Came here with friends after work and I was pretty impressed. The interior was moody so it's great for date night or friends night out. We got some foods to share which was great since we can eat little bit of everything. The drinks were tasty but pretty strong. The staff was helpful in giving us recommendations. Took one of my very special lady friend here. She wanted an upscale Japanese/sushi restaurant and I turned to ChatGPT/AI to answer my request for the top upscale sushi restaurant in the area. This came up as the number one. The place is beautiful with great decor, good dim lighting, clean newer tables, and a sparkling eye catching bar. I made reservations so we were promptly seated by a friendly host and brought to our table. My friend requested the table next to that one instead, and they obliged happily. We were given menus and asked if we wanted any drinks. Ordered the cucumber/lime based Tequila drink "Kyuri Mint" and loved it. Started out with crispy Brussel sprouts as we looked at the menu to decide what we wanted to eat. I'm vegan and my surprise, there was a whole separate Vegan menu! My friend ordered the lobster roll and essentially licked the plate clean. The vegan rolls were good, I recall the server saying that the "spicy tuna" was sweet potato based. Would prefer some type of plant based look alike substitute, but the sweet potato was still good! Overall, the staff was very friendly and inviting, service was attentive, food was great and I highly recommend this place. The manager seemed to know what he was talking about and ran a great overall experience with the staff. I ordered dessert and told them it was my friend's birthday. Last minute decision for sushi with my best friend. Phenomenal! It had some classic options, but the overall vibe of the place made it feel so fancy. On the pricier side, but the tables felt intimate, the food was tasty, and we had a great time together without feeling rushed. read more

Service was very good our waitress had good recommendations for the most part . She recommended the truffle sashimi tacos and those were actually our favorite thing they were so good!! We also had a few rolls and all were very tasty . The ceviche was also very delicious and tasted fresh . The one thing I was really looking forward to was the Denver wagyu and sadly that was the one thing that disappointed us! Absolutely no flavor!!! And it was so hard to eat so chewy almost not eatable. i was so disappointed because that's the one dish that was hyped up the most! Definitely do not recommend that dish . I love that there is an upscale restaurant in the city of Whittier. The ambiance inside is very sexy and modern, a great date night or girls night out. From the minute I walked in to the end of our meal...WOW! Young host greeted me with a smile and welcomed me in. Extraordinary service, food and vibe! Today is Easter Sunday and I was in for the highlight of my day after church. Rashad W helped us and at the end of our dinner he asked if we wanted a Bible verse and as a Christian, seeing him do the work of the Lord at his job was absolutely amazing. I haven't been in this place for years way before it was remodeled. Coming into it I thought pretty swanky. I was seated on the bar side and waiting for my son and my daughter-in-law. The swankiest was short-lived because on the bar side there were "loud sportsbar type" men hanging around the bar. I certainly don't mind sports bars, but I don't think this is the vibe this Restaurant is quite looking for. The other side, the music is a little softer, which makes it easier to talk to the people across from you and it's more of the ambience that I was looking for. All the dishes were excellent. The flavors were mouthwatering. I highly suggest you try it, although for three people and having roughly 5 to 6 dishes with 1 cocktail each, it was nearly $300, so it's not an every day affordable sushi restaurant but definitely for a special occasion . Make sure if you want classy you sit on the sushi bar side. read more

Showed up on a Friday evening looking for a table for 2, they offered us bar seats or sushi counter seats and we asked to wait for a table. Hostess let us know it was a 30 minute wait or we can go dine at their sister spot a few doors down. Vibe kinda started throwing us off. They recommended we go have a drink elsewhere while we wait. Go across the street and order drinks and 10 minutes in they text that our table is ready. We finish drinks and head back in a rush to be put at the smallest table by the door. Hostess then again mentions they are super busy and Saturday and Sundays are better days to visit. Our waitress comes about 10 minutes later with water, another 10 minutes later to take our drink order while mentioning that even drinks are taking about 45 minutes. We arrived at 7:50 by now it's around 9pm. So our waitress also mentions that our food is going to take super long and some other parties also canceled because of the wait times stating that even small parties that are already seated and continue to order are prioritized before us. Definitely not the service we were expecting and definitely will not be coming back to try this place. read more

I almost always order the Denver Wagyu, which never disappoints. They also offer a great selection of fresh seafood, with plenty of options to choose from. Gorgeous restaurant, very upscale feel. Food was great my classic old fashion was yummy. The atmosphere however was a bit off there was a large group of about 8-10 people that were screaming at each other I couldn't hear my friend speak and she couldn't hear me and were were 2 ft across from each other. I'm surprised the restaurant didn't ask them to keep it down or leave. Other patrons were complaining, we asked to move tables that help very minimal. read more

