Don not rent here. I am a veteran who was homeless and used veteran services to help fund my move- in deposit and first months rent. They allowed me to move in with a zero balance. 2 months later they said I was missing my first months payment and harassed me the entire time I was there for it. They stole my first months rent. The first manager knew it and my Va rep. The next manager knew nothing about it but the owner David did. I suffer from ptsd and many other mental issues. I finally moved out at the 8 month mark. The harassment was overwhelming. They then waited until my lease was us up to charge me over $9,000. My legal counsel said some property managers do stuff like this all the time. They are crooked. Do NOT move in here. I talk to other veterans who had problems here as well. Only gave it one star because I couldn't give it no star. This was my first apartment ever and it was supposed to be a positive experience. I was so excited and yet it was ruined by dishonest people taking advantage of homeless veterans. read more

karim the existing manager fired Tama the best employee who worked there. the hallways smell horrible and trash on floor. the manager Karim uses discriminatory practices on tenants who will complain on his neglect. and staff will gas light you to think you're wrong. the corporate contact isn't provided to tenants instead a fake email that never gets escalated. manager treats certain races of people differently. axis will nor correct my cabinets and it's been this way since I moved in and was promised it will get corrected. two years later my cabinets are still not correct. The security guard is actually the least helpful person i've ever met. Someone stole out of our vehicle and we tracked the airpods to this apartment building. The exact location of the airpods was in this building and the security guard tried to tell us the residents wouldn't do that and was so incredibly unhelpful. How are you going to be a security guard and not do your job. He didn't even understand us despite explaining the situation multiple times, after we politely asked to see the security footage of our stolen purses entering the building. Could not describe how unhelpful and rude he was. He blamed the theft on the homeless, despite the AirPods being in the building. He also failed to contact his on-call manager which is mandated protocol and he is legally obligated to do so. Get a new security guard he clearly cannot do his job. read more

There's no action when the house downstairs plays music to make it feel earthquake-like vibrations in the morning and at night. They say it's acceptable. Plus, it's okay if the sound continues between 10 and 2 p.m. I had some very distressing moments during the period of my Apata contract. I've also emailed them several times. But they have no action. I've lived here for almost 4 years now and unfortunately I just renewed my lease in February. This will definitely be the last time I renew my lease here. The quality of the building has decreased, dents in the hallway walls, stain covered hallway carpets, elevators constantly not working, etc. The inside of my unit is also showing the low quality materials used. Cabinets are peeling, fake hardwood floors separating, carpet looks terrible, dryer door keeps falling off, etc... all of these things would be tolerable if it weren't for my upstairs neighbors who have 2 dogs that just bark and bark and bark on the balcony that's right outside my bedroom window and directly above my balcony. I noticed this continuous barking back in January because I also have 2 dogs that would lose their mind's whenever they heard the other dogs barking. I started emailing management back then about it. I was told to call security. I have since then sent numerous emails, called security on a regular basis, recorded videos of the constant/continuous barking, etc. I'm fed up and all management can tell me is to keep calling security. 3 months of dogs barking ALL. Day. Long. I can't go on my balcony without the 2 dogs barking. I can't open my bedroom window without having 2 dogs barking right outside my window. The upstairs resident just leaves their balcony door open 24/7 (can see it in videos) so the dogs can just go out and bark at any time in the middle of the day or night. I finally filed a noise complaint with animal control services today to see if they can actually be of help in this situation. Other reasons I won't renew my lease again: - This is the first year my rent hasn't gone up and has stayed the same. Every year they have tried to raise my rent over $300/month!!! Every year I have negotiated it down to an under $200 increase. This year I told them I was moving and all the sudden I don't have a rental increase. - They started charging each apartment $15/month for some sort of mandatory liability insurance that doesn't cover your personal belongings. More hoops to jump through if you have your own renters insurance to get this charge taken off. - They started charging each apartment $10/month after they had Amazon lockers installed. If you have to pay a separate fee for it, it's not an amenity. - Fire department has had to rescue people from the constantly broken elevators more than once. - Parking garage gate is always broken. - Trash shoots are always broken or people just can't figure out how to use the and pile their trash in the hallway. - Security changes frequently. The last batch enabled someone to steal every single bicycle (cut kryptonite locks and all) out of the bike storage room one night. They still haven't fixed that door after almost 2 years. - A lot of "don't do this" emails with no follow through. - Just recently several residents have moved in with dogs who do not pick up their dog poop. The mulched around all the trees on the sidewalk is just polluted with dog poop. Watch out! Why 2 stars? - 2Br/2Br south east corner unit floor plans are amazing and spacious and have balconies. 