We got our Suburban for a good rate. It could have been cleaner, and vacuumed better. Maybe i'm not used to such modern vehicles but the seat kept going up and down, front and back each time i turned the vehicle on and off. No idea how to stop all this motion. Nevertheless, the check in took a few minutes because of the line, but moved quickly once i got to the sole receptionist. Return was fast. Bus to the airport comes every few minutes. Would be glad to use avis again. read more

Car has pretty much broken down and Avis won't do anything about it. I'm in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico. Unbelievably bad service for a UK family. Won't ever use this company again. read more

When we arrived at 1:30 am our time, we were told Avis had "run out of cars"! Isn't that what they rent? After 35 minutes, they put us in a tiny electric car with instructions to return the next day for an exchange. Late the next morning a rather cranky young man put us in a Jetta. I remarked that was running roughly. Several hours later the hazard light came on(tire). So another long drive to the airport, another man gave us a car that actually functioned. It was not the SUV we had reserved, it just glad it ran. Can't imagine using them again, read more

Unsafe tires on rental car We discovered unsafe tires when changing a flat a few hours after renting car at ORD in Chicago. Flat tire was worn unevenly with a quarter of its tread area bald and majority of tread below safe tread depth. Other tire looked similar. This car's odometer read 44K miles. Avis customer support arranged for us to exchange car at a nearby location- on arriving discovered that location hadn't had an Avis affiliation for 4 years. Avis then sent us to Madison WI where we exchanged for another vehicle- some 45 miles on the compact spare. Communication on phone was cumbersome. Customer service seemed to have little concern about the safety issue but at my prompting did say they would have facility at ORD look into it. I provided photos of tire to customer service and inquired about protocol to prevent this happening to others, however no information was available from the (second) supervisor I spoke with. I was offered a free day of rental next time we used Avis, later upped to a 2 rental day refund. I will be inspecting my rental cars more closely from now on and avoiding higher mileage rental cars. read more

The rental and return process were smooth and there were no issues noted at the time. Nearly a month later, we received a notice claiming there was damage to the car during our rental (we had the vehicle for less than 12 hours). The "damage inspection report" provided did not include any photos, and the inspection date was several weeks after the car had already been returned. The email came from a no-reply address and there was no clear way to dispute the claim. The only link included required entering credit card information before any details about the alleged damage could be viewed, which was concerning. The lack of documentation and the delay made it difficult to understand or verify the claim. If you rent here, it's probably a good idea to take photos or video of the car at pickup and drop-off, just to protect yourself in case something like this comes up later. read more

I rented a car which had previous bumper damage that was marked with white X's, indicating the damage was already recorded. Two months later I was sent a bill for a replacement bumper. Based on other reviews there appears to be a pattern here -- this company is scamming renters for "repair" costs. Take pictures with time stamps -- or better yet avoid this company. read more

Dropped the car off on the last day of the rental. 3 days later received a text telling me the rental is overdue. Customer service is an overseas call center and you can only understand every 3rd word the reps say. Finally, they find the car and make multiple charges to my card. I check the receipt and the charges don't match the receipt. It's was a rental for work and I can't submit an expense with a mismatching receipt. Call customer service again. They say their system is down and I have to call later. Just don't rent here. There's other options at the airport. read more

Great experience and wide selection of vehicles to choose from. I got in late due to a connecting flight and didn't get the chance to change my vehicle. However, Ramon was easy to get a hold of over the phone and quickly connected me with the manager onsite to resolve the issue. When I came back to exchange the car, Miles was there to help. He was extremely personable and easy to work with. I was in and out within a matter of minutes. Thank you! read more

Beware! Check your vehicle closely before driving off the lot! If there is any physical damage document it yourself with date stamped photos on your phone. We pointed out the damaged bumper to the exit person, who blew off our concerns with "oh, that was already recorded on the computer and charged to the prior renter." Well, when we went to turn in the car, low and behold, there was no such notation. They wanted to charge us for the damage, but luckily we had taken pictures and were able to prove it was already there. They were NOT very nice about it, either! read more

Rented a car for Thanksgiving week and I always rent through Costco. I did not have any problem with the lines, wait time, car was fine but what I do have an issue with is that I left my parents handi-cap placard parking pass in the car. I called what I thought was the direct line for this branch but I was passed around like a hot potato. I was told that I could not be transferred directly to this car rental site, I had to make a lost and found report. I literally called 3hrs after realizing I left it in the car. I created a lost and found report and as of now, they're stating they have not found it. This is absolutely ridiculous!!! If anything, someone that works for cleaning out the cars or an employee is keeping my California Handi-Cap placard! Which totally sucks because my parents are really handi-cap and NEED this placard. I hope someone in upper management reads this and helps me resolve this very easy issue. I've rented from Avis/Budget for many, many years and never had a problem resolving an issue like this. read more

