We often fly Avelo and it's only good some of the times. Prices are decent but by the time you pay for seats and baggage it's no bargain. But they fly no frills, not even a bottle of water to give passengers when they're stuck on a plane for an hour after landing like our current situation. It's very hard for a flight full of people to land and have to sit on the tarmac for over an hour because they don't have enough space for us to park. Figure it out! There are animals and children aboard going crazy. People are in tears and it's a very stressful, unhappy situation and I won't be returning to Avelo any time soon. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before booking a flight with Avelo Airlines. I had to cancel my flight less than 12 hours after booking, and based on my past experiences with other airlines, I expected to receive a full credit since it was within 24 hours. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Avelo refunded only 75% of the fare, and the credit was issued as Avelo travel funds rather than returned to my original form of payment. I was told that in order to receive a full refund, I would have needed to purchase their "Avelo Flex" option at the time of booking. This policy was disappointing and not what I've experienced with other airlines. Be sure to read the fine print carefully before booking with Avelo. read more

They delayed our flight 7 hours, making it a 2:15 am flight. This caused us to spend $1000 more in canceling the flight, changing airports to catch an on time flight, to a different airport from our return flight. We also couldn't return our rental to a different location, so we were forced to drive an hour past the new airport of our new flight, drop off the car, pay an expensive cab ride an hour back to the new airport, to get on a flight that brings us 2 hours from our original return airport where our owned car is. We had to pay yet another expensive cab ride to get to our car. Save the frustration and pay more for a regular airline, not this ghetto atrocity that has become the new spirit airline. read more

Budget airline. Decided to try it out flying out of Wilmington DE to Florida. Flight got cancelled 2 weeks before the flight date. Emails redirected me to options for getting refunds for my flight, but when the links loaded there were no options and my flight status did not mention cancellation. Worst service! My son got ticket at the ticket counter .. He miss the flight think what the time was not know it was military time which he couldn't read. Call costumer service and waited 30 min but when they pick up then they hang up on you and waited again as before. Also TSA awful, they won't let you walk your kid to the gate. And they rip you off to pay for membership that if you have credit due to canceling you can not share with your family members. This airline sucks. Do not use, especially in Atlanta. They are now sharing an area with some new airline and are not checking their customer's bags in until right before their flight. This is very inconsiderate as you never know how long the TSA process will be in Atlanta but avelo is essentially setting you up to miss your flights. I don't like that and I don't like that they are not even checking in 3hrs prior to a flight. This is ridiculous and not sure why they can't have staff available for the check in process. Cheap flight for cheap and bare minimum service. Pay for what you want, so if you're okay with horrible service, flight times, and horrible check in service, this is the place to spend your money. On January 1, 2026, I booked Flight 388 to Key West, Florida, with a return on Flight 389 for an April 4-8 to visit our son who is a couple of hours away. The original departure time was 1:30 PM, and the return flight was at 6:39 PM--perfect for our plans. We booked our hotel and rental car, and everything seemed fine. Six days later, we received an email stating that our departure time had been changed to 7:00 AM, which significantly disrupted our plans. Shortly after, another email arrived apologizing for the inconvenience and offering us $50 each in Avelo Cash. We weren't happy, but we figured, "What can you do?" and rearranged our hotel stay to accommodate Avelo's change. Three days later, my wife received an alert from her credit card company notifying her that the $558 we had paid for the two tickets had been credited back. That seemed strange, so we called Avelo to find out what happened. After hours of waiting, we were told that our flight had been "canceled" and that if we wanted to fly, we would need to rebook it ourselves on their website. It's a good thing my wife received that credit card alert--otherwise, we would have assumed everything was still set. We went back to Avelo's website and rebooked the exact same flight on the exact same days, with the exact same flight times, and even selected the same seats. This time, however, the total cost was over $750, and the $100 in Avelo Cash was not available in our account. I called Avelo again and eventually spoke with a customer service representative. When I asked about the price difference, I was told that they do not control pricing, so there was nothing they could do. She speculated that a promotion may have been running when we first booked, saving us $30 per ticket, and that the promotion had ended by the time we were forced to rebook. She would not reapply the promotion, even though we originally bought the tickets under the promotion and we did not cancel, they did. When I pointed out how convenient that was for the airline, she agreed but said there was nothing she could do. As for the Avelo Cash, I was told it could take several weeks to appear in our account, so we couldn't apply it to the rebooked flight. In summary, we booked a flight, Avelo changed the flight time, then canceled the flight without clearly notifying us, forcing us to rebook. When we rebooked the exact same flight, we were charged over $200 more, and we still haven't received the $100 credit. In effect, Avelo's mistake cost us $300. We are extremely disappointed and feel like we were played. At this point, our only option is to share our experience with anyone who will listen. I will be submitting complaints to Avelo, posting this review wherever possible, and telling others about what happened. We hope Avelo treats customers better in the future, but unfortunately, we will not be flying with them again. I posted this complaint on their website and received an auto-reply saying someone will contact me. If they ever resolve this to our satisfaction, I will come back and update this review. read more