3rd floor has 12' ceilings - South Park neighborhood is generally quiet and more clean - Dedicated EV parking for only $130/month - Current security team is pretty on-point (Fabby, Nayeli, Jose, Natalie) - The porters are very friendly and work hard to keep the place as clean as possible. -Amenities are standard for a newer "luxury" DTLA apartment complex but nothing to write home about. read more

I would just like to say this is the best residence I've ever lived in and after the initial tour it was impossible to even entertain living anywhere else. My initial POC (point of contact) was Dennis, a leasing agent, at the Axis residence, and he's the personification of 5 star customer service. Dennis not only answered all 100 of my questions but even manages to reach out 3x a wk just to ensure that I'm happy with my quality of life. Having an representative like Dennis makes makes life easy, especially with the structure, safety, and comfort that exists at this location (1200 South Broadway). The most impressive quality of Axis DTLA is the customer service and the site itself. I appreciate the constant communication that I have with all type of the staff, within a short period of time, and the attention to detail. END OF LEASE UPDATE I'm happy to say I enjoyed my stay here. Whatever goes wrong gets right very fast, with regular updates for long projects (there was only one "long project" that took a few days, but they were replacing the whole garage door so ‍) Their maintenance staff are amazing and very courteous. This isn't like the most luxury apartment, but it is maintained very well. Shared spaces are kept very clean, on the daily! I admit I grilled a lot of tandoori chicken and steaks, the next day the grills are spotless. If you're facing pico, I'm sorry but noise will be your biggest issue. There's a party venue right outside your window and two "unlabeled" buildings that are regularly used for parties. One party ended at 6am, granted that only happened once. Get the 11 building if you can!! It has the pool, the 12 building only has the hot tub. Overall, Axis never caused me a headache which is all you ever really need from your apartment. If they lowered their lease prices by 200-300/mo I think they'd be really competitive. I'm only moving because I'd rather pay 200 more to live in a freaking sick apartment with a patio and and have all the amenities (which are nicer/more modern) in one building read more

*2.5 stars* I've lived here for a little over 3 years now and will admit, the first year was pretty good... now, i'm counting down the days til February 8th. Worth noting that I've lived in DTLA for 15 years now and have been through it all and seen it all. Pros: In terms of location, Axis ideal. It's quiet and its in South Park, so its generally pretty clean (especially for DTLA standards, iykyk,) it is really close to the freeway, convenient walking to all the things, metered street parking is ample and still cheap for guests to park (and there's a cheap surface lot across the street.) My unit, a 2BR/2BR, corner unit with balcony is my favorite apartment floor plan I have ever lived in. The closets are spacious and there are 3 of them in my unit. I also have high ceilings, apparently only the 3rd floor units do though. Parking. I have a designated EV charging space For $130/month. This is pretty reasonable for DTLA. Gas range stove. Most of the staff. Martha, one of the porters on staff in building 12 is the absolute best and Porsche, Natalie, and Michael (not sure if he's here anymore though) of the security team are amazing & always helpful. Cons: Management: I've been waiting to speak with management since 10 am when they are supposed to be here, but none of them have shown up yet and it's now 10:32am as I write this. The building manager is great about sending weekly e-mails that complain about all the crappy things that the crappy people that live here do and how if they continue to be crappy they will get some sort of penalty fee, but those are either empty threats or the crappy people just don't care lol... it's always about smoking in the building, letting their dogs go to the bathroom inside the property, letting their dogs roam leash-less, or for improperly disposing of trash. Every. Single. Week. Management makes clerical errors that create huge inconveniences. 