Aversa's might have been my favorite part of an otherwise also wonderful trip down the shore. I was staying with a friend who has been coming to this area all her life, so Aversa's was not new to her. But as a Jersey girl who feels like the Italian bakery/delis are slowly fading away near her, this was a little heaven on Earth. (Dramatic maybe??) Anyway, we stopped in twice over the course of a weekend and both days were busy (weekends down the shore) but they move quick so it never took too long. Best things we got: -The fresh bread! Ugh I could live in those rolls. -Chicken salad. We got a large container which was about a 1.5lb and perfect for 2 lunches worth of noshing for about 4 gals. -Broccoli rabe was an impulse purchase but one I would love to get again. Had a little kick to it! -Buffalo chicken stromboli. This guy was BIG. We ended up eating it the day after we got it and after a little time heating up in the oven it was delicious. Take a number when you walk in and don't snooze off or you will miss them calling it. Bring cash for a little discount, but they do take card. Get everything. Enjoy! read more

On a recent trip to Atlantic City we ran over to Brigantine and stumbled on Adversa's Italian Bakery while touring the area. Wow! What a gem and great find! They had many great choices and a variety of baked goods in different sizes. Oh!...And, one last note....Delicious!! With so much to choose from....from the baked goods, breads, homemade pasta, take-home Italian dishes, pizza...to the eclectic menu of deli sandwiches! It was hard to choose. But, while there I spotted this Cherry turnover...pocket pie that was amazing! A buttery flaky crust of tart cherry goodness. This thing was loaded with a juicy, cherry pie filling that was oozing with cherries. While I was there, I spotted some awesome looking Strombolis that I will have to get on my next visit. In all, a unique gem. The service was great and the lady who waited on me was helpful and friendly. The selection of baked goods are outstanding and look so appealing from their glass cases. The presentation is A1. You can tell everything here is artisan baked by hand and with love. This place had a steady flow of traffic and patrons, which spoke for itself. Can't come to Brigantine without stopping at Aversa's! Service is quick & friendly. Ambiance is probably a bit overwhelming because they offer so much. We picked up a half (really it's a foot-long) turkey blt for lunch to take to the beach & it was delicious. Perfect roll! Packed to capacity with turkey. I bought a cannoli cake that was not good. The cake was extremely dry. The cannoli filling did not extend to the edges of the cake. The cake layers were not even. And the top layer looked and tasted burnt. It was beautifully decorated but very much a disappointment. read more

We came in earlier in the week to order a custom cake for our daughter's 18th birthday. We ordered it for pickup on Friday at 3:30. When we went to pickup the cake, after 20 minutes of searching, they informed us that they had the cake scheduled for Saturday, not Friday. We happened to be next door, and recognized the name of the bakery as one that seems to be pretty famous, so we popped in. Since we just ate, we weren't really hungry, but man, I wouldn't be mad if next time we were in the area if we grabbed some of the Italian specialties they had - everything from cookies and pastries to fresh lasagna and meatballs and calzone. Love this bakery in the heart of Brigantine Beach but lately have been disappointed. I came in and asked for a dozen torpedo rolls that were behind the counter and when I got home I realized they were all whole wheat. They were decent but not anything like their original. We got a bunch of donuts and pastries for my mothers birthday. They were good but not great - I actually think the chocolate icing donut was missing sugar? It was such a weird icing, not that sweet at all. $37 for a small round cake that was 80% icing! Was so surprised when we cut into it for my moms birthday. It cake part was very tiny but wow was it moist and delicious! We ended up having 3 slices each but only eating the actual cake part and threw away 90% of the icing. Staff is really friendly and they also have a booth/tent at the Brigantine farmers market on saturdays in the summer at the north school! read more

I have mixed feelings on Aversa's and I think it really comes down to what you order. We got the pizza which I didn't realized wasn't going to get heated at all and it was just kind of dry and very bread heavy. However, we also got a crumb cake and it was easily one of the best crumb cakes I've ever had. Lesson learned: go sweet and leave the savory. read more

