Very mixed feelings about this place. Paid total of $325 when I was expecting to pay a little bit more than $80. Went in with an $80 promotional cut and color coupon. The hair cut looked nice and fixed a previous botched hair cut from a Great Clips. The colorist said what I wanted to do was more intensive than time allowed so I scheduled an appointment for another day. She also said the color I wanted wouldn't fully be covered by the coupon and would cost a bit more. At that time since they couldn't apply the coupon since I only got the cut I was charged for a full price hair cut ($45) and refunded the difference. I went back to the salon thinking I would be spending $35 plus "a bit more." When I went to check out the cost was $315. In retrospect I should have asked for the price first. I have never had my hair colored in a salon before (a fact I mentioned to the colorist during the appointment) and had no clue what things cost. However, I feel it very misleading to tell me the color would be a bit more than my $80 coupon when in fact it was going to cost $315. An $80 trip to the salon was already a splurge for my family. I burst into tears the moment I got into my car trying to wrap my head around the fact that I just spent $315 unknowingly. With regards to the actual color... The positives- The girl who colored my hair, Kate, was very friendly, not too chatty (which I appreciate). She offered for me to come back if anything needed touched up (she would do touch ups for free). She also stayed a little bit after the salon had closed to finish up since the appointment took longer than expected. The negatives- When I got home I realized I still had purple dye all around my forehead, on my ears, and the back of my neck and my scalp was still dark purple. Not sure if this is normal or not since I've never had my hair professionally colored. The first time I washed it, there was so much remaining dye coming out it stained my hands purple. The color job itself looks so so. The purple is blotchy in spots and my bangs look odd- one side clearly had bleach on it and is way more purple than the other (this is making me a little self-consious). If I had the expenses I would dye it back to brown. I called back the following day to ask about the price since I was so upset (not as in mad but just upset that I felt uninformed and financially strained). Also I wanted to ask if any of my coupon discount was applied. Kate apologized for not informing me of the price (I guess it's a nice gesture but doesn't help me recoup any money). They also refunded $35 since I should have gotten that much off with the coupon, bringing the total cost of cut and color to $325 (plus tip). Hardly a bit more than $80. So overall my experience would have been okay, but not great, but was made horrible by the fact that this has caused a bit of a financial strain for the month. read more

I went in today for eyebrow wax never having visited the salon before. The Salon space was clean, spacious and aesthetically pleasing. There was zero wait time for my appointment and the aesthetician/salon co-owner who Did my waxing was very friendly and professional. I felt very comfortable and was quickly in and out. I will add Covid precautions were on point (!) with extra precautions to keep all safe such as bulk available sanitizer, temperature screen and masks on all. I can't wait to return! This review is actually for Avissa Skin+Body, which is located just a few doors down from the salon. I went in yesterday for a Brazilian wax by Michelle. I dread getting this service done, but it was actually a pleasant experience with Michelle. She's warm and bubbly, and I felt comfortable right away. We chatted nonstop throughout the appointment, and before I knew it, we were all done. I appreciate how thorough she was and that she didn't try to upsell me on anything at all. At one point, she mentioned laser hair removal, but she didn't try to push it on me. I used a Groupon for my wax, and I just noticed on their website that they have quite a few promotions going on. They even have a student happy hour! Too bad I didn't discover these earlier. On top of that, she always gives great advice on skin care, hair care and more, which I find deeply helpful. I went to this place to get my first brazilian wax. My first problem was that the lady kept using the same stick. I was uneasy that she did not use a fresh stick with every new dip. Horrible eyebrow threading experience. The lady who did my eyebrows used some blade, and made a deep cut on my forehead. When I complained that it is paining, instead of apologizing, she kept saying that 'Yes, it is bleeding a little but beauty comes with the pain'. Horrible !! She suggested a deep conditioning treatment after my color and now my hair looks so shiny and feels so soft. She has really updated my look as well, going with a bit darker color to add depth. This was my first time to avissa and I was so happy with my experience! I had a groupon for partial highlights and a haircut for an excellent value of about $60. Kimia was my stylist and she was very thorough with me about what she was going to do with my hair. I was very anxious about the color because I have only colored my hair once and she took that into consideration. After the first set of highlights she blew dry my hair and I realized I wanted more highlights. She was very happy to add more highlights and made sure I left the salon happy!! Certain hair services need to be done by a professional, and a keratin treatment is one such procedure. So, I bite the bullet and pay the big bucks$$! I have had ~20 keratins, mostly from my fantastic salon in Birmingham - keratin treatments cost quite a bit of money, but done