2 off the top of my head: they've had my car towed because of an error on their part and I've had eviction proceedings filed because of an error on their part. Those are kind of big deals. Additionally, it took my friend several weeks to get her name put on the lease when she decided to move in with me and during that time her car was stolen from parking on the street. Trash - it's an issue. The trash shoots are broken often and instead of people reading signs and taking an extra 2 minutes to drop off their trash in the designated area when the shoots are down, they just pile it in the hallway in front of the trash shoot. Smells great. Pets - As a dog owner (of 2 large dogs) I am constantly appalled at the number of people who let their dogs do their business in the parking garage, don't clean up after their pets outside (they just let them shit wherever and don't pick it up,) or let their dogs run leash-less in the apartment building and outside even after e-mail after e-mail after e-mail asking them to not do these things. Elevators - I can only speak for building 12 on this, but there are three and 80-90% of the time at least 1 if not 2, are not working... glad I don't mind taking the stairs. Parking Garage Gates: Also always broke. Inside apartment noise: definitely going to hear your upstairs neighbors... pray they don't have children and are light on their feet. Hot water: when I first moved in this was a major issue, it would take 20 minutes some days for my water to get hot. Seems better now, but every once in a while it takes longer. Apartment interior/finishes: very cheap. I remember touring the apartment years ago and noticing a floor panel that was warped. They fixed it before our move in, but now the floors have gaps in them all over now. Also, easily scratched by your dining room chairs. Kitchen cabinets are difficult to clean if you have the darker ones and if you spill any water on them, they warp. Bathrooms: No storage whatsoever in the master bathroom and impossible to clean, "white," floating sinks Yearly rent increase: every year they have tried to increase my rent buy over $300/month. Yes, over $300/ month every single year. I have always negotiated it down, but it's annoying and frustrating when you know other people in the building who get minimal rent increases. I'm always met with the whole "your apartment is below market rate" excuse when I know people in the building who are still on COVID rates Security: We have some allstars... and ones who allow every single bike in the "secure" bike storage area to get stolen. Took my vintage 1987 Custom Bianchi road bike, ulock and all... and everyone else's too. They still haven't fixed that door, not that I would ever leave my new bike in there. Retail spaces: mostly empty and a huge eyesore on the corner of 12th and Main lookin like a bootleg swap meet hit by Jackson Pollock. I'm done with big apartment mgmt companies, they're all the same. *** READ IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THIS PLACE **** MOVE HERE IF YOU WANT THE FOLLOWINGS TO HAPPEN - floor is thin like a paper you hear the upstairs footstep starkly. Stomping gets on your nerve 24/7. It wakes you up 2am or 3am doesn't matter what time. Be ready to be constantly bothered by noises. It has been going on for 10months since I moved in. You must wear earplug if you need sleep here. - as for the matter above , contacting the management won't help resolve anything. They just ignore and say that's "common noises " and reasonable that maybe I should get used to "community living". They falsely accuse you of something you didn't do to control you. For example , they falsely creat reports (noise complaints) to use against you when you complain. - management lies and vilify you. They will use anything against you when you complain to suppress you. I was discussing the complaint of the floor noises upstairs with the management because management did not solve the issues. Instead of admitting the managements inability to rectify the situation , they bring up irrelevant issue to distract the point like "ok. But our employee reported that you were not wearing a mask and it's against our policy. Are you aware ? Maybe you should fix your own behavior before complaining about other peoples noises" (Wait.. we were discussing the floor noise problem that was ongoing 10 months, my once-forgotten mask wearing is not the issue that was on going ?) - They vilify you. Be ready. They will plot shits against you. They will create false reports. They accuse my partner of abusing animal(our pet dog) when we were just merely biting her on her foot for a play as well as gentle nudge or touch to stop her from barking. Because the problems couldn't be solved for the noise upstairs. I decided to go up to the neighbor upstairs to discuss peacefully. The asshole neighbor told the apartment that " I came up and made threats". Which I didn't. The apartment takes it facial value without proper investigation of incident and they say "I made threats and stop my behavior". ( Wait.. I just went up there to politely ask them to mitigate their footstep noises because the management is incapable of help! ). For them , it was better to use this 'plot' against you because they can now ignore my complaints by saying " you went to threaten your neighbor ". "Wow" " what a nice way to solve problem" " shutting up victim by vilifying them " - so this problem of lies and manipulation has been on going. We were just minding to move out of here when our lease is up. Now they falsely accuse us of animal abuse. They reported us to the department of health(Animal control) when we just used our normal discipline. - BEWARE. This apartment will criminalize you for something not material at all. They keep finding excuses and leverages to plot against you. Their management tactics are like those of Criminal Justice officers where they use threats and tricks to get you obey to whatever the circumstances they are creating instead of fairly managing it. Management . If you go this way, you know what. I don't care I will go head-on with this too. I will not stop reporting about the bad practices here until I move out. Within my first week of living here, I was assaulted by a homeless person not a block away from the apartment and security did absolutely nothing and made zero effort to make sure I felt safe living here. I am a 22 year old female living by herself, so this is a way I didn't expect to be treated by the staff here (considering they're so helpful in the beginning before you sign the lease). My boyfriend went downstairs and saw that the doorman was talking to someone about another person that had overdosed on drugs in the building. Everything happening here is by far not what I expected, and paying more than 2k for an apartment that claims it's safe but in reality is not is something that you should stay far away from. I was a resident here for a year, The stay wasn't as bad. But I had a few issues. The closet was gorgeous. 