Buyer beware! Listen to others who complained about the misleading pricing. I experienced the same thing. I even reached out to the BBB hoping they would respond (without the run around) and they have not. On 8/19 I had an appt to inspect shower spout and toilet flange. The shower spout was repaired that day. For the toilet flange, I was told it needed to be replaced & repositioned and I needed a new toilet. I was quoted $3583 and told it would take 3-4 hours to completed. Based on the scope of work, it seemed to be a reasonable estimate. When the plumber arrive the following week to do the work, it took 1.5 hours. I inquired about a reduction in price since it took less than half the time. I was told no. Not feeling comfortable with that, I reached out asking what the hourly rate was. Instead of answering my question, I was told that some plumbers are more efficient and I wouldn't be charged more if it took longer etc etc. I was given an option to discuss the details of the estimate via email. I then received a phone call about my concerns. I was told they would look at a $1088 charge and get back to me the next day. 2 days later I received a voicemail that I was overcharged and would receive a $585 refund. Still no explanation for what & no breakdown of charges. Now I wonder what else was I overcharged for? What is the hourly rate? How can the plumber that gave the estimate be so wrong about the time the work would take? read more

UPDATE: Following my original review, the company supervisor(or owner) contacted me immediately to express alarm over the situation. To their credit, they dispatched a second technician to my home within 30 minutes to fix the shower at no charge. However, what the second technician uncovered only confirms how predatory the first technician was. When the second tech pulled out the "new" cartridge that the first plumber had just installed, it was the wrong part entirely (see the new attached photo of the blue cartridge). The first plumber had intentionally installed an incompatible Delta model (blue) instead of the standard one my shower required (gray). This guaranteed the shower would keep leaking so he could pressure me into cutting open my bathroom walls for thousands of dollars. The second technician easily found the correct cartridge right in his truck and fixed the leak perfectly in a short amount of time. I am grateful to the company supervisor ( or owner) for handling this so quickly and resolving it for free, but consumers need to be aware of the extreme lengths the first technician went to in order to fabricate a catastrophic plumbing failure. For this reason, I am only adding 1 star to my original review. He also told me he would be "talking to his crew", but in my opinion, any employee who is blatantly commiting criminal consumer fraud should be fired, not just "talked to". Kevin is the greatest plumber. We have a house in Burlingame, and every often we faced with the clogged pipes. The first time happened a year ago, and then 6 month after, and then 3 months after. Every time, I had a hard time getting a plumber to come and look at the problem. Each time, we had to go to home depot myself/themselves to get an Snake (tool to unclog the pipe), and pay $300-$700 for them to open the pipes. It was a huge disaster. This time, I am very happy that I have called Discount Plumbing. There are several things RIGHT about these guys: 1. They use an Automated (Artificial Intelligence) receptionist that schedules an appointment over the phone. So we got an appointment on Sunday quickly 2. They sent a technician in 2-3 hours after I called them, and the tecnician actually came during the promised window 3. The technician has all the tools needed for the job. He had Snake, Camera and whatever he needed (I think he has $100K+ worth of equipments in his van) 4. Kevin, the plumber, fixed the problem in 1 hour while the previous plumbers would waste 7+ hours to do this. 5. Even though the technician was alone, he was very very competent, and better than teams of plumbers that I have hired in the past 6. Before start doing the job, he clearly mentioned the cost of the job UPDATE originally I have reviewed them as 5 stars. Unfortunately their work broke in 5 days, and when I called them to "please come back and take a look", they said they will come at 12pm. I'm happy to say my second experience with Discount Plumbing and Rooter was as good as the first, which was a high bar to clear. I needed a simple clog removed from my line out of the garage slop sink. My DIY try had failed. I called Monday PM, let them know it was not an emergency and I was not available on Tuesday. Alfredo the dispatcher set me up for 8-10AM on Wednesday. At 8:30 my technician Stephen called and said he would be there in under 15 minutes. Stephen gave me the estimate, explained it would include checking the pipes via camera and a visual inspecting (climbing under my house) to make sure there were no leaks. Job was done in a timely fashion. The garage was cleaned up, all tools were stowed and they left behind a VERY happy customer (again). Not a big job like my prior (Sewer lateral replacement) but they paid as much attention to detail and customer satisfaction on this job like the last one. On Jun 04, 2026, Discount Plumbing Rooter Services came to my house to clear clogged the garage sink connected to the main sewer line. They decided two items need to be fixed. The blockage and replace rusted hose bib. First job: garage sink blochage: The technician used the snake for about 20 minutes. He repeated the process. I was sure that he pushed the snake enough to reach the whole length of the pipe connecting the garage sink to the main sewer line. After using the sink, he decided that the blockage was not cleared. I asked him; after using the snake how do you test whether the blockage was cleared. He said from the way the snake moves he knows that the snake is stuck at the bend of the pipe. I suggested to him to test the blockage by running the water. He refused. He said there was no need for that. His solution was to change the pipes and he may have to remove the wall. He prepared an estimate of $2,500. I decided to test the blockage myself. I turned on the water. The blockage was cleared. If I followed his advice, I would have spent $2,500 for nothing. The technician was not apologetic. He had to get rid of his $2,500 estimate and charged me $388.00. Second job: Replace rusted hose bib: The replacement hose bibb was not new. It was old and dirty. The technician had to clean it. They charged me $325.00. A few notes about cost of replacing a hose bib: In Sunnyvale the standard cost pf hose bib is $120 - $250. This includes cost of travel. The plumber was at my home. Travel cost should be excluded. In Sunnyvale, plumbers typically charge between $75 and $150 per hour. Based on the above, the charge should have been $150 or less. read more

They completed both a cast-iron trench replacement along my house and a trenchless replacement in my front yard in one day. During excavation, Christian determined that there was significant root intrusion in a pipe crossing the yard from the storm downspouts on the opposite side of the house. We shut off the main water line to the house quick enough to stem the flow, but needed fast service to assess what had happened and fix it. I used discount plumbing because the kitchen sink was backing up on both sides. The pipes below the sink were clear, so i suspected that the clog was further down the pipe. I tried the standard home remedies of hot water and then baking soda and vinegar but it seemed to work a little bit but still backed up so figured it was more of the drain pipe down to the main line. Discount plumbers was the first to respond on Yelp and I have used them before. Pretty responsive about offering the time availability the next day. The technician was on time and offered up two solutions. I was able to ask other plumbing friends if we wanted to do a snake or something called descaling which was more expensive. But I wanted to make sure that we did what was best for the house in the long term. Since we have never descaled these pipes before, ended up doing that. The technician was very informative about what was happening and was accommodating. Discount plumbing may be reasonable for their price however they are not discounting on their customer service and I would recommend them if you have any issues and I will plan to use them again. read more
