything properly? I can certainly attest that he did. I kept on an eye on what they were doing and they dug down to the proper level, filled in the space with all the proper materials, and ensured the pavers themselves were level. Some patio companies out there will make up cost by not digging down deep enough or laying enough sand/gravel, while you may have an immediate patio that looks fine, it will be either not level and/or weeds growing through within a few years so having a durable product is important. Edgar can deliver that for you. When the project was over, he did not ask me to write any review and stated that if I had any questions, I could always contact him. Worked with Edgar on a Unilock patio off a garage with a party door. He and the crew exceeded my expectations. For starters the original idea was altered with a hands on discussion of what I could or should do. Then, when it came time to dig, we altered the plan even further to the better. This helped us minimize a stoop, allowing better continuity on the platform and a more clean look. He made me a partner along the way and was approachable for all my questions. Requested a new quote 3 years later as I want to extend the patio they did all the way to a new fence, and my garage was being rebuilt and I wanted the walkway to match the patio. The walkway was 70 sq ft. The extended patio was a new 150 sq ft. The original patio they competed was 240 sq ft at $4,545. That's $19/sq ft. The quote he sent me this time around (he called to give it over the phone before he sent it to me in a written proposal, then didn't send the written proposal) was $3500 for the 70 sq foot walkway ($50/sq ft) and $7000 for the remaining patio INCLUDING the cost of subcontracting out a tree root removal service, which is still $50/sq ft so the math wasn't mathin. I think he just didn't want the job and picked 10k. I ended up going with a concrete walkway. "Inflation" and all... read more