5 stars for that First, cheaply made. I promise I barely did anything, i am very careful with things and I felt like anything I touched broke. Cheap carpet stained so easily. Drawers broke fast. The sink material is so cheap I had marks on it the first day. After putting my toothbrush down. I feel this cheap labor is done intentionally for the MOVE OUT COST, they don't mention at move in. $600 deposit sounds great but you won't get it back. It is actually a move out fee! They don't tell you that at move in but u are mandatory to pay for clean up fee, painting (even touch ups) like why am I paying for your next tenant? that is upkeep of your building. The guy told me don't pay a cleaner bc you'll be paying twice so basically it didn't matter how clean u leave it, it's a "sanitation fee". Wtf is that? Bottom line YOU will pay for everything whenu leave even things they should cover. Also there is a utility fee, still don't know what that is and why I'm paying what I use AND a fee to use appliances. U pay for a pet BUT they can't be anywhere near the amenities. The walls are thin the couple next door were always fighting I would hear them. Loud pool parties right near my window. Most of the staff were nice, a few didn't say good morning back others were super nice! I wouldn't stay here again I just think they nickle and dime u. Piss smell soon as u leave. Trash shoots were broken often. Elevators were down alot. Cold showers, bc water wouldn't get hot sometimes. Found a cheaper complex AND my pet can actually be on the property that I pay to LIVE. They said they don't charge a move out fee and some utilities are covered. My friend lives here & moved also bc they were trying to charge $400 increase on rent! Money hungry for a subpar complex. I have been a part of this community for almost three years now and recently moved to a larger unit from my original one. I am still extremely happy with my overall experience living at AXIS. Although there are some minor issues that come with living in a building with many other residents (like a clogged trash chute or neighbors not always following community rules), the management is proactive in addressing these issues. I was worried that the move to a larger unit would be complicated, but the assistant manager, Tama, made the entire process quick and easy. From the application to the move-in date, everything was completed in less than a week! Tama was always available to answer my questions and never made me feel self-conscious or like I was inconveniencing her with my frequent visits to her office. When I needed a few repairs in my new unit, the staff handled them quickly and efficiently, all at once. They were professional and respectful of my space. I wouldn't have even known the repairs were completed if I hadn't received text updates. I truly appreciate Tama, the rest of the team, and the wonderful community here at AXIS. I wish I could do more than just leave a glowing Google review for them. read more

The good: Security is nice and pleasant to deal with. The bad: 1) Crime (see attached photos for proof): Had my $2k Cannondale bike stolen from the bike room even though it was locked up with two Kryptonite u-locks. Cars constantly get broken into. Domestic violence - was someone beating a woman (this is a good representation of who the residents are). 2) Trash Issues (also see attached photos): Trash chutes are constantly broken and residents leave trash in the hallways by the elevators, so you're constantly greeted with the wonderful smell of rotting trash. 3) Amenities: I can sum this up in two words: what amenities? Either constantly closed or shut down for repairs for many months at a time. 4) Apartment is a COVID hot spot (see attached photos): Residents don't wear masks. Management will send out emails, but that is all they will do. Cleaning crew will only wear masks around their mouths, which makes their cleaning pointless. As a result, the management team will send out emails letting the residents know about positive cases. Well, at least they used to. They have stopped notifying residents of positive cases even though they're constantly still happening. 