Maybe i'm not used to such modern vehicles but the seat kept going up and down, front and back each time i turned the vehicle on and off. No idea how to stop all this motion. Nevertheless, the check in took a few minutes because of the line, but moved quickly once i got to the sole receptionist. Return was fast. Bus to the airport comes every few minutes. Unsafe tires on rental car We discovered unsafe tires when changing a flat a few hours after renting car at ORD in Chicago. Flat tire was worn unevenly with a quarter of its tread area bald and majority of tread below safe tread depth. Other tire looked similar. This car's odometer read 44K miles. Avis customer support arranged for us to exchange car at a nearby location- on arriving discovered that location hadn't had an Avis affiliation for 4 years. Avis then sent us to Madison WI where we exchanged for another vehicle- some 45 miles on the compact spare. Communication on phone was cumbersome. Customer service seemed to have little concern about the safety issue but at my prompting did say they would have facility at ORD look into it. I provided photos of tire to customer service and inquired about protocol to prevent this happening to others, however no information was available from the (second) supervisor I spoke with. I was offered a free day of rental next time we used Avis, later upped to a 2 rental day refund. I will be inspecting my rental cars more closely from now on and avoiding higher mileage rental cars. read more

Customer service is an overseas call center and you can only understand every 3rd word the reps say. Finally, they find the car and make multiple charges to my card. I check the receipt and the charges don't match the receipt. It's was a rental for work and I can't submit an expense with a mismatching receipt. Call customer service again. Beware! Check your vehicle closely before driving off the lot! If there is any physical damage document it yourself with date stamped photos on your phone. We pointed out the damaged bumper to the exit person, who blew off our concerns with "oh, that was already recorded on the computer and charged to the prior renter." Rented a car for Thanksgiving week and I always rent through Costco. I did not have any problem with the lines, wait time, car was fine but what I do have an issue with is that I left my parents handi-cap placard parking pass in the car. I called what I thought was the direct line for this branch but I was passed around like a hot potato. I was told that I could not be transferred directly to this car rental site, I had to make a lost and found report. I literally called 3hrs after realizing I left it in the car. Nice counter service personnel, but watch your final bill! Large selection of vehicles at the Albuquerque NM location. We were able to rent a Jeep Wrangler which we wanted. It was also a hybrid, which was nice. Although it hadn't been washed. We looked around and it appeared most other vehicles waiting to be rented had not been either. We had to drive around for quite a while to find a place to clean a huge splattered bug off of the center of the driver section of the windshield. Decent experience renting a car here. From the airport, take a shuttle to their offices near by. Shuttles arrive often. It was a very fast process, 5 minutes at the most. They had the car ready for us in the parking lot, a Kia sedan (which was fine) and we were on our way to Santa Fe. Informed one attendant who just looked on. Once driving to the hotel and reaching over 50 mph, there was noticeable sounds coming from the rear wheels. Kept the speed down below 60 mph. Inspection of the tires revealed both rear tires are down to the tread warning bars. I have pictures. 18-NOV-2023 I filled up the tank at Camp Springs, MD a few miles away before driving to the airport. Arrived at Avis lot to return car at about 0500 hours. Lot was closed and office was dark. Tried calling customer service and got recording that the phone line opens at 0700 hours. Shadia called me back and going to send roadside assistance to recover the vehicle. 1131 hours Mountain Time: Roadside assistance calls and I texted him some pics in the area that had Level A2 row 5 painted on a column next to the car. They found the vehicle and told me it was not in the same place I had left it. He wrote in the text the car is in their lot and will return it soon. 1643 hours Mountain Time: Tanya with roadside assistance called to say the car has been returned. I will check for receipt tomorrow. 20-NOV-2023 1529 hours Mountain Time: Called Kaywana at 703-419-5815 to check on receipt. Said it will be online in 24 to 48 hours. 27-NOV-2023 Checking on receipt has no results. 