He returned my phone call within 48 hours, showed up on time for every appointment, compromised the design, and on top of everything, had the strong crews to deliver an excellent work. I cannot say enough great things about Edgar and his crew. Edgar came out to give us an estimate of the work that needed to be done for a new patio. He gave us great recommendations and explained everything that needed would get done in detail. We sent over some changes we were looking for and was able to accomodate. After signing all the paperwork Edgar came out and brought us samples of the material and also did a walk through and we also did a mock outline with spray paint to have an idea of the work. The work began as promised, we were given a time frame of completion and it was met. There was a bit of delay due to some rainy days, but nonetheless finished within the time frame given. His crew arrived on time and worked throughout the day diligently. Edgar would stop in periodically to check in on his crew and kept me posted on any changes, updates or last minute audibles that needed to happen. Edgar stopped by to give his final inspection and stamp of approval. Payment and receipts were given and everything was as smooth as could be! The need to do something with our back yard became absolute this spring. Our grass, a particularly lush and resilient strain imported from Japan by the previous owners, to prevent doggie damage was utterly resistant to our push mower, and had grown to the point that not only was our very kind neighbor unwilling to come over and use his electric mower on it, but there were sightings of tigers moving through it at twilight. We knew we had rabbits, we feared we were giving the local rats a lovely hiding place, too. We got a referral for one company that had done an excellent job for a friend, and the owner came out, talked nice for about fifteen minutes and then disappeared forever. It's been close to a month and I still haven't gotten the promised estimate from him, and his attitude when he spoke to my general contractor left something to be desired, basically saying that he couldn't do the work before late August at the earliest so maybe we should just hire someone else. So my contractor referred another company, and again I went out and explained the plans to the owner who produced an estimate before he left my property! It was a little higher than I'd hoped, but he explained that the stone I'd chosen was the premium stuff, and as I wasn't willing to give that up, I okayed it. They started work the following week (the weather held up the project,) and by Monday it was finished! Done in two weeks instead of the who-knows-how-long it might've taken me with the other company. And I have to tell you, they did a fantastic job. The stone is gorgeous, their work is excellent and my patio looks like a dream! (I'll be uploading photos soon.) The workers were here when they were supposed to be, worked hard all day, and were polite and friendly. There was a slight mix-up about the raised bed which caused me to scale back my plans a bit, but in the end, the owner didn't like the way it looked and enlarged it for no extra cost. That's the kind of attention to detail and customer service that wins loyalty. Exceeded Expectations! We recently hired Edgar and Aztec Stone Design to replace an older existing concrete paver patio and walkway with a new larger clay brick paver patio and walkway. Edgar came out and met with us to listen to our ideas, and then proceeded to make suggestions of his own which turned out to be the better option. The final product exceeded our expectations. The guys on his crew were complete professionals, and the stone cutter was gifted. The transition they created between the walkway and the patio is gorgeous, and not at all expected. True craftsmen! Edgar was at the site each day at least once to make sure we were happy with the work, and to answer any questions. I have have never dealt with a contractor who was more conscientious. I was seeking a reputable firm to build a retaining wall for my front and repair my patio. I saw that Aztec had recently worked on my next door neighbor's yard and a home down the street. The work was well done. I left a message for Edgar and he contacted me within the hour. Unfortunately he was not able to work on my project last year, but called early spring to schedule the work. In short, he built an attractive retaining well for the front; rebuilt my entire patio, and landscaped the back and front. He was very professional and offered great ideas that worked within my budget and goals. His teams were timely and performed without incident. Edgar visited the site regularly to ensure optimal performance. With respect to my patio, originally I only wanted to repair lose bricks. He identified the problem as more poor foundational work. So he recommend a total rebuild using existing bricks but with proper foundation. I'm glad I listened as the patio looks great now and is very solid. My experience was similar to Matthew from 7/18/16. Edgar provided a proposal to me for some concrete sidewalk work. His pricing was competitive and he seemed professional as well. Everything went great until I signed the proposal near the end of April. I was told that I would receive a start date soon and that the work would get done sometime in May. Weeks later I still had no start date. Each time I followed up I was either brushed off with a statement saying I'd get a date by the end of the week or that other projects ahead of mine were being delayed due to weather (even when we had weeks of dry weather). Finally in July, after continuously giving him a break, I asked for a confirmed date else I would be cancelling the proposal. He then called me and informed me they would begin work within 2 days and to meet him to provide the deposit. The day before I was supposed to meet him he called me and stated that his 'concrete guy' (a sub-contractor) cannot start the work. After expressing my frustrations Edgar stated that he himself was upset with his concrete guy about these delays. After hearing that I wondered who really ran Aztec and how he could allow this sub-contractor (if his excuse was true) to ruin his business reputation. I finally cancelled the proposal at the start of August (a full 3 months after signing the proposal) and went with another contractor who provided a confirmed start date within a day of signing the proposal. If you need work done within a reasonable time frame don't bother with these guys. Extremely unprofessional and a waste of time. read more

The price was competitive, and the service during the quote was ok, but they kept pushing back out start date claiming that weather in Chicago in the summer of 2016 had delayed jobs (it's mostly been a very dry/hot summer....so their reasoning seems very odd). They didn't reach out to us to inform us of any delays, and we were left feeling like they simply didn't want our business, and so we ended up cancelling. Very poor indeed. read more

I had 3-4 guys working on my bluestone patio every day for about two weeks. Price was competitive and the work was great. The photos really speak for themselves - the work they did on the staircase and fire pit is fantastic. Now, it remains to be seen how well the levelness of the patio holds up over the coming years; that's the true test. So I reserve the right to amend this review. But based on my interactions with Edgar, his great warranty, and the thoroughness with which his crew completed the job, I'm confident things will continue to hold up well and/or if I do have a small issue prematurely they'll fix it. read more

We have wanted to have our back yard patio redone and expanded for four years, but were having a hard time finding the right company to make it happen. Then we went to a friend of a friends house for Memorial Day and asked who did theirs. They suggested Aztec and we made the call a week later. Now I am sitting on my AMAZING BEAUTIFUL new Uniblock patio. It's gorgeous. It was reasonably priced and professionally installed. The thing I loved the most was that while they obviously do much bigger, much fancier and much more expensive projects they treated our modest patio just as they would some palace in the suburbs.
