If I could give six stars, I would! Sung is perhaps the best contractor we have ever used for work on our house. To give some perspective, we first contacted Sung on the recommendation of two friends who had their gas water heaters replaced with heat pump water heaters by him. We called him on Labor Day weekend and he promptly called us back and scheduled an appointment to check out our house (water heater location, etc.) the next day. We were concerned about getting the water heater installed by the end of September so that we could get the full rebates from PCE before September 30th. To make a long story short, Sung was able to install our water heater by September 21st and we received our rebate checks shortly thereafter. I mention getting the rebate checks timely because it requires some paperwork to be completed by the contractor and Sung was prompt with that also. Here are some things that I like about Sung and which, I think, set him apart from other contractors: 1) he was very prompt and reliable - he would show up at the time he told us he would, he would call or text us to update us as to the status of the project (when he was getting the product, when he would be by to install, etc.); 2) he was always looking for ways to save us money (he was able to find us a rebate that was even better than what PCE was offering which netted us another $200); 3) his work was good and he followed up with us to make sure everything was working well. I have since recommended Sung to a number of other people. My only regret is that I didn't write this review earlier. I wish him success in all that he does and would not hesitate to use him again if we ever had a plumbing project. read more

Awesome Plumbing lives up to its name. Sung did an amazing job on my HPWH and thought through every step of the way to provide me with unbelievably helpful information and creative solutions. About a year ago, he came by to give me an estimate. At the time, he reviewed the location of my gas water heater, the layout of the house, all of the plumbing to the kitchen and bathrooms. He let me know that although HPWH are quiet, if he placed it in the location of the old one, the house would essentially act as an amplifier for the humming of the pump and it would probably drive me nuts. He suggested putting the new one in my garage. He was not pushy and it seemed like this was entirely to my benefit as he still planned to wrestle the old one out of its cramped location. He then got back in touch with me about 10 months later, saying he wanted to share some information and review the site. This time I was ready, having done research on what I'd need to do to electrify my house overall. He informed me of phenomenal rebates that would start in November and we talked about details of how to handle the project. He also recommended an electrician to do the conversion of a 240V outlet (Treehouse) who were efficient and very cost-effective. Sung came back to install the HPWH in the garage and haul away the old one. The installation is so professional and clean. The earthquake bracing is neat and solid, the lines and insulation for them are straight and clean, and he helped me get set up with the AO Smith app so I would qualify for rebates. He handled EVERYTHING for the rebates and the permit so it was easy and seamless for me. Net cost to me for the HPWH and installation (excluding city permit) was $220. Seriously, a total deal. My old water heater was 11 years old, about the age when my previous one conked out. I highly recommend Sung for all of your plumbing needs but especially HPWH. We recently replaced our aging gas tank water heater with a new electric heat pump water heater. We got quotes from several local plumbers, all with great reviews. After some deliberation we chose to go with Sung at Awesome Plumbing, and couldn't be happier with our choice. His quote was not the lowest, but it was much more reasonable than some of the bigger companies. Additionally, he included some very useful extras, like a thermostatic mixing valve (allows the HPWH to stay at a higher temperature for more effective capacity and efficient operation). On the scheduled day Sung showed up on time, and spent several hours working hard installing the new water heater. The work is very neat and tidy, and the water heater has been operating perfectly so far. The city inspector came and everything passed on the first try. He noticed that the first hp water heater had damage after it was unboxed, and promptly had it replaced by an undamaged unit the next day. We highly recommend Sung Kwok, proprietor of Awesome Plumbing Inc. Sung's work for us is exactly what we want from a plumber. Expeditious yet thorough, did not cut corners to complete the jobs faster, cleaned up during work as well as after completion. Also, Sung is friendly. Work so far: 1) Capped off the natural gas line in our kitchen - we switched from a gas range to an induction electric range, and got the BayRen $750.00 rebate which required the gas line capping. 2) Capped off the natural gas line in our laundry area - we switched from a defective gas dryer (and the matching washer) to a GE All-in-One washer/heat-pump dryer, and got the BayRen $250.00 rebate which required the gas line capping. 