I went to Avus Autosports and they checked my vehicle and said that there was some minor "sweating" of the differential but there was no real leaking. I contacted Avus to get a second opinion/quote for my BMW after a very negative experience with the BMW dealership. I was able to make an appointment with Avus right away and they were very patient and kind even though I was late to my scheduled appointment. The inspection and diagnostic tests were performed quickly and efficiently. Sandro and Ken were very knowledgeable and transparent with what was recommended for my vehicle and was able to show me the issues and answer all my questions. When it comes to maintenance, understand that they will provide an honest assessment of your vehicle and what needs to be done. They have completely overhauled several vintage BMW and Porsche for me - BMW E23, BMW E24, 911 SC. In all cases, there is no question that the end result is better than new. The 911 SC is now the most reliable vehicle I own. All of their customers are treated with the same level of respect no matter how big or small the job. The level of expertise is also extremely high. Some reviewers have a problem with the cost. To that I would say, this is just the nature of professional services. Doctors, lawyers, chefs, home builders, mechanics - when the level of quality is exemplary, the price naturally tends to be a bit higher. You are paying for the years of experience. If you have a problem with that, don't blame them. Some of us want to pay a little more, knowing that the car will be fully sorted and then some...for years to come. Nice guys and incredibly clean shop, but questionable estimates. I took my 1982 e28 in for inspection and was quoted 10k to fix a head gasket leak that was minor. Took the car back to a performance shop in OC, leaks fixed, new suspension, and AC for 6k. All I can say is, maybe vintage rides aren't this shop's wheelhouse. I suspect either the mechanic didn't feel like working on it or didn't know how, so I got quoted some astronomical estimate for a car that's cheap to work on given it's age. Either way, 10k for a head gasket leak that had been fixed in 2021 by the previous owner but likely with bad parts, seemed wild. If you're a vintage owner, be cautious of shops that boast too much technology. It's likely that if your car can't spit out a repair code, you're ride won't get the same courtesy. read more

Avus fixed the punctured front heat exchanger/radiator on my 2021 M2 Comp. Also had the guys upgrade the larger center exchanger and oil cooler to CSF units. The work done here is excellent and would highly recommend their team if you want quality repairs/ upgrades done to your BMW. read more

Reputable shop for Porsche and most German vehicles. Offered advise on replacing the IMS bearing on a 996 C4S as well as insightful recommendations to prep the car for sale at auction. The shop is clean organized and efficient most jobs have a turnover rate of 24 hrs or less. Andrew is a resource in every sense of the word and can recommend or outsource jobs/services that Avus doesnt do in house. The mechanics are easy going, you can ask them anything and wont come at you with an entitled or doomsday type response like it can be this or that or might need to replace your entire engine and get a second mortgage on your house. everyone seems cool calm and collected and ive been there enough times where even I would get annoyed with myself. Sandro quietly maintains the papers the papers lol like the glue or the rubberband holding all the money. I didnt want to like this place because it was far from where I am and required traversing the 101/134/5 freeways im not a huge fan of glendale either but this place checks out. you can easily feel the piece of mind in knowing they speak the same language - mostly porsche and BMW. read more

I do a lot of my own work, oil changes, brakes, etc--but for bigger things like the clutch replacement that I needed last week, Avus is the shop I trust to work on my M3-even if they are an hour away--it's worth the drive. Its clear that quality is important to them, both when it comes to customer service as well as work being done on the vehicle. I first brought my car to these guys a few years ago. I have a 2003 BMW 330ci. The convertible top was broken and I couldn't find anyone who wasn't afraid to touch it. I spoke with Amir and finally brought it in. There were some loose wires so instead of the $1k repair they told me to plan for, it was about $500. Haven't had an issue since. Several years later I still wasn't using these guys as I should. I had gotten comfortable and lazy with the previous VW mechanic I was using. Although he was mainly a Volkswagen mechanic, he claimed he was confident fixing BMWs, as he drove and fixed his own. So I stayed. Personally, the guy was awesome, but professionally, as a BMW mechanic...not so much. I realized that it was a mistake and potentially dangerous for me to keep bringing my car to him. I brought my car back to Sandro at Avus because I felt unsafe in the car. I had them check the car completely and the list of things they found was exactly the thorough report I was looking for. I ended up needing a flex disc and a center bearing support on the drive shaft. These are safety issues. My previous mechanic swore the car was fine and told me the car was safe. As soon as I got the car back, I could feel the difference. They found oil leaks I had be asking about for years with my previous mechanic...he couldn't find any but was "topping me off" with 4 quarts of oil between oil changes. But it was my bad...I was being lazy and cheap trying to patron the "neighborhood mechanic" instead of getting it into a proper BMW specialist. My last mechanic was a nice guy, but Avus is not only nice, but thorough and efficient. I now know what needs to be done to the car and am working through the list. I feel confident and comfortable about the work when I leave them. The prices seem fair for the work being done. They know their stuff when it comes to BMWs. My safety and security is most important. I choose to keep my older BMW, and I choose Avus to help me service it. read more

