Worst customer service EVER!!! Our flight was 15 minutes late getting into Scranton. Several of us called ahead to inform them. They said they would wait for the flight. When we got there no one was at the desk. Most of us called Avis. We spoke to someone named Matthew. So he said. Sounded like he was drunk or just woke up. His response was 'what do you want me to do about it'. No apology. Nothing. We all had to get Ubers and go back today. I'll be escalating this to management. A smaller station for Avis, they have about two dozen parking spaces here for their vehicles. I had an Avis Preferred reservation so my arrival was only very briefly delayed while the gal at the counter checked my drivers license and handed my the car keys. All of two minutes! My Ford Fusion had 15000+ miles on it, but it was clean and drove well. As for price, they were cheaper than National though I do get to use a discount code from my employer. read more

The AVP Avis is about as good as a rental car experience gets for me. The lady behind the counter asked if I was a Preferred member as I was approaching the counter, to which I said yes. She asked for my driver's license, glanced at it, handed me the keys, and informed me that my car was in slot 40. It just doesn't get any better for a location where you have to go to the counter because there's no Preferred member board. We have places to go, and don't need or have time for the in-your-face Best Buy-esque "customer service" experience that so many rental car companies (looking at you, Enterprise) are starting to employ these days where they greet you with a sign with your name on it, walk you to your car, etc. It isn't a differentiator - it's a waste of time. Wish I could give them a 0. Rented with them before. Same way of booking, same card, same age, same place, same location. Refusing to rent to me. Explained that last time I was able to with no issues. They stated since I'm under 25 I would need a credit card. Spoke to manager via phone. Who could only say well since you went through a 3rd party their rules don't apply to us and the info online was incorrect. Was able to return with a credit card (virtual credit card but still a credit card). Was told I'm still unable to get a vehicle because they cannot physically swipe the card. Explained it's a major company, with the CC #, expiration, everything. Still unable to give me my rental. Now stranded at airport by myself. read more

"the woman behind the counter" (Karen) was terrific. She upgraded me to a car that would be easier for my elderly aunt to get in and out of. Then later, I lost my suitcase, and called the desk in desperation. She searched around and found it, called me right back, and held it until it could be picked up. Well - considering Enterprise didn't honor the car rental agreement I made WEEKS before my arrival and National had no cars - I was forced to check out Hertz - who only had very small cars and a Yaris - no can do! I ended up at the last and perhaps the best stop. They got me into a car - more expensive then my original rental, but Enterprise said they'd make up the difference - we shall see about that. As for Avis - I have a much better opinion of them and their ability to manage and take care of customers! Really nice car rental company to deal with out of the Scranton airport! read more

Wish I could give it a half of one star. We got there and waited for five minutes, when I noticed the woman who works there was out there sucking in cigarettes in front of the airport door, so before the line grew larger than two people I went outside and ask "if she worked there". I already knew she did because she was rude last time I was at Avis. She said yes "I'm out on break" rudely or I would've understood. Of course I let her know maybe she she choose another job, besides myself others have checked in and dealt with her rudeness. She called security as if I was acting out which I wasn't, I just wanted to be respected where I was paying my money! The situation was defused and then she claimed she couldn't use my method of payment, AMEX Gold which is the same one used last month. I then gave her a debit card/visa and she claims it didn't go threw....I was on the line with the bank as she tried and nothing came in on their end! If it wasn't for AMEX I'd be paying for something I couldn't get there due to someone wanting to get their way. Use another rental agency where people are respectful, needless to that's what I was forced to do and we even had a place to park for free vs the airport parking. read more

Returned my rental to this location with a FULL tank of gas and they charged me an extra $127 because they claim it was not full. Now I have to submit a credit card statement with my gas purchase to Avis to get refunded. What a shady and dishonest location! They are totally scamming people hoping they don't check so see how much they were charged. Shameful!! read more

Three months after using the AVP Avis I received a damage claim letter today from their business partner Sedgewick. They are attempting to get $9701.40 for damages done to the compact car I returned. They suggested in the letter that I send the claim to my auto insurer and my credit card company. Of course I won't do that because it would be abetting a crime! There was NO damage done to the car while I was renting it. I inspected it before and after, as is my custom. I returned it in the rain and asked the desk attendant to come verify that there was no damage. She refused because it was raining. I tried to call Sedgewick but the hold time was more than half an hour, so I hung up. Upon further online research I learned this happens to others, too. (When a was in kindergarten 50 years ago, a bully often pulled me into the closet at lunch break and threatened me if I didn't give him my snack money. The letter from AVIS and Sedgewick today reminded me that there are still kindergarten bullies looking to steal your money.) read more

This by far was a horrible experience . Everyone down the chain of command with Avis all had a different everything . I live in Florida and was traveling to penna and called around and settled with Avis / biggest mistake ever . ! I had to tent a car for approx 10 days / I was very clear about what I could spend and what was on my card . Very clear / so for the time I I was tbete I agreed on a decent solid price of 250 for everything but the last day because I was going by balance on my caRd / so for all those days the 250 was fine / but then was charged an additional 90 dollars on my card for the last two days . So 250 all together for over a week and 90 for less than 48 hrs . Over maxed my card when I was extremely clear with more than one person / everyone I talked to said my card would be refunded back to what was agreed upon . Well it never was . No one knew what they were talking about and everyone lied . When they looked into it after numerous calls all they could and would do they said was offer me a discounted rental for next time instead of refunding the money . Now why the hell would I want to tent off a company that charges your card and quotes lies . All I wanted refunded was what they said and it never happened . So if ya value what's being put in your card / don't tent a car with Avis's / they are a hot mess for a big company and obviously don't care cause I clearly said I was putting it on line with a review / oh well : their not reasonable and tHey lie all the way up chain of command I called : got no where read more

Terrible company to do business with. I was lied to about extra fees when I called this local branch. When I went to the branch in person, I was told "sometimes our "1-800" number picks up the calls and tells customers whatever they want to hear." How is that my problem? I had to call the home office and report them to get my billing situation fixed. Two weeks after it was "fixed" the local branch charged me for tolls when I didn't even use the EZPass. I strongly advise against this company. If you are in the Avoca airport, move to the next counter. And don't be fooled, Budget car rentals work with them as well. read more
