I had a reservation for an intermediate car. I Uber'd over only to be a victim of bait and switch. They didn't have the car I reserved available. They only had vans and SUVS for an additional $24 per day. I asked for a smaller car and again was told no I have to pay $24 additional per day. I was in an automobile accident over the Labor Day weekend. Definitely not a restful weekend. Stress!!Everything was closed, but this Avis was open till noon on Labor Day. We called and then went in. The lady helping was not the friendliest but not the worst. Roxy I think was her name. She rung us up..it was almost $60 a day for a Civic!! So she sends us to the back, not bring us the car but tells us to go through the fence...we do and the car is a mess...the guy looks at us and says "do you want me to clean it? Yes, I answer and he tells me it will take twenty minute. I think he was trying to dissuade me. I tell him I still want it cleaned. He obviously does not want to...he says wait inside. Literally 5 minutes later...it's "clean" and ready and he brings it to the front. Fast forward two days, I return the car a day early because my insurance wants me to use a different rental place. My original bill was $190 for 3 days. I returned it a full day early. Different woman at the counter. She rings me up and says it will be $143...I was a bit surprised. I ask her what was the daily rate? I said it was about $60..without answering me she starts typing on her computer...then all of a sudden, I now have a new total..$127...interesting! She never explained why it was different.. probably gets away with it on other occasions..so sneaky how they try to charge more if they can.. Will not ever use this place again!! read more

I'm lucky to have this Avis rental location close to my home. I can walk there it rent a car and the service has been great. This location does have shorter hours then some locations. I had made my reservation online. I did receive a call telling that the type of car I wanted wasn't going to be available for me. They did had a different type of car if I wanted it. When I went in to pick up the car, they had found the type of car I had wanted The paperwork didn't take long and I was off on my way. When I took the car back. It's was a quick process. I have rented from this Avis location for years. It is very close to where I live so really appreciate them being there. Always had great and friendly service. Hours at this location are shorter than say the airport but you work around it. Other parts of the country that I have rented Avis cars also have shorten hours at smaller locations too. I book my cars online and see what operating hours are for that location. I try to book a day before when I really need a car because I know at smaller places, if a renter is suppose to return a car but extends their contract, there may be no car available for me. So it may cost me an extra rental day but I can handle that for the convenience of this location. read more

I recently rented a car from this location while my car was in the shop. It was my first time renting a car so I didn't know what to expect. Roxy was so helpful. She didn't try and sell me anything I don't need. She rented me a brand new Kia K5. The car was so nice I want to buy one now. She even sanitized it for me before I got in. This review is linked to this specific location, not to Avis itself. Most of my Avis experiences have been great, except at this one location, which I believe is a separately owned franchise. We arrived on a Sunday at our reserved time, only to find that they had no car for us, despite that we made a reservation online several weeks prior, and received two confirmation emails. The manager, Roxy, alleged that she had tried to reach us. We indeed had two missed calls (one from the day before, and one from the earlier on Sunday), but they were not marked as from Avis in the Caller ID, so we did not pick up. They did not try to email us, nor did they leave us a voicemail. (Roxy tried to place the blame on us, stating that our phone did not allow voicemails, which is a lie as we routinely receive voicemails for work). Roxy did not offer us any solution to a mistake they created -- we had to prompt her to call other Avis locations for us, which she halfheartedly did, to no avail. Finally, I called Avis myself, and they managed to find us a car at the airport nearby. We had travelled all this way to this location, only to find out that they had no car (despite our confirmed reservation); we had to spend time calling Avis ourselves and then travelling again to the airport to pick up the car from the other Avis location. Their lack of organization and shoddy customer service created a delay in our schedule of about 2 hours. I urge you to avoid this Avis as you might wind up in the same predicament as us -- you might not find out until you get there that they do not have a car for you despite that you reserved one! read more

