We were given a very (very) nice, new Volvo sedan, which was one of the nicest cars I've ever had the pleasure of renting, through Hertz or elsewhere. After the terrible customer service we received and a month-long battle of why we were overcharged $700 for a car we fully prepaid for, I can no longer recommend Hertz to anyone. We have had great experiences in the past in CA, NV, NY, MA, GA, OR, and WA, but we had a terrible one in NM. We had prepaid in full for our vehicle weeks before arriving in NM. When we got in, we did not see our name on the board to show where our car was parked, so we went inside to inquire at the counter. The man at the counter accused us of "being late" and directed us to a spot number where our pre-paid SUV supposedly was parked. Little did we know the man took it upon himself to direct us to a car that cost $100 extra PER DAY. To our surprise, when we dropped the car off, we were charged an extra $700 plus tax. When I asked why, the gentleman taking our car in said we had an upgraded vehicle. I don't know anything about cars, but our SUV was just regular to me. I mean, the passenger seat was broken, so it could not recline or scoot up or back, and I did not think it was anything special. Turns out it was so special, it was $100 extra per day. We battled with Hertz for months trying to figure out how we were upgraded at such a huge cost without being notified or our approval, and they had no answer. The customer service reps we spoke to told us that we should have realized our vehicle was an upgraded one, and we would not receive a refund. We will never rent from Hertz ever again. read more

We got a decent working car but the initial getting of it was a struggle. We were supposed to see our name on the board outside, quick-choose a car from a specified row, and quickly check out and be on our way. Instead, our name wasn't on the board at all. So we had to wait inside for quite sometime. The additional charge for an approved driver was also bonkers high, but that was our choice. The process that was supposed to be speedy and simple ended up being painfully slow and tedious and rather complicated. They handed me a bunch of papers after checking out and didn't tell me that the person manning the booth needed to see all those papers and my driver's license in order to exit the lot...which would have been nice to know so that they could have been kept conveniently located and easily grab-able instead of put away in a backpack in the back seat of the car. The car itself was clean and worked and got us from place to place. Returning the car was far simpler than anything else and went very well. read more