I can't sing enough praise for Amir and the entire staff at AVUS. I recently took my 2013 328 to get a number of things fixed that the dealer advised to get done but I smartly told them I'll look elsewhere. I told Amir what the dealer said need to be done and he came back with his own analysis: most of the work the dealer suggested was legit but there were a few bogus items in there where he said that the work they were recommending was either BS or not needed yet. In addition to being honest about what work was needed/not needed...the needed work items came in significantly cheaper than the dealer.(oil change tho...ehh not so much difference...but that's likely because most of the oil change fee is the synthetic oil and not labor) I would normally stop there but the real kicker was how fast they got my car done. I dropped it off shortly after they opened on a Monday... And it was ready for pickup before lunch on Tuesday. Yes...a full day and change but compared to some of my experiences at the dealer where my car has been in the shop for well over a week for seemingly benign things... Amir and the expert mechanics were still able to accommodate the service my BMW needed at that time (front sway bar links) and they finished it at the time I requested it on the same day (by 2pm). Here goes my first yelp review.. I haven't been coming to these guys for very long.. Only to get my Dinan software re-uploaded (they're a Dinan shop) onto my e46 m3, after BMW wiped it out the first time when they did the DME emissions recall.. A second time, after I did an smg to manual transmission swap.. And the third time (that's today), after I uploaded a crap custom tune, making 15 whp/ 5 wtq less than the Dinan tune. Let me just say.. Their service is above and beyond. Amir's a great guy to deal with, and the guys at Avus are very professional, with extensive knowledge of bmw's. Came to pick up my M4 after several aftermarket parts were installed and Andrew promptly asked for CASH only or he wouldn't release my car (I thought this was strange but I took the rental car to the ATM to get cash and came right back). They cracked my front splitter while moving it around. We had inspected around the entire vehicle at the time of drop off and had signed off that there was no damage. I understand that things happen and we all make mistakes, but Andrew got really defensive and did not admit the damage! His attitude and customer service really showed me who he is after the accident. They even forgot to install some fasteners on my fender liner. Just not professional enough for my taste. read more

I've been to many well-known independent shops specializing in older BMWs--most of the major ones in Northern California, and some of the well-known ones in Los Angeles. Avus is by far THE most knowledgable, and with reasonable prices. I had the most obscure issue that big-name BMW shops couldn't address because of the lack of experience with the situation. An E34 M5 is rare, but mine had an even rarer six-speed manual swapped for the five-speed--only 752 M5s in the world came with them, none sold in the U.S. So when the fifth gear was popping out, everybody just told me the transmission is bad and that I'd need to find a new one ($6000+ and unobtainium). I was sure something was wrong in the external linkages because of the resistance, but all the shops that examined the parts said they were fine. Avus' tech Reuben took one look underneath, saw that an incorrect part was in there. He saw something that many other experienced techs that have worked on these E34s didn't notice, and quickly--amazing. Even moreso considering there could only be a couple dozen at most of these M5s running around stateside with a six-speed, making it impossible to diagnose for most. The turnaround was amazingly quick (returned the next day) even though a bunch of other work was done, and huzzah! No more fifth gear popping out. Seems like they keep lots of parts on-hand because of the short turnaround. Repairing BMWs always come at some premium, but it's reasonable at Avus. Case in point, I was quoted over $1300 to replace the diff seals at another reputable LA shop, and Avus did it for nearly half that price. Their pricing is at the mid end of the spectrum for BMW shops, and considering the expertise, it's worth every penny. I also like that they're fellow enthusiasts, and respect your opinion/passion for the car. Other shops just said "nope, bad syncrhos" without even looking at the car, Avus said they'd take a look, and actually cared about what I thought what's wrong. read more

