The car was filthy inside and bugs and smears all over the outside and inside of the windshield.

The lady at the rental counter screwed up my rental. She tacked on all the additional insurances after I told her not to. She told me she added AAA and she didn't. She had my return location wrong. Everything about this rental experience was horrible. I wish I had her name to make a formal complaint. The car she rented me was filthy and had a tooth pic and crumbs in the interior. There were bugs and smears all over the windshield. The car was not clean at all. The guy at the gate gave me a gas voucher whiptee do. I overpaid for a eew rental and had to waste 15minutes on the phone making the drop off location correction. Bonus wire sticking out from key ring when you grab the keys. Go somewhere else and spare yourself the headache and money.

Honestly the reviews about the waits are real, it took about 20 minutes to get through the line at 12am even with a reservation. I attempted to check my vehicle out via the App but the vehicle I pre-paid for wasn't showing as available. So I waited through the line where I was greeted by Elorite Titus who was absolutely awesome to work with. He definitely made the wait well worth it, his personality was friendly and welcoming, he made sure the car I selected was available, and he even went above and beyond to check how much charge the EV had left. When he noticed the car only had a 20% charge he offered multiple other recommendations. Elorite Titus is truly the highlight of this location!

I booked the reservation on the Enterprise website and it allowed me to make the reservation for 5:00pm. When I landed in Chicago with all of my luggage I took a taxi to the Enterprise location that was away from the airport location. The location was closed. What I don't understand how the company would allow me to make a reservation for a time that they knew very well that they were going to be closed for. So I was forced to rent a car with another company for the night for much more money due to super late notice. Then I drove back an hour to the location to return my current rental car and pick up the enterprise car that I had my reservation for. I returned my temporary rental car I had for the night and then proceeded with a taxi to the enterprise location just to find that they told me that they didn't have a car for me. I was left going with another rental company for a second time and having to wait 3 hours before I could get a car. I spent $875 for my rental car for 5 days all because Enterprise decided to not honor the reservation that they gave me. If there is one question I have it is WHY WOULD ENTERPRISE GIVE ME A RESERVATION WHEN THEY DONT RESERVE ANYTHING FOR ME?! I am all the way across the country from my home and stuck stranded in Chicago without any transportation because enterprise decided to LIE to me about giving me a reservation. Yes that is called LYING. If that isn't lying then IDK what is. My experience with Enterprise was horrendous. I wouldn't recommend using them to anyone. Stay away from this company. If Enterprise wants to contact me and make this situation right then I would have open ears to hear what they have to offer. Otherwise I will never use their company again and will not recommend anyone else does either.

Very Disappointing Experience -- Beware of Hidden Restrictions and Fees…read moreMy husband and I have used Expedia extensively for many trips, so we were especially disappointed with our experience booking a rental through Expedia with Routes Car Rental. The rental initially appeared to be a good deal, but important restrictions and fees were not made clear before we booked. The "Rules and Regulations" link on Expedia was blank, so we had no way to review these terms in advance. After picking up the car, we received an email informing us that we had been charged a $104.49 border-crossing fee simply because our lodging was about five miles across the Illinois state line. This was a significant surprise and something we believe should have been clearly disclosed before the rental was booked. We also learned only after pickup that the rental had a 200-mile-per-day mileage limit, with an additional charge of $0.20 per mile over the limit. Based on our trip, exceeding that allowance could have added more than $400 to the rental cost. Getting to the Routes location was also inconvenient. We had to take a train and then a shuttle, adding roughly 40 minutes to the trip, and then waited more than an hour before reaching an agent. After receiving notice of the additional charges, we called Expedia directly to try to resolve the situation. Expedia attempted to contact Routes while we were on the phone, but was unable to reach anyone and left a message. We were told to expect to hear back within a few days. Neither Expedia nor Routes ever followed up with us. What has been most disappointing is that this experience has shaken our confidence in Expedia. We have used Expedia extensively over the years and have generally trusted the information presented when making our travel arrangements. In this case, important rental restrictions and potential charges were not clearly accessible before booking, and when we contacted Expedia about the problem, the issue was never followed up on. After this experience, we will think twice before relying on Expedia for future rental car bookings.

