This negative review is due to a two time fail. After having a negative experience the first time, the manager Marsha Williams assured me a better experience the second time. Not only did a get a negative experience again, but I got charged tolls from another country that I did not even visit.
1) Even though the counter lines may appear short, it takes a long time to get to you. You'd think after seeing unhappy people waiting, the counter agents would maybe lessen the amount of upsell (more insurance? an upgrade for more money? gas option?) to get people through the lines.
2) The agent that brought me my car accused me of taking forever to pick up my car. Wait a minute... I was the one waiting in line. Nothing boils my blood more than being accused for something I didn't do.
3) My rental car was missing just over an eighth a tank of gas. I tried to say something, but the agent was long gone in the short amount of time it took me to get in my car. I wasn't going back to line up to tell them I'm missing gas. You know if you missed that amount, they'd be charging you.
4) Upon return of my vehicle, the agent asked if I wanted a receipt. What business traveler would not want a receipt? When I said yes, I was told to get back in line at the rental counter again. This resulted in more wait (wait to check out a vehicle, wait to get a vehicle, wait to return a vehicle, and now a wait to get my receipt).
5) Nobody from the car return agent to the rental counter could locate the car I just returned, so they just "picked" a car to return and made the dollar amounts match for my receipt. In all my careers, this is considered a "falsification of official document." My receipt shows a car I did not rent and miles I did not drive. There was over 1,000 miles on my car even though my hotel was only a couple miles from the office. My boss was wondering if I went on a road trip when I was supposed to work.
6) After avoiding posting negative feedback because I want to give the Avis manager a chance to make things right, he told me to ask for him on my next trip. He never replied to my e-mail that I was returning, and when I got to the airport, nobody could get a hold of this manager, even on his cell. I said I'll see him when I return my car. When I came back, he was still not able to help. I asked the manager on duty if she could help, but she said she didn't know what my manager had offered for assistance.
BUT WAIT, there's more!
BONUS) I was willing to forget everything because maybe Avis at BWI is just having a bad time, albeit twice. I find a toll charged to my corporate credit card. Remember how my hotel and office were only a couple miles away in Baltimore? Apparently, my toll charge was for driving through a toll road in Canada! It seems that when they gave me a receipt for a different car, they associated my credit card with that other card, so I'm incurring other people's charges.
Remember how I mentioned how I don't like being accused of something I didn't do? Now I'm being charged a toll for a road I never traveled on. Epic! This is when I decided I had to post something online. I need to warn others of this Avis location. In looking at the other reviews here, it looks like I'm not the only one. Avoid Avis at BWI. If your boss asks why you didn't choose Avis, which was cheaper, refer him/her to this feedback page. You'll be saving time and money by going with some other rental company. read more