2006 BMW e46 M3 - 47,300 miles. Bought my car last September from EAG in Cincinnati and was looking for a local Authorized Dinan shop since every BMW dealer I called in the LA area no longer installs Dinan parts. After ditching the dealership and trying a couple places closer to my home in Eagle Rock, this is where I have landed to care for my 2007 335i (even though it is a little farther away). Upkeep of a BMW is not cheap. It won't be anywhere. So I need a place that offers competitive prices within the realm of possibilities. Avus does this and meets other key requirements: - will take me the same day - has parts on hand - usually finishes work within the same day - professional, friendly service that makes the effort to know me and my car - clear advice - discussions of: what is necessary for safety; what needs to be done; what can wait; and how waiting might impact the safety, performance, and longevity of the car. Avus has always been very up front with me. Once, when my car needed something particularly and painfully pricy, they called up other shops and a dealership to give me comparison prices. I am always a little sore when my car needs repairs. Avus makes the experience a little better - and maintaining this car is cheaper than making car payments. read more

I think 5 star ratings are given too generously on yelp. I took my car in for Andrew and Dave (former employee) to give an inspection 2. They gave it a clean bill of health except for signs that by steering box was starting to fail. 3000 miles later, I bring my car back for an oil change, and Andrew gives me a lengthy list of items my car needs asap (about 9K worth of repairs). He told me, "it is not roadworthy". How can a car that was ok (except for steering box) now be unsafe to drive? I took my unroadworthy car to another mechanic for a second opinion. They went through Avus' list line by line and found nothing wrong with my car. Its still with me today, after almost 6 years since Avus' fraudulent review of my car. Sure am glad I got the second opinion. read more

