Terrible customer service. Charged $14.99 extra a day for my husband to drive. I was told it would $14.99 extra NOT per day. Ridiculous. When I called to have these charges removed they would not. This is the only company to ever charge me for my spouse to drive. The car had low tire pressure and we had to add air to them. Also the low engine oil warning came on as we drove off the lot. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I left my wallet in the rental car -- I knew exactly where it was. I realized it less than 10 minutes after returning the vehicle and tried to call right away. You'd think that would be plenty of time to grab it before the car went anywhere, right? Nope. Instead of being allowed to speak to anyone at the actual rental car location, I was told to fill out a generic lost and found form. No phone number, no way to contact the branch directly. I called the main line begging for help -- literally begging -- and the guy refused to transfer me to the location. After five minutes of pleading, he finally said he'd "call himself," but of course there was no answer. We had just gotten married the day before and were supposed to leave for our honeymoon in two days. The stress this caused is unbelievable. It's now been three days, no update, no email, no voicemail -- nothing. That car is definitely rented to someone else by now, and who knows where my wallet is. The lack of urgency, accountability, and basic human empathy here is beyond disappointing. This isn't just poor customer service -- it's a total failure of common sense. I really like using SIXT Rental car company whenever I have the opportunity. Nearly all of the employees have been incredibly nice at all of their locations. I almost always use them when flying into BWI airport. They are usually similar in price or just a little bit higher than the other national brands but they offer much nicer vehicles for the money. Other than having to take a moderately long shuttle bus ride to and from the airport to get your car (which is the same for all rental car companies at BWI), it's fantastic. Once at the rental car building, the counters are nearby and the cars are a short walk from the counters. They often will offer me a choice of upscale vehicles to choose from and occasionally an upgrade. If it's important to you to drive a nice car / SUV / etc when away from home, then SIXT is a great choice for you. I will definitely be renting from them again. read more

I am writing this follow-up to clarify that my previous frustrations with my Sixt rental had absolutely nothing to do with the on-site agents or management. In fact, the staff and the manager were the only highlights of an otherwise disappointing situation. The Human Element: The local manager reached out for a follow-up call, and I was struck by her honesty and vulnerability. She was professional, empathetic, and respectful; more importantly, I felt genuinely heard and seen. It was clear she felt a personal responsibility for the brand's failure to live up to its commitment to me. The staff on the ground are doing their best, but they are being set up for failure by the system they work within. The Corporate Issue: This is an industry-wide problem where poor marketing tactics are used to reel in customers, only for the "fine print" or lack of inventory to leave people stranded. It makes the brand appear unreliable and untrustworthy. I've experienced this before--being stranded in Texas with a family of five and a mountain of luggage after pre-paying for a large SUV, only to be told "check back tomorrow" or "try another company." It is unacceptable for a brand to take a customer's money and commitment but offer no accountability when they can't fulfill the reservation. Customer service is awful. Was charged added insurance when chose to opt out when reserving vehicle. Employee who checked me in (Zachary) added it and was charged for it. Then was charged $53 for fuel when I filled up prior to leaving my hotel in Edgewood (25 miles from car rental). Spoke to the manager, Ray, and he was less than helpful. I travel frequently and never used Sixt before. Needless to say this is the last time. With so many other car rental options that provide far superior customer service, not sure why anyone would want to use Sixt. To be fair, this is specific to Baltimore Airport. I'd like to share a recent recent rental car experience with your Sixt. The vehicle (BMW 328i) was picked up at Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) and returned to Nashville International Airport (BNA). When I arrived at BWI, it was after 11:00 p.m. I was offered an upgrade to a BMW for a small additional fee, which I accepted for my one-way rental. Upon driving the car out of its parking space, but before leaving the garage, I decided to inspect it for pre-existing damage. Given the poor lighting, I used my phone's flashlight to perform the inspection and quickly noticed multiple areas of damage, including: Numerous scratches across the vehicle Curb Rash on wheels The front tow hook cover missing Paint discoloration and stains on the hood Scratches on the passenger-side rear quarter panel and bumper Overall, the car appeared to be in very poor cosmetic condition and likely should not have been