    Be wary of Lisbon Avis rental. They charged us 750 euro for a hairline scratch that was already on the car. We saw two other groups of disgruntled customers who were likely experiencing the same issue. It spoiled are vacation. You won't have time to dispute when you are trying to catch your flight. The dispute resolution at head office is a joke. They have zero respect for the customer. I would avoid Avis, particularly at this location. Other customers are reporting similar issues.

    Avis in Lisbon, at Marques Pombal, charged me over 250 Euros for this tiny knick I didn't cause. Inspect your vehicle before renting.

    Customers should be very cautious about the Avis located at Marques Pombal in Lisbon. This location of Avis tried to charge roughly 260 euros for a hairline scratch measuring roughly one centimeter long, and about the thickness of three sheets of typing paper. The attendant did not accompany me to inspect the vehicle when I picked it up, and without glasses the alleged damage would not be noticeable to most people. When I returned the car several days later, the same attendant accompanied me to do a return inspection and walked directly and purposefully right up to the trunk area to point out the alleged damage. He seemed to know exactly where the damaged area was AHEAD OF TIME and suggested that I not worry because the insurance on my credit card would probably cover the cost of the damage. I became immediately suspicious and told him so. His response was this: well, you should have checked the car more closely when you picked it up. It is almost impossible that I could have caused this damage. For one thing, I never used the trunk area. No luggage was placed into the car at any time and each evening, the car was kept in a gated area with 24 hour surveillance. The rest of the time I was responsible for this car, I was mainly driving on highways. The best explanation I have is that the tiny little scratch on this vehicle was there long before I rented it. I have used Avis many times for well over a decade, all over the world. I trust this company and that's why I keep coming back (and why I took the time to write this review). This is the first time any Avis - worldwide - has ever tried to cheat me and I hope it will be the last time. At a minimum, I hope other customers don't encounter the same experience I had - particularly if you are from out of town or less familiar with the appropriate steps to take to report a business for poor service (or, in this case, petty fraud). If you must use Avis in Lisbon, make sure to look for hidden scratches, knicks or dents - especially in less obvious parts of the vehicle. Customers should assume that the smaller the scratch is, the more likely it will be that the people at this Avis already know it is there and hope you won't notice it when you pick up the car so they can surprise you with a very exorbitant charge for damage you did not cause. The attendant I worked with seemed friendly, polished and shrewd and his behavior was practiced - suggesting my experience is probably not the first of its kind.

    Be wary of the vehicles state at pick up, they seem very happy to rent clunkers. I accepted a more than 10 bad scratches and dents on a van but did not get to test everything and worst of all the window wipers. When it actually rained the back window wiper was scraping and falling off. Forgot about it and returned the van at 5 am without anyone to talk to. Then got charged euro 150 and told that it is my fault. Got it. I used to respect Avis.

Turned around and had to return to Sixt to get a new car - waited 2 hours till they got a new car that worked. When we returned the car in 3-5-25 we had to wait 2 hours before we could return the car. They were completely backed up. We were happy to be returning the car because of the poor service from rental to returning the car. When returned home we received a bill 2 months later saying we owed another $176 - because we returned the car a day late. We have our paperwork showing on the rental agreement but they keep on saying we own them the money. We will keep fighting with them until they stop. I would never rent from Sixt again.

More importantly, TIAGO INACIO, was extremely demeaning and hurled insults at me when I advised that the stain was present at pickup. There's a reason this outfit has poor reviews. It's a thinly veiled extortion racket where they hope they can get you to pay for stuff that has nothing to do with you. And they have the worst customer service I have encountered at a car rental. If you have a choice, avoid this dumpster fire of a company. If you don't, then dedicate 45 minutes documenting even the tiniest marks on the car (inside and out). Otherwise, expect to be cheated and scammed by these guys!

    Centauro Lisbon Airport Booking Number: PR25059249 I am…read morewriting to formally express my dissatisfaction with the service I received from Centauro Rent a Car at Lisbon Airport during my recent rental experience.  I rented a vehicle from your location on Lisbon Airport on May 28, 2025 and returned it on the same location on June 6, 2025.  Unfortunately, my experience was far below the standard I would expect from a professional car rental company. Upon arrival at the Lisbon Airport office, the staff member who assisted us was noticeably rude and unhelpful. We had arrived just as the office opened, and it appeared that assisting us interfered with her plans to go for breakfast with her colleagues. She charged us an additional €209, which she explained consisted of a €100 fuel deposit (refundable if the vehicle was returned with a full tank) and €109 for the Via Verde toll system (also to be refunded upon return of the vehicle). When I questioned why the fuel deposit would only be refunded 10 days after the vehicle was returned, I was told it was due to the need to verify the fuel level and calculate charges. This explanation did not make sense to me, particularly because the Via Verde system is automatically tracked and settled, and should therefore be processed in a similar timeframe. To make matters worse, the representative gave us the wrong car key and left the office immediately with the rest of the staff. We were to turn in the car due to wrong key she gave us  or get assistance for nearly 30 minutes, as there was no one present in the office. This lack of professionalism and preparedness was unacceptable. When we returned the car, which had been refueled completely, the staff member who received the vehicle was extremely rude and dismissive. He refunded only €88.51 and refused to explain why the full €100 was not returned. Instead of providing clarification, he mocked me for accidentally saying "dollars" instead of "euros" and offered no meaningful assistance. I was on a tight schedule to catch my flight and had no choice but to leave without resolving the issue. Upon reviewing my account later, I realized that the €88.51 was not a refund of the fuel deposit at all -- it was the Via Verde refund, minus toll charges incurred during our trip. Additionally, I noticed a charge of €13.20 for tolls from our last day that appeared after the return. This amount should have been deducted from the €100 fuel deposit, meaning that I am owed a refund of €86.80. It has now been almost a moth since the return of the car, and I have yet to receive this refund. I have emailed the company several times and received only automated replies stating that the fuel deposit would be refunded within 10-12 days. I have also called the office multiple times and left voicemails, none of which have been returned. At this point, not only do I feel disappointed and frustrated by the poor customer service I experienced, but I am also still awaiting a refund that the company is obligated to process. I kindly request that Centauro immediately refund the outstanding amount of €86.80 and provide a written confirmation of this action. I hope you will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and ensure that no other customer is subjected to the same level of unprofessionalism and disregard. I hope I receive the refund they own me of €86.20 soon
