    Avis provided me a rental vehicle that broke down on me, then charged $102 to jump start even though I ended up going through my own insurance. No idea how this is ethical or legal.

    Flew to Baltimore, rented a car from Avis to drive back to California, don't ask why. Landed Baltimore at 8:30am, caught a bus to the car rental place, it was deserted. The Avis man was very friendly and helpful, except there was no paperwork. He said he'd email it to me. I was supposed to get a Toyota Camry. While I was waiting, I was freezing my ass off, the car never came. I began to think I wanted an SUV or something a little higher off the ground anyway. The outside counter woman a Phillipino lady was equally as helpful. With a snap of her fingers, she pointed out a Nissan Rogue and said, take this instead. I jumped it it, started it and cranked the heat. It was warm within 2 minutes. There were 2500 miles on the car. On my way across the country, I actually had to stop more times to clean the windshield then gas up. Also it's difficult to speed because the limit is so high as it is. The car, I discovered was a turbo charged 4 cylinder with an 8 speed automatic transmission. IT HAULED ASS!! The car made short work of all the mountain passes I had to climb. It was new, comfortable and clean. So I arrived sooner than expected, initially the car was supposed to be $1300.00 and I noticed it had changed to $1700.00 when I looked at the email. I printed it and took it with me when I turned in the car. The man behind the counter in Lake Forest adjusted the bill to $1,100.00 I was and still am very happy. I was nice starting at the Atlantic one morning, then ending the trip at the Pacific Ocean 4 days later. It was a blast

I had reserved a standard size car but was only offered full size Malibu. The car had over 55000 miles and made a very unsettling noise while driving at speeds under 50 mph. The car also smelled of smoke. Needless to say Budget and Avis will be at the bottom of my car rental list.

I'm increasing the stars for this location solely based on the experience I had with the employees Mark and Wally ( I'm so sorry if I spelled that wrong, I even asked, but it was a while ago) both gentlemen were so accommodating, I even went back to make a personal rental. I'm so appreciative to mark for making sure I left with a rental, and not making a stressful situation more stressful. They answered my numerous questions, and were patient with my need for multiple extensions. Thank you both for going the extra mile, and making customers feel heard and valued. I will definitely drive past the other hertz for this one, every time. That being said it is only going to be four stars only because I did have a recurring issue with the company having a hold on money in my account; and struggling to get it reversed in a timely matter. I was surprised when I arrived to pick up the rental that because I made the reservation within 24 hours I had to have a credit card to put down, when I only had a debit card. I also ran into a little trouble with the toll roads, hopefully someone else can learn from my mistake. I took my transponder and drove the rental car for multiple days, I didn't see it on my account, so I called The Toll Roads, hoping to make a payment and find out why the transponder wasn't working. Because the car was registered to Hertz it read the license plate and instantly charged them, despite me having a sticker transponder on the dashboard, I believe I had $40 in convenience fees over the matter. Which wasn't very convenient. That being said, a lesson was learned, and hopefully, I prevent somebody else from making the same mistake. I will add a vehicle before taking the Toll Road and I will definitely be back for Mark and Wally for my next rental needs.

Before this recent experience, I liked Enterprise Rent-A-Car, particularly for the pickups and drop-offs, and am truly appalled at what I experienced with this last rental. My most recent need to rent a car was because my car unexpectedly died. I rented a car from this Enterprise location for 3 days. The pickup was smooth, and the lady (can't remember her name) who checked me in was good to work with, similar to my previous experiences with Enterprise. However, that would be the end of the good experience. When I went to drop off the car 3 days later and asked for a ride to an auto dealership to pick up my newly leased car, Jannic told me to drive over to the dealership and they would pick it up from there, as they were too busy to give me a ride then. This was Monday, May 4. Later that same week, when I saw that my credit card was being charged more than the 3-day rental, I called that Enterprise office and got Jannic again. He said he'd call the dealership to locate the car, so that they could close out the contract. Even put me on hold to supposedly take care of that. Then, on May 14, I got an email from Enterprise asking me to confirm whether I'd be returning the car on May 15, along with over $1,000 in charges! So, I drove over to the Laguna Hills Enterprise office to attempt at settling this once and for all, as apparently calling would lead to no resolution with mounting credit card charges. What did I get? Jannic told me that he texted the dealership with no response. He called, and there was no response. He said the person with whom I left the keys didn't work there. And he insisted that he couldn't close out the contract unless he could locate the car. Yet, other than supposedly calling or texting, he wasn't going to do anything else to locate the car that he told me to drop off at the dealership! I would never have done that otherwise in a million years! Since it was clear that it'd be up to me to locate the car if I don't want to be responsible for paying for it, I drove to the dealership. Lo and behold, the car keys were there, the employee with whom I dropped off the rental keys on the day I picked up my leased car indeed works there! Right at the dealership, I called Enterprise again and got routed to an assistant manager, who apologized for the miscommunication that caused me to have to spend my time driving to the Enterprise rental office and then to the car dealership. By the way, that also costs me mileage on a leased vehicle. She promised to reverse charges for the additional days of rental and to reduce the rental charges for the 3 days I had the car to compensate for my unnecessarily horrible experience that was due to their communication failure, not any fault on my part. She said she'd call me before the end of the day. That was May 14. Guess what? It's now end of day May 15, there was no call, and the credit card charges have not been reversed! I'm left with no other choice but to spend more time and energy disputing these bogus charges through my credit card company. How does a business operate like this? Never, ever rent from Enterprise again!

When I picked up the car, it was dirty--the exterior was covered in bugs and water spots, and the interior had debris and even a gummy candy under the seat. I actually paid to wash and vacuum the car myself before our trip. I returned it this morning in much better condition than I received it, having washed and vacuumed it a second time right before drop-off. An hour after I left, the owner called to claim there was 'pet hair' inside--a common tactic mentioned in other reviews to trigger a $150+ cleaning fee. I told him I was coming back immediately. When I arrived just 7 minutes later, he was visibly caught off guard. He pointed to 3 or 4 stray hairs in the cargo area as his 'evidence.' Once I started taking photos and told him I was calling corporate to report the scam, he immediately backed down. He then absurdly claimed he 'never intended' to charge me--which makes no sense why he would call to complain in the first place. Advice: If you MUST rent here, take photos of the interior and exterior at pickup AND drop-off. He relies on people being too far away to come back and dispute these fake charges.

Since the location is on the smaller side, they did not have an associate available to pick me up so they sent a Lyft to take me to their location. I paid everything with my platinum amex.. once i didn't get either my discount or deposit i went to their office because they dont answer their phones and told them i was doing a back charge so the guy begged me not to do it.. Another guy came from the back and started coming up with nonsense charges i said show me where it says that in the contract, they couldn't show me. Told him i was doing it and with a smile he said go ahead they will Put you in to a none rental flag.. I said perfect I dont want to rent ever again from hertz and their scamming ways