Since the Alamo counter was closed, we were redirected to the National counter where the staff was incredibly friendly. We were even given an additional discount as the rates were much better for the July 4th weekend, and we had booked our trip 1 or 2 months ago when the rates were high. That was a great way to start a trip. Overall the vehicle was great and fun to drive especially being new it had the assisted driving (ADAS) which made the long drive relaxing. There was a small windshield crack (under an quarter of an inch barely visible), and while their policy only requires reporting damage over two inches from prior experiences, I made them note it on the record before I took the vehicle from the lot just to be on the safe side. Returning the car was a breeze, just drove straight in, unloaded our bags and off to catch a plane

These guys are the case study in customer service and professionalism. I've rented plenty of cars while traveling, and this Alamo location set a new standard. I'll absolutely be using them again the next time I'm flying through Chicago. Highly recommend!

Needed a car to rent for twelve days for my wife and me during our 10 day upper Midwest road trip…read more Decided to spurge a bit to get a nicer car, and surprisingly found the Hertz at O'Hare to have the best price for an airport rental of a luxury mid-size SUV (Volvo XC60 or comparable) at $572.32. I booked directly with them and there was no mention of additional charges collected at time of rental, just that it had to be prepaid and was non-refundable. We had the last Delta flight from LAX to ORD so my wife, her mom, and I got into Chicago around midnight. The Airport Transit System (train) will take you to all the terminals and multi-modal facility where all the rental car agencies are. Terminal 5 is the last stop before it, and the train cars were pretty full by the time it came to us, even this late. We had to abandon our luggage cart, and hand-wheel our luggage, finding space. I've been a member of the Hertz Gold program for a while, back to my corporate days, and knew to skip the rental counter and go directly to the garage to see my name in lights. It didn't matter since, the main rental counters were all closed this late at night, so everyone had to go to the garage. Sure enough, my name was listed, but instead of showing where I could pick up my car, it said to see the counter attendant. There was only one person there, and there was a line. Once it was my turn, it turned out the car wasn't ready for us. I think they don't want to have the XC60 for others to choose, so they had to get it 'from the back'. It didn't take very long to do that, and everyone was perfectly civil about it. However, they hadn't checked me out, so when we got to the gate to leave, we had to do the checkout process with the attendant (she was not happy since someone before hadn't their job). We went through a car scanner which recorded the outside condition of the car. As for the trip, I was really happy with the car. It had some of the most comfortable car seats I've ever used (fully adjustable for both upfront seats, with lumbar support) and the back seats were heated. The power moon roof was so large, though we couldn't use it much open since it was hot and sunny during our trip. It also surprisingly didn't have wireless Apple Play, so had to find a USB-C cable, and then it worked fine with Navigation and Spotify. It was a really good trip, and the SUV had a lot to do with that. Bringing the car back, once you got close to O'Hare, it was important to follow the signs for rental car return, vs following the directions on Google Maps. We passed through a similar car scanner when we entered the lot. We didn't have to wait for anyone to check us out, just leaving the keys on the dash. For once, we didn't forget anything in the car. We got an itemized bill by email in a couple of hours. We took the train back to Terminal 5. A couple of days later, we got another email saying that the car had been returned with no damage. However, they also charged the additional money as well, so I opened up an incident to explain the charge. We'll see where that goes. Stats: 10 states visited (IL, WI, IA, MO, KY, TN, AR, MS, OH, IN), missing two of the Mississippi River States (MN, LA). 7 gas stations visited on trip, $294.20 spent, 72 gallons used, 2,133 miles driven.

The rude dude clearly didn't want to be there, and wasn't willing to listen to anything the customers had to say/ask. Didn't actually leave the lot with a working vehicle until 4:30 PM -- 2.5 hours later. The check-in agent, Liam, told us the car was only held for 1 hour and had already been given away -- I watched him hand our reserved vehicle (a GMC Acadia) to the customer in front of me. He said Sixt had "no obligation" to hold cars and that we should be thankful they didn't cancel outright. He also quoted $4.99/gal for the prepaid fuel option, claiming it was a discount off a local station price of $5.30/gal -- every gas station we actually passed was $4.30/gal or less. We were then sent to space C1 with no key there, waited 45+ min in a separate key line with only one staff member working, and after my 23-weeks-pregnant wife had already loaded our bags (with our 22-month-old in tow) into the C1 car, another customer told us it was theirs -- we had to unload/reload everything ourselves, no staff helped. The branch manager, Ernesto M., showed up near the end, raised his voice at me, took zero responsibility ("I just got here"), and said nothing could be done because I'd booked through a 3rd party. I also had trouble getting through to Sixt customer service during all this -- they told me the branch wasn't picking up their calls either. Also questioned why we needed my wife's marriage license/passport just to add her as a driver since her license doesn't share my last name -- not a documented requirement, just an added hassle. Avoid this location if you can. Nothing about this was handled professionally.
