Everything needs to improve but most definitely the food. I have not found anything that isn't lacking in taste and quality.

Food is mediocre but the service is something else. My server completely forgot about me, couldn't be found. Another server stepped in and took care of my order efficiently and politely. And transferred the table back to the original server. Then the original server reappeared and began a loud, profanity-laced, complaint about the 2nd server. I just wanted breakfast. I was even willing to accept a less than palatable breakfast. I did not sign up for f-bombs and childish antics. 2nd server is awesome. Had two different meals there. A breakfast and a dinner. Service at both meals was superior ( different waitstaff' each time). The menu is diverse and everything is well prepared and served quickly. This is a very low-key, casual place and loved by the locals. read more

We were passing through from Durango back to Albuquerque. Like we often do on this trip we wanted to pick up a burrito and eat on the road. We called it in about 15 minutes early, and it was ready right when we got there. We got the handheld breakfast burrito with ham and green. It was DELICIOUS! Very tasty, and well seasoned/prepared. The older blonde waitress was extremely rude to my overly nice father-in-law and just in general. Seemed like an angry lady that was mad that she had to be at work. The food took an hour (I don't mind waiting when staff is nice but we got zero updates, she didn't come back once to refill our drinks until the food came out) and the biscuit was hard as a rock and the gravy was pretty much flour and water. While the waitress was nice, the experience was not. The food was not great. My 80 year old dad got his meal last at the same time as when we got our check. He watched all of us eat. The waitress forgot to Put the order in. But it took forever to make 2 eggs and ham. The chicken fried steak was so salty and my mom (who is not picky) said her taco salad was the worst she had ever had. The mashed potatoes were sour and gross. Not recommended. read more

Aztec restaurant has friendly and polite staff. The coffee is absolutely dismal and the sign at the door forbids outside beverages. We've had a few meals there. Prices are fair. Breakfast is ok. Ham is usually tasty and moist. Hubby had the soup/sandwich lunch special one day and I told him it looked like wonder bread and canned chicken noodle soup. The rest room is not accessible for people who use wheelchair/walker or need space for movement. read more

I must say I am surprised. We walked in and had great customer service! Sat down for drinks ordered our appetizer. Which was cheese sticks! VERY GOOD!!!! Not once through my whole meal did my drink go empty! My boyfriend got a chicken sandwich with green Chile and cheddar cheese. He said the Chile was very very hot and he loved it!!!! Breakfast at dinner time was really good. No problem with the cook. Portion size were fair. Poor service from waitress. When she brought the omelette, I had to remind her it came with toast. She said she will get it. 30 minutes later, she brought the check after we were finished eating. She apologized about no toast & said they were busy. The whole time there, I watched her work, & she was really busy doing nothing. She definitely wasn't busy helping other customers. This place is exactly what you would expect for a small town diner. The food is really delicious, and the service is friendly and down home. I came on two different occasions during my visit. I had the tamales with Christmas sauce, which was very good and affordable. Whenever I am in a small town I like to try out their chicken fried steak, and this one did not disappoint. We had breakfast here and I'm sorry to say it was pretty bad. The place is a bit dingy and did t seem particularly clean. Our waitress was cranky towards us but was very friendly towards customers that appeared to be regulars. My husband ordered water as his only beverage and we had to remind the waitress three times and finally got it after our food arrived. My eggs, ordered over medium, arrived looking burnt. One egg was actually edible but the other was hard as a rock. The hash browns looked appealing and crispy but tasted of fuel. The toast was cold but drenched in melted margarine. Hubby ordered an omelet, which was also a bit burnt. We, along with 4 other guests waited about 12 minutes for a cashier to take our money. The waitress that finally came to ring us out (who happened to be our waitress) walked by several times but didn't seem to be doing anything. I doubt we'll be back. read more

