Ryan came out promptly within the pre-arranged window of time to investigate our toilet, which was burping intermittently following some recent water shutoffs in our building. He inspected it thoroughly and determined that there was no issue - most likely some air in the pipes following the shutoffs and resulting plumbing work. On that basis, he didn't charge us for the inspection. I was also really impressed with the safety precautions the company took. Before our appointment window, they texted me a picture of Ryan so I could be sure of who I was letting into my home. They also checked whether we had any pets during the initial booking call, to avoid sending a plumber who might be allergic. These are fairly small things, but they did a lot for our peace of mind. I was very disappointed with this company. I thought, incorrectly, that the would be cheaper than others. First, they took two days to get back to me on a problem that was on-going (toilet would not stop running) When they did, they sent a techniciant (Lazlo) who was curt and tried to upsale me. For example : He said it would tak $600 to fix, and when I asked him how much to just replace the toilet, he said $1300. Money is tight, and he showed no empathy in that regard. He told me he would need to be paid immediately, rather than sending me an invoice. And he was not friendly, or particulary sympathic to the cost I may be facing. He said he had to pull out the toilet to repair it, and the labor of that and replacing it would be a lot of money. I let him go, and called Advanced plumbing. They were here in a matter of hours (vs the two day wait from Discount) , came and fixed the problem without pulling out the toilet, to a total charge of $300. I've learned over time that a lot of these guys are trying to scam you and run up the bill. My advice is to shop around, and certainly don't deal with a serviceman who is less than professional, trying to increase your spending, and generally gives you a bad impression. I used these guys in 2023 for a clogged toilet / shower drain, they sent a crew of 2 plumbers with a large motorized rooter and fixed the problem. Seemed fine. This time in 2026 they sent a plumber who seemed only interested in upselling rather than being a competent plumber, even though the problem was pretty clear. He first used a camera to inspect the line (something I did not request), then tried to upsell "descaling" for $1900! Eventually he removed the toilet and ran a rooter, as I had requested. Except this guy just had the small hand rooter that I could buy myself at Lowes for $40, not the big professional one. He spent 10 minutes rooting the drain, about what I could have done myself. He charged $500 for the toilet removal and rooting, but also billed me $325 for the camera inspection, which he had said was free when had I said I didn't want it. Unfortunately I had to leave the house so my son signed for it. Not only will the management at Discount Rooter not refund the $325 after multiple emails, but as soon as the toilet was used later that day for #2, it clogged up again! The "plumber" had to return again, and still did not have a professional rooter machine. The technician was nice enough, but my 100 year old plumbing is a bit challenging. Originally called to unclog a short section of drian pipe coming from my clawfoot tub to mainline. Ended up cutting that section out for replacement. While replacing it caused tub supply lines to leak. Scratched up pipe and flange that are decorative to outside of tub. The guy worked rather untidy and did not carry rags to clean up water but used toilet paper to wipe up spills. He left without offering or giving me any receipt. But the business operation is very scammy, and "discount" it is not. If I had it to do over again I would have trusted my gut after the first phone call and moved on to try to find a local, independent plumber. I used yelp to find someone to fix a broken garbage disposal, and literally less than a minute after submitting my request I got a yelp message, a text, and a phone call from Discount Plumbers. On the phone was a friendly fellow offering to schedule a free appointment to look at the problem and give me a quote. It didn't take long for me to realize the guy on the phone was AI. That made me realize this was a large, corporate organization, not a local plumber. In spite of my misgivings, and because I didn't want to waste a lot of time, I agreed to the appointment for the next day. As I mentioned, the plumber arrived right on time and was very nice. As I had already determined via my own investigation, he told me the disposal needed to be replaced. He tapped some things into his iPad and came up with a quote of almost $700. I asked him for a breakdown of parts and labor, and he was unable to give that to me, trying to make me feel fine that the amount would cover everything. I asked him what brand disposal he would be using, and I looked it up online to find that it could be purchased for $150 at home depot. I asked him how long he thought the work would take, and he said 2 hours, which I figured meant the labor charge would be around $250/hour. As it became obvious I was skeptical, he offered a 10% discount. Since I didn't want to take the time to find someone else to come out, I just went with it. The work took 30 minutes. I just paid someone $1000/hour to replace a garbage disposal and feel pretty stupid. The icing on the cake was when he showed me a broken O-ring and said he would be giving me a new one for free. There was no additional call out charge for it being a Sunday and no charge unless work needed to be done. Antonio spent time investigating our sewer line which was completely blocked with roots and partially collapsed. Antonio showed us the camera footage as he investigated. He also went into the crawlspace to confirm what my husband had seen. Antonio was so personable throughout and very clear in his explanation of what was going on and what work needed to be done to fix everything. He returned with a full crew the following day at 8am who put in a 13hr+ day to replace all the damaged pipes in our crawlspace and replace the sewer line. They wouldn't leave until they had replaced our lawn and put our deck back together, working in the dark. I'm puzzled by the positive ratings for Discount Plumbing Rooter Services, LLC. I had a toilet that wouldn't drain because the line was blocked. Plunging only forced water past the wax ring and into the ceiling below. When I called, the company would not provide even a rough estimate over the phone, stating that a technician needed to inspect the problem first. After using a camera to inspect the line, the technician told me a standard rooter would not work and that the pipe needed to be descaled. The quoted price was $1,888, which was reduced to $1,699 after I questioned it. With a disabled bathroom, water damage, and overnight guests arriving, I felt I had little choice but to proceed. The work took approximately two hours. Based on the final charge of $1,699, that works out to nearly $850 per hour. The descaling process appeared to be little more than an expensive version of a rooter service, making the price especially difficult to justify. I was also charged an additional 3% for using a credit card. What concerns me most is that the invoice described the work as "Descaling Clogged Pipe + Crawlspace Inspection." A crawlspace inspection was never discussed and, to my knowledge, never performed. Based on my experience, the pricing was excessive and the billing was questionable. But we went ahead and had the job completed. The plumber did a very good job and left the area clean and ready for use. We've been using it for a couple of days and have no issues.
