Going on a trip to DR soon, like in 2 weeks soon and my partner and I needed to buy medium sized check in luggage. We shared a single medium sized luggage for a week long trip to Cancun, and ended up buying a small luggage because we couldn't fit everything in the singular luggage we brought. So to avoid this, we decided to invest in our first luggage pieces and Away brand was a top contender due to their lifetime warranty. There are some very poor reviews in particular to this store location in Williamsburg so I was hesitant to stop by but I really needed to see the luggage size in person before dropping 1k on 2 medium suitcases. Williamsburg parking is atrocious so finding parking is extremely variable at best. We arrived about 30 minutes before they closed and were graced by the parking gods and found a street parking spot a few stores down the block from the Away store. We walked in and were greeted by staff and left to inspect the stores suitcases in peace which I appreciated. I hate when sales associates breathe down your neck. It makes me not want to buy anything. But the lovely lady that was working on 9/2/23 at 6:30 pm (I forgot her name sorry) was super chill and laid back and gave customers space. We decided on the medium size flex luggage, the suitcases that offered expansion versus the classic. The boyfriend and I are over packers, thanks anxiety. We like to have wiggle room in our luggage. I also bought one of their toiletry bags. A bit pricy for a toiletry bag, but this one felt so nice and sturdy. Felt like good quality. Like you can wipe it down many times and it'll last you a long time. These cheaper toiletry bags (I've purchased many) are made of really thin materials and after awhile they become difficult to clean so you need up buying new ones of the same cheaper variety. Overall, the store was bright, clean, and everything was on display and you can touch and test out the luggage's and accessory pieces as you wished. When we made a decision we called the sales associate over and told her which pieces we wanted in what color and she went to grab them and came out with the boxes. All in all, it was a great shopping experience. Not necessarily for my wallet though! The customer service at this store was great, and I had no issues. My receipt was both printed and emailed to me for proof of purchase with future warranty claims and I appreciated having a physical and digital copy to save. If you need luggage for an upcoming trip or want to window shop at luggage you're considering to invest it, I'd recommend stopping by this store. read more

I had a trip coming up and read online that Away had the best travel compression socks. I had a few days till my trip so it was nice to know that there was an Away store in Williamsburg. This was purchased in November of 2023. The store is very nice and so is the staff. I purchased the Away Compression socks and off I went. They were comfortable and worked well.. for a month. Then they developed a hole in the toe area-in both socks. I contacted Away via their website and they said that shouldn't happen so they sent a prepaid label and I was sent a new pair. A month later the new pair received another hole. I asked them if they had a stronger one? They said no they only had one type and said, " it is not normal to get a hole so soon." So they sent another pair and the 2nd one was returned. And then of course...the 3rd one got a hole again in the toe area. I looked on the site and couldn't find the socks on there so I contacted customer service and was told that they were low on stock but should have them in soon. I just checked last week and couldn't find them. Well they never came back in as the item has been discontinued. I emailed customer service and inquired about them- they said, "We don't currently offer compression socks in-store or online, but if that changes we will certainly let you know!" Now I have a hole in the 3rd pair of socks worn maybe a total of 10 times and they weren't cheap at $35 per pair. Well I don't think that this brand stands behind their products otherwise I would have gotten some sort of credit but nothing. These socks will be going in the trash where they belong. Away.. this is an appropriate name for where I will be when I need to purchase travel products in the future from this company. As an aside.. I purchased a 3 pack of Conrad compression socks via Amazon and they have been working great. I have washed and rewashed them multiple times and they are still going strong. No holes, tears, or rips. read more

Their service is awful. I own several Away carry on bags. So I thought I would buy a bag as a gift for my wife. It turns out I picked out the wrong one. Trying to return and exchange an unused bag was a headache with their poor service. They make a lot of claims, but then make it really hard to exchange. I'll try Monos for my next purchase. Great, upscale store located in Williamsburg. I have been familiar with the Away brand for years but was scared to commit to a large purchase. I am about to go on a trip and figured it was time for a really well made suitcase. Stopped in the store on a week day and had no idea about any of their products. Jordan helped me and was great at explaining everything including technical details of the luggage as well as providing advice. He was friendly, efficient and great! I left with a Medium luggage. They even monogrammed a luggage tag for me in store. Very happy with the product and service received here. read more

I had been thinking about making a purchase from Away online for weeks. Then, after packing my very old carry-on for an upcoming business trip, I decided to finally check out the store in person. I actually emailed them after business hours about what they had in stock in lavender (I really love that color) and I got an email the next morning with the info. I really appreciated that. At the store, Jordan helped me, and he was so incredibly nice and knowledgeable. My impression was that the people hired for this store are all super professional and pleasant. I'm so happy with my purchase. The suitcase is beautiful, fit so much, and it's actually making me feel less dread about business travel. That's a tall order for a suitcase! First, the ordered piece of personalized luggage arrived but it was not the size that I had ordered. They said (on email - no phone numbers for customer service), we will send you another, please repackage the first one and we will arrange for pick up. Then the second one arrived, but without the initials, for which we had paid extra. Their response: "sorry". I would have thought there would be a little bit of " here's a $50 coupon for a future purchase" or something other than "we are sorry". There are other companies that sell nice luggage read more

