I don't know how many times I've been to the top now. Six? Maybe more. Every time I come to Albuquerque for work, I try to find time to go up to the peak. I've hiked, driven my car, and taking the tram several times. The tram way is by far the quickest and easiest. Lol. As a woman who was afraid of heights, I put myself in many high places. Yet even for me, the tram was not scary. It certainly is high. Somehow though, I've always felt secure. Moving at 15 miles an hour, you're at the top before you know it. This time we went to dinner and watched the sunset. Coming down after dark was an interesting experience. There is plenty of parking at the bottom, and plenty of space to spread out at the top. This was an awesome experience to ride the 2nd longest tram in the world up to the top! First of all, the day we rode was the 60th annual celebration of the tram. Thus, our tickets were all 50% off. We found out we'd be riding the third generation. It's been so long since I last visited the tram that I probably rode the second generation. It's roomy! Even with the 60th celebration, our wait wasn't extremely long. I believe there are about 30 people on each ride, but I didn't count. I was hoping I didn't feel crammed and it wasn't too bad. Once you're up there, it's amazing to be so far above the ground. On the way up, our 'captain' gave us a bit of trivia about the area, the tram, and our trip up. At some point, you'll pass the other tram coming down, which gives you an idea of how fast you're really going! Wow. Once at the top, it's about 10 degrees cooler. Bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. You can choose to hike a trail that begins on the back side of the restaurant. You'll see the ski lifts and options for different hikes. OR, you can grab a drink from the Ten 3 restaurant and check out the views. We put our name on the list to eat and sipped on cocktails during the wait. It was nice and relaxing up there at the top! We ate at Ten 3 (our wait was 30 minutes) then made our way down. Our guide on the way down didn't say a word, but I suppose it's the same as the way up. There's only one bench on the tram so if you have trouble standing make sure you let it be known. My mom sat going and coming. When you're back at the bottom there's another restaurant if you'd like to eat there instead. They also have a gift shop with some Sandia Tramway, and Albuquerque memorabilia. It's a cute shop. I bought a few items. It's a nice trip. I've ridden before, but it's been so long I don't even remember. Check it out. read more

We were lucky enough to see a storm pass through Albuquerque and over the Sandia Mountains in August. It was a spectacular sight. This is easily a must in Albuquerque. I'm so glad the Tram runs through Summer. You can also eat at the restaurant at the top called Ten 3 (elevation is 10,300 ft). Pretty cool because Albuquerque's elevation is 5,312 ft. So the Tram takes you up 5,000 ft. This is the ski Tram used in winter for the Sandia Peak Ski Area. Prices are reasonable. Parking onsite. Bring a jacket because temperatures drop up there, especially in the evening. The day we went, it was 68 degrees up there, in Albuquerque it was 98 degrees. read more

I'm in Albuquerque on a work trip and my colleagues have suggested I do the Sandia Peak Tramway as an excursion. I was hesitant because I'm afraid of heights. But my colleague who traveled from California with me was down to try it so I mustered up the courage to do it. Wow! What an amazing experience this was. We started out at 6,519 ft elevation and the gondola took us to the very top of Sandia Peak at 10,378 ft. That's a 3,859 feet climb in 15 minutes! The view of Albuquerque from the top is stunning. Along the ride you see granite rocks embedded into the mountain sides which are just spectacular. The gondala felt safe is accompanied by a tour guide who explains details along the ride. This tram sets some kind of record so it's worth going at least once. You can drive around to the top of the Sandias, and there is a ski resort up there as well. This takes you up to the top via tram, you can walk around, there's some dedicated walkways (attractive), there's a restaurant (high end), there's bats (at night). The last time I was there, I didn't like that it was a ticketed timed entry to get up and then a free-for-all to get down but I guess that tracks if they intend to let folks tarry up on top as long as they like. The views are of course lovely. It does get crowded, including the gift shop area, so be forewarned. read more

What an amazing experience to be able to ride the Sandi Peak Tram! It has been on my list of things to do in ABQ for quite some time. Staff was friendly and willing to answer any and all questions. Our guide up the mountain was extremely knowledgeable about the area and shared lots of interesting and unique facts with us. Despite it being cloudy at the top, the views going up and down were amazing. While at the top, we decided to walk around and explore a little. Some things you note; the temperature drops considerably up at the top. Bring some layers! Bring some snack to enjoy as the restaurant isn't always open and can be a little spendy. I love the Tram and the top of the sandias! Yes- it is a bit scary, and yes it is very cold but I will say it is one of the most unique transport experiences I have ever been on and boy is it fun. This was on our list of places to visit while in Albuquerque. It's definitely worth every penny. I bought the tickets online, @$34 pp and you have to select a time you wish to visit. The times have a two hour window. We came on a Friday afternoon and parking was easy, we waited fifteen minutes in line. It really wasn't that bad. Our tram operator was very knowledgeable and filled us in on all the interesting facts. The views are incredible once you're at the top. There are lots of trails to hike on. We didn't partake in any hiking. It is a little cooler at the top so bring a light jacket or sweater! Enjoy! read more