5) Security Deposit: They will attempt to not amortize any of the replacements/repairs including paint ($160) and carpet ($680), which they're required to do so under California Civil Code 1950.5. Our carpet wasn't new when we moved in. They will also not provide you invoices of the repairs, so they're just trying to hope that you don't dispute it in small claims court. When I first moved to California I moved to Van Nuys, then Marina del Rey and I told myself I wanted to try something new and move Downtown! Never lived in the city before! My friends had already was living here at Axis on 12th. I came to visit them and I felt so safe, the energy here was like home and told myself I want to move here! So next thing you know I was living here! I must say it was the best decision ever! My leasing consultant at the time was Chris he was so helpful in many ways. I'm really going to miss it here! I have been an Axis resident since August 2018 and I have loved every minute of it! Although I'm leaving to move closer to work, during the apartment hunt process I realized how lucky I am to live at Axis for a few reasons: 1. Marcus + Caroline + Dennis + Front Desk Team -- WORLD CLASS SERVICE. Truly cannot say enough amazing things about the Axis team's attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond for residents. You never have to worry about packages, cleaning service entry into your space, or any issue going unaddressed. I feel safe and secure knowing there is always someone at the front desk. Most buildings in LA don't have true front desk staff 24 hours per day like Axis. 2. Community + Neighborhood -- DTLA can very sketchy but not our neighborhood! The South Park district has cleaning + security detail patrolling which gives a different feel than the busier historic core of downtown. Additionally, pre-COVID Axis held monthly community events where I was able to meet + connect with neighbors. This is a building of respectful + professional people and if you're open to it, you can totally make friends! This side of Downtown is only going to continue to bloom with the opening of The Proper + The Hoxton on 11th. PRO-TIP: Zinque and Prank are the best neighborhood spots for a quick walk + drink :) 3. Amenities -- Again, until apartment hunting I didn't realize how great Axis amenities are. I have lived in both 11 and 12 buildings. Personally, I love the rooftop so I prefer 12. However, living in 11 with the gym + courtyard + pool is nice too. There are plenty of areas to work from home, chill out, or even host people for an event! 4. Cleanliness -- In the age of COVID, this one is KEY! I have to give a shoutout to the Axis Porter Team who cleans elevators/common areas each day to ensure we are not spreading COVID. Both Axis buildings are kept in pristine condition and smell great. Occasionally some neighbors have improper trash disposal, but again -- the Axis team responds quickly to ensure all common areas are clean + tidy. 5. WORLD CLASS SERVICE -- I have to come back to this. The concierge + front desk team at Axis are OUT OF THIS WORLD!! You will not find a better staff. Major shoutout to Dennis, Porsche, Jose, Nat, and everyone else! This is by far what I will miss the most about Axis. In touring other apartments I realized how lucky we are. All in all, if you're looking for a place to live Downton -- AXIS IS IT!!! It's the best community. Nice mid-rise near LA Live. Management was very helpful, front desk team was always on top of it, especially Natalie at 1100 S. Hill front desk. She was always very professional, always helpful and eager to assist with anything. Carrie in leasing was great, too. Note to Management Regarding Maintenance: Lobby/Elevator areas on all floors could use regular painting/touch-ups and consistent replacement of hallways carpets near trash disposal (the quarterly shampoo doesn't cut it). They were ALWAYS dirty and not a great first impression when guests are over. Overall nice place to stay. read more

I have been a resident at the axis for 3 years now. Initially when I first moved in, I had my reservations but I got to know all the staffs and the community. I have to say, I really enjoy and love staying here but TONIGHT..... IT TOPPED IT OFF FOR ME! As I was pulling into the garage on the 2nd floor 2 men followed into the garage. I parked my car and saw them walking towards me as they were scouting around. I got out the car and immediately heard "AYE" from one of them while the other one said, "which car you want?" I hurried and walked to the door to get into the building on the 2nd floor with my key fob hoping that they're not behind me or is trying to break into my car. I rushed to the elevators, went down the lobby and there she was......... PORSCHE!! She was looking at the monitor as I approached her. I proceeded to tell her about the 2 men and she said, " I saw" and sprinted off! I didn't even get a chance to tell her what happened but she saw how frantic I was. I decided to stay and wait for her to come back. She came back shortly and told me they're not there. I reported to her what happened and left. 5 minutes later, she called me and told me she found them and kicked them out! This woman is beyond amazing! She's a tiny little girl who's probably 5 feet with braids about to tackle these 2 men. Geez, I would've never imagined how fast she reacted. If she doesn't deserve a recognition or a raise, then I don't know who will in this society right now. Thank you Porsche! read more