We stumbled upon Aversa's Italian Bakery after visiting ACE Hardware across the street for some boating items during the pandemic. We realized that our stomachs were grumbling and decided to check it out. Aversa's offers a slew of on-premise baked cookies, brownies, cakes, chocolate covered pretzels, in addition to a small grocery of Italian items. Pastas (fresh and boxed) cheeses, meats, pickles, olives, and a plethora of red gravies (yes, I said "gravy"!). Fresh pizza, strombolis, and pre-cooked items such as lasagna, chicken cutlets, and cold salads are showcased for you to feast your eyes upon. They offer a sub menu (hot and cold) and you can feel free to build your own. They have several vegetarian selections as well, such as roasted vegetables, eggplant parmigiana, and pre-made pastas. Strict social distancing guidelines are in place here, so be prepared for a line. Albeit a line that moves quickly. Only 7 patrons are allowed in the store at a given time, and the customers respect that request. We stumbled upon Aversa's while browsing Yelp for ideas for food for our stay in Brigantine. The menu with the Italian style hoagies, pizza slices to go, and pictures of desserts had us certain we wanted to visit. We got the following slices: tomato with hot peppers, buffalo chicken, tomato pie, eggplant parm. I wouldn't recommend the pizzas overall, they were quite bland in my opinion, with the exception of buffalo chicken and eggplant parm were decent, the eggplant being my favorite. My husband enjoyed the plain cheesecake, and I also enjoyed my tiramisu. The blueberry tea biscuit was a bit dry, and I also found it a bit bland. I ordered the vegetarian hoagie, the regular size should be plenty for one person - I thoroughly enjoyed my hoagie with eggplant, provolone, broccoli rabe and roasted red peppers. My husband enjoyed the buffalo chicken hoagie, but said it could have used a bit more sauce. Ordering was pretty chaotic in there, as they were busy. We noticed that the cashier was both taking orders, ringing people up, and making the sandwiches that were being ordered which seemed pretty inefficient overall, especially for those that just want to grab pasta or cheese off the rack and buy it. I'd recommend they're worth a visit, but maybe stick to the hoagies and select desserts. read more

Aversa's is a standard for us. The bread is terrific. Their pastry is excellent. My favorites are spholigatela. They are really good. Their pizza is great for a snack. I hate doing this because I love Aversa's as a whole but my wife and I got terrible food poisoning from your tomato pie. We've had it at your other locations with no problem. This time around, as soon as I swallowed that first bite, I knew something was up. Tomato sauce was bitter and acidic. It tasted spoiled. It's possible there was a cross contamination issue in the bakery but I can't think of another reason to get sick off of a simple tomato pie. read more

We walked into the bakery, but weren't prepared for their diversity of products - we perused everything from fine pastery and cookies to Stromboli, pizza, pasta salad and potato salad. We got Stromboli ( which they heated up for us) and muffins and a variety of fine pastries for desert. Everything was outstanding! I went to Aversa's Bakery in Brigantine and it was a horrible experience. One guy threw half a Danish in my bag with turnovers without separating them. The Danish were stale and the apple turnover was more dough then apple. I went to their website and sent a message. When they responded asking what Bakery I went to, and what day. The Shoprite in Somers Point has better Danish and Apple turnovers for the money. Aversa's made no effort to make things right. Chester's Bakery in Somers Point is also excellent. I never received any stale pastries or pastries cut in half or torn in half. read more

Every time I am Brigantine I have to stop here for a slice of their square slice pizza. The many dessert selections always result in satisfying my sweet tooth. The cannolis are my favorite but the almond cookies are a solid second. They also have a nice deli section. read more

What a great Italian bakery in the heart of Brigantine. We came here to pick up a few desserts to have after our dinner at home, and I ended up spending three times as much as I had intended once I saw everything they had to offer. From the bakery, I bought the tiramisu, a lobster tail (sfogliatelle with cream), a zeppoli, and a Jewish apple cake. All were amazing. I would recommend each and every one. I'm looking forward to trying out all of their bakery items over time. I also bought some broccoli rabe sausages which we grilled up that night. They were frozen and appeared homemade and were also phenomenal. I can never turn down a few cherry pepper shooters when they're in front of me, so they ended up in my basket as well. I've been going to Aversa's for years. Every time we go to Brigantine I make it a point to go there - especially for the foccacia style pizza. This past weekend I stopped in on my way out of Brigantine. I had a small cooler w/ice set up so I could take a few slices home. As I waited in line I saw a worker wrap up a slice of pizza in foil and take it into the back. When it came time for me to order, I asked the woman if I could have my slices wrapped in foil, as I was putting them in a small cooler for a long drive home and a box wouldn't work. Before she could answer, another woman behind the counter said "we don't have foil." I said, "that's funny because I just saw a guy who works here wrap up a slice in foil." She said "No. We're not doing that. Its either paper or a box." Then she rolled her eyes at me and went into the back and did not come back out. I don't appreciate being lied to. I also don't appreciate being denied a pretty simple request. Its not the first time I've experiences so not-so-great service there. I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

I didn't realize they started making sandwiches until a recent visit and was intrigued enough to order their roast pork sandwich. It was still warm by the time a I walked home (a few blocks) and was pleasantly surprised that the pork was juicy and generously piled onto the roll. Also, they had raisin sticky buns which have since disappeared from ACME (a "corporate" decision I was told by a worker there), so was excited to buy them and they did not disappoint.