I've quit using Avis after decades because my experience at this location was the last straw.* My car wasn't on the board when I got to the Preferred office. There was no one in the office except for the cleaner, who helpfully went to find someone. The one person in the lot refused to help me. When the person who was supposed to be working the desk finally showed up 15 minutes later, she gave my car to the other person who'd been waiting. She was rude to me. And she (probably intentionally) assigned me a car with a broken windshield, which I didn't spot until I was half way to Santa Fe because it was nighttime. *Something has gone wrong with every single Avis rental I've had in the last five years. I've switched to National. read more

Nice counter service personnel, but watch your final bill! Large selection of vehicles at the Albuquerque NM location. We were able to rent a Jeep Wrangler which we wanted. It was also a hybrid, which was nice. Although it hadn't been washed. We looked around and it appeared most other vehicles waiting to be rented had not been either. We had to drive around for quite a while to find a place to clean a huge splattered bug off of the center of the driver section of the windshield. Again, biggest take away from this review: Watch your final bill! If it doesn't appear correct, go speak to the Preferred Counter person. read more

I would think twice about renting from Avis at the Albuquerque Airport. Lots of hassle and errors that I won't get in to but the manager, Victor, was unapologetic and unwilling to help correct an error that Avis made. Buyer beware. We were made to pay double what our reservation charged because a reservation isn't really a reservation here. read more

First of all, I would give this rental company zero stars! We got off our flight to only get into the rental car station to see a RIDICULOUSLY long line!!! It got to a point that ppl were canceling their reservation and going somewhere else. They only had one person working behind the counter. God forbid someone had somewhere urgent to be. I would not rent from this Avis EVER! read more

Cindy saved us. So so helpful and kind. Completely turned our trip around. So grateful.

Decent experience renting a car here. From the airport, take a shuttle to their offices near by. Shuttles arrive often. It was a very fast process, 5 minutes at the most. They had the car ready for us in the parking lot, a Kia sedan (which was fine) and we were on our way to Santa Fe. For the return, they had somebody working in the parking lot, they checked us out fast and off we were to catch the shuttle. Very fast process! read more

Avis - Go Avis! - Car Rental Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

Arrived to find no one at the customer help. Small sign directed us to the budget line...with one person slowly working through customers from both companies . Ugh. The person helping out was using one hand one finger to enter information into the keyboard... This could be part of the problem the other part of the problem is not having enough people on staff to take care of their customers. The alternative Avis line for the 'fastbreak customers..this took 60 minutes! Yo put it into perspective , It takes less time to drive to santa fe. The worst service ever! Our flight took almost as long as waiting in the line for a car. And once we got our ticket to get a car it took another 30 minutes to get it. And then another 30 minutes to have a car brought to us. When we asked where poor car was the employee said to the customer service last, "i don't know if we have any cars back there." Uhm? What?! The customer service was caustic and almost rude. read more