Let me start of by saying not only is this an amazing apartment, but the team working for them is just as great. My lease was coming to end, and I started looking into other apartments in South Park that I wanted to live in. When I initially applied, via online for a tour- I got a call from Caroline who was amazing enough to help set me up with the self guided tours. She listen to what i was interested in, and what was especially important for my new home. She gave me options and lots of it! Although we didn't end up choosing this place, Caroline Opakunle who is the assistant manager for leasing is the true GEM of this review. She went above and beyond with her customer service, helping me very thoroughly with communication, photos, videos. I'm pretty sure I called her almost twice a day to ask question and she was always there to answer for me. She embodies great customer service, and is very patient and understanding. Thank you Caroline, and the Axis apartment team for having genuine hard working people who truly care about clients! My fiancee and I moved in to the Axis on 11th in November after we saw that they had a rent special. Everything from moving in, to having guest over, to receiving packages has been seamless. The building on the outside is well kept, and the inside hallways and elevators are always touched up daily. Since we live in the 11 building, the main office is in the 12 building not allowing to run into the staff. However, when we do see them, they're so friendly. They even put together a Christmas party with food, drinks, games and prizes for the holidays! The concierge greet you with a smile and small conversation often, it's really nice. As far as some of the neighbors, some are friendly, some aren't. Can't control that :) There's a TV room that many utilize to watch sports, a club room that you can rent for an hourly fee, a pool with lounge hairs, grills (even though one is still broken). All of the amenities are why we moved in. However, the fitness classes (one during the week, and one on Saturdays) is a huge plus. OVERALL 3 STARS Management : 4-5 stars --Management will accommodate most requests to the best of their ability. Building : 1-2 stars --Noise from neighboring apartments is a major issue because the floors are paper thin. I hear my neighbor walking across the floor all day (noise level : 6+/10) and running their appliances multiple times daily (noise level 8+/10). Management cannot do anything fix the issues with the building noise because it is cheaply constructed. This is the cheapest floors I've ever had in an apartment building because every step you take will be heard by someone! Security: 4-5 stars --Very nice security. Amenities: 1-2 stars --I've rarely used gym amenities because they're often broken for months at a time. The gym on 11th has been out of commission since before the pandemic. Once there was a gym run on 12th with coaches that since has left because of frequent noise complaints. They were never replaced. None of the other retail space has ever been occupied. Maintenance : 3 stars --Maintenance is a pretty mixed bag. I've seen them perform their jobs very well and other times not so much. Service calls are average. Trash and recycling is often backed up so you will see trash in the hallways and other random locations around the building. Cleanliness has been decent otherwise and throughout pandemic seen staff wiping down surfaces. Other notable : 1-2 stars --Numerous apartments on various floors have been flooded from sprinklers that went off. The building continues having issues from water damage to the linoleum on the floors and the dry wall. --The building itself leans quite a bit. I can roll a can from one end of my apartment to the other because the slope. Additionally, the leaning causes my bedroom door frame to come apart and difficult to close. Other places around the windows and my walls there are visible cracks from leaning and or a few earthquakes. --The windows do not have screens. --Electrical problems persist though every effort to fix them has been made. Expect them to occur every few months or so, no idea why. read more

It is with great enthusiasm and pleasure that I write this review on Axis, but more Terrell Smith, the most Awesome Leasing Consulting I have ever met. I'm originally from the midwest and the first thing that stands out about Terrell is he has one of the most professional and friendly vibes you will ever encounter. I was looking for a one bedroom and I just happened to reschedule an appointment to see Axis. Terrell was Thorough! Walked me through what was available, how the process would go and left out no surprises. He was transparent, honest and never came off as a used car salesman like some of these other leasing agents. After seeing the wonderful model apartment and the building and the location, I was ALL IN. Terrell kept in constant touch with me via email and was very responsive. And did I mention that he wasn't pushy nor did he over sale the building. He presented the facts, gave his honest opinion and allowed me to come to the conclusions. HOWEVER, he confidently spoke on how wonderful the building, the amenities and the tenants were. And I must admit, the building is DOPE! Location, price, amenities, parking and the aesthetics! I drank the Axis kool-aid and it's not hype. I will be moving in soon and I'm looking forward to my new spot. Thanks to Terrell who was responsive, walked me through the application process and literally stayed in the office until I got it down (computer glitches on my end). He went above and beyond! I moved out of the Axis on Broadway three months ago and can say that it's one of the best apartment buildings I've lived in and highly recommend it. I'm living in a new building with horrific management, and it's made me really appreciate how well building management runs the Axis. A major shout out to Marcus, Caroline, and Chris, who were always responsive and helpful when I had a question or needed assistance with something. The