0833 hours Mountain Time: Called and talked to Luis at 703-419-5815 and he said the car was not returned yet. He found that notes that described that the roadside assistance found the car with keys on the dashboard. I told him there seems to a problem with Avis communicating with the roadside assistance people. I also reminded him that the side view mirrors don't work and the read tires are bald. 29-NOV-2023 A receipt was issued finally. Somehow the car had 787 miles driven on it and an 1/8 tank of gas. Was charged for the gas. I did not drive the car that far. I filled the tank with 2.646 gallons prior to returning the car. Conclusion: Never renting from AVIS again. I rented a car in Santa Fe and returned it to this location. My flight was before they opened for the day so I left the vehicle and keys in the designated area. A few weeks later I got a notification from Avis that I was being charged $170 for a damaged key lock cylinder. The car had keyless entry so I never even once used the key lock. Not sure if I got dinged for a pre-existing issue or if an employee caused the damage and then just pinned it on me but on the invoice the cause was listed as "vandalism" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ From there I got trapped in a bureaucratic nightmare. I had rental car damage coverage from my credit card so I could've submitted for reimbursement only they wouldn't reimburse me without photos of the damage, something Avis refused to provide. I thought the rental worked well, no line, and pleasant staff on exit and return. Then when I got the bill I was charged a refuling fee. I filled up less than 2 miles from the rental return, in fact the exit before the airport exit. I have raised a ticket with them and we will see what they say but this is a classic rental car scheme. Update from 1 star to 3 now. About an hour after I filed a complaint on their website they came back with a refund for the fee and apologized. Such a prompt response late at night does mean something. STAY AWAY!! IF I COULD GIVE IT A ZERO I WOULD. This company is not what it was in the past. They did not honor our AARP reservation and rented us a TESLA (which they said would be cheaper) without providing an adaptor or the pin code for the glove compartment. New Mexico does not have superchargers readily available but you can charge on native American land. When we looked on the screen for super chargers, they were few and far between. When I called AVIS customer service to please let us know where the adaptor was NOBODY answered the phone in the Albuquerque airport. I had let the person at the Albuquerque counter know we were going to Santa Fe and they said that it shouldn't be a problem since there are plenty of chargers there. This was a vacation and we wanted to go to Taos as well. When I called AVIS again to please let us know where the adaptor is, they sent us to the AVIS at the Santa Fe Municipal airport in the hopes that they had one for us to use. The manager there, Jeanet, recommended we leave the Tesla and take a Chevy Malibu instead since she knew it would be difficult to get to Toas without the adapter. She was very helpful and told us to return the car to Albuquerque when we were finished. When we returned the Malibu to Albuquerque, we let the manager know all of the trouble we had gone through and he offered to credit us a day. We were satisfied and left. Almost 2 weeks after returning the car, my visa is charged for a Tesla super charge. I called customer service again and they gave me the run around saying I need to contact the manager of Albuquerque, who must e-mail me, so I can call customer service again for the credit. The only pro was that the car was awesome Infiniti QX80 ... However it smelled like weed when we got in, and we had a 2 year old with us... So fast in fact that she blew a line right by me that made it sound like accepting the insurance wouldn't cost me any more but wound up practically doubling what the bill should have been. Unfortunately I had a need to extend for one day and this is where the real problems began. The system was "down" when I called in and was told to go to the physical location. The gentleman at the front desk was unable to help so I asked to speak with a manager who was unavailable for 15 minutes that turned into 30 minutes. I was unable to extend my rental and unable to speak with a manager. The customer service with this company is a joke and the "upgraded" car was a joke. Georgette was the agent who assisted me during my rental. She was courteous, outgoing, and knowledgeable about the city and the event that was occurring. While the workers who work there are as kind as the rest of the folks I met while in NM, the business practices of Avis here are downright deceptive. I was offered a $35 upcharge for insurance, I said sure, why not, but in the end, the charge was closer to $46. It might feel naive and nitpicky, but they didn't mention that there was tax on the charge and the actual charge was $35.97, which is more like $36. In addition, when I returned the car, I was charged for fuel service even though I had just filled up the tank. When I asked the worker in the return line about it, he shrugged and said everyone gets charged that by default and I had to go to the desk to get it removed. I had to wonder how many people who rented from Avis walked away from ABQ getting double-charged for gas without realizing it. Outside of the deceptive practices, I was running late when I landed and needed to get ahold of the front desk at Avis. No matter how many times I tried to navigate the phone number, I was continuously sent to their outsourced help center that couldn't actually help me with my reservation for that day. I had to leave my elderly mother behind who was waiting for someone else to land and rush to the car rental center to ensure our car was held. I was in contact with the manager at this location, but he was very little help and it was clear that he had no interest in doing the right thing for the customer as he felt that holding onto the $46 was worth losing goodwill.
