It has been over 3 weeks since the surgery and recovery was a dream! Not only did we accomplish…read moreeverything we expected, Dr. Kaufman even identified additional issues the scans did not pick up and handled everything effectively. Can not thank Dr. Kaufman enough, especially after Head and Neck associates passed me off years ago saying there was nothing wrong and that I just had allergies. I feel like my head is actually lighter, breathing is a joy, and as a musician I've already seen a great improvement in my performance. The surgery center office was very easy to work with and I have not experienced any surprise bills, Dr. Kaufman's office was fantastic about checking in during the recovery and making sure that all of my needs and questions were met/answered. I hope this review helps someone make a decision in the future on yelp, and I've already mentioned the practice to multiple friends and family.

Highly recommend Dr. Kaufman, his team and La Veta Surgical Center. Full review: Have wanted to get my deviated septum fixed for years. Could barely breathe on one side. Finally made an appointment after my husband found South Coast ENT on Google. Initial consultation was pretty quick. He confirmed what a previous CT scan had shown just by taking a look. Also noted my turbinates should be reduced too. - Was given instructions for two weeks pre-op, including notes about medication. Informed me of possible scenarios, but he also explained what he's typically seen. (If I remember correctly, I believe he said he's been doing these procedures for around 20-25 years.) - Had a pre-op appointment the week before. Was given a list of what to prepare, including saline, elevated sleeping arrangement, and extended list of what to expect. (Was able to buy saline and wedge pillow at Costco.) - Between the initial and pre-op appointment, visited both of Dr. Kaufman's offices. Everyone was friendly and explained things thoroughly. - As promised, surgery center called to set the exact surgery time the day before. - Arrived at the surgery center at 5:45am for check in. Was very impressed with amount of nurses, surgeons, staff, and operating rooms there. Despite the amount of people in the waiting room, everything went like clockwork. Seemed like they paced people checking in with those going into the pre-op area pretty well. Everyone was very nice and answered any questions I had. (Always somewhat nervous about surgery, but they reassured me a few times.) - One nurse did my intake while another nurse took my vitals. Third nurse checked on me while I waited, then the anesthesiologist explained their process. Dr. Kaufman came by after to chat before prepping. And then a fourth nurse who was going to be in the procedure helped the anesthesiologist prep me. Even with the amount of people involved, everyone was up to speed based on my chart of anything they needed to be aware of (including adverse reactions.) Other places might have felt overwhelming with that amount of people. In this case, it was an added reassurance how coordinated they were. Also didn't feel rushed and had some time to rest. - For septoplasty and turbinate reduction, procedure and anesthesia in total was between 45 min to an hour. (Awake before the person picking me up arrived from dropping off their kids at school.) Was under observation for a little while in a post-op area after. No packing in my nose, just a nose dressing under (with little hooks around the ears.) Was already able to breathe better than I had ever before. Some nausea that afternoon from the anesthesia, but that is normal for me. - Had no issues with recovery, despite what previous ENTs had informed me of. No packing needed. Very little spotting after first day. Drainage primarily the first week, but saline helped a lot. A little bit of a burning sensation when breathing deeply, especially on the side that had been blocked before (almost like it wasn't used to that much air coming in.) But that subsided as it healed. Took the antibiotics prescribed, but only needed an occasional acetaminophen / Tylenol for pain. Was more tired than I anticipated, but a few acquaintances told me they felt the same after other outpatient surgeries. (Sounds like it's just a part of the healing process.) - Both Dr. Kaufman and the surgery center called to check on me the next day. - At the one-week check up, healing looked great. Despite Dr. Kaufman having a steady flow of patients, he asked follow up questions to make sure everything was going well. He also helped clear some of the drainage. Stitches dissolved on their own, so he didn't need to remove those. Wait time was a little longer for this appointment than the others, but I was more than okay with that given how well the surgery went. (He seems to balance having some appointment / check in days and some surgery days well.) - One-month post op and I'm feeling great. Sleeping better than I ever have and have felt more energy throughout the day. Also feeling less anxious overall to the point that my family has noticed. (At the very least, getting more rest is probably helping with that.) Have already recommended Dr. Kaufman to a few friends who want to have their breathing looked at. As mentioned, was a much better experience than I could have ever anticipated.

This was the most dismissive and disrespectful medical interaction I have ever experienced. I went…read morein with significant ENT concerns and was already feeling anxious about my symptoms. He entered the room, delivered an extremely distressing prognosis in a blunt and insensitive manner, and left without offering reassurance, options, or meaningful discussion. He presented a diagnosis and emphasized an extreme worst-case outcome that caused significant alarm. Concerned, I sought opinions from multiple other ENT specialists, who expressed that his assessment and the severity he suggested were not medically supported, did not align with their clinical findings, and were not considered plausible. This was both shocking and deeply upsetting The way this information was communicated left me in tears. I will always remember how I felt in that moment, completely unsupported. Regardless of the clinical circumstances, empathy and compassion are fundamental in healthcare, and they were entirely lacking during this visit. After reading other reviews, it is evident that many patients have had similar experiences, which is deeply concerning. It is also troubling that this is the second time my review has been removed, raising questions about transparency. I would not recommend this provider to anyone.

Not only are…read morethe front desk employees kind, professional, and helpful on the phone, they are even better in person! Not sure why there would be negative reviews. I work a front desk in a very busy orthodontic office, and I know how hard of a job that is. Everything was in order for my visit, I was seen right on time, and the office continues to follow good COVID protocols. Shawn Plowman is quite honestly the best care provider (aside from my midwife) that I have had in my years of needing medical attention. He is thorough, patient, and very easy to talk to. My adult sons still see him - he established such a good relationship with them starting when they went to middle school. He is a guy's guy with them - which makes them at ease and comfortable discussing anything with him. That being said, he also is great at my own visit, so he knows how to relate to any gender or age group. Getting my yearly screening referrals that line up with my insurance was super easy. (And usually there is generally nothing easy about my HMO with Aetna.) If you made it to the end of this long review, thanks! It is pretty much the same as my last, but I felt it was time to once again thank these folks for everything yet again.