front desk staff/security, particularly Chris, Dennis ,and Jose, also really contributed to the positive experience I had at the Axis for the 14 months I lived there. I always felt assured that my packages would be held safely until I could pick them up, and the building is incredibly responsive and quick with needed repairs. The building is really clean, with modern rooms and a nice variety of layouts. The location, though a little more remote compared to the rest of Downtown LA, is safe and a short walk to fun spots like the Ace Hotel, Dune, and Zinque. I was a bit surprised that I got less of my deposit back than I was expecting, but it seems like that may be a theme with Downtown apartments in general, and ultimately wasn't a big deal in my opinion. Another issue with modern buildings that the Axis shares is being able to hear everything happening in the unit above you. I never heard the units to the side of me though fortunately. Also, for some reason many tenants always shove big items down the trash chute, which will get clogged as a result. The Axis is a great option if you're looking for a place in Downtown, particularly if you'd like an area slightly more quiet than the heart of DTLA. Again, really impressed by how well management runs the building, and genuinely wish they were in charge of my current building. I highly recommend considering an Axis apartment! read more

I have lived here for 14 months, and I love it. Having lived in a few larger apartment buildings DTLA that had horrific management, I was pleasantly surprised how helpful and friendly everyone was. The reception/security is super helpful, even after-hours. The units are all new, so of course in great shape and very modern. The location is ideal if you venture out to restaurants and bars frequently, like myself. They are very efficient with repairs and package delivery. This place is amazing. I just moved to Los Angeles from Hawaii. The thing I was most concerned about is people because in Hawaii the customer service is amazing and everyone is always friendly. Well I can say the same thing for Axis! For my first contact with them with Chris in the leasing office it has been the most pleasurable experience ever. This place is not only beautiful and exactly as described and pictured but every single person here is so kind and helpful and friendly. I cannot recommend enough how wonderful this place is to live. Looks like they got rid of the original Axis page since the new management took over. Don't bother with this place anymore. I'm sure there's a better price for this kind of bull. They already switched management companies in the 2 or 3 years they've been open and staff turnover has been obvious. We've lived here for over a year and a half. We renewed our lease because we were generally happy with the property. In 10/2019 they switched management companies. The quality is obviously different. Judging by the number of available units for lease, probably because they can't fill the units and wanted save money on the management company. If this is the case, it's obvious. 1) The old resident portal app was community based where people can sell things, voice concerns, pose questions, access their accounts, download their lease documents. All of this is gone. The new app is bare minimum mainly surrounding how much you owe, maintenance, contact, add guest. The community aspect is gone. 2) I gave "feedback" on how the app can be improved and someone actually wrote me back saying basically take it up with on-site management who, I'm sure, did not develop the app lol WHAT IN THE RATCHETIVITY KIND OF RESPONSE IS THAT TO AN APP FEEDBACK? 3) They switched utility companies and our rent due was suddenly approx. $160 more PLUS they are charging a $6 "convenience fee" to pay rent through the app. Certainly no convenience to the residents. They keep trying to sell us a story that "we're trying to catch up" and we did not get charged utilities for November...but divided by two months (Nov and Dec), it breaks up to something like 130% higher than our previous monthly utility charges. My husband was told it's because the new utility company that the new management company uses breaks up the utility costs differently. How is this our problem when we already have an existing lease and had no knowledge management and utilities were even switching hands? 4) They told is there is one more month of "catching up" with utilities so our bill will probably be high again in January. Catching up with what? We have paid our utilities every month, and even they're charging bi-monthly the monthly break up should be the same. They offer an "explanation" of the bill but basically it seems like theyr'e explaining bullsh charges. 5) We were sold on a fitness center in our building. The fitness center was taken over by a d-bag who was constantly rude to residents made open gym hours so inconvenient and then at one point completely made it inaccessible to residents that we have not been able to use the gym in our building pretty much this entire year. Metcon Method was finally kicked out and the gym is in reno. We were promised a quick turn around but it has been closed since Oct and will probably remain closed til Jan. We have been having to walk across the street to the smaller gym in the sister building which isn't the worst, except inconvenient when you workout at 5am and since part of the draw here was the convenience of a gym downstairs. The new management company has removed any "residential" feel. All of this compounding finally compelled me to write an updated review to warn would-be renters. read more