Excellent service and a great ambiance. We tried the spicy edamame, baked lobster roll, and baked salmon roll. Unfortunately, the edamame wasn't spicy at all and the rolls were a bit different from what I'm used to and not very flavorful for my taste. Came here for my birthday and Our server was Rashad(sorry if I misspelled it) and it was such a great experience. Not only did he give great recommendations but the food was so tasty. We orders the lobster rolls, ceviche and cucumber salad as appetizers and then we finished off with some sushi rolls. The geisha roll was definitely our favorite. The end of our meal consisted of a complimentary matcha icecream with fruit (absolutely delish & toddler approved). The murals painted on the walls were beautiful and the ambiance in all gave it a fancy dining experience however, there's no need to come too fancy. We will be coming back. We found this restaurant on Yelp when traveling through Whittier. Made a reservation for 15 minutes later and easily got seats at the counter on a Friday evening. When we approached, we were worried that we were underdressed in shorts and jeans but everything was fine. Once seated, our server was extremely attentive and took great care of us. The food was spectacular! We started with a yellow tail roll, moved on to the Keto roll (no rice) and finished with the signature wagu roll with shaved truffle that came out in a smoke dome. It might sound silly, but the broccolini was so fabulous, my husband said he will be dreaming of it in the future. LOL! We are self-proclaimed foodies and this was our favorite meal on this vacation. The cocktails were creative and delicious too. I wish we lived closer. read more

How to date night out with my hubby! He took me to Azabu! Which is the perfect setting for a date night.... I definitely will be coming back with friends !!! The ambience is so perfect for a romantic dinner!!! The food is amazing. The quality is so perfect. My only complaint is the rice was a tad a bit soggy and a little bit on the vinegary side. For the class in the price point, I was expecting better, it's really important to get sushi rice perfect or it kind of ruins the dish. The service was amazing. There was one guy working two full rolls of tables and he was fast and efficient. He gave out the best pointers, and he gave out the best suggestions for drinks. He was super friendly, super motivated. You can tell he really liked his job. For a packed night they were fast and efficient! I suggest this place and I cannot wait to come back !!!. read more

Back again after a long day at the office. Just came for a beer, this time I tried Asahi Beer, now is one of my favorites Service like always at the top, everyone is super nice and welcoming. To my surprise I had JJ again as my beer server and he is the one that recommended the Asahi. I heard there is a new manager, his name is Stephen, I mentioned about doing a get together with my group of friends or family before Christmas and he showed me the private room for special private gatherings. Absolutely love the vegan sushi options. I've driven by here so many times in uptown whittier, I'm glad I finally got to try this place for dinner. Came during happy hour 4-6 everyday. The husband got a cocktail that was absolutely delicious! We also got the wagyu dumplings from the HH menu. A complete delight, perfect contrast of yuzu to the richness of the a5 wagyu. A very nice little treat. I came for some vegan sushi. I really loved plant lab in highland Park and was devastated they closed. So I saw azabu had vegan sushi on a menu, five months ago. They've changed their menu a bit, but now they can make almost anything on their menu into vegan. I chose something off the old vegan menu, the baked scallop roll. And it was really tasty. I personally love scallops, and these vegans one were quite comparable. The use of the soy and the almost crispy texture on the outside was a very unique and successful creation of scallop that wasn't just mushrooms lol. The flavors were on point, no seaweed on this roll, but black/purple rice was used. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you're craving some high quality sashimi, sushi, cocktails, or even vegan sushi. read more

We've been waiting to try this place and just decided on whim on a Wednesday to give it a go. Holy. Cow. It was DELICIOUS! Not only that, but we got what was probably some of the best service I've ever received. Diego was our primary waiter and he was attentive, helpful, made really good suggestions, and was really, really nice. I don't think I ever saw the bottom of my water glass, and he checked on us often enough to ensure that we had what we needed and when without being annoying or too overly attentive that it's more of an interruption. The rest of the supporting staff were also amazing and helpful; we even had to give a quick shout out to the owner and as we walked out because everything was THAT good. As for the food. Just wow, guys. /chefs kiss to some of the freshest, most inspired sushi I've tasted. We got a whole bunch of nigiri and a lobster roll and everything was divine. Their nigiri was top shelf though, so I feel like next time, I'm just going to stick with their plated specials because it was phenomenal. Every flavor stood out perfectly and really let the fish itself shine- which is what I want in sushi. The restaurant vibes are also pretty cool- they've got some fun LED colors going on, the decor is beautiful, and the music is just loud enough that it drowns out the other tables without making you have to shout to yours. The Charred Spanish Octopus was so good that we had to order a second one. Perfectly cooked, not chewy, and seasoned just right. The Azabu Crunch and the Special Crunch also hit the spot, so delicious that we finished them in under 10 minutes. The Denver Wagyu was as impressive as its presentation. They torch it right at your table, and the meat was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The Wagyu Dumplings were also excellent, though they are $6 apiece. We've been dining here regularly since the new owners took over (this does not reflect the former Azabu, which declined sharply during and after COVID), and it quickly became our favorite fine-dining sushi destination in Uptown. The quality of the fish is outstanding, and the creative offerings from the bar are equally impressive. The service is consistently exceptional, which always leaves us eager to return. Jason and Michelle are wonderfully welcoming to our family, and we love celebrating our special occasions here. And I can live with a chimichurri sauce instead of the preferable hollandaise or bearnaise these usually come with. I just wish I could actually ask for a medium rare and get medium at a food joint other than where it costs me $60 or $70 a cut. The service was good. She was pleasant and quick on her feet. The ambience was good. It was a quaint space and had a lot of charm. I can't say it was too full but I attribute that more to the day being full of sporting events like the World Cup and some silly NBA thing than an actually critique of the restaurant. Subsequently, I found this a good place for dinner but not superb and I found myself wondering when the next like fate might bring me here.