Avis Rental Car Event Log Washington DC Business Trip 12-NOV-2023 Found that Avis is not at airport anymore and managed to get transportation via the shuttle to the Avis lot. Was not asked to sign for the car. Once in the car, white Hona CR-V license # FL84BKAH, found that the side views mirror controls did not work. Got out and adjusted mirrors. Informed one attendant who just looked on. Once driving to the hotel and reaching over 50 mph, there was noticeable sounds coming from the rear wheels. Kept the speed down below 60 mph. Inspection of the tires revealed both rear tires are down to the tread warning bars. I have pictures. 18-NOV-2023 I filled up the tank at Camp Springs, MD a few miles away before driving to the airport. Arrived at Avis lot to return car at about 0500 hours. Lot was closed and office was dark. Tried calling customer service and got recording that the phone line opens at 0700 hours. Went back to the airport to park it at another rental agencies, SixT, parking lot. Was advised to park on the side where employees park. Took pictures of car and identifying markings in the garage to show location. Put keys on dash and headed to check in my luggage for my 0730 flight. 0603 hours Eastern Time: Talked with Eric at 703-419-7900 and described the situation. He said it would be taken care of. Told Eric about the mirrors not working and the bald tires in the back. 1841 hours Mountain Time: Talked with Austin at 800-354-2847. He told me it was just after costumer service hours that are from 0630 to 1930 hours Central and asked to call be tomorrow. 19-NOV-2023 0758 hours Mountain Time: Talked to Mya at 800-354-2847. Explained to Mya where I dropped of the car in the SixT parking lot. Explained the rear tires are bald and the mirrors don't work. Put me on hold and then transferred me to roadside assistance with Shadia. Shadia got my information and story, put me on hold and will call me back. Shadia called me back and going to send roadside assistance to recover the vehicle. 1131 hours Mountain Time: Roadside assistance calls and I texted him some pics in the area that had Level A2 row 5 painted on a column next to the car. They found the vehicle and told me it was not in the same place I had left it. He wrote in the text the car is in their lot and will return it soon. 1643 hours Mountain Time: Tanya with roadside assistance called to say the car has been returned. I will check for receipt tomorrow. 20-NOV-2023 1529 hours Mountain Time: Called Kaywana at 703-419-5815 to check on receipt. Said it will be online in 24 to 48 hours. 27-NOV-2023 Checking on receipt has no results. 0833 hours Mountain Time: Called and talked to Luis at 703-419-5815 and he said the car was not returned yet. He found that notes that described that the roadside assistance found the car with keys on the dashboard. I told him there seems to a problem with Avis communicating with the roadside assistance people. I also reminded him that the side view mirrors don't work and the read tires are bald. 29-NOV-2023 A receipt was issued finally. Somehow the car had 787 miles driven on it and an 1/8 tank of gas. Was charged for the gas. I did not drive the car that far. I filled the tank with 2.646 gallons prior to returning the car. Conclusion: Never renting from AVIS again. This log has been turned into the company that I work for and will be posted on review pages. read more

I rented a car in Santa Fe and returned it to this location. My flight was before they opened for the day so I left the vehicle and keys in the designated area. A few weeks later I got a notification from Avis that I was being charged $170 for a damaged key lock cylinder. The car had keyless entry so I never even once used the key lock. Not sure if I got dinged for a pre-existing issue or if an employee caused the damage and then just pinned it on me but on the invoice the cause was listed as "vandalism" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ From there I got trapped in a bureaucratic nightmare. I had rental car damage coverage from my credit card so I could've submitted for reimbursement only they wouldn't reimburse me without photos of the damage, something Avis refused to provide. I obviously didn't have photos either since as I said, everything was fine when I returned the vehicle. I got forced into trying to prove a negative! What an unbelievably frustrating situation. I spent so much time trying to fight this both with Avis and my insurance before finally giving up. I regret every interaction with Avis. I regret even having to spend time writing this stupid review. All in all, can't say I recommend this place! I'll avoid Avis in the future. read more

What a shit show of a rental car company. Couldn't verify my license at the counter due to computer issues, got stuck outside at the counter waiting 1.5 hours just to finally get a vehicle with only one person ahead of me. Incompetence on all levels. I normally book through National but this rental car facility is such a shit show you can barely book through your preferred company. Never again. If you work for Intel and have to fly here goodluck read more

I thought the rental worked well, no line, and pleasant staff on exit and return. Then when I got the bill I was charged a refuling fee. I filled up less than 2 miles from the rental return, in fact the exit before the airport exit. I have raised a ticket with them and we will see what they say but this is a classic rental car scheme. Update from 1 star to 3 now. About an hour after I filed a complaint on their website they came back with a refund for the fee and apologized. Such a prompt response late at night does mean something. I didn't go to more starts because it is sad that if a person doesn't verify the receipt they get the next couple of days they are stuck with the charge and Avis comes out on top. read more

The shuttle was an hour wait, we ended up paying for an uber ride from the airline terminal to the rental car terminal because it's too far to walk. The only pro was that the car was awesome Infiniti QX80 ... However it smelled like weed when we got in, and we had a 2 year old with us... We returned the car at 1pm prior to our flight ... the next morning the car was checked in at 6:42am and we were charged around $150 more for it. Called Avis and was hung up on, then talked to two representatives asking the same questions and still don't have a refund... I would recommend using Turo or something similar read more