We had a great experience with Hertz on our recent trip to Albuquerque. From the airport you follow the signs to rental car shuttle pickup. We only had to wait a couple minutes. Hertz is about a five minute drive. Once you arrive, if you're a gold member, there's a special kiosk with your name and instructions where to find your car. The kiosk directed us to the "presidential circle" where we were told to select any car we wanted. There was a lot to choose from. For our purposes, a small SUV was good. When you leave with your chosen car, you stop at a kiosk where you show the attendant your reservation email, and she scans you in (matches you to the car you chose). That's it -- it was very easy. When you return the car, an attendant directs you where to park and scans in your car. Five seconds later you're on your way. I want to add that I had selected "manager's special" for this trip: you get a very good deal, about half the price of a cheap car, and they can give you whatever random car they want. It was a great value in return for "pot luck" -- and yet we had a very wide selection of cars to choose from. We couldn't be happier with the experience. Been from out of town I was at the Hertz counter at the Albuquerque airport trying to rent a car. I was explaining to the 60-year-old man behind the counter that I wanted to make sure I got the right sized vehicle as I had had problems at other facilities, specifically them trying to get me into a smaller vehicle. I had not been speaking when he interrupted me and told me that he was going to get me into the car I was designated for. Hertz rental at Albuquerque International Airport was an absolute nightmare. My experience with them was nothing short of a train wreck. I called Hertz Roadside assistance due to a flat tire sustained after 22 miles (no nails or obstruction in the tire). The agent said Hertz Albuquerque International had available cars and return it there. When I asked for another car, the manager, Burt, was incredibly rude and unhelpful. Instead of offering a suitable replacement, he insisted that I take an electric car against my wishes. When I mentioned that I was told to go there by Hertz, Burt stated that these people were in other countries and don't know what's going on at their location. I would also like to note that I started off speaking with another employee. A young woman who kept interjecting and making matters worse. When my husband tried to reason with Burt, another employee, Jason, threatened to cancel our contract and not allow us to leave. This kind of power-tripping behavior is completely unacceptable and left me feeling horrified and traumatized. Visuaize all three Hertz employees telling us they can't help us and take whatever! In the end, we were forced to take an electric car after already paying for a gas car and the fuel option. I have worked with customers, either business to business or consumers, for over 20 years and it has been my experience, that when organizations or specific branches are underperforming, there is a disconnect between the leaderships objectives and meeting the needs of the customer. I am CONFIDENT, this what is happening here. I will never use Hertz again. I will be sure to spread the word to everyone I know to steer clear of this unprofessional and unethical policies. When I reached the Thrifty counter to pick up, it was closed, and I was directed to the Hertz Gold counter. The rep at the counter said, "There is no car available in the category as I booked the car last minute". He said they only have SUVs, and it will cost $20 extra per day. When I told him I would cancel the reservation and book a car from another company, he replied that it was non-cancellable as it is through the third party, and the pick-up time has passed. When I started dialing the reservation line, he said we may have an EV, and that's the only car available. I replied, OK, I will take it. He gave me the paper to get a car. Rented an electric vehicle which they could not immediately locate. Once we got the car and got to our host's house, we discovered they had not included a charging cord. We tried to contact them at the local desk by phone five different times to invite them to make it right for us. No one would answer the phone. The national number would pick up but couldn't help us. We ended driving the half hour back to get a cord. We were referred to the manager's area, which was three people looking incredibly bored behind a desk. They blandly told us that Hertz DOES NOT PROVIDE CHARGING CORDS FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES. So if you are staying at a private residence, maybe skip the EV. The rudest people. I'm a Hertz Gold member and have rented many times from this location, but the people are just getting ruder and more disrespectful. Asked an employee a question about taking a car and this individual literally yelled at me. Then he got offended when I responded with the same energy. Avoid Hertz Airport at all cost. I would suggest walking before supporting this facility. If you hold any sort of status at all with Hertz, you will still be taken care of at any of the other providers here at the airport. And I am getting an electric car. Once again I say not a chance in hell am I driving around in a golf cart in ABQ heat. She then says well then I get the smallest car they have. Told her that not an option. She tells me my card is working and now the issue my reservation and wrong car is suddenly a result of my card not working. What a dumbshit. Every issue that came up somehow was the customers fault and she made zero effort to resolve or recognize the customer or loyalty. Zero, lazy, borderline worthless. She requested my drivers license three separate times so I told her to keep u til she can get it right. She appeared to be less trained supervisor, then a manager walked in. He took over, polite and could tell there was an issue. The first thing she says, his card isn't working. Why even wake up if you hate life this much? I asked him if AQB Hertz recognizes Hertz President Club members or loyal Hertz customers, she could respond fast enough for him with NO. On the Hertz webpage, they let me rent a car and pay for it for pickup at a location at the Amtrak Station in downtown Albuquerque with published hours and address. There is no rental outlet at the address (train station), we got there and couldn't find the Hertz desk. We tried to call and there phone system was awful, couldn't contact a human for help with our paid rental. Finally, after an hour of wasted time, we got an Uber to the airport rental desk. There was a 20 minute line there before we got to a person and he told us that he couldn't give us a full refund. We needed to call the Hertz number, dial certain prompts and then wait for 35 minutes to talk to an operator. There was a National desk next to hertz, they got us a better car in minutes for the same price. Never again will I use Hertz! read more