I also asked repeatedly to speak to a supervisor and she told me that there's no supervisor available on phone calls just which phone call. I caught her in this lie because then she said that true emergencies, there are supervisors that you can speak with on the phone after challenging why she told me that no supervisors available on the phone she told me that supervisors aren't gonna talk to me just cause I want a cheaper flight. I flew with Avelo many times and I thought that the service was decent, but I never had to deal with the customer service regarding changing a flight. I had a flight attendant (Judith "Judy")insist my bag was too large for overhead while leaving West Palm Beach, Fl to fly to home to New Haven, Ct on 3/3/26, she then took my bag from me on the plane, and said it was going to be checked, the bag was then taken off the plane and never put back on the plane. When i confronted Judith about the situation her answer was "Thats not my problem, there is nothing I can do" i the asked if she can simply make a phone call to her management, or West Palm Avelo which she then told me "no" she couldnt do anything. I had occasion to book a round trip flight on Avelo Airlines leaving Tweed New Haven Airport to Baltimore Washington International Airport over Thanksgiving weekend. I received two emails from Avelo on Saturday morning informing me that my return flight would be delayed by around twelve hours, leaving BWI at around 11:30 p.m. rather than at 11:30 a.m. I have never experienced a delay of this length in over 50 years! I did get some good assistance from shuttle drivers in New Haven and the flight attendants were good and the plane was clean but I am not sure I would consider flying Avelo again. read more

Avelo airlines is inconsistent with its baggage fees. They state they allow a free personal item brought on board, I.e. a backpack that fit under the seat. My outbound flight from New Haven to Ft Lauderdale I had no problem. On the return flight the gate agent said the back pack was too big and charged 65.00. The backpack was not too big and was packed exactly how it was on the outbound flight. The gate agent was rude and insisted I will be charged. I contacted Avelo customer service 4 times and requested a refund for an inappropriate charge. I included pictures how the backpack fit under the seat. After 4 attempts they finally responded and said they will not refund the 65.00 and their decision was final. Even if I escalate this that won't make any difference. I believe Avelo is randomly charging passengers unnecessary fees. I have heard about this from friends that have used this airline. Also, they are very unorganized. For example I paid 60.00 to place a bag in the overhead bin which is totally wrong in my opinion !!! I paid on their app 2 days before my flight and when I got to the airport at the check-in counter they asked if the bag was paid for.It didn't reflect in their system. I needed to search for an email to prove I paid for it. Luckily I found the email and they cleared it, or I would have had to pay again. When I got to the gate the agent questioned it again. Why isn't their system reflecting payments that were made on the Avelo app? It is so wrong for an airline that is making billions in profit to be nickel and diming passengers. Well I was there another flight got delayed for the next day and somebody else missed their flight banging on the doors and ran outside when they shouldn't have been able to do so. My flight was great, it was easy inconvenient booking it. The airport in New Haven was very tiny which made it less confusing. They gave water bottles on the plane and came around to collect garbage at the end. read more