The Sandia Peak Tramway is worth checking out especially for the views. Tickets are $34 round trip (for adults), and the tram runs every 15 to 30 minutes. The ride up takes about 15 minutes and the elevation is nearly at 10,000 feet so it does get a bit cold on the mountain. You are allowed to spend as much time as you like up on the mountain. You can hike the trails, take photos, or eat/drink at their fine dining restaurant and bar called TEN 3. There is also a Sandia Tram Gift Shop on the bottom where you can pick up souvenirs, as well as a coffee shop. The Sandia Peak Tramway is a must while in Albuquerque. Reserve your tickets online before you come. We had planned to purchase them here but upon driving in they informed us that you need to buy them online either way. Entries are timed and there are a couple of lines to wait on before boarding. The tram ride is about 15 minutes long and the guide on board will give you information throughout the trip. Once at the top you can go to the restaurant or do one of the hikes. We only had about an hour to spare here because we had to catch a flight but we were still able to hike up to the old stone structure way up at the top, Kiwanis Cabin. Views on the tram and up on the mountain were gorgeous, and it's a nice way to see the city from another viewpoint while being in nature. read more

We originally came for Sandia Ski in NM but unfortunately no snow at this time of the month yet. However, we felt like we couldn't miss the longest tramway in the USA. I'm glad we got to ride! Just be careful with those who will skip the line coming back lol. The staff in each tram were very knowledgeable. We were slowed down to the highest point which was taller than Eiffel. The tram ride was smooth there are several options to choose what tickets to buy. They do give military discount! Beautiful deck on top where you can walk around. Absolutely fantastic views on the ride and from the top! The restaurant at the top is closed Tues and Wed, so either eat at the bottom or bring a snack. As of 14 May 2026, the hiking trails to the north are closed beyond the nature trail loop so the Forest Service can do forest fire remediation. The hiking trail to the south are still open though, and the views from right around the top of the tram are fantastic on their own! read more

The Sandia peak tramway takes you ~10k feet up the mountain from where you can view the Albuquerque city limits and surrounding mountain ranges. You can purchase tickets online for a two hour window to ride the tramway up. After that you can spend as much time as you like at the peak before heading back down. We bought our tickets for the 3-5 PM window which is a popular slot as many people like to watch the sunset from the top. It is a gorgeous sight to watch the sunset from the peak and even more so as the lights turn on throughout the city below. It was also very cold in December so make sure you bundle up before taking the tram. One drawback is that the tram only runs every 15 minutes and there's a huge live to go back down after the sunset. It was almost an hour's wait to take the trip back. read more

What a gem! Sandia Peak offers some of the most breathtaking views New Mexico has to offer. I visited in September, so skiing wasn't in season, but I was still able to ride the tram & it was absolutely worth it. The ride itself is high enough to take in sweeping, colorful views of the city, mountains, and sky. It's such a unique experience and really gives you a sense of how beautiful New Mexico is. During the winter, this spot turns into a ski area, but even off-season it's a must-do if you're in Albuquerque. Peaceful, scenic, and unforgettable sooo I'd recommend it to anyone visiting the area. read more

This experience wasn't everything I hoped it would be. We planned to ride the tram earlier in the week to see the sunset and city lights, but it was closed. Then we planned to drive to the summit instead, but an unseasonable snow storm made that a no-go. If you want to ride the tram and/or are planning your day around this activity, go to their website in advance to make sure the tram is running and there is availability during your planned visit. You purchase the tickets online. Note that they do close the tram if there are high winds. We ended up going on the afternoon we flew out of Albuquerque and for the cost ($76 for two adults when you include taxes and ground fees), I don't think it was worth it. The highlight was probably our drive to the tram where there were a herd of buffalo grazing. That and the vintage ski chairs at the bottom were fun to see. Fortunately, we didn't have much of a wait to board on either end and the tram operator on the way up was chatty and engaging. Not so much with the younger operator on the way down. I didn't do my research and was surprised there was no seating in the tram, so you are smushed up with other visitors for the ride. What was cool was watching a woman (older than me) ride on top of the tram. Apparently they do this three times a day to check the cables. Kudos to you! On top there was very little to do if you weren't going to the fine dining restaurant, TEN 3, or the casual Lounge at the Bar. The Gift Shop is at the bottom of the hill. So you take the 15 minute ride up to the top (10,378 feet) and walk on the red deck to look one way at the Sangre De Cristo Mountains and the other way towards the ski runs. On one side there is a crude binocular of sorts that shows you different sites, but then... I think this would be a better experience if you are a hiker, skier, or enjoying a fancy sunset dinner at TEN 3. Basically, if the tram is part of a larger activity or experience. If you are just going for the view, we had so many magnificent sights driving around the state that this didn't seem worth the effort and expense. read more