I have waited well over a week before posting my review and I'm still fuming! Two weeks ago we lost our brother Mike. There were family members from Phoenix, San Antonio, Albuquerque and Clovis California. The day after the funeral we all decided to meet for breakfast as we were all heading out to go home. We chose the Aztec Restaurant as it's very sentimental to us as our father Warren Allenbaugh owned and operated the restaurant as well as catering to the men in the oilfield. Everyone of his children in some way worked in that restaurant. It was close to our hearts. First problem, 15 minutes after we arrived all of us FINALLY got our coffee. There were 12 or 13 of us. Second problem, as all of us were drinking coffee we asked for more creamer. The waitress ignored us but later brought SIX creamers for 12-13 people? Doesn't make sense to me. Third problem, we never got our coffee refilled and we're talking at least 30 minutes of being in there. Fourth problem, I found the waitress at her station or whatever they call the place they keep the coffee behind the wall and was asked if we could get more coffee. The incompetent waitress then asked me, "why are you being mean to me?" WHAT??? She then stormed off into the kitchen and we never got our coffees refilled. A few minutes later my daughter had walked outside and on her way back in she passed our former waitress on her way out. She'd quit! We did end up with a new and very nice waitress who took our order. Not too long after that the new and EXTREMELY RUDE new owner came to our table. Looking back I believe she was called to come in because our first waitress had quit. We were still shaking our heads over that one. As she got to our table I told her that I'd heard that a former waitress had purchased the restaurant and I now knew who she was because of prior visits into the restaurant over the past several years. The first thing she said was, I DON'T KNOW ANY OF YOU! I told her that I'd lived there several years ago and asked if she knew of my son and his death and then said she yes she knew our family. We'd never had any issues in that restaurant and actually met friends there a couple of years ago for dinner. Last problem, we were then told to leave. WHAT???? I asked why and she said she'd lost a waitress because of our large group! (Hmmm, in my experience as a customer and a waitress myself it doesn't take a rocket scientist to get 12-13 people coffee and creamer!) Again she told us that we all had to leave! Not a problem you rude new restaurant owner On our way out I was trying to tell her that our father had previously owned and operated the restaurant in 1980-1981. She then gave me this horrible nasty look and said, "oh I'm suuuure you're father owned it". I told her to take that nasty face and look it up! This was the END of our problems that morning. We left and went to McDonald's. We ate, we talked and it was time for everyone to go home. On my way out I asked to speak to the manager on duty. I told the poor kid on the register that everything was fine I just wanted to talk to him. The manager came over and I asked him if our group had caused any problems and was told no and that we were all courteous. End of story You have been warned that the waitresses are incompetent and the owner was one of the rudest people I'd ever met! Again, you have been warned! read more

Passing thru Aztec on our way from Durango, we were looking for a local "Mom & Pop" place for lunch. The Aztec Restaurant fit the bill, and was obviously a locals hangout. The exterior is older and not very inspirational, but with ample parking. The interior was simple cafe-style metal tables/chairs with lots of homey touches. The menu was vast, and breakfast is served all day. Our waitress, Tiffany, was perky, friendly and efficient. We split a chicken fried steak breakfast, which was perfect for our slim appetites. The food was served quick and hot. The fried steak was crispy, but average. The gravy and hash browns were above average. Overall, this is an above-average small-town diner, and we'll likely be back! read more

I mean... I get it. I'm from a small town, hard to find help, etc. but man! Walked in and it said wait to be seated. Two saw us standing there. No hello, one minute, nothing. We walked over a bit as the locals walked right in and sat down and asked the waitress working the register were we should sit and she said anywhere. So we sit before anyone else in the 5 table section. Our waitress asked a helper to set us up while she set up the 6 that came in after us. Mmm ok. Once she took their order I said to my husband were they here before us as she was making her way to the kitchen and then decided to turn around and take our order. Like I said... I get it, small town and locals but come on. So after about 20 minutes I get my oatmeal or as I called it cold water with oats and my dark toasted toast that was basically not toasted at all. Asked the helper if they could microwave it again. She said sure but didn't take it. A couple minutes later as the waitress walked by, not to see if we needed anything, just walking by, I asked her and she took it. Once she brought it back the soup was gone and it was regular oatmeal. 3 waitresses 5 tables each to take care of. Each had 3 tables with people in them. It's not difficult... just saying. Overall, would say wouldnt stop here especially if your not looking to take over an hour of your life unless of course you're a local. read more

Nice local diner, breakfast is good, pancakes, biscuits and gravy are good, the green chili and red chile are NM style, tasty with nice spice. I like their chile better than Wecks in Farmington. Green chile cheese burger is wonderful, but skip the curly fries, very very greasy, limp and awful. They need to work on that since they spiral them themselves, they could be a hit if they were crispy like French fries should be. Breakfast is served all day. read more

We stopped in and had breakfast. We were in a rush to make it to the Highland games nearby and Melissa said, "Breakfast is all kinds of fast." Which was true. We had drink in minute and our food in 10 minutes. Even though it was speedy it was delicious. Three of us had a breakfast burrito smothered with green chili and the kids split a Hungry man of eggs, bacon and two pancakes as big as the plate. Everything was wonderful.