Okay. I finally gave in and decided to give Avelo a try. Boy was I ever sorry I did. I booked two round trip flights to West Palm Beach in the Fall of 2023. On the first round trip the flight down was delayed by over three hours. There were zero weather issues that day. On the second round trip the return flight back to New Haven was also delayed but over an hour. Again- no weather issues. That's a 50% on-time rate. Add to that the fact that their so-called low rates are deceptive as they charge additional fees for everything- carry on bags and even your seat! Never again. They are deceptive in their advertising. They advertise $49 flights to Jacksonville FL. It's not however. All you get is the reservation, then you have to pay for your seat, then you have to pay for either carry-on or Checked baggage. No inflight entertainment, no refreshments and no power outlets. To top it all off, that's for one way, you want to return home? Then you have to double the costs. I've flown with Avelo before and never expected the disaster I dealt with at HVN airport. The night before my flight, I checked in on the Avelo app and got the "Web check-in is completed! Retrieve your boarding pass(es)" screen. I trusted it. The next morning at the airport, I go to the app to retrieve the boarding passes and come to find out that the app showed no record of my check-in, and I couldn't access my boarding passes. At the customer service desk, I was told their system showed I never checked in. This turned into an unbelievable mess. Because of Avelo's own app glitch, I was forced into paying $255.13 for a "rebooking" that I never agreed to. What made it worse was that the agents conveniently didn't tell me about the $50 phone booking fee, nor that I would not be able to take advantage of my Avelo Plus member pricing since the booking was being done through the call agent. When I told them I'd rather book it myself (since it was literally cheaper), they told me it was "too late" because they had already processed it. Then comes the payment fiasco. The payment link the phone representative sent didn't even work, but my credit card was still charged. The agents physically saw the charge and the email confirmation on my phone, yet said "the system didn't register it." I had to pay the same amount twice before it finally went through, and only then did the system auto-refund the first payment. If that doesn't show their system is broken, I don't know what does. To top it off, the customer service agents refused to provide badge numbers and one wouldn't even give me a last name, stating that she was "not authorized" to provide me with her last name. The whole experience felt hidden, disorganized, and honestly predatory. I left feeling overcharged, unheard, and completely frustrated. But wait there's more...when coming back to HVN (from Daytona Beach), our 7:42pm Avelo flight (XP 386) was delayed three hours to 10:41pm due to the incoming flight arriving late. So as any normal person would do in a situation where their flight is delayed three hours, my wife and I decided to kill the time and check out some additional locale in the area. We arrived at the DAB airport at 9pm and come to find out that TSA closed up shop for the night and we can't get to our gate. Apparently, TSA closes up at 9PM sharp at this airport and according to the Avelo check-in agent at the front desk, we were supposed to receive notifications from Avelo about the TSA situation and to arrive well before 9pm...we never received any notification. There were about 10-15 other passengers in the same boat as us, no alerts on TSA closing and no compensation or accommodation from Avelo. My wife and I were stuck in the airport lobby the entire night and offered no hotel accommodation nor any compensation to get rebooked with another airline. We later received a refund for one-way flight after calling customer service but this still does not come close to the amount my wife and I had to pay to rebook with another airline and uber to the JAX airport since no Avelo flights were headed to HVN out of daytona beach until Monday evening. I've flown dozens of airlines -- big and small -- and I've never experienced anything as backwards as this. Avelo needs to fix their app, fix their booking system, train their agents better, and stop nickel-and-diming customers for problems caused by their own glitches. Absolutely unacceptable. If we could give them zero stars we would. 1) At Christmas we had to abandon our checked bag with all our belongings for two adults and a toddler to make our flight because they had not properly prepared for the volume for the holiday rush. We stood outside in freezing cold for over an hour. It was mayhem and we were only able to make the flight because we had family who could collect our bag. Others weren't so lucky and missed the flight altogether. 2) my mom just came into town to meet our newborn son. Her flight out was delayed from 7am then to 10:30am ... then 7pm the next evening! What happened??? I have flown with Avelo for @4-5 years and had good experiences until Monday, December 15th. What a nightmare! Our flight was booked for takeoff to FL for 7:30 AM. We were in line to check our bags from 5:30 AM until 7 AM. We had to stand outside for an hour because the line was so long, and it was 15 degrees outside. There was only one employee checking people in until @6:30, when someone else joined her. The woman checking people in started yelling at all of us in line (basically 4 flights of people) to have our IDs and boarding passes out or we'd miss our flight! Like it was our fault the line was so slow! No apologies for the delay, no explanation, nothing to de escalate the disgruntled customers. Because it took so long to get through that process, there was no time to get coffee or a snack before boarding. We then had to sit on the plane for over an hour while the plane was de-iced. When we finally got up in the air, nothing was offered to the passengers. No coffee/tea/water. No snacks. Two of the flight attendants literally looked like they just rolled out of bed. Flew a DIRECT 2 hour flight from Nashville to New Haven and upon receiving my luggage at the terminal, my bag was badly torn and punctured in the upper right corner. When I submitted a claim, the response I received was impersonal, and told me that because I didn't submit a claims within 4 HOURS, it was invalid. If this was a flight that contained layovers and multiple baggage movement, I would maybe understand a little bit. Like I addressed before, this was a direct flight with my suitcase being put on the plane, and taken off the plane. There was no need for excessive force for my luggage to be destroyed as much as it was. I wasn't even home in a 4 hour span, and submitting a photo for review was difficult because they wouldn't accept a standard photo size of 1.6MB. By the time I was actually able to, the response and lack of responsibility for my damage was completely brushed aside. Not to mention, on our flight down to Nashville was delayed 8 HOURS, causing us to miss a whole day. The lack of communication, empathy, and professionalism from this airline was beyond belief. read more