Their card reader could not read my credit card and the girl behind the counter was blaming my AMEX card, so I gave her a Visa card, couldn't read it either, SO SHE WOULD NOT RENT ME A CAR. Wow worse car rental to date! We've been coming to this location for the past three or four times that we've rented for a our road trips. Upon returning our most recent one week rental that we took across the state, the staff told us that they needed to charge us extra because there were "too many bugs" on it. Seriously!? What did they expect and how ridiculous is that? 1) The car has been rented for a week and driven across the state, surely they expect to get a semi dirty car. 2) This is why they are supposed to wash car rentals in the between customers anyway. By the way, when we picked up our car a week ago, they made us wait because they claimed that the car was being "washed". I doubt it because when we got the car it was dusty on the inside and out and the windshield itself already dirty to the point that we had to clean the it at a gas station during our trip north. My bad for not checking the reviews ahead of time, but I was in a hurry, and lesson learned: CHECK THE REVIEWS! The woman who helped me at the counter was great, professional, polite. I have no complaints about her at all. My issue is with the practice of adding additional terms and conditions to a rental contract that seem to be specific to this location. After providing my personal information and initialing the appropriate places on the contract, the Avis representative proceeded to stamp two additional clauses on the contract to be initialed; she then even changed one of these with her pen!!! These additional terms and conditions are not part of regular Avis policies--especially when they have to be added to a standard contract. Is it acceptable to Avis that locations go rogue? I don't know, but I do now know that when I rent from Avis I have no idea what the actual terms of the rental contract will be until l am at the counter, wasting my time. For reference, these are the additional terms and conditions you will be subject to if you rent from this location (capitalization is theirs): "CUSTOMER NOTICE $10.00 Extension Fee applies per Extension. $10.00 Late Fee will apply per day. I have always used Avis for my trips and had great experience. However today when I returned the car the front receptionist was very unprofessional. She claimed I smoked in the car even though I didn't. There was no smell at all. I mentioned no one smoked in the car but she was as very aggressive and said she knows I smoked. When i let her know that I needed a high clearance vehicle & a 4wheel drive for my trip to Sedona, not only did she deliver, she went above and beyond. My husband and I rented a car from this location when we came in from Arizona to visit family. Niery and Roxy were so accommodating and sweet. I experienced a horrible customer service today (Sat May 23) at the Fullerton Avis location on East Orangethorpe. I was talking to the manager (as what she stated she is) I believe her name is Nyree (I am not sure of the spelling, just what i heard) First, I got a car last Sunday by reservation and by the time I showed up at the location, they gave me the SUV 6 seats instead of the 4 seat-car that I reserved. I did not like it because it would be a waste of gas since the 2 of us was going to drive a 3000 mile trip. I was ok with the car because they said it was the only car they had at that moment. Second, the car was dusty inside and bugs were all over the front and on the windshield that I had to bring it to the car wash right down the street because I could not see clear in order to drive. I knew that the car was just returned and was poorly vacuumed just before I arrived. I was totally fine because I understand this Covid time was hard (most of the locations are closed) and because the lady who helped me was really nice so I think I could just do it myself. However, by the time I got home I noticed the wiper fluid tank was empty. Also, the sticker on the windshield showed the car needed service at 14,000 miles while the car was at 17,000 miles already. I felt unsafe since I had to drive a 3,000 miles trip so I tried to call the Rental office to see if they had any other options for me but it was closed right after I left. I called customer service and they said that was FINE (but of course it will damage your car engine!). I was nice enough to bring the car to 2 auto shops to try to get an oil changed but they said they do not have the kind of oil because of the latest car model (2020). I had no other choice but ended up starting my trip with a hope that I could find any Avis location along the way to exchange for another smaller car but all of them were close. That was my experience getting the car. The drama was when I brought the car back today and got served by "the manager". I intentionally returned the car without washing it. I have done a lot of road trips in the past and I know what condition of the car to be returned. She said she could not accept the dusty car. I was trying to explain that I had received a car that was not clean at the beginning. They even noticed in my contract that there were bugs all over the front. She said bugs are ok but not a dusty car. To be honest, this was my first time ever returned a dirty car back to the rental office (I was driving under the snow weather). I told her that I could bring the car to wash myself but she has to reimburse for my first wash. Like there is no way I wash the car twice one before and after, that is not fair for me. She told me that she never asked me to wash the car in the first place, and that I could just drive to any gas station to clean the windshield myself. When I mentioned I was not happy when I got the car (bugs, SUV, and oil change) she responded I should be thankful because she did not charge me for the upgrade, which i did not asked for. She expects us to thank her because she had no other car to give us but a car that was just returned to and poorly cleaned. She also said that I should feel lucky because I did not have to drive somewhere else even though I had made reservation. She said she could spend all day arguing with me but it would not go nowhere. I'm sorry but she was rude and unprofessional as a manager. I did customer services too and I acknowledge that this is the right time to say sorry (at least for the fact that I did not receive a car in an acceptable condition?) I did not ask for any discount but at least meet me half way (pay for one of the car wash even it is just a couple bucks to show that you understand the situation and value your customers). She did not even say sorry for once but kept telling me that she was doing me a favor or she would charge me $250 for the cleaning fee. I felt the conversation was going nowhere so in the end I run the car through a washing machine only to wash the exterior and brought it back and she was ok with it. According to Avis Rental Terms and Conditions, I will be charged cleaning fee if only the car's interiors could not be washed by standard procedure not mentioning anything about the exterior. This is unacceptable to expect your customers to do the cleaning so you can do less work. I was sorry because I know I returned the car with unacceptable condition just to let her know that that was the condition they gave it to me. I'm telling you, driving a long road trip under raining and snowing weather with empty wiper fluid and the oil service past due was not fun at all. It was nothing for me to spend extra time and money but I was disappointed with how the manager at this brand handle this situation. read more