I had an issue with a sub-par aftermarket exhaust (that turned into a near court case, jeesh) on my Mini a few moons ago and needed it replaced back to stock. I thought I learned this lesson 7 or 8 years ago about getting the car mod bug...guess not. Shoo away, you filthy beast! I have no doubt the techs know their stuff (which they do), but the pricing is indeed really steep. The install was done, and done properly but I honestly should have gone to get a second opinion at different local shops, because exhaust work really isn't that difficult Had I my own garage to work in I would have much rather done it myself but I just needed it done immediately, and documented, just in case the courts needed it to recoup expenses. I knocked off some stars because it took a lot longer than what was confirmed when I brought it in for the estimate, and they didn't reflash my ECU to reset the CEL codes. When I'm paying for your time, I don't want any fuck arounds if you're charging THAT much for labor. I saw the other cars you brought in and worked on before mine was finished. Additionally, they told me I'd have to come back for the reset because they were too busy. This is me rolling me eyes. Simple shit man...don't push preferred customers ahead of new customers, and the code reset takes all of what, 20 seconds? This is what prevents new customers from BECOMING preferred customers. I knew without a doubt I would be taken care of here. I even got the VIP treatment and had the privilege of sampling the famous coffee brewed by one of the technicians in the shop. It was nice and strong. I had 5 cups by the time I left, one of which was hand delivered to me by Andrew. Thank you, Andrew! I sat in the leather couch adorned lounge area and got some work done while I waited. They are top-notch. Super professional. Customer service like whoa. I was told exactly what they were going to do and they even gave my car a general inspection and a clean bill of health. They even cleaned up this micro-filter for the A/C that most dealerships/shops don't even know exists (and is a pain in the ass to pull out) under the dash. That thing was filthy until they got to it. If it weren't for them, I'd still be breathing in that gunk. Whew! The shop itself is so amazingly clean. Like, cleaner than most peoples living room type of clean. Never in my life have I ever seen a shop so clean. It was shocking. Auto shop twilight zone..right here. Andrew hooked it up with a sweet price. My bank account and I were extremely grateful. Avus is worth every penny spent. Jonathan even gave me a recommendation of a place to get my car bluetooth enabled, so that I can talk on the phone & keep my hand on the shifter like the responsible driver I am. Do not bring your car here! About a year ago my BMW started making this incredibly loud, high pitched beeping noise (similar to the sound some cars make when your seatbelt is unbuckled). I read a few reviews on yelp and it looked like Avus was trustworthy and reliable so I brought it over. They told me they would have to take the wheel and dashboard out to figure out where the beeping was coming from. After I left they gave me a call and said in order to stop the beeping they would have to replace the entire dash and it would cost almost $1000. It wasn't a safety issue so I just decided to live with the beeping. They then charged me $450 in labor fees even though they fixed nothing!! Last weekend I brought my car to Pacific Auto Service in Silver Lake because I needed to pass a smog test and the beeping was driving me CRAZY! Two hours later the mechanic called to say he stopped the beeping and got a smog test AND he only charged me $80 bucks. I just can't believe what scum the people at Avus are. Do not trust them. I had my first interaction with Avus this week to do a pre-purchase inspection on an E46 M3, and I was blown away by their customer service and BMW knowledge. First, Amir was kind enough to get me in for a pre-purchase inspection with less than 3 hours notice. I was desperate, and he came through. Second, Ruben performed the inspection and essentially saved me from making a terribly expensive mistake. He found all sorts of issues with the vehicle that I missed in my own review of the car. He was even kind enough to walk me around the vehicle and point out all of the items on his list - something I particularly appreciated as an enthusiast who is trying to learn more about these vehicles. I am very impressed! I recently bought a 2010 330i with 60k on the clock that had been serviced by an independent specialist. This being my wife's car I wanted to make sure all was OK with it and start with fresh fluids and an inspection. I live over in the LAX area and the closest dealer is not convenient, plus as it had not been dealer serviced in the last few years It made sense to look for a specialist. I found Avus via the Dinan website and then did my research, these guys really seemed like enthusiasts and I much prefer to take my cars to people who have a passion for them. My wife thought I was a little crazy being willing to drive to the Glendale area, but hey this is a performance car and I am willing to go the extra mile to get the right folks working on it so booked an 8am appointment and on the day set my alarm at 'Dang that's early'... The first good news was that I found myself mostly against traffic on the way so I arrived early to find no signage and a nondescript grey building. Once that roll up door was lifted it looked like Christmas! The shop is clean and bright while at the same time looked like a place where people worked vs a sterile service bay. The place was also chock full of nice cars which was another good sign. I was pleasantly greeted and they got me in the system and asked what I was looking for. I explained this was new to me so I wanted it inspected and any recommended work carried out. I was half expecting a laundry list of fluid replacements at the very least. They have a waiting area with a couple of couches and wifi, so I got myself comfortable while I waited for the verdict., You can imagine my surprise and delight when I was told nothing was needed until around Feb next year and the car was all up to date. They did find some worn bushings on the front, but again it wasn't a must fix, since I was there I had them take care of it, and as they knew I was waiting they put two guys on it and had it turned around quickly for me. There is no question in my mind that I will be visiting them again for the next service, and maybe a Dinan software upgrade as well :) And to finish of a great experience? Waze took me back to work via Mulholland drive which at 10am is a lovely drive. If you're a CG (Car Guy) like me, you know that thing that some dudes say when you try to talk about cars: 'I'm not a Car Guy.' To me, hearing this is sort of like saying 'I'm not into boxer briefs, I kinda like ruffled panties' or 'ooh, a hammer? too complicated, let me call my handyman.' I mean, there are guys, and there are CGs. Having owned a BMW e36 M3 for 8 years, a BMW e90 M3 (competition package, bitches) for 3 months, I am surely a CG. Before that it was a Mustang 5.0 (Vanilla Ice CG), a Jeep CJ7 (Beachy CG) and several early 80s VW's (all CG'd out). And when I was a kid, my best friend's Dad owned several 1960s Jaguar race cars that we would borrow and rip around in. At age 14. Yeah, CG. Let me be completely clear. I have tried, on several occasions, to buy a Non-CG car. It didn't work. I thought a Honda Accord would be smart. My Dad would not let it go and I wound up with an M3. I even drove a Fiat 500 for a month. And kind of liked it. But then I thought about getting hit (god forbid) and promptly got another Bimmer. And can you really snarl around the Fletcher onramp to the 2 in a car with a motorcycle engine? Nah. So yeah, CG por vida, wether I like it or not. Anyway, Avus. I'm not even a customer. I just visited the shop as a guest and was BLOWN away. Why? Because it is classy and immaculate, because they clearly LIVE for automobiles, because they are trusted with cars worth hundreds and thousands of dollars by people who could go anywhere they want. I overheard some conversations that I KNOW they must have every day, yet they still have them with the same passion as if it was the first time it came up. 'Would you buy a 540 stick for your wife? Hells yes.' You should see the precision with which they move cars around the shop. I've never seen anything like it in my life. A choreographed dance of German Steel, all done effortlessly yet with absolute precision. A dropped Ferrari motor over there, an m3 getting a Dinan Stroker motor over there, e46 with a BBK...this place is nuts! I'll be honest. After having a borderline exotic for close to 10 years, I'm not planning on EVER paying another repair bill. But if I was...I'd probably hit Avus. And it's across from Mini Kebab and they cook their employees steaks at lunch. Need I say more? read more