Chris at AXIS DTLA was absolutely wonderful!!!! He was patient and very thorough as he toured my daughter Milena and I throughout the buildings and the units. He is an incredible sales person who is willing to provide as much information as needed to make you feel comfortable when entertaining your decision or better yet when closing the deal. It is obvious he loves his job which in turn creates excitement for the prospective renter. He was extremely helpful too. Thanks so much Chris you were great!!! read more

i lived in building 11. my upstairs neighbor stomps all day and all night. the stomping is so invasive that it disturbs my sleep and is quite irritating. i chose a unit that is near the courtyard, community room, and pool so i was okay with noise from those sources. but it turns out those were not even 10% as loud as the people above me. i am a pretty understanding person when it comes to noise, so when they play music during the day and it seeps through the ceiling i don't mind. however, what is annoying is the stomping (and sometimes even the music) that occurs between 11pm and 5am, when it really is a detriment to sleep. i will say the front desk staff have always been helpful and kind when it comes to stopping music at night. if i tell them my upstairs neighbor is blasting music, they have always gone up and stopped it, which i greatly appreciate. however, they seem less effective when it comes to the stomping. i know they can only do so much as a non-management level person. it is weird too because for the first half of my lease there was no stomping at all, but i think there was a new tenant who started this annoyance. at first i was like "am i being unreasonable?" but i had a friend stay over for about a week and she even took note of the stomping because it was that irritating. so i am just writing to give people forewarning of these paperthin ceilings. besides this issue, management have been kind, and i have thoroughly enjoyed living here. all my maintenance issues get resolved quickly, the amenities are nice enough, and it is a great location and great price for downtown imo. read more

I lived here for two years overall the experience was good but what made it great was how nice and helpful Natalie was! She was the security at my building! Everyday she would greet us and she always helped us if we ever needed anything. She always made sure I got my packages on time as well :) it made me feel safe knowing she was my security and I think that is very important when living in a place like Downtown Los Angeles. read more

In my sixteen years of apartment living, my year at the Axis was the best. Great amenities and staff and near a lovely tree lined area in DTLA. I would love to give Axis 5 stars had it not been for my one complaint (which is a big one) that management didn't properly handle a damage dispute that should have gone through third party insurance. We through email, connected the manager Caroline with the Christmas Tree delivery company who caused the damage to their gate as soon as it happened and did not hear any more about the issue until after we moved out 6 months later and saw a $3,000 charge added to our move out bill. We had already moved to Arizona at the time and had to come back to LA to try to deal with this issue in person because Caroline would not return our phone calls, and it was important to get this taken care of since we were planning to buy a house the next year, and have been working on our credit. Caroline was still not available to speak to us when we came to the office although we saw her walking by. But Marcus was very helpful and tried calling our old renters insurance to see if we might still be able to file a claim with them. They let us know that this would be the responsively of the Mr Jingles tree company insurance who damaged the gate and not us/our insurance. I decided not to pay a charge that I shouldn't be responsible for and was able to dispute it off of my credit record, but it was a huge hassle to deal with, and one that Caroline should have taken care of when we connected her with the owner of the tree company or she should have at least let us know at the time that she was unable to attain their insurance information and that the responsibility would fall to us so we could have dealt with this while we were living in LA and while the seasonal tree company was open. We were not able to get in touch again with their owners when we came to LA in the summer. read more

The Axis apartment is in a great clean and safe neighborhood. The complex was always clean and the maintenance team was always on top of all the issues experienced. All security guards in the front desk were always friendly and personable. Even on my last week, when they were getting flooded with packages because of the pandemic, they always kept a smile on and were willing to help. Marcus and the Axis complex were very accommodating with my unique situation during the pandemic as well. I only say that to show you how personable and understanding the people are here and they don't just treat you like another number to crunch, but as a person looking for a place to call home. Shout out to Jose, Dennis, Marcus, Chris, and all the maintenance team! You guys are amazing in your profession and you guys were the real differentiating factor in me enjoying my stay there.