Ventured out after work to the take the tram up the mountain to enjoy the mountain vistas and have a happy hour drink at Ten 3. The ride up was spectacular! When we got to the top we walked some of the trails and saw the ski area. The lifts were scary and ancient. Can't still be in use? Doesn't matter because it's the tram that's being reviewed Ten 3 was ok. A bit overpriced for the pour but the bartender was a master and fun to watch. The ride down was even better. What a poor experience. Our tickets were for 5-8pm so we arrived at 5pm, along with pretty much everyone else in the time slot. Why is this time slot for so many people and only 2 trams? We waited in line for over 2 hours to finally get on the tram to ride in the dark to the top with nothing to see or do. A great attraction in the Albuquerque area. I learned about it through an advertisement at the airport. It was a relatively quick stop on our way back to the airport. And having a pet won't stop you as they can accommodate them (see pictures). The staff is friendly and the facilities are nice. First time. Many years ago I drove up the Sandia Crest scenic drive from the east side of the Sandia Mountains but that summit is a mile north of the peak. I bought my round trip ticket online back in August for $34.51 as a senior (62+). I selected a window to go up between 9am-11am. You can stay on top the rest of the day, last tram down is 930pm. There is a summit restaurant, Ten 3. The Tramway was built in 1965 and at the time was the longest in the world. It is now #3. You have a 4000 ft change in elevation. The tram cars run at 15mph and holds up to 40 people. Fabulous views on top. The east side of the mountain was the Sandia Peak ski area. Due to climate change there has not been snow to open the ski area the last 3 years when they used to get feet of snow. On top, I saw info about one-way tickets for $24.42 for hikers. Between towers 2 & 3, trams pass each other in the middle. At that point the on board operator said they were 1000 ft above the ground, or 7.2 seconds if you jumped. No such accidents. Maintenance staff is on towers and top of trams with substantial harnesses. I felt safe with a little vertigo. read more

Amazing views of Albuquerque and fun to see the terrain of the mountains up close. A bit harrowing if you hit unexpected heavy winds like we did, coming to a complete stop on our way up while swinging over a canyon 1000 feet below. Gulp. Even on a random Monday, we cooled our heels for a solid 40 minutes before boarding both directions. I recommend visiting on a weekday if at all possible to avoid long waits that would make this outing significantly less enjoyable. read more

I went to the tramway on a lark after work. Tickets were immediately available, and I didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes for an outbound tram. The staff was friendly and helpful, making the ride entertaining and informative, giving history and trivia tidbits on both legs of the trip. The views from the top are spectacular, with a view of more than 30,000 square miles of the high desert and panoramic scenes of both sides of the mountain. We went on a Monday at 3:00. It wasn't super crowded but the skiing wasn't open. We were lucky to be at the front of the line and able to get a window spot. The really packed people in do if you are at the back of the line you have a center spot on the tram and if short, no view. The ride takes 15 minutes and the driver commentates with some information and humor. At the top you can enjoy many different viewpoints. The restaurant TEN 3 is a bit pricy but does have great views. read more

Three of us booked for the 3 to 5 slot on a busy Saturday in October. We arrived 3:30 and boarded 5:30. Stood in line for that time without food or water, no place to seat, some shade! Live music worked hard but we did not need more noise. Fortunately, it was only about 70 degrees and the view from the top was excellent. They should give information as to how long the wait will be. Let us know whether we have time to eat, drink, or use the restroom. It should be easy to predict waiting times because a tram holds 48 people and they run four flights per hour. They should send a survey after the visit, ask people what they want, and deliver some thins that the customer needs. Bring a mask. Must be able to stand for 2 hours unless someone holds your place in line read more

Smooth process, depending on the time can be pretty busy so be prepared for some wait time but they were ready with a new group as soon as they could. Have 2 cars going and arrive every 15min. Words cannot describe this experience. On a clear beautiful day the ride on the tramway is absolutely breathtaking. I wish I had the words to express how meaningful this experience was for me. Step 1. Check in (seamless process), check out the gift shop, wait for the tram Step 2. Get on the the tram (the guide was very funny and personable) Step 3. Gasp in absolute awe and enjoy the most amazing views I have ever seen Step 4. Arrive at the top, walk around a bit (to note it can be very cold and windy - come prepared for wind and temperature changes) Step 5. Sit down at the bar and have a local beer Step 6. Get on the tram back down and have to make multiple brief stops because of the wind (yup. this happens) Tips: 1) check the weather and book the day beforehand knowing very well that weather changes and the wind is a very real up there. Be prepared for a bit of swaying. 2) if you aren't used to high altitude - do your research and drink LOTS OF WATER. Also, alcohol hits differently so pace yourself. 3) bring a sweater. Even if it's 88 degrees that day, it will be very cold at the top. 4) take it all in. It's absolutely incredible and 100% worth it - just be patient if the weather decides to have some hiccups read more

It's been several years since I last visited the tram. I forget how long it is. You don't realize how high the mountain is til your standing in the tram cart going up the wire. The whole trip up is an experience in itself. You see some beautiful scenery up there along with the full view of Albuquerque and the surrounding areas. Once you reach the top the view is just incredible. This time around there was plenty of snow all around. Had I not been on a tight deadline to get back to work in time from my lunch break I'd of stayed up there longer. In the building you enter to board down the tram they have a wall with interesting facts about the area. They also have a pristine pine cone on display. It left me like wow look at that pinecone! Lol Overall it's a great unique experience to do whether your a local or even just visiting the city. You get a spectacular view of ABQ and New Mexicos glorious landscape. read more