I wish I would have read the reviews prior to going here. I thought I was getting a good deal as it was much more inexpensive than my other car that I rented for less time, the week prior, out of state. I just really didn't think about what could go wrong. Right away when you enter the business you notice that it is disorganized and dusty. It doesn't look like it's been cleaned in years. (Not sure how I ignored this. SMH.) the representative was friendly enough and I don't really have any complaints about the customer service. She let us know that we would be getting an "upgrade." I said "cool" and wasn't really sure what that meant. I guess it was considered upgrade because we got a Camry v. a Ford Focus? Anyway, I was in a hurry because I had a baby shower to go to right after so I kind of rushed home without really looking inside the car. During my drive I noticed a really disgusting smell. It smelled like wet dog which I thought was weird because pets are not allowed and also was caught off guard because they made sure to emphasize a "cleaning fee" if you don't empty your trash. When my husband finally got to ride in it he commented on the smell then looked around and noticed the inside wasnt clean at all. The center console had crumbs and dirt. There was soda or coffee or some kind of brown liquid splashed on the passenger side door and someone left their hair accessory in the car. We were pretty disgusted and I had to put two air fresheners which really didn't even mask or make the smell much better. When I called they were already closed as they close pretty early on weekends and or road trip was the very next day early in the morning so we wouldn't even be able to exchange it for us on time. I talked to the 24hr customer service and they suggested we go to John Wayne, but again we had no time to do that. There was also no way to guarantee a reimbursement is we were to have the car cleaned and/or shampooed ourself. We were stuck with a stinky car for four days so I learned my lesson to make sure I inspect the inside more thoroughly with the rep before driving off the lot, and not ignoring little things because I'm rushing. When I returned the car I tried to convey my disappointment and the lady did seem to sympathize with me but I'm not really sure she understood that it was a bad experience because of something so small that they should have had covered. I would have much rather had a car that was dirty on the outside than in, or a cheaper model. read more

Background: My parents picked up an Avis rental at LAX that I had reserved for them. It was the first time my dad was using his Avis preferred membership. The lady who released the car to my parents didn't review anything about gas, insurance, or even accompany them to the car. Eager to leave LAX, my dad didn't realize the gas tank was less than half full til he left the lot. He didn't think much of it at the time. When we returned the car at this Orangethorpe Avis, my dad made sure the gas was approximately where he found it, slightly below midline. Perhaps that's what "G8" means for fuel level, we had no idea. After waiting 40 minutes (they are WAY understaffed), the lady at Avis said we needed to bring the car back with a full tank. We tried explaining the situation to her. She didn't care, she repeatedly said that we signed and agreed to the contract. None of us recall signing anything. I kept asking her WHERE does it say we agreed to this, she just kept pointing to the receipt. We told her we are not blaming her for the mistake, but that we feel cheated that we have to fill up more than what we were originally given. She REPEATEDLY said it was our fault for not asking the person who gave us the rental at LAX, REPEATEDLY stating that we should know that "G8" means full tank, REPEATEDLY stating we signed something. She apparently didn't care that we already prepaid $1466.33 on this rental, she said we either go full up the tank or pay $10 a gallon. We asked if there was anyone we can speak with or file a complaint, she said no. I am a small business owner, and this type of horrible customer service would never be ok at my business. We ended up leaving to fill up the tank since this wasn't getting anywhere. Between my dad and I, we spend thousands of dollars on rentals, about 4-8 weeks of rentals yearly. Trying to save a few dollars I decided to reserve a truck here the night before. I arrived here 25 minutes early and was told I'd have to wait as the truck was being delivered here from Norco. Okay I can deal with that. I stood off to the side to wait my 25 minutes while she helped other people entering the establishment. The designated time came and went with not a word from Roxie, the woman who was working the counter, as to why. She helped two other customers after my designated time without a word to me. 15 minutes past my scheduled pickup I left and ended up going with U-Haul.