The customer service I received here was amazing. I accidentally left my jacket in my rental and did not realize it until I had already checked my bags. I was able to jump back on the shuttle to the car rental place. After running around (in the pouring rain) trying to find someone to help me I went inside to the hertz kiosk (my rental was through Dollar) and the employees went above and beyond to get me my jacket back. I am a Presidents Circle member and my name didnt show up on the screen. Generally i dont have to go to any counter and pick up a car from the Presidents Circle lot and drThere was noone at Gold counter in the parking lot, there was a bell which I rang but there was noone around . So I went to the main counter and the lady there was rude. When i tried to ask her a simple question about if someone is available at Gold counter, she said she cannot attend to me unless my turn comes in the line. Do not accept an EV from this location. I was assigned a Kia as manager's special. When I expressed doubts about taking an electric vehicle for our trip from Albuquerque to Abiquiu in northern NM, the manager insisted that I'd have no trouble to charge the car. That proved wrong. If you're on vacation you must use fast charge which still eats up 45 to 50 minutes to get to 80%, the recommended charge. The final 20% takes another hour-plus. I took the car. I regretted it. On the return to the airport the in vehicle app showed charging stations that were closed, and I returned the car at 50%. Imagine my horror on seeing the final bill, which included a "Tesla rebill" fee of $155.75. Suffice to say I fought and fought and fought it over a 10 day period, getting nonsensical replies from three or four different customer service reps. Finally someone reversed that Tesla rebill but nobody could explain or justify it to me. Until a) Hertz writes a coherent fee structure for EVs and b) more fast charging stations are opened, only gas cars for me on vacation. read more

This may be a pricier option, but the customer service and reliability has been worth it for us. Staff have been friendly and attentive to our needs. The return process was easy peasy. Not bad. The pros are that it was very easy to pick up (Monday afternoon) and drop off (Friday around noon) the car. The car ran well and was clean inside with no outer damage. The so/so: The car could have used a wash. Customer service was mostly friendly. The bad: They charged me for gas when I returned my car. Make sure you ask for a receipt and inspect it before leaving the office/desk. I'd filled the tank. The agent didn't ask me if I did. He removed the charge but I should have asked him to do the whole thing over because the charge was removed after the tax had been calculated on the total amount. So, I (my job) was overcharged a few dollars. No one answers the 800 number and you have to contact them via email to resolve any issues with fuel charges. Make sure you keep a receipt from the gas station. read more

Keep away from Hertz. They are inept at best. We dropped off the rental at 0500am and due to their incompetence and short staff. There was nobody available to check the cars in, there was also a long line of cars, that were also returned. We were told on pick up that it was fine to drop off the vehicle at that time in the morning. It's been over 24 hours and they still have yet enter the car as returned. We had to open a case file. Do not use Hertz rentals, stay away. Update, another day of ineptitude from this location. A second charge beyond what was authorized. We are still trying to deal with this location charging our card and another day of no contact from the management. Finally almost a week later we have heard back from someone at that location via email. They claim that the vehicle was turned in on Monday the 12th of June and that the charges are warranted. We have sent them a copy of the boarding pass. Again do not use this place and avoid their shifty business. read more

We dropped our car off at the Ronald Reagan National Airport and forgot to leave the key fob in the car. We walked back to put the key fob back in the car, and we could not figure out which level we had left the car on. Since Hertz seems to have NO ONE available to help, we entered the Hertz office, which was completely unlocked BTW, and left the key fob under a key board. We took a video of us doing this. We attempted to call their customer service number to talk to them about this detail, but we could get no one on the phone. We ended up calling their roadside assistance, who told us there was nothing they could do; we had to keep trying to call the customer service counter. After numerous calls, we finally got someone to answer the phone. They informed us there was nothing they could do and we would be charged $400 for the key fob. They were not interested in the video we took at all. We are disputing the charge. If it needs to go to court, we have video evidence. read more

"Oh that's the car wash brush it missed the smashed insects on the front grill and the dirty dusty rear end of the car with hand prints on it from the previous customer. Stop the Discrimination Hertz! Although I had a package trip, the agent asked my card to pay. He said " no worries.. it is just deposit we are not charging you." When I returned the car, the agent charged me 161.71$ and said" this is you actual price. Call priceline snd get the refund". After calling many times here and there I found out that they charged me insurance which I thought it is included in the package.