3) Replaced two of our original toilets (36 years old) with two TOTO Drake toilets (from Costco). I found out about this business from BayRen list of vendors to install electric water heater and get the state rebate. He was the cheapest bid of 3-4 quoted I got and also, the most helpful, taking the time to educate me (I'm machine Luddite and very intimidated gullible homeowner, total bait for exploitative contractors of which I've had my share of exposures sadly). He also gave me tons of tips like a pan to place the heater on just in case of leaks etc and added it for free, inspected the existing system and noticed pressure regulating device (forgot name) on back side of garage, inspected main panel and told me what I can do on my own to cut costs further. He also was so kind and thoughtful and I felt he genuinely approached my project like it was for his own family member. He was also professional, punctual, responsive and I had a lot of questions!! He is smart you can tell, and knows to think outside the box for creative solutions and I am so grateful to know he's there for even a big intimidating job like switching to solar and installing electric water heaters. Sung really is awesome. (Honestly, I chose him partly for the name, as well as the reviews.) We contacted him when our water heater broke, and (unlike another person we got an estimate from), he gave some thought to the location of the water heater, and our interest in electric options, and recommended a better option than what we were considering. He was able to come quickly and do the job, and we're very happy with the results in terms of efficiency.  There was a lot of bureaucracy around getting a heat pump water heater. We had to get a permit (which Sung facilitated), for which we needed to insulate our water pipes. For someone clueless like me, this was a confusing and challenging task - so Sung kindly came round and educated me on which pipes are which in my garage. We also needed to have, due to city regulations, a gas safety check of the whole house, and this revealed some minor leaks that had to be fixed - I was told they weren't at all dangerous, but once PG&E *knows* about a leak, they want it fixed, because liability. So that added extra cost (but luckily Sung could do it, and the price was very reasonable). I feel like he knows his stuff, and is trustworthy, and extremely helpful and hardworking. AP is very experienced and calculated the rebate for me (including squeezing my project into a tight window to qualify for a higher rebate). They were very helpful with the permits, and did a great job on the install, making some suggestions that make better use of the space and will make servicing the unit easier. The unit we installed was defective and AP helped me work with the manufacturer to get replacement parts and did the labor with no charge to me. I was referred to Sung through a friend, who mentioned that he had done a great job on his water heater in a timely manner. I asked Sung to stop by and take a look at my water heater, and not only did he want to understand how the leak was happening, but he offered many suggestions and ideas to make sure the water would not flood again in the future. Soon after I moved, I found leaks on my water heater. It was an old one that had to be replaced. The old water heater was located almost in the middle of the garage wall wasting space. Awesome plumbing came to assess the problem, gave me a quote and started the work right away and finished within a few hours. He placed the new water heater in the corner while keeping some distance following the city code, rearranged a pipe work and finished beautifully. It's been a month since I had the new water heater installed and it's been working nicely. I also have so much more space in the garage and it is in a much safer. Awesome Plumbing helped me out on a typical homeowner project of replacing a leaking hot water heater. Sung provided lots of options and insights on the pros and cons of the different choices (tankless, heat pump, traditional). Since my house is older, retrofitting the newer systems would be complicated and likely 3x more than a regular tank. As we stood there staring at the leaking beast, Sung noticed that the warranty was still live, there were 3 weeks left before the tank turned into a leaking ugly pumpkin. A quick call to Rheem's warranty line and I had the go ahead to get a credit to be used towards a new tank. Score! Not only did Sung spot the warranty, but he also was gracious with his time to remove the leaking tank and take it down to the store for the exchange and pick up a new tank with me. Super customer service that I never ever expected. The install was clean and most importantly up to current code so that this will pass the city's requirements. We had Sung replace our gas water heater with an electric heat-pump unit (Bradford-White). It was a great experience. He showed up just when he said he would, gave us a reasonable quote and explained what it included. He also checked our water pressure (it turned out to be way too high) and he included the cost of repairing that as well. He did a beautiful installation job and made sure everything was to code. He handled paperwork related to rebates and is very organized. He explained he would not be there when the inspector came, but if there were any issues (unlikely, the way he works) he would take care of them. Sure enough, his work passed inspection. We just had him come back to add a recirculating pump and fix a few minor leaks not related to his work. That was a great experience as well. I recently had Sung do two jobs at my home, and he was consistently excellent in both! I found Awesome Plumbing through the BayREN program because I wanted to upgrade to a Heat Pump Water Heater. Of the three estimates I received, not only did Sung provide a great price but also was very thorough in answering my questions and always quick to respond. Coincidentally, as I was waiting to do the job, my old gas water heater started failing, so Sung quickly adjusted plans and was flexible to move up the job (which is now working great). While on site, I enjoyed talking with Sung and he was careful to explain and teach me about my new system. Sung came in and assessed our situation and determined there was a better place to locate the new tank. We moved it from inside our condo unit to the garage instead.
