Outstanding place to stop if you're passing by Salado on I-35. Five star service with some decent wine, too! The reds here span the gamut. The Salado Red and Tannat stood out for overall quality for bouquet, body & finish. The Montepulciano finishes with robust peppery notes and would pair well with some Indian butter chicken or fajitas. Every sweet wine in the ouevre was decent, but we took home a bottle of both Sunset Sangria & Country Girl. Five star service & then some, comfortable seating both indoors & outside. Great place! Went with friends for a comedy show and dinner hosted here. The wines were so good. They have a Tempranillo red and a viognier that were excellent. The staff and helpers for the event were awesome. Hopefully they decide to host another event like this as it was truly an awesome night. read more

Let me just say wow!!!! I love wine from all over the world but this wonderful winery on 1-35 N exit 285 is a must stop. This winery has definitely won my business. I love the name, the logo, the veteran who spent two hours explaining everything to me. I am always a fan of learning how people get into wine making and these guys should stay in it. The unpacked Chardonnay has a delicious full mouth flavor, the Viognier as it heats up just a touch delivered an intense peach finish. I do like Back Road and Salado Red but High 5 with 50% charbono!!!! I never met you Charbono but I now love you. Then Montepulicano, seriously, it's from Lubbock and its to die for. Finally the sparkling almond is a must try. It is delicious just a little sweet with a hint of almond I just can't say enough about how diligently these beauties were crafted. The house is from 1850 and you have got to get in there and try these Texas wines!!!! read more

My husband and I visited Axis Winery on a Saturday afternoon from California. We are avid wine drinkers and have enjoyed wine from around the world. We were delighted today when we visited Axis Winery in Salado, Texas. We truly enjoyed the ambiance of the tasting room and the wine! We had a great experience at the bar while tasting their delicious wine. We would HIGHLY recommend this winery for both their wine and experience. Their wine selection has great variety and is sure to please all wine drinkers, and even non-wine drinkers with their creative selection. Great wine selection. I took our family group of 6 here Memorial Day weekend! It was just after their hours of operation. (We normally don't do that and are more considerate. We were down from NC and it was Memorial Day weekend!!!) The owners were super helpful, considerate, and took their time with us. Needless to say, everything was great!!! Wine was delicious. We usually drive down and will definitely be back and scoop up some of that scrumptious vino!!! read more

Glad we stopped here. Had a tasting with four wines. We didn't expect much, but man was this wine excellent. All four were easily in the 89-92 range. We had an un-oaked chardonnay, a viognier, a red blend with I believe sangiovese, and a montelpuciano that was so complex and delicious I didn't believe we were in Texas. The others were great as well. Bought a bottle of the Monte for $36 but it was worth it. Beautiful little restored cabin was a perfect setting. read more

My wife and I are California "Wine Snobs" who have worked in a a few high end Central Coast tasting rooms and know our stuff. Came in on a sleepy weekday afternoon not expecting much. Steve, the winemaker was the host. Very friendly and informative and funny. He knows his stuff, discovering wine while serving in the Marines in California (I think forget to say "Thank you for your service, Steve." Shame on me) All the wines we tried were well crafted and tasted good. SOme of the reds have a little bit of R.S. (residual sugar) to make them more palatable to folks who don;t drink a lot of dry wine, but they were good to me as well. The Sparkling ALmond was a real treat. The vast majority of the fruit comes from Texas with a bit of Washington and a wee bit of Chardonnay from that state where Texans hate people to move here from. It was a pretty decent unoaked Chard from santa barbara COunty and Steve crafted it well. We bought 3 bottles of wine and when we return to Texas to visit our kids we will most definitely visit Steve and this winery as well. read more

We were in Texas in early April and stopped at Axis. The owner, a former Marine, was very knowledgeable about the wines and very customer oriented. We did the tasting and he even added more wines than were on the list. The wines were very good. If we get back to Texas, would absolutely stop there and taste and buy again. read more