STAY AWAY!! IF I COULD GIVE IT A ZERO I WOULD. This company is not what it was in the past. They did not honor our AARP reservation and rented us a TESLA (which they said would be cheaper) without providing an adaptor or the pin code for the glove compartment. New Mexico does not have superchargers readily available but you can charge on native American land. When we looked on the screen for super chargers, they were few and far between. When I called AVIS customer service to please let us know where the adaptor was NOBODY answered the phone in the Albuquerque airport. I had let the person at the Albuquerque counter know we were going to Santa Fe and they said that it shouldn't be a problem since there are plenty of chargers there. This was a vacation and we wanted to go to Taos as well. When I called AVIS again to please let us know where the adaptor is, they sent us to the AVIS at the Santa Fe Municipal airport in the hopes that they had one for us to use. The manager there, Jeanet, recommended we leave the Tesla and take a Chevy Malibu instead since she knew it would be difficult to get to Toas without the adapter. She was very helpful and told us to return the car to Albuquerque when we were finished. When we returned the Malibu to Albuquerque, we let the manager know all of the trouble we had gone through and he offered to credit us a day. We were satisfied and left. Almost 2 weeks after returning the car, my visa is charged for a Tesla super charge. I called customer service again and they gave me the run around saying I need to contact the manager of Albuquerque, who must e-mail me, so I can call customer service again for the credit. This is ridiculous. Customer Service at AVIS is zero (except for the one manager at Santa Fe Municipal Airport who actually tried to help us). Save yourself trouble, AVOID THIS PLACE. read more

Avis at Albuquerque Sunport quoted a price for my rental car, but when I returned it, I was told that my rental car had a "system" that re-priced the rental the moment I drove it back onto the return lot(!), and you guessed it, the "re-price" was about $200 more than I was originally quoted and the staff at the desk said there was nothing that could be done by them, because the (re)pricing was controlled by the corporate office! I contested it and disputed the charge through my credit card company, and my credit card company would not tell me the "proof" that Avis sent them, but said that they had to honor Avis's invoice!?! By the way, my Unreliable/Unhelpful credit card company is Chase Bank (Visa card), with whom I've been a loyal, full-paying customer for over a decade! Worst possible scam!!! First they tried to charge me $2500 for one day rental, same situation happened to people just next to me (should be about 500 including the deposit). Two days later they overcharged my card for $630, trying to tell me that I held the car for an additional day. Later that was refunded after only 5 calls.... Another day later and they charged me extra $125. Customer service, desk office - noone can tell me why, or what the charge is for. 4 days of talking and they are just sending 'we are sorry' letters, no real action or refund though. I would give zero stars if I could, totally ruined my trip in US. Wasted time, stress. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. read more

Buyer beware! This location is awful. When I rented a camero for the weekend the convertible top was broken and the inside was nasty! Gunk on controls and looked like burn holes in seat. Unfortunately I had a need to extend for one day and this is where the real problems began. The system was "down" when I called in and was told to go to the physical location. The gentleman at the front desk was unable to help so I asked to speak with a manager who was unavailable for 15 minutes that turned into 30 minutes. I was unable to extend my rental and unable to speak with a manager. The customer service with this company is a joke and the "upgraded" car was a joke. Rent with Avis and if you run into issues it's on you! I could go on but I'll leave it at that. Wish I could give 0 stars. read more

Only one person at the counter to check in a line of people waiting to get their cars. She was very nice and working as fast as she could. So fast in fact that she blew a line right by me that made it sound like accepting the insurance wouldn't cost me any more but wound up practically doubling what the bill should have been. After check in the wait wasn't over. A group of us waited about 30 minutes as there was no car waiting for any of us and the Avis workers milling around were in no particular hurry to help anyone. Once I got the car and got on the road I noticed that the tank was not full. It was short about an eighth of a tank, but of course you're expected to bring it back full, so that's free money for them. If I could give them a zero I would. One Attendent at the desk and a line of about 30 people. Processing of each customer takes about 12 - 20 minutes. While the workers who work there are as kind as the rest of the folks I met while in NM, the business practices of Avis here are downright deceptive. I was offered a $35 upcharge for insurance, I said sure, why not, but in the end, the charge was closer to $46. It might feel naive and nitpicky, but they didn't mention that there was tax on the charge and the actual charge was $35.97, which is more like $36. In addition, when I returned the car, I was charged for fuel service even though I had just filled up the tank. When I asked the worker in the return line about it, he shrugged and said everyone gets charged that by default and I had to go to the desk to get it removed. I had to wonder how many people who rented from Avis walked away from ABQ getting double-charged for gas without realizing it. Outside of the deceptive practices, I was running late when I landed and needed to get ahold of the front desk at Avis. No matter how many times I tried to navigate the phone number, I was continuously sent to their outsourced help center that couldn't actually help me with my reservation for that day. I had to leave my elderly mother behind who was waiting for someone else to land and rush to the car rental center to ensure our car was held. I was in contact with the manager at this location, but he was very little help and it was clear that he had no interest in doing the right thing for the customer as he felt that holding onto the $46 was worth losing goodwill. Poor Service. Worst of all, almost 90 days after returning the car, they claim glass damage. They don't respond to calls or emails - it took over 20 days to get the FIRST response.