Much like my review for Away's Manhattan location, the Williamsburg location seems to run on stupidity as well. The customer service was great, they had a great selection of items, and payment was easy and straightforward but for the love of God, I cannot understand the sheer and utter stupidity put into the idea of having customers pay of items then walk out with ONLY a dust bag. What the bloody hell is wrong with you people?!?!? I made a purchase from this location recently and the individual whom I spoke to LIED and said that my purchased item was too big to fit in any of their shopping bag. I knew said person was LYING because I know what sizes their shopping bags come in and my item wasn't even large enough to NOT fit in a shopping bag. Once again, I don't go to bloody Chanel and just walk out with a dust bag for a purse or shoes. Are you out of your bloody minds? Do better clowns! So I was gonna try to keep this short, but don't think I can. CAUTION there will be high levels of shade in this review. This is a story of a company that dropped the ball and a super hero store manager in BK that saved the day. I purchased (12) $245 dollar gifts cards online last year, for 11 impt. clients and one for myself. For those who don't have a calculator handy, that's almost $3,000 in AWAY credit. The back of the card explicitly states that this card does not expire and cannot be traded for cash value. A purposeful and incentivizing statement, which made it a great choice and an easy purchase to gift. The website also boasts themselves as having a 48 hr. turnaround on customer inquiries/outreach. What kind of customer service could be better than that? Fast fwd. a yr later. AWAY announces their first ever SALE. A unicorn has undoubtedly landed on MARS, AM I RIGHT!? I am attempting to use the gift card on the site for my purchase and I am met w this msg. "Sorry, that code is either invalid, expired, or misspelled." I'm surprised as I reread the back of the card. I call around to both of the local stores (after I have sent off an email to the website's help address and tried alternate browsers) to see if any light could be shed on my gift card woes, fingers crossed in hopes of rectifying this inconvenience. At this point, AWAY has sent out a company wide email about their site glitch, mentioning that the traffic has caused a bit of difficulty when it came to order completion, but mentions nothing about gift cards, so I proceed to dial. The NOHO store must stand for No One's Home, OKAY!?' as I was met w the same automated messaging and no return call upon leaving a msg. I called the Williamsburg store and while no answered the first two times, the third time, the voice of an angel appeared. "Hello, Away on N3rd, this is Kyle speaking'. I was incredibly thankful as he said he would help me get to the bottom of my gift card snafu, and would work in conjunction w me and the AWAY team. Always down for a tag-team, so yeah, I enlisted his help. A day after sending my inquiry to the customer service email, a 'Marissa' reached out, apologetic of my issues and made a mention that she would be able to provide an alternate coupon code to be used on the site. I was relieved, but confused as to why I needed another code to use, with what should be an active GC, but I replied w my gift card #, in hopes of receiving the new 'code' that day. ALSO concerned and mildly embarrassed about what my clients that I HAD gifted might encounter in the future. RADIO silence. I also called Corporate Gifting to see if anything could be done and was met by an equally unhelpful, 'Kat', who maintained transparency' about the website traffic difficulties, but made little sense when addressing issues surrounding the gift card AND did nothing to expedite the alternate code request necessary for purchase. Her advice was to wait for customer service to reconcile. *CUE THE $3000, that I spent on gift cards* SMH Upon provision of the gift card code to Marissa, I heard nothing back for 4 days. In that time, my item of interest had sold out. It appeared that inquiries are not ticketed and resolved to completion, but are thrown into this cyclical queue where they are addressed as they come in. COMPLETELY POINTLESS and INEFFECTIVE. Really couldn't believe how poorly this was handled. Then had the nerve to send me a feedback request on my satisfaction, that was actually the most timely communication I received! What a joke. THANKFULLY - Kyle was able to locate coding to use for purchase and had my desired luggage piece in store. My first world problems were solved! He called to confirm the correct piece. "The Bigger Aluminum Carry On in Champagne, correct!?" It's listed online as 'Gold', but he's classy, so I know what he means when he says 'Champagne'! I agree! It was too good to be true! Honestly, such a headache, but he was so communicative and helpful, despite his plethora of orders and day to day workload. SUCH A G'! Truly, the man. I attempted to buy a cranberry sparkle carry on bag at Away which was a $20 upcharge, chose my item, and paid in full. Two days later, I receive an email saying it's not in stock, but they're happy to replace the bag with another one - at no additional charge! I sent them a polite email saying that I was sure they didn't realize it, but they were writing to tell me they'd offer me a less expensive item to replace my out of stock item, and wouldn't charge me more. I receive an email back suggesting I misunderstood them (I didn't), and that another type of suitcase entirely was equally as expensive as the one I tried to buy. So. A) They don't track their stock appropriately. B) They take a few days to tell you this. C) They "offer" to replace your more expensive item with another less expensive item and D) suggest I should have understood that "by no additional charge" they meant a suitcase in a size I didn't want, that is the same price as the one I tried to buy. Sent many emails and messages and no one answers. It's been well over 24 hours. He walked me through the brand story and it made for such an engaging experience. He was so helpful and knowledgeable! The store was also so well maintained and decorated. Awful experience with Away Travel. I had shopped around for a luggage upgrade and was totally charmed by Away's products. I ordered online for a trip I had coming up, expedited the shipping, to ensure it would arrive on time. It was an expensive purchase but I was sure it would be worth the money. I received an email right after purchasing that said "It's out the door." I was thrilled, figuring my bag was on its way and I would be all set. Fast forward more than a week, and several emails back and forth with Away's "help" department and I still have no bag. I leave for my trip tomorrow and will have to figure something else out. Their customer service does not have a phone line or live chat, just email. They claim they get back to you in 24 hours or less, but multiple correspondences went unanswered for two days or more. When they do respond, they don't address any of the specifics in your email, but just give you boiler plate text. They claimed to have figured out the problem of why my bag was never shipped and corrected it. The bag wasn't shipped again. I've just received my third "It's out the door" email from Away and have no bag. This is not a premium experience. Perhaps if you buy at the retail store it would be better, but the online experience has been nothing short of horrendous, a complete runaround, and waste of time. My advice: stay AWAY! read more