rented in that condition, but I just needed transportation back to Nashville and mechanically it seemed to function fine. I attempted to document the damage by scanning the QR code on my receipt and uploading photos through your app, but the process failed several times due to poor lighting and app issues. I then located an attendant who confirmed, on her device, that the vehicle already had extensive prior damage documented and assured me that I was "good to go." Upon returning the car at BNA, I informed the drop-off attendant about my experience at pickup and suggested that the car be removed from service for proper repairs. Today, I was surprised to receive a notification from your company alleging a new scratch on one of the wheels and holding me responsible. I want to be clear that I did not cause that damage. I submitted your online form but it would not allow enough room for the appropriate narrative that I have provided in this email. As a lifelong car enthusiast who personally maintains a personal collection of 10-12 vehicles including BMWs, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi, I take exceptional care of every vehicle I drive. In fact, I consistently return rentals in equal or better condition than when received. Given the extensive preexisting damage and documentation acknowledged by your BWI staff. I think it's horrible that accompany. Your size only has a damage management team that works on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 12 PM to 8 PM. SCAM!!!! Do NOT rental a car from Sixt. I travel a lot for work and use rental cars almost every time I travel. I used Sixt for the first (and last!) time in my life. They had the best prices and reported 'skip the line' pick up, but of course their website was down and I had to wait in line. Whatever, it happens. I picked up my car rental from BWI on 8/17, dropped off 8/21, total of 107 miles driven the entire time I had the car. Only commuted locally, didn't have any issues. I dropped the car off, do inspection and get an email same day saying 'no new damage found'. Cool! 7 days later, I get an email saying that actually damage was found and they want me to pay $1300!!!!!! WTF?! Supposedly, two big scratches on the bumper and passenger side. Sooooo your telling me this was magically found 7 days after I dropped the car off?! Despite the return receipt stating 'no new damage' found. I have been on hold with their 'customer service' multiple times but to no avail. The are actually trying to scam me. My employer is reaching out to our attorney to to discuss next steps. I will NEVER rent from them again. Now, looking at the reviews, I'm not the only one this has happened to. Do yourself a favor and avoid SIXT AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!! There was no walk-around inspection or photo review at pickup or drop-off, both times it was completely dark, and no employee was present. Days later, Sixt contacted us claiming we owe $1,000 for a 5-10 cm scratch they "found" after the fact. We know with absolute certainty that we did not damage the car in any way. The alleged mark is the kind of faint surface scuff that could be buffed out with rubbing compound for under $10, yet Sixt is treating it as major body damage. For context, I've rented exclusively from Hertz for over 20 years and never experienced anything like this. Hertz and other reputable companies conduct transparent inspections and do not charge for small cosmetic scratches. I chose Sixt this time because their rate was lower and while facing a personal move while we are also in a government shutdown and not receiving paychecks, I mistakenly chose what I thought was a more economical option. A decision I now regret completely. The "cheaper" price turned out to come with hidden fees and questionable post-rental charges. Thankfully, my insurance is stepping in to handle the claim. The AmEx team told me they hear frequent complaints from their members about similar issues with Sixt, which says a lot. They said that they use an AI tool to scan for damages and that it is possible that the AI assessment can vary greatly depending on the light and angel of the tool they are using. Hertz doesn't even charge for small scratches or small dents. In short: ·       No inspection or documentation process at pickup or return. ·       Surprise $1,000 damage claim for a superficial scratch. ·       Multiple hidden charges (even for adding a spouse as a second driver). ·       Customer service that feels completely one-sided and unaccountable. I understand Sixt is still building its U.S. presence, but this experience has permanently damaged my trust and I hope by sharing my experience I can shield others from being similarly taken advantage of. I'll be returning to Hertz, where transparency, fairness, and professionalism still mean something. Recommendation: Avoid Sixt unless you want to spend weeks disputing charges for damage you didn't cause. What could improve? How about their business ethics and practices. After renting, I was billed for damage to the car the company claimed I caused. Highly unlikely given the nature of my trip (parked in private driveways, paved roads, etc.). I called their claim center, which offered no support but did explain the charges would go to a collection agency if not paid. I've reached out to an attorney for advice. Do not rent from these people. They will screw you over royally as they did me. Went there to BWI to pick up car on time and the agent was a total ass hole. He would not answer my one question on what the process was to pick up the car. Then asked for my credit card and I asked why. I had already paid via Expedia, and had confirmation of reservation. The agent then decided he didn't likeme and cancelled my reservation. They will not refund my money and Expedia caught in the middle appears to want to be powerless to insist I be reimbursed. I do not plan to ever use Expedia again and, as for Sixt,,,, go elsewhere. They are horrible! read more