correctly, they take 2-2.5 hours, so the cost can be somewhat justified. However, via a recommendation from my sister, I went to Avissa to get my keratin, from a stylist who allegedly does great work. I have no doubt that this young lady was well qualified, but I clearly was not in the right place at the right time. My hair was washed, and a nominal amount of keratin was added to my hair; it was then blown dry. Following the blow dry is the painstaking procedure of flat-ironing the hair, which is time consuming, and makes the treatment cost so much. Very small parcels of hair are ironed repeatedly from the scalp down to the end of the parcel of hair to seal the keratin in, so the protein penetrates in the hair. However, a random customer entered the salon before my stylist began flat-ironing my hair. It is unclear if this was a "walk-in" or they made a mistake scheduling, but my stylist told her to "return in 20 minutes". It didn't dawn on me that she meant she would be finished with ME in 20 minutes, but that she was. Instead of taking small measures of hair, the stylist took huge sections of my hair to iron, to expedite the process so she could attend to the "walk-in" customer. So, my usual 2+ hour procedure took 43 minutes here, and for $200, I won't be returning to this salon - ever. read more

I am truly baffled that I could be turned down for a service that I had explicitly made an appointment for. Came in here with a Groupon and the amount of time and care that was shown to me, truly made the experience! Normally with Groupons the people try and get you in and out seeing as they don't make much if any money off it...but in this case it was one of the best Shellac Manicures I've received!!! The only reason I gave it a four out of five is because normally they charge you a fee for removing shellac if it was not done there. I understand this is getting more common, however am not a fan. Went in for a "covid" hair cut. Did a decent job on my hair. Conversation was friendly until towards the end when the srylist began to criticize the color of my hair. I let her know that I don't dye my hair-yet. I don't feel the need to. She kept pushing telling me how odd my color was. I told her my mixed up ethnic background was the cause of my dark hair. She claimed that she had never seen such a color before in her 20 years of styling. She still wouldn't drop the subject until I finally escaped out of the booth chair. I think it was a cheap attempt to push me toward an expensive color sale. When U cashed out, the pruce U was quoted on the phone was lower than what she charged me. I tipped her and immediatly regreted it. ( their pay terminal shoves the tip option in your face while the stylist watches what you do) I left feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. Used the first time customer deal for a haircut and deep conditioning. There was hair all over the chair from the day before (early appt). Someone's used water bottle was sitting on the front desk, and still there when I checked out. My haircut was not complicated at all, but not only was the front completely messed up (haven't had bangs that short since I was 2) but also uneven. The rest was fine. I love my eyebrows because they're super dark and angular and so when trying a new place I made sure to say, "just the excess, because I like the fuller look I have". Next thing I know, I have no end of my right eyebrow, the top of my left brow is uneven, and the brows aren't close to symmetrical. Im currently, still waiting to talk to the manager after 3 hours. I have been going here for about 6 months now for Brazilians. Although I think that hot waxing is painful and I do prefer hard wax, I love coming here and seeing Shushu so much that I can't imagine going anywhere else. She is so sweet, and she makes you feel so comfortable during the process. I bought a groupon for a haircut and deep conditioning for Avissa and I would say that overall I am pleased with my experience. I wasn't going in for a big change or anything, just a trim and to make myself look a little less like cousin itt. Peyton cut my hair and she did a great job. The product that she used smelled great and I loved the way she styled it. I feel like a new woman! The overall atmosphere of the salon is very laid back, kind of like the neighborhood salon where you can go to to catch up on the latest gossip. The stylists seem to get along really well with each other, were friendly, and will chat with you like one of the girls so there isn't any of that awkward silent time while you're getting your hair cut. They charged me for style without notify me previously, 4. The hair stylist cut my hair literally within 5 mins and it does not look like I had hair cut 5. The manager was so unprofessional and very rude even though my hair was all messed up. All she was saying was I AM NOT REFUNDING OR DISCOUNT! AND YOU ARE NOT INVITED TO COME TO OUR SALON FOR THE NEXT TIME. Oh, please, I will never come to this kind of terrible place ever again The worst part was the manager being so rude! If I could give Avissa zero stars, I would. I called ahead and made appointments for my daughter and I to have eyebrow threading done. I was put on hold while the receptionist checked to make sure that they had time. There assured us they did. After driving 40 minutes to our appointment and waiting10 minutes, they told us they did not have time to fill our appointments after all. They asked us if we could drive down the next day. I explained that we had appointments and that we had driven 40 minutes but that was not a concern of theirs. I found the staff incredibly unprofessional and I would never recommend this salon to anyone for any service. read more
