I reserved a "Standard Elite Electric, Kia EV6 or similar" with Budget (part of Avis Budget Group) and specifically called a week in advance to confirm that electric vehicles would be available at this location for my rental dates. I was told they would be. When I arrived to pick up the car, there were no electric vehicles available at all. Instead, I was offered a Toyota RAV4 and told there were no other cars available. I was not offered a discounted rate, credit, or any meaningful accommodation at the counter for Budget's failure to provide the class of vehicle I had reserved and confirmed ahead of time. I did not accept the substitute rental. I had to call customer support again, and only then was I issued a full refund. While I appreciate that the refund was eventually provided, the entire experience was a complete waste of time. What made the situation even more frustrating was that the representative at the counter told me Budget's website allows customers to book vehicles that are not actually available, and that customer support also tells people certain car classes are available even when they do not actually know. This was misleading and unacceptable. I reserved an electric vehicle for a reason, confirmed availability in advance, traveled to pick it up, and still received no electric vehicle and no real solution at the counter. Budget should not advertise or confirm vehicle classes they cannot provide. Based on this experience, I would give 0 stars if possible. read more

The woman who works here is unbelievably rude! She will not wear a mask and will spit if you ask her to. The rest of us manage to do it, I don't know why she thinks she's so special. I asked her to please put on a mask so I could come inside. She refused and told me to stand outside and feeeze, it was about 20 degrees out. She wanted me to sign things, my hands were numb! The woman managing the store, or working at this time is extremely rude. She's answers the phone rudely, and is rude in store. She overcharges your card then blames the computer for the $700 charge on a $100 rental. I wouldn't recommend Avis to anyone after visiting this store, and the Avis in the Indianapolis airport. They'll have you prepay, then have nothing when you arrive. Getting a refund will take weeks or months. Go with anyone other than Avis or budget car rental. read more

I am a corporate customer, and have made several bookings here. This place is really good, if Martha is at the counter. Things get done fast. She is prompt and helpful. Never tries to make your life difficult. However, I went to pickup a car on May 14th Saturday at 11:30am, and there was this gentleman who said his name was John. This was the worst experience I have had in a while. 1. The person was rude, shouted at me when I asked for the slip to document damages on the vehicle before accepting the vehicle. 2. In addition he refused to mark genuine scratches on the vehicle, and said you record a video, I ain't documenting it. 3. When I asked for a different car in the same category this is what he said "You want to take that @ $127 per day, you think you can pay that much ?" I mean who talks to customers like this. 4. When I asked him why is being this rude, his response was, "Thank you" This is not the first time I have had a bad experience with this person who calls him self John. This person, always tries to make your life difficult. He will always try to stick you with one of their worse cars stating that the the car you want is reserved for some one else, when the other person has just reserved "a sedan" just like you did, and is not even there. Also, I noticed that this person is particularly rude to Hispanic and Indians. I have seen this on two occasions. The problem is this place is independently operated by TAMM Inc which is owned by Martha A Nevins. A genuine company operated AVIS center would never have such rude, condescending, disrespectful and racist employee. If Martha A Nevins is reading this : You have a great business running for 20 years, at a great location. Please don't allow employees like "John" ruin it. There is only upto a point people will put up with such behavior. [UPDATE] : The vehicle is now constantly flashing maintenance required within 6 hours of picking it up. If I could give zero stars then I would. I coordinated my rental ahead of time and pre-paid online so that I could take advantage of a deal/special price. I did call the location ahead of time to find out any additional information that I could possibly need for my rental. I feel bad for not getting the name of the gentleman that I spoke to; however, he failed to disclose that there would be an additional deposit needed. I wasn't prepared for that when I arrived to pick up my rental and since I didn't know ahead of time then I wasn't able to fulfill my rental and take a car that day. The lady at the location wasn't very helpful and she wouldn't refund my money and told me that I had to handle that through customer service since I booked it online. It's 3 days later and it's almost impossible to get an actual person via the 1800 number and they charged my debit card for @$60 and I'm not able to get any assistance at the branch or national level. My other issue/concern is that if my rental pick up was time sensitive, they were running WAY behind they wouldn't have had the car ready and available until almost an hour after the time that my reservation was set for. They were running so behind and they were so busy that I'm also out $20 because of Ubering since the lady at the desk at the Herndon location couldn't let one of the staff members give me a ride to my destination even though they weren't able to fulfill my rental. I will definitely NEVER do business with Avis again!! I would have had the additional deposit fee in my account had I known and been informed of that as I would have planned better and had that in my account. I really hope I'm able to get my money back since services weren't rendered. If one takes the time to do as much research as possible then it's really frustrating to be given sub/par service because of a lazy/unhelpful/unthorough staff!! read more