I have been going to these guys for many years. There is no secret to that fact that one needs to find an independent service organization for ones Beamer to avoid the unfortunately high prices that BMW dealers charge. The key is finding a group of real pros who know all the ins and outs of BMW's and can also provide alternatives for older cars, such as rebuilt components when appropriate I was even able to contact them with a roadside emergency after hours and arranged to drop the car off around the corner at a safe location for them to work on the next morning. I have a classic 2002 M-5 manual with 135K miles, which with Avus support, I plan to drive for many more years. read more

They did more than what they needed to for my car **** Let me tell you my story.... I rear-ended someone and messed up my car pretty badly at night, after all auto-repair shops are closed. I called Avus, thinking I was going to leave a voicemail and maybe they'll call me back in the morning. But no! Someone picked up! Andrew, the owner, forwards calls to his cell phone so that he can help customers after hours, in event of emergencies! We arranged details for getting my car taken in. I called Avus a couple days after I took my car in just to check in on the progress of things (I'm pretty nervous about car stuff). They told me that they were fighting a paper battle with my insurance company. My insurance company did not want Avus to use factory parts on my car. Instead, they wanted cheap and/or 2nd-hand parts to be put onto my car. Avus decided to fight and, when Insurance didn't budge, they decided to go ahead and use factory-made parts!! At their cost!!! I can tell you that no other auto-repair shop would go to that length to ensure my car comes back in top-shape. They COULD have used cheap parts and earned more money. But, they didn't! They used expensive factory parts to make sure that my car runs perfectly. Here's the funny thing... I decided to install an ipod connector to my car since it's already in the shop. Years ago I brought my car into Best Buy for some after-market part to be installed. I asked Avus to take that part off my car and install the factory-made ipod connector. They told me that Best Buy messed up my radio big time and they had to rewire everything. It took them 3 hours to fix my radio. How much did they charge me for labor? 1 hour only. Another thing... on my way out of the shop, after taking a look at my car which was in tip-top, brand-spanking-new shape, I told them off-offhandedly that I have a MINI key that needs to be initialized. I got it from the dealer but the dealer keeps on forgetting to do it. You know, to start up the auto-lock and unlock buttons. Well, I hand both keys to Reuben. He sits down in my car and within 2 mins, literally, he initialized both my keys...did they charge me for it? No. Now I have my little MINI cooper back. It looks like a brand new car. It runs better than it did before the accident. What can I say? You get what you pay for. I totally, 100% recommend them. I think I understand why people aren't happy...it's expensive. But, I guess, car repairs aren't cheap and what you pay for now will ensure that your car lives longer. Plus, they really do a good job. It's meticulous. They don't mess around. *** the car shop is also super clean. p.s. I broke my tail-light and they said they would install it for me without charging me for the labor. yeah...long review....but go there. I had my M Roadster in there a couple of years ago to fix a persistent hard starting problem. I had heard good things about AVUS, so off I went from Palos Verdes to Glendale, about a 90 min drive each way. $6800.00 and 2 such visits later, the issue still wasn't resolved and they refused to experiment (and that's all they appeared to be doing) on it further without continuing to charge me. Owner talks a fine game, but santimonious words don't repair the car. I've been living with it ever since because I just can't put any more money into it.. It wasn't just the fact that the car wasn't fixed; it was the attitude of the owner, whose position after I had paid them nearly $7000.00 for nothing, was that I was unreasonable for not wanting to give him yet more money even tho, at that point, he couldn't promise any different result,and he even seemed to imply that it was unreasonable of me to expect the car to have been fixed. I have a number of cars and some experience getting them worked on, but I sure got taken by these guys. You couldn't pay me to take a car there again. read more
