I booked for rav4 or similar becuz I need trunk that could fit my mothers wheelchair also suv is easier for her to get in and out than a car after her hip surgery. Whrn I pick up they said I have Camry. I said I need suv for above reasons. Well that is gonna cost u $15 more per day. Originally I booked the cost was $349. After I drop it off yes few hours over time I picked up it was now $575. Last time I will ever use Avis. I have used them dozens of times before and always loved the experience. Protect yourself and do not rent from this place. I rented a car from them 06/30. They gave me the crappiest rental car I have ever had - a late model Mustang that smelled. As I was walking out the guy behind the counter let me know the "door was a little funny". Clearly this car had previous damage repaired because while there was no physical damage. The door would stick when opening. I returned the car the next day with their drop off service - no damage done! A month later I am getting calls and letters from their attorney asking for me to pay $1300 in repairs and fees. I have reported this to the Attorney General's office. read more

Guy at the front desk didn't know anything. Refused to give me my USAA discount just because he didn't understand what to do. He gave me the number to customer service who then told me I could only get the discount at the desk...once again this man would not do it. I had to use a rental while my car was repaired. Had a reservation but when I got to the Seatac Facility there were only 2 Avis agents at the desk and a line of over 60 people. I waited for 2 hours then bailed because I was not even close to getting helped. It is outrageous that customers are not informed of the astronomical wait times. I never thought I would give a good review to a rental car company! I got a one-way rental at Bellingham Airport (dropping off at SeaTac Airport). First and foremost, the rate was amazing. Because they had so many cars up in Bellingham, one-way rental to Seattle was very inexpensive. Also, I used my American Express and saved 3%. Pick-Up The agent at Bellingham Airport was professional and very kind. Of course, he tried to sell me an upgrade, a collision coverage, etc that any rent-a-car agent would do. I declined all of those, and he was cool about that. Instead, he gave me a free upgrade since they had lots of cars in Bellingham. The car was new and clean: 2017 Kia Optima. Also, I thought it was nice of him to made it clear how big of a scratch or a dent is a problem. He also warned me about the ridiculous fuel charge (over $9.89 per gallon!) if I don't fill up before dropping off the car. Drop-Off My drop off was very smooth and quick. The agent read the barcode on the car, walked around the car and quickly checked the inside. Since other reviewers complained about having been charged for a hefty cleaning charge even when they did not smoke, I asked the agent if everything looked good. She was happy with the condition of the car and gave me a receipt with the balance of $0. The drop-off process probably took less than 3 minutes. Had a reservation with another company but their desk was closed. Asked Avis how much a car would be, they quoted $207 (~$30 more than original reservation), seemed reasonable so rented from them without checking other open counters. Upon returning car, they charged me ~$320 base + added charges!! They showed me the fine print as evidence, seems what they tell you is meaningless. Also accused me of lying about filling the tank, that "the car is smarter than us, it wasn't filled up". Worst rental experience. read more

They said they had no cars. Then we reserved one online. Then they said they had no cars and we shouldn't have been able to reserve one online. However, we reserved one online. But they wouldn't give us one. Although they had them in the lot. We really think the person behind the counter did t want to rent us o e new isr they had plans after work and we arrived too close to their closing. The human at the service counter was so friendly and kind. He actually stayed open almost 2 hours past closing time to make sure that I, and other passengers on out delayed flight, weren't stranded. I say he's a human because sometimes it feels like people just don't care. He did. I also have a nice new car to drive around town. I highly recommend Bellingham airport Avis. read more

The Bellingham Airport Avis-Budget location is owner operated. Fantastic customer service. We ended up renting an upgrade by choice. In fact unlike many car rental locations there is the hard sale on upgrades. We initiated all upgrades. The prices were spot on and the vehicle was immaculate. Will be our go-to from now on. And since it is a mom and Pop owner operated location, we will rent directly rather than through a broker site. read more

Really wish I could give 0 stars. The car we rented stopped working as soon as we got home, it seemed to be an electric glitch or something. We ended up having to borrower a friends car and had that car towed back to AVIS. They refused to refund us, completely unprofessional. Additionally, when trying to get a refund the customer service rep was extremely rude and I was on the phone for an hour - still no refund. read more

Matt at the airport Avis station did a terrific job of solving our rental problem. Due to the weather we were unable to return our car to Seattle on the date requested. Matt checked us in to Bellingham and then checked us out again so that we did not have to go to the airport in person. We can now return the car to Seattle next week for a favorable rate. read more

Disgusted... rented a car for a day & have used Avis for years, but this was the first time at this location. Prepaid as an Avis preferred member. They charged me a $50 for smoking (more than doubled my costs!)! Not once was this car smoked in nor near any smoking! And I have no recourse other than to file a complaint with the better business bureau since this was drummed up after the fact. What a scam! Of course, they chose a charge that can't be proven or documented. WARNING: stay clear! Find another company to rent from! read more

Crooks, rented us a car that was disgusting and reeked of smoke on Christmas Eve. We complained and were told tough luck this is the only car but promised not to charge us. Later we were charged but promised it would be refunded. We got an extra $40 discount after I complained about the situation but subsequently they did not refund the smoking fee due to the ash that was in the car when we picked it up. 1 hour on the phone of being lied to. Go elsewhere and do t take the care if it's dirty or smells they will charge you even if you have documentation saying they won't and apologizing. read more

In 2013 I have rented 8 cars from this Avis and have been happy every time! I'm an Avis Preferred member, so the process to pick up my car is super fast and easy. I'm giving them 5 stars because I rented a car from them on Thanksgiving. I booked a red-eye flight into Bellingham for the night before Thanksgiving which landed at 8am Thanksgiving morning. What I didn't realize was EVERY rental car place at BLI was closed the whole day of Thanksgiving, even though flights were operating. I called this Avis once I figured this out and Paul came in on his holiday-day-off specially for me so that I could drive out to Maple Falls to see my dad for Thanksgiving! I've done that drive by taxi before and it was $100 one-way, and I'm not even sure I could have found a taxi on Thanksgiving, so Paul was my hero! read more

They don't put customers first! Beware!!!! Awful policies on cancelation! I did make a reservation for my wife and a normal rental place would close at 6 during the week days so my wife with her tight schedule went few minutes pst 5 and the place was closed already. The reservation was for 5 o'clock and for 5 days. Called on the second rental day to cancel the reservation because my wife had to go and find another car to drive and I have been transferred from one place to another and everybody wanted to charge me $100 NO Show FEE, that was the rate I've paid for 5 day rental! They would not pro rate(I didn't use the car) or just whatever charge a $25 fee for service, which I would've been ok with that. I've requested that and nobody seemed to care. Bad customer service! I recently had a family emergency out of state and needed to get there with short notice. I called AVIS at the Bellingham airport and was relieved to speak with Matt. Matt was courteous, professional and listened attentively to me as I explained my situation and the need for a car on such short notice. Upon arriving at the airport; which if you haven't is insanely easy to navigate, I arrived at the counter and was able to complete my reservation and be on my way which is standard for most car rentals. However what warrants this review is the fact that Matt and his care for the business and customers doesn't make you feel like a number. I have rented from other agencies and yes they are friendly and professional, however you often walk away feeling like you got the canned statements of how are you, where are you going.....Not with Mr. Matt at AVIS! He's like the barber you've gone to for years that offers a beverage, a cut and some sports or life talk. He takes the time to engage, and leave you leaving feeling better than when you arrived. This is customer service!! There are other rental agencies to choose from in Bellingham and you will no doubt do just fine getting the car you need. But if you want a car with care, and a dedication to provide a positive experience, go with AVIS at the Bellingham airport. read more