Hard sell on the insurance so I agreed to $11 a day for $500 coverage... now 4 days later getting a bill for $22 for "deep 10cm scratch on steel rim" I didn't hit anything and much less road debris... I guess now it's my word against Deric F. Before getting in car at bwi I reviewed 6 different scratches in each quadrant of car.. I guess the keep you busy so you won't notice ... Deric didn't mention scratch when I drove back to return and I wasn't in a hurry that day... why? So take note and take pictures of all wheels ... never again ... I've used Sixt numerous times each with its own issue. For some reason I thought that this time would be different. Upon picking up the rental car the attendant claimed with rented an EV which was certainly not the case due to the amount of distance to be traveled on our vacation. However, we could not find an email showcasing the car that we planned to rent. This forced an upcharge for an automatic transmission fuel required vehicle. Once we were ready to go we were handed our keys and told that our car was in the basement parking garage in the Hilton hotel in Vienna Austria. No one from Sixt accompanied us to our vehicle to pre-inspect the vcar before we departed so I photographed the car's current state and we left. We returned the car 2 weeks later in Cologne Germany, We stopped in the office to being the return process and we were shown the garage entrance again and sent on our way. When we got to the appropriate area for drop off there was no one present, just needed to drop the keys in a drop box. Again, no one reviewed the vehicle with us or signed off on it. I did not take pictures at return because there was no damage to report. I have the original pictures to dispute any false claims. HOWEVER, damage occurred to the vehicle after we dropped it off and i am now being charge $2003.00 EU for damage that we did not create. I am attempting to dispute but it is impossible to speak with someone in the claims department. I've alerted my credit card but I am fearful that with you photo proof (since damage occurred later) that I am somehow going to be held responsible. This company is super shady and I will alert anyone who i know is traveling to stay as far away from Sixt as possible. They are crooks! read more

I would like to start off by saying they did not have our exact car that we reserved for. Now in order to have the vehicle we wanted we had to pay for the upgrade but doesn't make sense bc we had already reserved it. Now whatever we paid it and boom we got a notification that tire pressure was low. The car was not smooth it was so bumpy so we had to bring it back. We asked for our money back from the upgrade and said that they couldn't. Waste of time and where was the customer service? This BWI location lets you prepay and book cars only to tell you the class you paid for is no longer available and force you to either pay for an upgrade which isn't cheap by any standards or walk away. I rent cars very often and never experienced this before. Every other place I rent from will give you what they have available if they can't accommodate your reservation. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. Haven't even finished my rental with Sixt from the BWI location but it is already an abysmal experience. Horrible customer service at the desk, where the person behind the desk was trying to get me to add on extremely excessive coverage more than doubling my overall reservation price, and real explanation of why a military discount was not available at that time. They also said they did not have the car I had reserved, but then when I walked to the car they gave me, there were a few of what I had originally reserved right there on the lot. I gave an honest review and feedback on the initial feedback survey emailed to me, then around mid-day the next day a customer service representative from that location called to inquire about the negative feedback (I was happy to explain). Then, that same day 9:30 pm (YES, AT NIGHT), a different customer service representative from that same location called to inquire yet again about the feedback, but had no idea that the other phone call had happened. This obviously indicates that they do not keep good tabs on operations/interactions with customers, they do not care enough to inform their coworkers, and those coworkers find it acceptable to call about something like this LATE at night. Now just holding on to see how the turn-in goes. Overall, so far, Terrible. Horrible. Never again. read more