Let's just say their motto "our only plan is to help you keep your plan" is completely bull crap. I took the shuttle here, which took 40 min to arrive. The drive was a horrible experience too. It was bumpy and the lights kept turning on and off. Once i got at the rental, it had a pretty big line. Which wasn't really bad. But what really got me mad when there was only one person behind the counter. Each person took 10-20 min trying to get the key. Then once I finally got to the first row of the line, the guy took a 15 break to go wipe cars. This was a horrible experience and I wouldn't recommend it. It's now 2:30 am and I still have got my car, even though I arrived at 12:00 am. Which was 30 min early then my original checking in time at 12:30 am. Again I don't recommend. If the comps reads this please get more workers to help out during the night, that way it would be faster and smoother for your customers. read more

I am very pleased with renting from these fine folks. I saved a fortune versus renting from the airport location. I paid about $10 each way for a Lyft from the airport to the rental place and back. I got a really great car, saved almost half the cost of the airport rental, and avoided Washington Flyer all at the same time. That's what I call a win-win. The place is small and their hours are far more limited than the airport location. You have to take that into account. But I got a nice car that was easily as nice as anything at the airport (it's Avis, after all), and it was quick, convenient, and absurdly cheaper. The staff were friendly, too. My wife and I recently reserved and rented a car at the Avis Herndon, VA location at 1057 Elden. I had called the day of the pick up to let them know that our flight was delayed past their 2:00 p.m. Saturday closing time and that we would have to pick up the car the following day- Sunday. When picking up the car I asked the clerk if the charge was for a day less. She said no, that the 6-day charge was the same as the weekly charge. I didn't make a fuss about it. The receipt that I signed and that the clerk gave me had the $232.52 charge circled, which was the amount shown on my reservation. While I went out to inspect the car, the clerk told my wife that we were lucky because the daily rental for that intermediate car was going up from $23 to $78 per day the following day!! We returned the car 13 minutes earlier than the 6-day rental and yet a different clerk printed off a receipt that showed a charge of $255.34! I showed him my reservation and also the check-out receipt that the other clerk had circled the charge of $232.52. I told him that I was not going to pay the $255 amount, that I would pay the agreed amount of $232.52. I told him that I was not late, in fact I was 13 minutes early. He did not say a word, but was clearly irritated. He printed off a new receipt that showed a correct charge of $232.52. I took the new receipt and left. I had a great experience renting a vehicle for two days from the Herndon Avis/Budget location! Martha was very efficient, friendly, and knowledgeable - she walked me through options, told me how my Preferred status affected my rates on various vehicle classes, and made useful suggestions when I called to change. The car was clean and ready on time, rode well, and was very reasonably priced. Next time I need to rent a car I will avoid the hassle of Dulles Airport and instead go back to this location! read more

Very pleased with the car and customer service I received from Avis on Elden Street in Herndon. Martha Nevins was exceptionally accommodating when her location did not have the compact car available that I had reserved. I was in a tremendous hurry to get where I needed to go and she got me on my way FAST with a very pleasant attitude and well wishes to boot. When I returned the car, again, she was pleasant and efficient and checked me in and closed out the reservation promptly. Great service! I don't often have need to rent a car but the next time I do it will be Avis on Elden St. that I call. read more
